- This is my tribute to the genius of John Hughes in the 80's. Not only was he the king of the teenage angst movie, but had other comedic hits like Vacation, Plants, Trains, & Automobiles, and of course Home Alone. This is set to the first lady of the 80's Pat Benatar's "We Belong".

Exactly 💯 I'm so glad my cousins shared this decade with me! I was far too young to be a part of it!
I miss that decade so much
I agree 500% !!
Home alone was 1990
@@ThorOdinson-zc2kq correct
Never realized how good it really was until the last 4 years of complete national insanity.
You cannot understand how great the 80s were if you werent there. It was the best decade ever. Nothing compares
Absolutely ... sograteful to have gone through the different music then
You got that right!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
It was fantastic 💯
Agreed!
I miss the world we used to live in...
Pretty sure that's my line, or a paraphrase of it. ;-p
Mine too
Yes indeed
I agree... The world is so much more divided now... It seemed more free & easy
I’m 72 I would give anything to be younger I’d like to be 40 again maybe even 50 I’d be happy at 60… 70 brings a lot of health issues a few steps closer to you nowhere
damn... I was a teenager in the 80's
and spent my 20's in the 90's
its only decades later do I realise how lucky I was to grow up in that time.
We'll never have that time again. Glory days!
Me too, and you're right. Kids today will never know what they missed.
Me too; so true. Times have changed so much, and mostly not for the better.
I can still smell the leaves
I was thinking the exact same thing.
For those of us that remember, the eighties may have been the last generation to be truly connected by what was available to us on TV, Films, and in particular Music. There wasn’t the choice then that we have today, we watched, we listened, and we shared it all together, we laughed, and we cried together. There is of course greater access to everything now, but we collectively shared those experiences together in the 1980s, which is why we’re all still so connected. Today’s kids are tuned in and tuned out… if only we could turn back time!
you laughed harder when you were in a theatre surrounded by people laughing, you cried harder when you mom was beside you in the family room crying to a melodrama mini-series, we gathered around the lockers on Monday to talk about Friday's Miami Vice and to see who was wearing that look including no socks, we swapped albums so we could record off each other's and make mix tapes. We even had to sit n the same room to play 2 player Atari games. We shared it together.
It was the best. We had it all. Did not realise it back then
No the last gen to not be normal are the people who are now in their 40s. Gen Z are dangerous 😮 Only a few are rejecting the systems teachings.
We all grew up in a more normal innocent time. Thr reason why mostly everyone over 40 is normal is because we werent brought up by social media and narcissism as a way to aspire to be 😂.
@@gen-x-dad quantum entanglement
I remember the Cineplex, the disco, the dance clubs, the malls, the group of friends with whom I hung out. I remember going to Chi-chis Restaurant where our friends were waiters for free meals on Saturday nights (of course we paid his tip in cash)... the prom and all the preparations. Big hair and neon clothes. Frankie Goes to Hollywood.
It seems like yesterday but was a different world.
No damn cell phones or social media, real human interaction, taught people how to be confident and tough, handle real rejection, hard work, and most importantly, communication and trust were built , that is all gone now
1980's def. had cell phones; they were big and bulky but were still cellphones.
@@DmitriyK12 yea I remember but sort of a different type of phone, that was a mobile phone and sort of not the point I was making

Yep. 53 here and can tell you, without a doubt, it's true.
Smiling because these memories are golden. I want to see what nostalgia looks like in 20 years time.

We do!!!! It will never die. Best decade ever!!!!!

True. As a 52 year old I feel so lucky to have lived through the 80’s.
John Hughes films of the 80s were the absolute best. So many classics.
Wake up wach a little MTV, go to the Mall, waste a couple of quarters at Arcade, catch a John Hughes movie at the Cineplex, make out with your chick in the dark, go home and talk all night on the phone till the sun came up !!!!! Long live the 80s !!!!
Killed it with this dream, cheers
I couldn't have said it better myself. Such a much more fun and simpler time.
Absafuckinglutly ♥️♥️♥️🥳🥳🥳
The 80’s were the best
When MTV actually played music and not all these dumbass shows.
This Really Hits Hard. The Nostalgia is so strong, it hurts. My Generation misses the 80's so much we want to go back, and I'm no exception. This is just more prof that the 80's was wonderfully weird and magical. Thanks.
So damn true!
We want to go back and do it all over, but we can’t go back we know….. Didn’t Eddie Money sing that?
By far the best decade, hands down
'88 high school graduate right here. This era will never be duplicated or equaled.

Mary Stuart Masterton's teary-eyed look at Eric Stolz at the end of SKOW is one of the most iconic shots in movie history.
I wish had a girlfriend like that character
Watts was a lil cutie
When I am old and feeble, and my mind no longer functions in the present, I pray that my remaining years will be lived immersed in my memories of this decade.
well short term memory goes first, childhood memories tend to remain longer, so that might be okay :)
I have a dvd/blue ray all set up with a great 80's collection ready to go!
I became a 47 year old grandfather in 2019. Can you believe it??? Maybe I'll see you in the old folks home in 20 years. We'll party like it's 1999!!! Maybe we'll have an 80s themed Halloween bender? I'm going as Maverick.
Those who lived through the John Hughes era are very fortunate people, we are very fortunate.

Ahhh, the 80’s, what a great time to be young! I was so fortunate!
If you grew up in the 80s with his movies, it is impossible to say they didn't help shape, even a little, the person you grew up to be! The Breakfast Club and Some Kind of Wonderful were my favorites.
I watch The Breakfast Club once a year.
Mine, too. Pretty in Pink, too.😊
I was literally Andrew McCarthy in high school who desperately wanted to be Steff I even had the alternative girlfriend, and drove that BMW. All we wanted was love and acceptance, and John Hughes figured it out
@@amarbaha He has said that many of his movies came from his own life experiences. 🙂
UH" I totally agree!! I grew up in Chicago inda 80s and I could relate to all his films like I was living them. Some kind of wonderful was near the end of his classics. Quote me if I'm wrong but I remember seeing that in the theatre in 87. I left that shithole that same year! Lmao!! Still love all these movies tho! ✌🇺🇸🏁♥

He made teenage boys feel like we had a fighting chance in both life and love. His movies are a huge part of my childhood and growing up. He like so many of the 80s are forever gone and never forgotten. I wish every day it was still the 80s. The 80’s man, what a time to be alive. I was 8-18 during the best decade ever. I enjoyed every Fn day of it!!
It was for me too. I was 13 to 23 in the best decade ever.
18 to 28…. Graduated high school 80, graduated college 84, joined military 85, …
The 1980s was the decade of decadence.
The 80’s were a transition from heavy metal hair band rock, early pre gangster rap, decline of Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War, spies, the AIDS epidemic, early internet, and PC computers, which include day glow neon spandex, big hair, emergence of Nintendo…. MTV, Video arcades, VHS… cable television… decent movies.. decent soundtracks… the brat pack
Today's world is pretty awful compared to those times.... I feel very lucky to have been there 😊
Yeah NO TRUMP ZOMBIES!!!
There will NEVER be another time like the 80's! Not in television, or movies, or music, or life itself. I wish I could go back to those times.

good music, good movies and for us North Europeans, a lot of naked girls at our swimming lakes here...beer at 10, harder stuff at 12...we had freedoms, we still have!

Graduated High School (Australia) in 1984. John Hughes films were hugely important to the 80's Pop Culture vibe. I guess you had to be there to understand it. I still only listen to 80's music even today at 56 years old. I'd go back tomorrow if I could.
i left regular school in 83 here in Germany...
the 80s didnt been that pink times, fear for WW3,

One of the best. It is terrible knowing what movies are like now, in 2023. Compared to the 80's and 90's, this generation of movies is horrible.
I know what you mean. Occasionally there's been a rare gem, but good films are few and far between in the modern world.
Movies of today at the movie theater are only for the kids or an adult with a mind of a ten year old kid 🤣.

18 to 28. No better decade to spend the best years of my life.
Yes, the films of John Hughes made it to Germany as well and I simply loved them. Coming of age myself in the eighties, I couldn't help but find myself in one or another of Hughes' characters and I think we all did, right? Even today, when I come across films like "The Breakfast Club" or "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" on the tv, everything else has to wait. Doesn't matter that I have watched them a thousand times, they are still working the way they were made. You can't say that about too many films of that era. John Hughes just knew how to do it.
For those of us who grew up in the 80s, this was our golden age. Some really beautiful comments on here. Oh, to have the ability to turn back time.
