RE: Ciguatera: I have two fish biologist friends that did 7 years of cruising on a sailboat in mostly the pacific ocean. They decided to just not eat fish since it is always a risk in +/-35 lats ... and hard to determine the actual risk. You would have to ask at more than 10 locals that live off of fish for multiple years to determine a "safe species" but still knowing this data is typically from less educated/methodical persons. It was not so hard for them to not eat fish when they had also worked around them for years in hatcheries and canneries! Keep in mind there is no cure other than anticonvulsant and antidepressive pharma to cope with the chronic pain. Also keep in mind that there are many "symptomatic diseases" in modern AMA medicine ... many like fibromyalgia that have similar chronic pain that are never investigated with questions/data collection like being asked about seafood intake!
For the fabric and the screen, you can get any type of Canvas Duct, Vinyl, or Denim that has a nice weight to it. You might also add some velcro or magnets to the sides to keep the screen close. The screen you did is just too big but too big is better than too small. You can take some paper and draw your window out on it and then add an inch or two then finish it off. Once you have your template, lay down on your current screen and cut around it, just leave enough room to cover the whole window and attach it to the boat. You can get white metal tape, then just put some metal magnet strips on your screens. I just researched it on Amazon. I am a designer, started out designing wedding gowns, then went to costumes, and now I am designing custom furniture to build for my house. Basically, if there is fabric involved I can engineer it! Hope this helps. Oh, the Canvas Duct and Denim will need to be washed to preshrink before sewing, because you will want to be able to wash them. The vinyl won't need washing you can just wipe it off.
I was a navy diver stationed on guam for almost 6 years. All i did was spear fish and fish. The island was overrun with booney cats. Whenever the locals got a questionable fish, they fed some of the fish to a booney cat and watched them. If the cat ate the fish, it was safe. If the cat refused it, they would throw the fish away. The cats could tell.
I've been following Billy's then Siera's journies for what appears to be a dozen years now. My favorite videos were Your Marriage and Billy's kiteboarding video on Long Island Sound while being a lifeguard. 'A Waterman".
Wow - that was some serious wind you had come through there at night - it always seems to happen at night 😄Looks like a great freediving spot with clear water.
Billy, I would highly caution against the tiger grouper! Back in ‘04 I got a bad case of ciguatera from a tiger grouper about that size, no larger, in the out islands, not San Salvador but Crooked Island. Happy Winging! Glad to see you adopt that sport, it’s the perfect boating accessory, takes less wind than windsurfing and easier to setup on a boat than kiting!!
For the screens I would look at rubber gasket material from Sailrite. It is made for keeping water out but would work for bugs and it would likely tighten up the screens as well. I have had terrible luck with adhesive Velcro on the boat . When it gets hot it slides around and eventually falls off making a sticky mess.
The sunbrella pvc works really well for the screen surrounds. Btw thanks for the motivation to get to the Bahamas.. we’re currently grinding up from Grenada and it’s nice to have the reminder of where we’re headed!
Love this fishing episode.... I just found the repurchase of Tula video!! So exciting.... Good luck on the repairs.... Happy to see you both in warm water. Best to all three of you XO to Jetty....
Hi cousin, The material used as a border to the screen appears to be 4” wide Dacron tape folded in half. Available from Sailrite or sailmaking supply store. Fold tape in half and use the backside of your scissors to make the crease. Heat seal the edges of the tape tp prevent fraying. Easy

Billy, Sierra and Jetty. Another great video. Jetty does such a good job supervising all that goes on and the editing. She’s absolutely brilliant. Extra rubs for her from me. You guys stay safe out there can’t wait for the next one. Sending love from one of your many grandmothers.😂 LIZ in California💕⛵️💜🤟🏻😎🇺🇸
We love your videos. Thanks for all your important information. We are seriously considering buying a 1160. Have you done a polar of your boat? If not can you give me the upwind sailing numbers. Safe travels and we look forward to seeing you next week.
Such beautiful clear water there! Did you ever see any hammerhead? I noticed how were tearing out the gills on that “sushi” candidate. Does that kill the fish? And on a different subject, how long ago did you break your right collar bone? Sure left you with a big knot!
Fantastic video👍😎👍 I always learn so much from you two! Thank You! Sierra, try searching Skeeter Beater…….they make screens for cars, vans, etc…. and they definitely keep out mosquitoes and no see ums👍 I had some made for my Toyota truck! Maybe you could order some that are close enough in dimensions for your boat windows? Also, you could order some heavy duty magnets to place around any gaps/loose material. Hope this helps! Keep on doing what you love 😊
Curious to know if there is a test you can use to determine the % of the disease present to monitor whether you have some in you or your catch, like a litmus paper type of test?
HI GUYS THANKS TO SHARE YOUR ADVENTURES WITH US 😊 I HAVE A QUESTION WHAT KINE A INK YOU USE FOR THE FISH 🐟 PRINT? THANT YOU VERY MUCH CLOVIS MIRANDA ALOHA FROM MAUI
Sierra, your bug screen was funny - sorry. It's a bug trap - the same way as lobster traps. For me only a solution that is complete seal will do the trick. I know it's not so nice - what's about Velcro?
Fyi those fish toxins also apply to tuna, the varieties of mackerel, and all predatory fish out there but its not brought up because we like eating those ..
Ciguatera is generally not found in pelagic fish because they are eating smaller fish in pelagic waters away from where the dinoflagellates which are the origin of the toxin live which is on some shallow reefs. Pelagic fish may have their own issues such as heavy metal like mercury but that’s different from a neurotoxin like ciguatera.
@11:11 is adorable.
I'm glad you take ciguatera seriously. So many don't and end up sick. Thanks for the Bahama diving and sailing.

The fish prints are coming out so rad, Sierra!! Hope you’re continuing to “keep the smoke in”, Billy! Sending love from Canada 🤙🤙
So velcro strips with magnetic strips for fly screens, can then remove easily. Usually in camping shops or the like:)

Hello to the beautiful couple sailing! Your smiles and happy attitude bring joy to the heart.
I haven’t been home in so long this brought back a lot of memories for me San Salvador home sweet home glad nothing change glad you enjoy
Thanks guys, we really appreciate your videos. Give JETTY some well deserved Lovin from us. Stay safe y'all.
GO JETTY GIRL. 👍🏻💕🐾🍖
It was wonderful seeing San Salvador. Was there a long time ago doing some underwater mapping. The diving was phenomenal! Glade to see it still is!
For your odd shaped bugscreen, I would use velcro. One side with adhesive band the one on the bugscreen stitched to it.
Prints are lovely.
Pro tip add those fried plantain in ur sushi 🍣 freaking delicious with avocado 🥑 love y’all videos ❤❤
Thats awesome. Now I want to go see that part of the Bahamas. Either way the water is amazing. Put some velcro on the screens. It will work great.
So good to see the reunion of you 4 - epic episode !
I am obsessed with your prints Sierra! They are awesome!
You should take your lobster and fish prints and make shirt merchandise….kewl personal touch designed shirts. ❤
The sunbrella pvc works really well for the screen surrounds. Btw thanks for the motivation to get to the Bahamas.. we’re currently grinding up from Grenada and it’s nice to have the reminder of where we’re headed!

Yeah seriously! That breakfast looked AMAZING!!!!
Great video, loving the puppy cameos. We are presently sailing in Brazil, seeing where to go in the Bahamas.
Always enjoy the adventures!!!!!!
Those ink prints are very cool. You all keep doing your thing!
6/14/24 - Good Fri. Morning from Charleston,SC ! Enjoy your Video's.

No se-emu go through normal screening. You need extra fine screening. You find it in. Most tents.
love the new merch..get the sun shirts every year
Beautiful❤ Never gets. Love the art.
Great videos guys! I will check out the Tula shop!
Sierra, I've seen more untidy boats than yours. Billy, thank U 4 educating us about ciguatera. Safe travels. ❤

Billy coming in clutch with the life saving science and details 😎👍🏻👍🏻
Billy you’re getting so buff…… looks like you have an 8-pack!!!!!
If you can make it work, from Florida, go west to Belize. Belize has some of the healthiest reefs and best diving on the planet. Good luck.
Those are so awesome
Wind sailing too!!! Is there anything you guys can't do 😊 👍👍
Your fish prints are amazing...
Love you guys from Canada❤

great vid guys, yall gotit going on..good fishin an havin fun..staysafe..
What about some magnets on those screens? They have them with sticky backs.
Thanks for sharing your adventures and cooking. 😊
I think you should pass on the tiger grouper. They are a known species. Cheers.
Sadly we will miss you, because you just left the Exumas. Great prints, I love it.
We love your videos. Thanks for all your important information. We are seriously considering buying a 1160. Have you done a polar of your boat? If not can you give me the upwind sailing numbers. Safe travels and we look forward to seeing you next week.
Brilliant thank you Ray uk
Great dive vid. So jealous!
Love your new boat!
Get some velcro tape put one section on the boat in one section on the screens that should work good to keep the bugs out.
Such beautiful clear water there! Did you ever see any hammerhead? I noticed how were tearing out the gills on that “sushi” candidate. Does that kill the fish? And on a different subject, how long ago did you break your right collar bone? Sure left you with a big knot!
Love you guys.
@22:20 Wrap that bamboo mat in plastic wrap my man! Way easier!
Love love love the prints
Use blue painters' tape on the screen lip and move the screen on the outside for a temp fix. till you come up with a real solution.
Hey Sierra, why not try sticky back Velcro for the screen? Can stick to the wall and then the other side can stick and sew to the screen? 😊
Fantastic video👍😎👍
I always learn so much from you two! Thank You!

Keep on doing what you love 😊
Velcro around the edge of your screens❤
Are there storm jib options for the 1170, or do you only have the option of winding the existing jib on its stay?
You are doing it. Crazy Canadain. 🎉❤😢😮😊
Try magnet strips for loose screens
You must go scu diving on the wall off San Salvador
Will the lobster tail be on a tula t shirt or hoodie? The ink print one!
Maybe some day but we have a few other fish prints on some sun shirts in the Tula Shop already tulasendlesssummer.com/product-category/tula-shop/
I used velcro around the perimeter to seal out the bugs.
Are you going to Grenada
Do you guys colour in the eyes on those fish prints afterwords?
Lordy Billy your looking buff 💪
Let us know if you ever plan another meet & greet….would love to meet you.
Try attaching some magnet strips for the screens..
Couldn't you use bias tape? Or pwehaps velcro in addiron to the bias tape or alone
paradise
How about different colors and even fluorescence paint?😎
What is the beam on your cat ? Always wondered how hard it is to find docking, but I guess you anchor more than dock
Is this a 1170?
Great video
should use the fish prints to make TULA Shirts
Already got them up in The Tula Shop :-) tulasendlesssummer.com/product-category/tula-shop/
I have dived the Great Barrier Reef in Australia extensively and Hammer Head sharks are great to see but not something I hope to see to often.
Curious to know if there is a test you can use to determine the % of the disease present to monitor whether you have some in you or your catch, like a litmus paper type of test?
HI GUYS THANKS TO SHARE YOUR ADVENTURES WITH US 😊
I HAVE A QUESTION
WHAT KINE A INK YOU USE FOR THE FISH 🐟 PRINT?
THANT YOU VERY MUCH
CLOVIS MIRANDA
ALOHA FROM MAUI
The black ones are squid ink:) the colored ones are just acrylic paint :)
Please do a video on your dingy what u like what u dont like recommendations on wich one to buy please and thank you !!!
You guys should get that dingy cover thing like TheCruisingKiwis have.
is the screen edging the problem, or is it because the wall isn't flat so the screen doesn't rest flat?
What is that lump under your collar bone? Swelled lymph node? Have it checked out
Blue see remind me on trip to Faliraki
Magnets for the screen. Do you spear or loop catch the crayfish/Lobster. Know there are different countries different rules
The Monument to Columbus landfall is on the east side of the island
Two or four Delco strips and stick them together on the boat and on the screen
Sierra, your bug screen was funny - sorry. It's a bug trap - the same way as lobster traps.
For me only a solution that is complete seal will do the trick.
I know it's not so nice - what's about Velcro?
On the bug screens, a mechanical solution should be strived for, but I have used the practice of spraying some" Cutters " at the gaps.
Why not velcro for the screen? The stuff that has tape on the back to be clear.
Need a new dingy, SV Zatara is selling their old dingy. It is a Highfield.
They are selling it at a low almost giving it away price. 😊
Thank you for breakfast princess!
Good
Get velcro tape for the screens.
Yes.blessings...m
