I started getting into picking a few months ago and tension pressure seems to be the absolute important part of picking.
@@dennispope8160 It is, in most locks. The actual lifting of pins is easy. When you get to hard locks, the hardest part becomes interpreting what you feel because the pins are designed to give you nearly no feedback or confusing feedback. But too much tension or not enough tension will still complicate it.
The unintentional comedy factor of this statement is off the charts 😂 @LockPickingLawyer can you please trademark this and put it on a T shirt?
That comment and its results were AWESOME.
And right after LPL's advice the lock opens. Listen to subject matter experts, folks.
"While you guys were getting lunch I raided your coat rack and toolbox and made a functioning improvised lockpick tool" -Proof that LPL doesn't eat human food, he simply sustains himself off the gratification of opening locks without keys.
He's on a steady diet of master locks. He just eats through those🙃

@@aserta Basically the same thing (kinda) applies to the parents in the earliest episodes of The Loud House, only their faces were always covered and everything else was visible at one point or more.

The fact that the "less optimal" handmade tool worked the first time is a true testament to the "light touch" philosophy of lockpicking. "Just enough" can't be stressed enough.

The Lock Picking Lawyer is who inspired me to pick up “picking” as a hobby. He’s brilliant….beyond brilliant.
I think he has inspired literally hundreds of thousands of people to get into picking.
You put the "____" on the wrong word should have been " hobby"
What materials or resources did you use to start off the hobby?
I got a set of picks from my dad a few years back, but LPL's videos have definitely improved my craft.

He was offering classes for security on his website last I checked, but I'm not sure if they're restricted to professionals or not.
As much as I love LPL's signature style and cadence, I always love to see him "in the field" or with a more conversational tone! Great video!

I'm so glad that Grace went off-script with her tool. It's so neat seeing how far you can stray from "the ideal design" of something and still have it work. And sometimes you find a hidden advantage along the way.
Her pick can be disguised so it doesn't appear to have any function.

It occurs to me that after thermiting the door you would have access to the bolt depending on the quality of the lock.

On the flip side, if you already are going to the trouble of preparing a package of C4, you might as well make small explosive with a focusing method and blow it open quicker an easier. It's not like thermite is a silent entry method..

i know i was like "wait what?" then them asking what is this and lpl going "i said this is the lock picking lawyer". this is a collab i thought would NEVER happen. this was a lock breaking enjoyment to see.
TKoR had to use thermite to give the LPL a slower method to break a lock.
"These are the thermite resistant gloves Bosnian Bill and I made..."
Still didn't get the door "open."
But it did break the lock, so if something was in place to turn the bolt it may have gotten them in.
@@daricktinker2439 Or the older electronic locks (which the show seemed to be using judging by the card slot and the bulk of it) where the lock had to fail to an unlocked state due to the fire codes in many buildings.

I think you're right about the prop being designed just to hold the bag. It's imitating optical card readers but it's mounted completely wrong and the top of it is nothing but a shelf.

i heard a rumor that they always hide a key on a movie set in range for emergencies. never know when you will need it in seconds. there is probably a trunk called "emergency tool box" and are trained to know which tool for each situation. in the trunk is every key for locks they use on set [just a theory not fact]
@@theldrakis On a movie set I'm sure they do, without a doubt. If you watch LPL videos though? You'll noticed that he tends to store the keys to his practice locks locked up by the lock itself.

Not really a gimmick so much as personal protection. He's mentioned in other places that he's had several companies and individuals send him death threats and other threats for exposing weaknesses in their locks.

You had me at LPL, and the fact he added his expertise to 'stuff' was wonderful!
I'd say, other than the termite being unrealistic, the handcuffs were as well. People are trained to put keyholes of handcuffs towards the body, instead of outwards, making picking near impossible because of the length of the chains which prohibits access. That and as LPL mentioned, most modern handcuffs have double locking mechanisms. By itself it really isn't that hard to pick, but does increase steps and length of the picking.
I’m incredibly jealous. This couple actually knows what LPL looks like.
I'm sure they are sworn to secrecy, under threat of... well, LPL IS a lawyer.

For the thermite scenario, I probably would have used thermate instead of thermite (higher heat output and more violent reaction), and drilled a hole into the door on top the bolt, either burning through the bolt or the wood holding it in place. People interested in recipes let me know, happy to share my info.

@@vyor8837 Aluminum is used for iron thermite. If you calculate ΔG for both reactions (using copper instead of aluminum) you will find that for copper ΔG=353.1, meaning the process is non-spontaneous, whereas for aluminum ΔG=-840.1, meaning it *is* spontaneous. Copper is also more electronegative than iron, another reason why it wouldn't work as the reducing agent. You can use copper oxide as the fuel source, and its very violent, but reaches lower temperatures.

We once got locked inside our apartment. Similarly the bolt was in, and the lock refused to open, disassembled it and still couldn't get the bolt out. Ultimately had to take the hinges off and remove the door that way to remove the deadbolt.
