Thank you kind sir and AMD for the this intel, taken my 2020 off-rd and multiple service reps said nothing they can do that the under performance of the A/C is due to the humidity so thanks yall for the help
Thanks for listing the A/C Auxiliary Fan "TSB Number 63-18 fix". Local dealer unaware and not helpful when saying he's not aware of any Toyota Fix and didn't even try to look it up. Now I know so will try again. Thanks again.
@@denn2366 I had brought it in during the summer for this issue and they said it was fine watched this video and took it back to them during the winter with the TSB # they said they could not reproduce the issue (No brainer, it was 60 degrees out) I told them I brought it in during the summer and had the paperwork in hand from that visit and they still did not want to do it. I do not think they really want to do this repair
Yea I had the same situation and I basically told they its cover threw toyota and I need it done. I had to ask for the manager and explain it all over that's it cover, after all that said and pretty much arguing with them they said they don't have it in stock and would have to order it cuzz they don't ever do those upgrades. I have a feeling I'm the only one in the area that is getting it done...
I have a 2016 Tacoma, with only 50k miles, I've seen 80% of the problems this guy mentioned. He knows what he's talking about!! He seems like a great mechanic, wish he lived close to me.
Hey brother just purchased a 2016 with 60k miles on it. Didn’t know much about the issues. I checked it out and it’s seems to be working fine had one previous owner and they took care of it. Any advice if I encounter these problem?
Once you fixed the major issues the first time did they constantly reappear or how has it been since you experienced them. I did notice when I purchased mine that the coolant was a little low made sure to get that fixed but haven’t noticed any change on it since
This is the best review I’ve seen. I’m tired of the guys that sit in the front seat and say, “This one has leather, this one has plastic. Here’s the rear view mirror. Here’s the leather seats.” 🙄 I can see the interior for myself. I want to know about the engines and what kind of coolant I’m gonna see on my garage floor. I want to know which gen is best. I need to know about transmissions and gear hunting, not the cup holders. I know I’m a girl, but c’mon. THIS is the best kind of review. Thank you! 💕
This video is of immense value to any Toyota Tacoma owners and potential buyers. Tangible issues, not personal opinions, and absolutely no “wishywashy” nonsense. A tremendous service to consumers. Thank you, sir. Please keep up the good work.
We need more master techs (from other manufacturers)doing indepth reviews like this for the cars that they work on AMD you are doing the whole community a huge service!
Just bought a 2016 🤦🏽♂️but watching this video makes me feel comfortable on what to look out for. It’s 2024 and there’s 70,000 mile on it. I’m hoping for the best.
I have a 2016 also trd sport. There are some recalls on certain areas of this truck so thats good for us. Mine is starting to leak a little oil and i have an idle serge that is fixable. Other than that its a beautiful truck.
Lesson here is don't buy the first two years of a new model. It's almost better to buy the last year of a model before it moves over to a new redesign. All the bugs got fixed.
Yes you are so ✅ right. I had a 2013 Tacoma and it was dead reliable. My one brother in law bought a 16 Tacoma and he has spent $6 to $7000 in repairs. His AC does not work...thinks it.needs new timing chains and who knows what else.
@T H the audio system is fine, all frames exposed to the elements will rust, the engine has plenty of power it's the gearing that holds it back. But I also agree that this truck is lagging far behind of literally everything on the US market in terms of technology and the QC on this truck is absolute garbage.
Yup, I bought a 2020 Corolla, but got the 1.8 engine instead, which has the same transmission and engine as 2014-2019 Corollas. The SE sportier version has the 2.0 engine and a new CVT, although I haven’t heard of any issues with those engines, you should always make sure before you buy a new model car, especially if the engine and transmission is redesigned and new.
I own a 2015 2.7L 2wd ext cab tacoma with 44,562 on the odometer. I’m 33 years old. I look forward to being that old man in his 70’s still holding on to that tacoma, and looking back at this comment and watching this video
I still have my '97 4Runner. Runs and looks like brand new. Been the most reliable car I've ever owned. I planning on keeping it forever. Hope to say the same about my Tacoma in another 24 years.
Right on Bro! My Taco is an overpriced, always breaking POS that is NOT made in the USA or Japan. I too had a 67 Chevy Van, also had over 300K. Drove it all over Canada, dirt roads and onto Alaska. So easy to work on. Wish I still had it. Worth big $. Seldom see Toyota trucks used by companies to work, and a lot more old Chevys still on the road than Tacos. Toyota is like a cult. Beware the dealers, YIKES!
AMD, the large tacoma community would really love and appreciate diy maintenance video from a professional like yourself. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
When the new Ranger came out I was debating on that or a Tacoma. My wife said "you want bells and whistles or something reliable, dependable and when it hits 300k will still be worth more than a Ford". I ended up with a '17 TRD Sport and very happy with it.
I looked at the new Ranger too since to older one was very popular. I few things about the interior, radio and HVAC control I didn't like. Plus some of Ford's Ecoboost engines have issues. I went and looked at a new Tacoma and the decision on what to get was made. It was hard to to find exactly what I was looking for in 2020 post Covid but I got it. Love the truck.
@@shawnn6926 that's nice you like your truck, im wanting to ungrade, my brother in law has become sick and my sister has his 2017 Toyota Tacoma sport 3.5 with only 4,500 miles garage kelt, wants $25,000 looking at the price it seems cheap for the miles. I have a 2000 Toyota Tacoma sr5 4 wheel drive, bought in 2004, it has 220,000 still in good shape, its just getting older. I'm 60 now and want a newer truck since my 2000 is getting some wear.
It’s why I went ahead in summer of 2015 and bought one of the last former type. Haven’t had a single problem in six years. Wonderful vehicle, utterly reliable.
2016 with 118k miles. timing chain cover leak and 3rd brake light. no blind spot monitoring, no frills. going to keep it as long as i can. love the channel
I have owned a 2020 Tacoma 3.5 for 2 years. The first 1.5 years and about 50k miles it was bone stock. Decided to get the truck tuned and WOW what a difference it made. This truck is such a joy to drive now. Feels like a completely different truck. Wish I did it sooner. Well worth the $425 tune. I have gone about 6k miles since the tune and noticed a slight MPG increase but the improved driveability is unreal.
@@AndyTN64 I have a 2020 TRD Sport 4x4, hands down the best tune you can get for performance, longevity and drivability is the Overland Tailor Tune. There’s a night a day difference, it’ll make you wish it was the first thing you did after you drove it off the lot. Amazing is the best way to describe it. I had mine done when there was 30k miles and I’m now at 90k, not a single problem or regret. It will be the best money you’ve ever spent on any vehicle experience you’ve had in your life, yes it makes that much of a difference
@@andybankston8413what do you mean by tune? You’re not referring to tune up right? I need details, I have a 2020 taco trd and want it to last and function well as long as possible
@@TheOfficialDOP not at all but those will also keep your truck running well for a long time. As I stated in my original comment “the Overland tune” or its proper name, “The Overland Torque Tune”, hands down the best money you’ll ever spend on your truck and the wisest decision. Look it up online, find a tuner near you and meet up with them. It’s that simple, an hour and $400 later you’ll be wishing you had done it right off the lot and you’ll be signing their praises. It makes that big of a difference, now you might get a couple extra HP’s from KDMAX and several other tunes out there but the OTT tuner is specifically designed for drivability, torque where you actually need it and vehicle longevity. It fixes everything you feel the truck is lacking and some things you may not have noticed. Better gas mileage, better performance, no gear hunting, more power, and options for two different shift patterns at the touch of a button. The only thing I regret about it is that I didn’t get it sooner. Also since you brought up longevity, do yourself a favor and get an oil catch can. An eBay special for $40 is all you need and it will do long term wonders for you also
I got the 2021 2.7 almost 2wks ago and I love it!!!. Like a commentor said... I won't win a race but I will win a lot of marathons....LONGEVITY BABY!!!!
I also have a 2.7, 2015. these engines will continue to run long after the apocalypse. so far I've got 150k, which is baby miles. My last 2.7 was an 07, had 265k on it and was running great, but the frame rotted out and i was too late for the recall :-( anyway happy to have a newer model but I do miss my manual, this ones an automatic and I'm not a fan. But it'll take me wherever I need to go regardless so no complaints.
@@Eclipsed_Phoenix i have an automatic transmission as well, i wanted a manual but they told me it was discontinued in the base model and that it was only available in the trd trims. Its a Cool truck and my daily driver
Same here except I bought a nice used 2016 TRD sport. Mine is a Texas Edition and is a Texas truck, so no rust. I haven't had any issues. It has 106,000 + mls on it now. I just replaced the rotors & pads. It is on its third set of Michelins and a new battery today. No issues so far. I will be keeping a close eye on those major, minor issues. Good video. Thanks.
2021 trd sport manual trans owner here, i've mainly had jeeps for about 15 years and decided to get something different and was not disappointed, I love this truck.
@@brookebrawley2142 hey, I no longer have the 2021 V6 Tacoma. I never had any issues with it all.. even put a leveling kit on it and actually gained MPG somehow… I now have a 2019 4Runner (TRD off road premium)
I bought a 2018 Tacoma used in 2019 and love it! Haven’t had any issues. I do live in the Phoenix area where we get to over 115 degrees and haven’t had any issues with my AC so maybe the previous owner put in that fan kit you were talking about. I do take it off roading often and this truck is a beast.
Amd I recently bought a 21 Tacoma and all of a sudden I feel better about having it in my life. Thank you for your expertise and your years of wisdom in the graceful Toyota world.
I often have people asking how reliable my 2011 Tacoma has been. I just point to my 1991 Tacoma X-Tra Cab with 490,000 miles and say... well, so far, I’ve had to replace the batteries and tires on both of them. And the clutch on the ‘91 standard shift. That’s about it. 😊
I’ve had a 2016 4x4 Sport, got it with front end damage with 12000 miles and have had no leaking or weird noises at all. I did all the needed recalls at Toyota within the first year, not sure if they got everything but I’ve had none of the issues mentioned.. which I now realize is a blessing.
I bought a 2016 Trd sport 3 years ago. Made in America. Had 66k miles on it. Only problem I had was the fuel pump. Have 132k on it now. Made all my mods: regear, lockers, bilsteins, etc. It's mine now. Still searches for gears here in Colorado but still by far the best designed, engineered and fabricated vehicle I've owned in 40 years. I've owned them all, Ram, Chevy , Ford, diesel, gas. Love my Tacoma!
Excellent resource, thank you. A tale of our two Tacoma's, 2005 & 2018..both developed AC issues this past summer. Repair costs for the 2005 with 185K miles: $128 (recharge) , the 2018 with 62K miles: $ 1250 (compressor & not covered by warranty)
Toyota messed up with the oil filters on these. Used to be on top now it is under the engine with the dumb plastic cap that make a mess and often leak. Toyota bring back the steel spin on oil filters, Please. Great video as always.
I changed my oil the first time already and the plastic canaster was no problem for me. Was just different and you need to take you time with putting the o rings on in the correct places and don't over tighten it when reinstalled. Do that and you with have no problem. Using the motiveX cap wrench with 27mm socket is ideal for working on it too.
Thanks for making this video. I have the 2019 Tacoma and fortunately do not have any issues, I do appreciate the tip about engaging the 4 wheel drive on a monthly basis.
We had a 2013 Tacoma, loved it. Traded in for a 2020 Tundra , we love it. But , I missed the little Tacoma , so I went & bought a 2021 Tacoma , for me . We recently took it on a trip up to Colorado from Texas . Great for 2 people to travel in .....
Same. My '97 4runner is still reliable as hell though. I think she still has a couple hundred thousand miles left in her. Hope my new Tacoma has the same longevity.
My 2017 V6 SR5 DCLB has been near flawless for almost 100,000 Kms. A couple of recalls and a tie rod. All regular maintenance and a set of front pads and rotors. Great, reliable truck so far and I work it hard.
Thanks for the video! I have a 2007 Tacoma I bought new. It’s been nearly bombproof, all I ever replaced outside of a recall was the starter. That said, the newer technology has been really enticing and I just put a deposit down on a ‘21 model. I feel even better about my decision after this video.
I had no idea about any of the engine issues with the V6. I've got a 2019 that I rarely use 10k in 2 years and I'm shocked that these issues could come up likely when warranty is expired. A cab off repair does not sound fun at all. Thank you very informative
This video has 424 views day one 40 minutes after posting. Can’t wait to see this video and the Tundra Video hit 500k to 1m views in a year. Great info that will be used by countless people. Another good job AMD
I have a 17' pro and had the door sill paint bubble/rust issue. Luckily I caught it before the paint/body warranty expired and was able to get it repaired but the first repair the dealership's body shop did a really poor job. Caught them in the act of trying to pull a fast one and made them redo it the right way.
This is the best and most informative video about the Tacoma that I’ve seen! This is the information I’ve searched for! Thank you for sharing your extremely valuable knowledge! I put a deposit down on a 2021 Tacoma, and now will definitely purchase the vehicle, because you have expertly addressed all of the issues and reliability problems I’ve heard about and more... Thank you so much!
I bought my Tacoma 2016 Off Road shortbed back on February 2016 and have never had any problems it runs fantastic. I have kept up on all updates and maintenance as of now it has 52456 miles mostly highway it’s also been off road / beach down at Pismo Beach This is the first Toyota that I have had ….. I would buy it again
Love all the insightful videos. Your videos on the Toyota Tacoma has definitely helped me with making my decision on purchasing a 3rd gen Tacoma. I took your great advice and purchased a 2020 Tacoma limited 4x4 over settling with a cheaper 2016-2017 Taco which are a dime a dozen. Thanks again for the content you put together, the hands on experience and insight you provide!
I bought a new ‘18 TRD 2X4 Sport, had it 3 years, other than one recall, it was worry free. Sold it to my brother who loves it, no issues. Just last week I purchased a ‘23 4X4 TRD Off Road, needed a reliable truck for projects around the home You can’t go wrong with these Tacoma’s, treat them right and they will reward you for many years
Currently Im driving 2016 sr5 and it’s been great and I love it, and I’m also possibly getting a 2020 trd sport, so I cant wait and I’m going to trust your word and hope it’s great 😂
I have a 2014 model, which is the Second Generation. Trd sport crew cab, and I'm glad I do. I've not had any issues with the truck whatsoever, very happy with it, I take good care of it and I plan on keeping it, I believe its the best overall model as far as I'm concerned and so do many others believe this to be so.
I'm in agreement with you...have a 14' TRD SPORT V6 access cab...6 ft bed ..perfect with color matched cap...did not need back seats..latest mod was installing LED Lights and fog mid in the truck....amazing visibility at nite
You are correct. Lifting my 2019 Tacoma drove the lane departure and collision avoidance system bonkers! All kinds of warning lights and dinging. Fortunately my dealership is fantastic. I was able to sign a waver and they deactivated all that useless crap for me. By Lifting it and replacing most of the suspension I also got rid of the things I didn't like about the truck.... The crazy amount of body roll and the nose diving while braking. Once done I threw away the sway bar and now the truck is perfect on and off road!
I used to own a 2006 Tacoma 4.0 V6... i beat the Snot out of that thing for 12 years and it NEVER let me down. I looked at newer ones (2018-2019) but Toyota changed the cab design, it was actually smaller, and I’m 6’4”...So i traded in for a 2019 Tundra 1794... its been rock solid so far. Sad news the V8 is going away. 😢
Bought a 2016 TRD SPORT 3.5 4WD new in December 2015. I've owned it for 6 1/2 years and have 37,700 miles on it. Kinda freaked out watching this because I've only done oil changes and tire rotations and scheduled maintenance. It surged a little when at idle the first year so maybe they upgraded the software when I took it in for an oil change. I need to have the brake light done under warranty but it's not leaking. AC is good, no noises to complain about. I'm sure he sees more 2016 models come in because they've been on the road longer and have the highest miles but don't doubt earlier years had some gremlins. Of course the 2019-2022's will develop some of their own, just give it time. I'm crossing my fingers mine was made early enough that quality control was higher than the later 2016's. I'll have the frame rust looked at and will toss it into 4 wheel drive each month. If you're looking at a Tacoma I wouldn't avoid a 2016. I think newer models are way too expensive. Mine is a crewcab and is loaded. I paid $34,500 new. The exact same truck is around $46k now. I can sell mine every day next week for $33k so basically it's cost me $1500 over 6 1/2 years and looks brand new. Why pay $10( more for the same truck? I've looked and they're exactly the same execpt they added crap like adaptive cruise and lane assist. Junk I don't want and lime he said you can't modify the newer ones so an added bonus having a 2016. I lifted the front of mine and added new wheels an Nito Grapplers. Rides great. Every Tacoma will have its issues if driven enough and they all break so I feel he's pointed things out he's seen because the 2016 has been around the longest. I've had no radio issues, no noises, no body rust and had it since Dec 2015. I'm not sure how many were built in 2016, maybe.200,000 + so hoping the issues he pointed out are more rare than expected. Good video though, but watching these always are a little unsettling. It's not bad info but I'll bet any amount of money there's 2019-2022's that have had major problems too. Kinda think some of these videos are sponsored by Toyota to get owners to bring them in to their delaers for service or to get guys like me to trade up to a brand new year. I mean the first thing he said is he's a Toyota mechanic and mechanics are notorious for saying stuff needs fixing. Not saying that's the case but not pointing out stuff on newer models is suspicious to me. Surely the newer Tacomas have issues so??? Hmm I looked at all the comments and if 2016's were notoriously bad there would have been dozens and dozens of comments. He says he sees hundreds and then said thousands and I see there's been hundreds of thousands of views to this video. I would expect hundreds of comments from people with 2016's but where are they? Don't avoid the 2016 because of this video.
I have a 2020 Tacoma with the 4 cyl. 2 wheel drive. I live in Florida, so it’s very flat here, I do tow my little 17’ Boston Whaler with the truck and have not had any problems with pulling the boat out of the water or launching. I don’t tow it more than 20 miles, so I don’t have any feedback towing long term. I have loaded the bed with 600lbs of rock and paver stones more than once with no trouble at all. Overall I’m very happy with the truck, it will get 27 mpg when I run with no load and the a/c off. On the highway with the a/c on I get about 22 mpg. I do change my oil every 5k miles, I do not follow the toyota recommended interval of 10k miles.
This video was a big reason I decided to jump on a 2016 2.7L 5sp manual truck. its been 30,000 miles of trouble free driving so far, certainly underpowered but does feel like she will go for ever.
Thank you for the excellent video! At 600 miles, I changed the engine oil with Amsoil SS, F/R diff and TC with Red Line 75W85/MT-LV, and the Manual transmission oil with Amsoil MTF/75W90. The MT oil was about .6qts low from the factory and the rear diff was over a pint low. MT oil surprisingly dark at low miles. Normal break-in shavings observed on magnetic plugs. Filled all until weeping except for TC which is 5mm below fill hole. Put neodymium drain and fill plugs in all areas in hopes of catching more metal as things slosh around. Rear diff venting the gas from the breather is stinky after a long drive, but no other issues as of now and the smell is gone in a few minutes, and doesn't linger so it's not a leak. Multiple reports on forums about low factory fill on auto transmissions, definitely would go through the annoying weep procedure if I had an auto and confirm the fluid level at the specified temperature range.
Finally, the video I've been waiting for! Proud owner of a 2008 4-Banger 5 speed manual transmission! I was looking to upgrade to a new model, your video makes it much easier!
My 2017 TRD Sport has had most of these issues. The frame whistle, third brake light leak, front breaks were done, etc. One more issue I would add would be the battery. Had to change mine out already with no excessive use, meaning, I hardly use the rear power converter and don't usually use the ignition power modes when parked. Thanks for the video!
Not to discount any of your other problems, but battery performance has gone completely to Hell in the last five years. EVERY brand, every size class. Even Caterpillar has binned their industry leading warranty program. Can’t blame a pickup for getting a bad battery, here and there.
Odyssey makes a fine battery still, the issues with AGMs in our trucks is that our charging system doesn't do the job very well due to the charge voltage, so they need to be topped off with a charger overnight once a month. Not a huge deal, but I liked Optima batteries but add them to the heap of lowered battery performance.
My 2011 Taco 6.0L is getting ready to turn 250K. NEVER had an issue. Fluids, filters, brakes all maintained fairly regularly. She will get her third set of tires for her anniversary.
I'm thinking on buying a Tacoma, and it is very helpful to know all the issues from a first hand high trained technician. We have all the list of issues per year and model in just one video. Thanks.
Rust area issue. Neutral safety switch seizes up, the shifter gets stiff. Transmission shifting issues. Rust area issue, the paper on the rear drum rusts the drum to axle hub mounting serface cause and vibration. Great video
Excellent video. This tracks very well with my experience (2019 SR5 4WD). DON'T BUY if you're expecting a smooth, quiet road car ride. Buy if you want a heavy-duty midsize truck that feels and rides like a truck.
I love the simplicity of the 4 cylinder, and I know they last until you are just tired of them. My 22RE still going strong with over 420K, it’s just VERY underpowered. I can’t see why Toyota hasn’t tweaked the 2.7 up to around 200hp. The ability is there, has been there for a long time. Give me a 2.7 with around 200hp and I’m all over it!
I have the 2016 4cyl and it has NO power. This engine is an embarrassment for Toyota. Always have to press the ECT button and always down shifting the auto trans, especially for any kind of incline. I also have a 4cyl 2013 Rav4 and it's like night and day - tons of pep and throttle response. And it has nothing to do with weight - I carry nothing in the bed most times.
@@frankcee4342 My wife’s new RAV has over 200 HP out of a 2.5 engine. I know it has all kinds of added items that may cause problems down the road, but as you say, night and day. There is no way a large 4 cylinder can’t have 200 HP or more with all the technological advances they have already proven. I know this can be done without a turbo, although with the new Tundra coming out with turbos, I think Toyota will be using them more and more.
I had an 80’s Toyota 4x4 with a 22R (no fuel injection). It could go anywhere and never broke down. My buddies used to call me for a tow if they ever broke down in a mud hole.
We have a 2016, rear wheel, smaller engine Tacoma and haven’t had too many problems. We bought it used last year. It has 90,000 miles. It was a fleet truck for bug exterminator. My husband is a machinist and checked it out carefully before we bought it. They had just replaced all the brakes. We did need to do the AC fix. It does ride like a old time pick up, but that’s ok. We live in the rust belt and will be undercoating it. We pull a smaller pop up camper and she doesn’t have any problems with it.
I enjoy your videos man. Very good personality and content. Good job. I am very proud of my 04 Prerunner I bought last year. My first Toyota truck. My next Tacoma will come in a few years. I'd love a 4x4. My dad has drove Yota trucks for many years and got me into them. He still uses and abuses a 96 T100 with 361,000 miles. His 96 Tacoma has 400,000 on it. Rusty and beat to hell but fires right up.
I have a 2019 and I live in NY. I've been using Fluid Film every year inside and out. So far I have zero rust. In the spring I use a salt neutralizer to remove salt stains from my cars. I also treat my 2017 Honda Civic and it's still rust-free too.
AMD, I prefer the term 'Salt Belt'. I live in the Salt Belt and this morning my 16 year old 'Toyota' got its Spring cleaning. It shines in the sun like the day I bought it because my PREVENTATIVE maintenance program includes annual RUSTPROOFING. Rust = Neglect.
Funny you say that. I had a 13 Tacoma and when I bought it new, the salesman asked if I wanted DIAMOMD KOTE. I said why not. That $600 was well.spent. my frame was rock solid. 🪨 Now, with my new Tundra, KROWN RUST.
@@MrMikey1273 I am in Canada, the land that invented rust. Each year I set aside one whole hour to let Krown Rustproofing take of my car. The cost is equal to approximately 20 gallons of gas.
A bit off topic but I have an 06 Taco, 2WD, 4 cyl, automatic, SR5 with 373,000 miles. Still runs like a watch! The only unscheduled problems -- replaced leaky valve cover gasket at 160K, replaced a failed u-joint at 200K, and the clear-coat on the hood has been gone for years. I might have to beat it to death with a stick!
I bought an orbital sander, sanded the shit out of the body and painted with rustoleum professional, actually looks great even two years later and always in the sun.
I have a 2016 with 85,000+ miles with 0 issues :) I am thinking about trading it in for a 2020+ model, not for any issues but simply because mine is a TRD Sport 2WD and I really want a 4x4 regardless of trim.
Glad I found your Chanel, have had Tacoma's for years, just got a 2022 SX 4x4 with the 2.7 engine. Love it, this engine has an outstanding reputation. I hated to change the oil in the 3.5, dropping the skid plate and dealing with that canister oil filter sucked. Yes I gave up some power but really don't need it for what I use it for.
Great video again! I special ordered my 2016 Tacoma TRD off-road 4X4 in Blazing Blue Pearl, it was built in Texas in May 2016 and the only major issue I had was a leaking fuel line right above exhaust manifold on the drive side at 80K miles. I also had to replace the blower motor at 30K miles. I have not got any recalls on it, yet. Still have the original front brakes, no rust what so ever here in Florida. Great point about the rear drums though, the driver side one is always catching first (2nd click on the hand brake), I wish my dealer would take the time to adjust it properly. Time to explore another dealer. I Was rear-end 2 years ago, I was at a standstill on I-75 and a Frontier ran into me around 35-40 MPH. The Frontier was destroyed. It make about $6500 of damages on my Tacoma, including the driver seat that was destroyed to protect me from whiplash injury! I used to change cars every 2-3 years... I have no intension of selling this one.
Same. Did they jack your price over MSRP too? Seems to be a shortage here. The lots are empty and all my local dealers have been adding a couple thousand over MSRP.
I'm jumping from my 2002 Tacoma SR5 to a Pre-owned 2019 SR from the dealership. So yeah, this video has given me some great comfort. I'll still be using my 2002; hopefully, for another few years. I'm 67 now, so I fully expect this 2019 to be my last vehicle purchase.
I love my base model 01 Tacoma. It has 260k on it and runs great. In 2017 I test drive a new base model Tacoma. It felt like junk. I bought a new frontier instead. 100k later and I’ve had zero problems.

I did notice when I purchased mine that the coolant was a little low made sure to get that fixed but haven’t noticed any change on it since
I'm thinking about jumping brands. Thank you for your insight!
Thank you! 💕

I bought a 2018 Camry SE. First year design so far no problems.
@@jaysmith179 me too mine never got a recall no nothing at all so far no issues I guess I got a good badge

So easy to work on. Wish I still had it. Worth big $. Seldom see Toyota trucks used by companies to work, and a lot more old Chevys still on the road than Tacos. Toyota is like a cult.

Same here on the oil change, I'm 72 and even 5k seems long to me, oh! I always use synthetic oil.
Super helpful! Thanks for taking the time to address all these issues and concerns. Highly recommended for anyone looking to purchase a Toyota Tacoma.
Hands down, THE best automobile review I have ever seen. GREAT Job!
LOVE this channel.
Just bought my 3rd Toyota pickup
2.7 4cyl tough little bird.
2018 34,000 miles. Tacoma POWER!
God Bless you AMD!
This was video was just simply pure, unadulterated, Fantastic Tacoma wisdom. Thank You!
My 2011 Taco 6.0L is getting ready to turn 250K. NEVER had an issue. Fluids, filters, brakes all maintained fairly regularly. She will get her third set of tires for her anniversary.
6.0!?
I'm thinking on buying a Tacoma, and it is very helpful to know all the issues from a first hand high trained technician.
We have all the list of issues per year and model in just one video.
Thanks.
i wish i found this before buying my 16 but ill defiantly be on a look out for these things
Yes, if you don't need to tow, you should buy it. My wife and I have had three, one lost to an accident, and they are fantastic.
2020 TRD Off Road DCLB - Still runs great with no problems at 10K.
Rust area issue. Neutral safety switch seizes up, the shifter gets stiff. Transmission shifting issues.
Rust area issue, the paper on the rear drum rusts the drum to axle hub mounting serface cause and vibration.
Great video
Thank you for the no nonsense overview. I’m about to get a Tacoma… I am now armed with what I need moving forward.
Excellent video. This tracks very well with my experience (2019 SR5 4WD). DON'T BUY if you're expecting a smooth, quiet road car ride. Buy if you want a heavy-duty midsize truck that feels and rides like a truck.
Idk my 2021 TRD sport double cab drives like truck but rides better then my 2018 accord sport
I bought a used one lifted with the cheapo ready lift so mine rides a little harsh, about to upgrade to a Dobinsons suspension with the leaf pack tho
2020 SR with just over 13K miles....zero problems. Absolutely love the truck.
2019 with 30k and 0 problems. I do a lot of off roading too and still no problems.
Hell yeah 201hp that is it. Damn toyota. Its all money, they will no longer sell the shittt 3.5 if they updated the reliable but boring 2.7
@@frankcee4342 If you tune the 2.7 it actually hauls ass for a 4cylinder in a truck. Tune makes a big difference
I had an 80’s Toyota 4x4 with a 22R (no fuel injection). It could go anywhere and never broke down. My buddies used to call me for a tow if they ever broke down in a mud hole.
Seeing this video is why I bought my 2011 single cab 4 cyl 4 speed auto 4x4 and first gen tundra rear diff. Everything is bulletproof.
I have a 2013 4 cylinder and it's still running like a champ. I just change the oil every 4,000 miles and it's all good.
As you promised, tacoma on Saturday. great video!!!
21 sr5 4x4 here, 18k miles, no issues to speak of. My only issue is the cartridge oil filter, just stick with a spin on jmo.
Salt belt it is!
@@TheCarCareNut Excellent.
I'm in Pennsylvania and I started to spray my frame and rocker panels with Fluid Film.
I was just about to buy a 2016 2wd in the rust belt. 57k miles but after the frame issue was mentioned, I’m out. THANK YOU!!!!
Great video. I wish I saw this before buying my used '17, but thankfully I haven't experienced any of these issues that were discussed.
I have a 2017 Tacoma Ltd, thank you for the valuable information.
Why buy a used one when you can get a new for a couple 1000 more (or less).
this is why i pulled the trigger on my 2021 someone gets it!!
Used ones are more than new right now with the chip shortage and low production. I ordered new.
@@shannondixon3767 2018 used sr5 4x4 with 30k miles on it was goin for 42k at the dealer crazy hah
Exactly
Now new is cheaper. I just got my 2021 TRD Off-road cheaper than used one
And yes the owners manual does say specifically to run it for 10 miles per month in 4WD.
Finally someone knows self adjusting brakes don’t really work. When Toyota makes a Tacoma with disc brakes all the way around I’ll get one.
Just got my 2021 last Friday, it was great and smooth 👌
Same. Did they jack your price over MSRP too? Seems to be a shortage here. The lots are empty and all my local dealers have been adding a couple thousand over MSRP.
@@thelsel348 no , everything was fine and pretty good deal
Cool, I'm loving mine so far but paid a markup because of shortages here. Plus I got cement which is in high demand.
God bless
My 2002 didn't last 2 months after I posted my comment. I ended up selling it for $1000.
Picked up my 2021 trd off-road and I LOVE IT
I love my base model 01 Tacoma. It has 260k on it and runs great. In 2017 I test drive a new base model Tacoma. It felt like junk. I bought a new frontier instead. 100k later and I’ve had zero problems.
You missed a few things. For starters the ac blower fan went out completely and 2 the rear differential leaked that was a huge one for toyota my truck was out for months... nice vlog
