Hey friend. That's such a great movie. I just watched it again not that long ago. It's one that is crushing at the end for sure. Great movie and great soundtrack, too. Hope all is well with you and Kelly. Thanks so much for watching. 👋👋
Nice! It's such a task to pick just 25 movies and then to rank them. 😳😳😳 I can't tell you how many times I moved things around and changed what made the list. I'm sure if I made it tomorrow, it would change again. 😂😂😂 Thanks so much for watching.
Thank you so much for your kind words. You have no idea how much it means to me that you're enjoying the content. Totally agree that there is so much nostalgia from the 80's. Thanks for watching and enjoy the day. 😀👋👋
The Color Purple is one that I still have yet to check out. Yaaasss Stand By Me 😍. I seriously thought it would've been on everyone's list. Excellent picks!
Thanks, friend. I think you'll really enjoy The Color Purple. I'm so bummed that they're doing a remake, it's a classic so just leave it alone. 😫😫😫 Appreciate you checking out the video and hope all is well with you. 👋👋
Very nice list. I know is very difficult to compress the decade in a list of 25 movies, but I was still a llittle surprised by some omitions that I think helped to define the 80s. Such as: E.T. (1982), When Harry Met Sally (1989), Blade Runner (1982), Amadeus (1984), or Do The Right Thing (1989). But is just a respectful comment. As you say there are tons of great 80s movies. These are a few that I really love: Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988), The Killing Fields (1984), Glory (1989), Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986), Mississippi Burning (1988), The Right Stuff (1983), among others.
Totally understand and appreciate your comment, friend. Honestly, it was an absolutely daunting task so I did the best I could. There are so many fantastic movies that are the 80s. My list could have been over 100 and I would have still had more to add. 😂😂😂 Love the ones you added and agree that they're fantastic. My lists that I generate for myself tend to be much more limited in scope (Ex Favorite Films From 1978) Still a fun exercise to do. Thank you for watching the video and sharing your picks. I honestly do appreciate it. 😀👋👋
All of those are stellar choices Stephanie, I would really struggle to pick 25 from this decade but I think we were really spoilt during the 80s. Nicely presented as always 🙂🤚
Hi Ben and thanks so much for the kind words and for watching. I really do love the 80's and 90's for film. There's so much nostalgia and so many to choose from. Hope all is well with you, my friend. 💞
LOVE these choices, Steph! ❤ Great to see some Cinema Paradiso love. I still need to watch my 4K edition 😅 Looking forward to the whole community list 🤘
Thanks my dear, Nathan. You're going to love the 4K, it's gorgeous. I'm excited about seeing the final list as well. Thanks for the nudge to get this done. You're the best. ❤️❤️
Great choices! Brings back a lot of nostalgia. Cinema Paradiso is one of my all time favorites, especially love the score. My all time favorite of the eighties is Amadeus.
See... I totally forgot Amadeus. Ugh. These are so hard to do because there are so many great films in the decade. I didn't even get to the foreign language ones. 😳😳😳 I love Cinema Paradiso and I hope some folks who haven't seen it will check it out. Thanks so much for watching. 👋👋
The top two are tied: 1. Innerspace 2. Purple Rose of Cairo 3. Back to the Future 4. E.T. 5. Radio Days 6. Raiders of the Lost Ark 7. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom 8. Empire Strikes Back 9. Once Upon a Time in America 10. Glory 11. Rain Man 12. Driving Miss Daisy 13. Airplane! 14. All of Me 15. Color Purple 16. Planes, Trains and Automobiles 17. Fox and the Hound 18. Parenthood 19. Field of Dreams 20. Ran 21. Koyaanisqatsi 22. Cinema Paradiso 23. UHF 24. Coming to America 25. Hannah and Her Sisters
Wargames is another great one. It either just got or is about to get a new 4K release. Thanks so much for checking out the video. I really do appreciate it. 😀👋👋
I totally agree with your picks and I too can't make a best of list, let alone in order. A few other 80's films that rank really high for me are Time Bandits, The Abyss, Used Cars, Starman, Ghostbusters, and yes Caddyshack.
I feel your pain, friend. I'm so bad at the broad scope lists and ranking.... Ugh. I'm the worst. It's so hard. 😂😂😂 It was fun though and I love that it brings the movie community together. Great picks on your list also. Thanks so much for watching and sharing. I truly appreciate it. 😀👋👋
I did one of these lists and it took forever! First I got it down to 50 and then it took even longer to choose my top 25 from that. I had to leave too many films I had an strong emotional attachment to off the top 25. It was kind of painful. The 80's had so many incredible movies. Your list is great. Many of the movies you mention were on mine as well and probably all of them in my original list of 50. My high school years were in the 80s, as well, so as you said, I could have made a list comprised of nothing but teen comedies. Great soundtracks to so many of those films, too. What a decade! Thanks for sharing your list, it made for a great video. Now, about 80 for Brady...
Hi Steve and thanks for the very kind words. Ugh, it was an almost impossible task but I did have fun with it. There's so much nostalgia tied up in the 80's so it was very difficult to leave anything off the list. I'm currently editing the chat with my Mom. It's taking a long time because I didn't realize she sat back in her chair so she was too far from the mic. I've split the audio from the video and I'm going frame by frame and fixing the audio. 😫😫😫😫 It's a 30 minute video so it's a slow edit but I hope it will be worth it in the end. Thanks so much for watching. You're awesome. 💞
Ach ranking is subjective anyway :) thank you for this - I had forgotten about so many of these films 😊 edit: oh wow - in all these years I had never realised how little you saw of M Keaton in Beetleguise!!
Hi friend. Totally agree with the ugh of ranking. It's so not one of my strengths. I'm happy to hear you found a few forgotten gems to revisit. Crazy about the lack of screen time for Michael Keaton. I've always found that astounding. Thanks so much for watching. 😀👋👋
Great great list!! I own them all and they’re all so special. Many of them are also connected to some of my favorite memories. Hope all is well with you! Cheers. Do another 25!! Lol
Hey friend. So nice to see you here. The 80's were such a fun time and now full of nostalgia. I could have done a list of at least 100. I'll definitely be doing more lists/recommendations but I think I'm going to genre jump. And I can't wait for October so I can really get into the horror titles. Thanks so much for watching and hope all is well with you, too. 💞
I am of the opinion that the 80’s were the best decade for movies because that’s when media was taking off. Movies I would have added are big, the goonies, and coming to America.
Thanks for sharing some that would be on your list. The 80's and 90's were weird for me with movies. I kept seeing the same things over and over because of cable TV and whatever friends picked. It wasn't until late into college that I branched out to classics and world cinema. So the films on this list, I think, are the ones that bring me back to the nostalgia of that time in my life. But yes, definitely a really fun time for movies. Thanks so much for watching. 😀👋👋
Thanks so much and thank you especially for sharing some of your picks. Great choices! Thanks for checking out the video. I really do appreciate it. 😀👋👋
Well, I've just discovered your channel. My list would be very different, but what the heck! It's your list! , and you're a great host. I really enjoyed the video and the style and dynamics you imprinted. Keep up your fantastic work. 👏
Hi and welcome, so happy you've found the channel. I rarely do lists that are all common/mainstream titles but since it's as community challenge, I tried to go with the flow of what others seem to be doing. I'm happy you enjoyed the style of the video. I'd love to hear some of your picks for the category. I always enjoy hearing what everyone in the comments enjoys. Thanks so much for watching and your very kind words. 😀
great list Steph,hard to argue/debate on that list.I have a few that resonate with me…The Heavenly Kid,-Victory,-Karate Kid,-Wizards,-Fire’N’Ice,-The Beast Master,-Conan the Barbarian….
Thanks so much for sharing some of your favorites. I know I missed so many great movies but my goodness was this a tough video to make. You shared some great picks so thanks for that and for watching. I really do appreciate it. 😀👋👋
Great list and ranking! Love most of these movies. I love the 80s, one of my favourite decades for film and music. I was born in the late 80s so remember basically nothingl yet i still feel so connected to it and it gives me a huge nostalgic vibe.. It must have been a great time to be a kid/teen!! Here's my top 15 (though i've cheated a bit as i just can't choose!) Aliens Planes Trains And Automobiles Willow The Little Mermaid Back To The Future 1 & 2 The Color Purple Indiana Jones (all three) Steel Magnolias A Nightmare On Elm Street Poltergeist The Snowman The Empire Strikes Back/Return of the Jedi The Land Before Time On Golden Pond National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
Hi friend and thank you so much for taking the time to watch the video and to share your own list of favorites. It was definitely a fun time to be a teenager. I remember staying home, glued to the TV the day MTV went live. Everyone was obsessed and those are the pop culture memories I have. 😀 It's definitely tough to just pick 25 but it was fun to do and a great way to bring the movie community together. Thanks for being here, I truly appreciate it. 👋👋
Definitely no complaints with your #1, a beautiful movie. And classic choices for your list. I just watched someone else also include Dirty Dancing, one I must confess I still haven’t watched the whole way through.
I'm with you and love Cinema Paradiso. I'm hoping anyone who hasn't seen it will check it out. I think Dirty Dancing is another that kind of plays to a more female demographic but again, it was my high school years so it holds a ton of nostalgia. Thanks so much for watching. I really do appreciate it. 👋👋😀
Thanks, friend. I kind of figured because the 80s are packed with nostalgia that Cinema Paradiso might be a wild card but I just love it so much. Thanks for watching and looking forward to chatting soon. 👋👋
I love Batman 1989. How is the 4K transfer for that film? I need to pick up Planes, Trains, & Automobiles. Gremlins is the best! That is such a funny story about you watching Raiders of the Lost Ark and ignoring the party. I would totally do that. Ha ha! Awesome list Stephanie!
Batman 1989 is so much fun for me. I think it looks fine but not sure it's the best 4K out there. You know me, I'm not that technical. 🤣🤣🤣 Oh yeah, me at a party with a movie on?? You know was watching the movie. These days I'd be looking to see if there was a little dog to make friends with. 😂😂 Thanks so much for watching, my friend.
Nice. It was a tough one for sure. So many great movies came from the 80's. I know I missed so many great ones. Thanks so much for watching. I really do appreciate it. 😀👋👋
Great choices! This was soooo hard and heartbreaking... I really struggled to widdle this down to 10 and if it was a different day it could be totally different. I grew up in the 80s, so this was my decade. Not a real ranking, but close to how I feel about them. 10 to 1: Pee Wee’s Big Adventure Planes, Trains & Automobiles Raising Arizona The Terminator When Harry Met Sally A Fish Called Wanda Star Wars: Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back First Blood The Road Warrior Raiders of the Lost Ark Honorables: Toxic Avenger, Spinal Tap, Field of Dreams, Aliens, Friday the 13th... Ferris? Breakfast Club? The Untouchables? P.S. I love Cinema Paradiso and have it on the DVD, but just couldn't put it up against any of these. You should do it by year... that would be easier... or maybe even genre!
Definitely easier to do them by year or even category. But since I didn't generate the challenge, I really had too work hard with this one. You're so right that it's heartbreaking to leave things on the side when you know they should make the list. We all do our best though and it's totally for fun. 😀 Thanks so much for sharing your picks and for taking the time to watch the video. I really do appreciate it and you have some great titles on here. 😀👋👋
Yes!! The drive in refreshments. I got them right on Amazon. They have the individual ones and they have tin signs with the retro snacks as well. Just look up movie room decor drive-in refreshments sign. A bunch of them come up. 😀👋👋
Great list. i have couple that might surprise people. Maybe even you too. Haha Platoon Hamburger hill The keep The beast(Afghan war) Life force Re-animator Uncle Buck 16 Candles Poltergeist Ghost story Taps Invaders from Mars Strange invaders Mischief Just a lot of great movies. Mischief might be my favorite. Between the fantastic 50s soundtrack and Charming story.
Not entirely sure on the order and/or selection. I'm sure there's more that I can't remember. But number one is number one and all in the top 10 are ones I revisit the most. 25. Iron Eagle 24. Clash Of The Titans 23. Who Framed Roger Rabbit 22. Children Of The Corn 21. Highlander 20. Die Hard 19. Maximum Overdrive 18. Stand By Me 17. Poltergeist 16. Beetlejuice 15. Silver Bullet 14. Red Dawn 13. Gremlins 12. Crossroads 11. NOES 2: Freddy's Revenge 10. Blue Thunder 09. Eddie And The Cruisers 08. Airplane 07. American Werewolf In London 06. Manhunter 05. War Games 04. Rocky III 03. Christine 02. Trick Or Treat 01. Back To The Future
Nice! Love your list here. There's so many great films from the decade and it's tough to leave some out. I really appreciate you taking the time to check our the video and for sharing your list. I enjoyed reading it. 😀👋👋
Great Pciks Stephanie as a Person who loves 80s Movies I Like Back To the Future 1985 and Back to the Future Part II 1989 and The Great Mouse Detective 1986 Ferris Buller s Day Off 1986 My Neighbor Totoro 1988 Kiki Delivery Service 1989 and Indiana Jones Trilogy 1981-1989 and The Little Mermaid 1989 are My Favorite 1980s Movies In My Heart

Hi and happy you found the channel. All great picks on your list. This was a tough one with so many great movies coming out during the 1980's. Thanks for watching and sharing some of your favorites. 😀🍿
Steph, I bet you've got more "honourable mentions" than I've had hot dinners, and I'm sure one that would be on this list, purely for all its creative originality, would be Jon Demme's "Something Wild"!
You're right. I could have gone on and on and on. 🤣🤣🤣 These decade lists are so hard because there's just so much ground to cover. I'll definitely be doing more lists that I generate myself so be on the lookout. This got my mind working so I'm excited to do other things. Something Wild is a great pick!! Thanks so much for watching and hope all is well. 😀👋👋
MY ULTIMATE 1980's MOVIE LIST 1) The Princess Bride 2) Big 3) A Christmas Story 4) The Shining 5) Ordinary People 6) Dirty Dancing 7) When Harry Met Sally 8) Planes, Trains, & Automobiles 9) The Thing 10) The NeverEnding Story 11) The Extra Terrestrial (E.T.) 12) Stand By Me 13) The Little Mermaid 14) The Empire Strikes Back 15) Fright Night 16) Full Metal Jacket 17) Nightmare On Elm Street 18) The Return Of The Jedi 19) Rain Man 20) Raiders Of The Lost Ark 21) The Elephant Man 22) Say Anything... 23) Dragonslayer 24) Platoon 25) Weird Science
Absolutely. I kind of went with the flow of the community because at the end, they're adding everything up to see where movies land. Pretty much everyone went with the classics but I watch a ton of foreign language films. I'll be doing lists for those in the near future. Thanks for watching. 😀👋👋
Ugh with the remakes. 😫😫😫 I love The Color Purple and so many others that have had remakes. I don't understand why they keep doing that because they're really never an improvement on the original. Thanks so much for watching the video. 😀👋👋
You had me at STEEL & lost me at MAGNOLIAS. Just kidding… you know my humor is weird. But I’m a caveman but I love ❤️ STEEL MAGNOLIAS they are going to beat me around the camp fire 🔥 or as we normal cavemen call it DINNER 🍽️. Great list I hope to put mine out after the STEELBOOK competition.
Not to be creepy… but a ghost 👻 appears in your video. Look during your CHATTER of DEAD POETS SOCIETY and a ghost appears to float by from your left to right but watching from right to left. Before I forget list your countdown as a pinned comment for TIM because you forgot your countdown numbers on your edited upload.
I am a total horror gal and hate 95% of romantic "girly" movies. Dramas especially. But I adore Dirty Dancing. Actually, I love most 80's dance movies for some reason. Flashdance, Footloose, Breakin"....love them. I'm with you on Nightmare on Elm Street. It's my favorite horror franchise of all time. I think the first 4 movies are awesome. Even the lesser ones are fun. We need that cool boxset from Scream Factory or Arrow. I have heard the new head of Warner is pretty awful and is just being incredibly difficult with rights and so it's not likely we will see a boxset anytime soon. If we do, it will be a sad crappy cash grab from Warner which is too bad. Back to the Future is also one of my favorites. In my top 10 movies of all time for sure. My top 6 (I would really need to narrow it down to do top 10 or 20) 80's movies would probably be Nightmare on Elm Street 1 and 4, The Blob, Dolls, Heathers, and Back to the Future
Same here on so many of the issues you've pointed out here. And same, I absolutely love Dirty Dancing but it's so outside my wheelhouse. I think the tone of the movie and the fact that it's such a time piece just gets me. As far as Nightmare, ugh. I've heard through the grapevine that it's still considered an "active franchise" which is why they haven't released the rights to anyone like Scream Factory to do a proper set. Although I find it so odd because I've heard nothing about any plans for any new movies, but who knows. We definitely deserve better than the junk Blu-ray set they released and the franchise definitely deserves better. Thanks so much for watching and sharing your thoughts. I really do appreciate it. 🎃🎃
No Eddie Murphy? At least one of his like 48hrs, Beverly Hills, Trading Places, Coming to America should be on every 80s list. Again at least one of the classic action movies of either Lethal Weapon or Die Hard.
This was an absolute nightmare of a list to make. There's no way to get everything on it because it's just impossible. First problem is trying to remember all the films from the 80's and it just goes downhill from there. I don't think I'd attempt another challenge that was a full decade again. Way too wide in scope. 😵💫😵💫😵💫🥵🥵
Great picks. My number one 80's movie would be: the Last American Virgin. To this day, the ending gets me chocked up...Mike
Hey friend. That's such a great movie. I just watched it again not that long ago. It's one that is crushing at the end for sure. Great movie and great soundtrack, too.
Hope all is well with you and Kelly. Thanks so much for watching. 👋👋
Excellent list Steph! The Thing is no.3 in my all time favourite movie list and Empire Strikes Back is no.5. The Lost Boys is no.9 in the list 🎞️📽️👍
Nice! It's such a task to pick just 25 movies and then to rank them. 😳😳😳 I can't tell you how many times I moved things around and changed what made the list. I'm sure if I made it tomorrow, it would change again. 😂😂😂

Love your reviews so much. I’m a child of the 80’s as well and it brought back a lot of good memories. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much for your kind words. You have no idea how much it means to me that you're enjoying the content.
Totally agree that there is so much nostalgia from the 80's. Thanks for watching and enjoy the day. 😀👋👋
So happy to see The Thing & Aliens in your top 10. 😁
Thanks! I'm definitely a horror gal so they had to be in there.
Thanks so much for watching. 😀👋👋

Great list, and a few tips on movies to watch. Thank you. 👍🏻 Missed one of my top favourites, Wargames from 1983. 😉🇸🇪
Wargames is another great one. It either just got or is about to get a new 4K release.

Hi friend and thank you so much for taking the time to watch the video and to share your own list of favorites.
It was definitely a fun time to be a teenager. I remember staying home, glued to the TV the day MTV went live. Everyone was obsessed and those are the pop culture memories I have. 😀
It's definitely tough to just pick 25 but it was fun to do and a great way to bring the movie community together. Thanks for being here, I truly appreciate it. 👋👋
@@MovieChatter01 what a really great response. This is one big reason you've become one of my favourite people in the movie UA-cam community!
@@leighs966 you're very kind. Thank you
Definitely no complaints with your #1, a beautiful movie.
Great pick for number 1! I totally forgot about Cinema Paradise.
Oh yeah, me at a party with a movie on?? You know was watching the movie. These days I'd be looking to see if there was a little dog to make friends with. 😂😂
Thanks so much for watching, my friend.
Tuning In
Thank you, friend. Lots of common titles on this one but hope you enjoyed it anyway.
Thanks so much for watching. 👋👋😀
A lot of those would have made my list too.
Nice. It was a tough one for sure. So many great movies came from the 80's. I know I missed so many great ones.
Thanks so much for watching. I really do appreciate it. 😀👋👋
One of my favorite 80s movies is hiding out
Great choices!
This was soooo hard and heartbreaking... I really struggled to widdle this down to 10 and if it was a different day it could be totally different. I grew up in the 80s, so this was my decade. Not a real ranking, but close to how I feel about them. 10 to 1:
Pee Wee’s Big Adventure
Planes, Trains & Automobiles
Raising Arizona
The Terminator
When Harry Met Sally
A Fish Called Wanda
Star Wars: Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
First Blood
The Road Warrior
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Honorables: Toxic Avenger, Spinal Tap, Field of Dreams, Aliens, Friday the 13th...
Thanks so much for sharing your picks and for taking the time to watch the video. I really do appreciate it and you have some great titles on here. 😀👋👋
Hey Steph where did you get those little guy on your wall popcorn, guy, soda guy, hot dog reminds me of the drive in when we were kids
Yes!! The drive in refreshments. I got them right on Amazon. They have the individual ones and they have tin signs with the retro snacks as well. Just look up movie room decor drive-in refreshments sign. A bunch of them come up. 😀👋👋

Thanks for watching and sharing some of your favorites. 😀🍿
@@MovieChatter01 so hard to pick good 80s movies chicken mc nugget dipped in barbecue sauce durant would say great channel
The black barrel container next to ghost face. Is that a return of the living dead barrel ?
I wish it was but no, it's actually a Blu-ray set of the Breaking Bad series. I love the show. 😀
Christmas vacation is the best
Love it!! I'm really hoping European Vacation gets the 4K upgrade. So much fun
Thanks for watching. 😀👋👋
Steph, I bet you've got more "honourable mentions" than I've had hot dinners, and I'm sure one that would be on this list, purely for all its creative originality, would be Jon Demme's "Something Wild"!
You're right. I could have gone on and on and on. 🤣🤣🤣
These decade lists are so hard because there's just so much ground to cover. I'll definitely be doing more lists that I generate myself so be on the lookout. This got my mind working so I'm excited to do other things.
Something Wild is a great pick!! Thanks so much for watching and hope all is well. 😀👋👋

A good list, Stephanie, but only one non-American movie? Can we get a list of your favourite non-American 1980s movies?
Absolutely. I kind of went with the flow of the community because at the end, they're adding everything up to see where movies land. Pretty much everyone went with the classics but I watch a ton of foreign language films. I'll be doing lists for those in the near future.
Thanks for watching. 😀👋👋
@@MovieChatter01 gotta support people who share our passions. 🙂
Summer Rental is a better alternative to Vacation.
I don't think I've seen that one in a very long time. I've put it on my list to check out. Thanks so much for watching and the recommendation. 😀👋👋
The Color Purple is a classic. I can't believe they are remaking it! Ridiculous!
Ugh with the remakes. 😫😫😫 I love The Color Purple and so many others that have had remakes. I don't understand why they keep doing that because they're really never an improvement on the original.
Thanks so much for watching the video. 😀👋👋
@@MovieChatter01 Hollywood just ran out of ideas.
No Robocop?!! Thats the number 1 movie of the 80s imo.
😂😂😂😂 you're funny. I'll protect you from the lynch mob.
Thanks so much for watching and making me smile. 😀👋👋
🙏
No Eddie Murphy? At least one of his like 48hrs, Beverly Hills, Trading Places, Coming to America should be on every 80s list. Again at least one of the classic action movies of either Lethal Weapon or Die Hard.
How we lookin?
👍👍👍
No Bladerunner and no “KHAAAAAAAAAN” ☹️
This was an absolute nightmare of a list to make. There's no way to get everything on it because it's just impossible. First problem is trying to remember all the films from the 80's and it just goes downhill from there. I don't think I'd attempt another challenge that was a full decade again. Way too wide in scope. 😵💫😵💫😵💫🥵🥵
