    I cannot express how pleased I am to find a documentary series that is thorough, well-written, and tastefully narrated--sans fluff and bluster! It's like having a refresher course in history. My only suggestion for improvement is to include more maps.

    Always find it funny how the English champion Richard as a English icon when he couldn’t stand England and once said if he could find a good price for London he’d sell it,spoke French seen himself as the Duke of Normandy,but yet he’s a English super hero 😂

      Technically, there was two language spoken in medieval france.
      The language of oc spoken in the southern half like the aquitaine and the language of oil spoken in Anjou, Maine or Normandy so Richard was bilingual but neither of them was middle english.

      @@ski8615 It's hard to say because i don't think Richard will like a sport with all the players always falling to the ground anytime someone barely touch them.
      I think he will be a huge fan of rugby instead and in that case, will rather support France because most of the players and club came from southwest france where Richard was a duke while he will feel no real bonds with english players.

    An excellent start - could you please always add the populations of each country at the time you narrate their history as well as towns if possible? This is a huge influence upon how history plays out! With Capital cities having only about 50,000 citizens in the 1300's it seems extraordinary how such huge armies were created - armed ,fed and paid etc.!

  • @ColorsFlight

    I think it's weird that Germans were called Emperor of the Romans. I sorta understand the history but I still don't get that part.

    • @jackperales1076
      @jackperales1076 4 місяці тому +1

      It’s because a Frank (German) dude conquered a lot of territory previously held by Rome. The Pope wanted to be under his protection, so he named him emperor of the Romans as the spiritual successor to the Roman Empire. From that point forward Germanic kings would hold the position and be elected into it since the western section became France.

    • @ColorsFlight

      @@jackperales1076 thank you for that clarification I kinda understand it in my mind but it was like I still couldn't grasp it. That makes it easier. It's still weird to think. Like it just sounds weird I guess. That part of history I am still needing to learn more about.

      @@ColorsFlight The eastern Roman Empire (which was still kicking) had given some authority to Odoacer (another Germanic dude) to rule over Italy when the western empire fell to pieces. For a long time Rome was more a centralizing political force than a homogenous thing, and so from their PoV it made sense to call back to it as a form of getting legitimacy.

While, it seems like he had some mental health concerns, and perhaps a learning disorder and/or an anxious personality, he was ineffective and couldn't make the hard decisions. I have a very negative attitude about Becket. I do not believe he was even close to being any kind of saint. In truth I suspect he spent some time in purgatory. I would even go so far as to believe that Becket's soul will end up with Satan rather than with Jesus.

  • @jasonlemere1683

    Yes. I think Matilda would have made aa good queen and ruler. The Patriarchal ideals of male rulers only was proven flawed later in history starting with Queen Elizabeth 1, who was one of Englands most noted rulers, going to modern day. Many strong women just in England proved themselves behind the scenes before this era and onward to the Elizabethan age. Queen Mary Tudor might have done better if she did not have a well understood agenda for her rule.
