    I did a wheel bearing on a 2011 prius yesterday. Wouldnt you know it, I was able to get the bolts out with my 3/8 electric ratchet, and the bearing came right off with a slight pry of my pocket screwdriver. God bless Texas.

    Did the hub bearings on my '07 Silverado when it was barely 4 years old, and I STILL had to beat them out of there with the air hammer (in the pre-Big Nasty days). Not much comes apart easy in the Northeast ... unless it's a catastrophic mechanical failure in an engine or differential!😁
    You should've done a PT Cruiser for a RAW, UNCUT vid - we'd have had multiple expletives to enjoy. I call it the "PT CURSER". What a poorly engineered pile of dung. I swear some engineer built this car because a mechanic ran off with his wife ...

      old chrysler's is what i used to build. Ah the old 64 polara with the 426 max wedge that we switched out for a 440. Threw a rod in that car. Way to much lift for the springs my old man was using. Besides his third gear didn't match the power curve and he threw the rod before the new gears came in. Heh...back in the day, lightweight wheels were made from magnesium (which is why they used to be called "mag wheels" or just "mags.") But people eventually worked out that if you drive on a flat for a while and the rim kicks up enough sparks, they catch fire - and they're _really_ hard to put out safely (they tend to explode if you put water on them - then all the pieces scattered around start a bunch more fires.) So as far as I know, it's pretty much all aluminium or some sort of aluminium alloy these days.

    All I can say is that the torque nazi’s probably aren’t as thorough as they say they are. No one “torques” every nut n bolt on their repairs. As you gain years of experience and wisdom you know what you can get away with. I call it my calibrated elbow.

    Ohh and I’ve had a laugh this morning went to a regular customer has a 2009 Honda Civic who got towed last night for a suspected broken timing belt or fuel pump failure(breakdowns guess) how he came up to that diagnosis I have no idea. Car turned over but could hear no fuel and deffo no vrrooomm sound for timing belt failure. 5mins later swapped out pump relay and car fired in to life like a champ. I have a box full of relays collected over the years so gave her the option of getting a new relay or throw old one in from my collection she chose the second option. Anyway as she is a regular customer and through the family I look after 5 of there cars didn’t charge her. Lives 1/4mile away from me and 5 mins of my time. Think sometimes a no charge is worth it in the longrun (what’s your opinion charge/no charge)

    Hey, Eric! How about showing us the torque sticks work reliably? After using the stick, you could show that a torque wrench set 10 ft lbs heavier actually turns the torqued nut. (That was a torque stick and not an extension you used on the lugs, right?)

    • @throttlebottle5906
      @throttlebottle5906 6 років тому

      even torque wrenches are not 100% accurate on the vast majority of wheels studs and rims!
      why do I state that? because they're never perfectly clean, proper thread pitch, nor proper rim/lug seat left on anything, due to others ramming them on and off at all sorts of torque levels............
      torque sticks should be "set" with one impact gun and held at the exact same air pressure for the most accurate torquing, but as mentioned above everything needs to be in "perfect
      shape" which is almost never but off assembly line

    I hear ya about rust. I live outside of Syracuse and just put a new rear bumper on my 06 Silverado. Without my trusty cordless impact wrench and penetrating oil, I don't think that job would have been doable for me. Oh and a sawzall for some of the brackets that wouldn't "cooperate". I watch some videos of people in Arizona that don't have rust and wonder how nice that must be. Gotta give her the old heat n' beat routine around here. I hate salt.

    • @bairfamilyfarm1336
      @bairfamilyfarm1336 6 років тому +1

      Sawzall? Try an angle grinder, or better yet for one hand operation, a die grinder for the stubborn bolts. I use a sawzall at work and find them hard to control with one hand holding the sawzall and the other on the workpiece.

    • @RMosher11
      @RMosher11 6 років тому

      No compressor so no die grinder. And I really need to get an angle grinder

    thats okay, i've been yelled at and also called a hack, for having an easy time with hub assemblies. the last one i did was on a 02 malibu and it just fell right off. we dont use in salt in oregon so it takes along time for things to get stuck.

    People were complaining about how loud your air compressor was?!? I have a 30 gallon direct drive, as in NO belts, that is LOUD! I usually don't notice when yours kicks on unless you complain about. Yes I hear it come on but it is an expected noise for a facility that uses air powered equipment...

    My 2000 Navigator spent its first 16 years in Long Island. My brother gave to me, I flew up and drove it back to Kentucky. Took it for an oil change and the guy said, "wow, how did it get so rusty?"
    I looked under there and if it had more rust on it, it would have also had barnacles and sea urchins! What do they put on their roads up there in NY?!?

    I'm impressed with the speed and quality of your work, years of experience I guess! One question: when you're using a 'bar to hold the hub as you tighten the center nut, don't the threads on the studs get damaged? (Obviously not or you wouldn't do it! But isn't it a risk?)

    I bought a 1995 Dodge Avenger when it had 7,500 miles or so on it, it was about a year old. It was a cool car, a cool 2 door car that was fairly sporty. It was made in Illinois in a factory owned jointly by Chrysler and Mitsubishi. I enjoyed the car and my son ended up with it and promptly totaled it out. Yeah now they are just a bottom entry level 4 door sedan that is the least sporty car you can buy. Makes you wonder why Chrysler has been in trouble for years doesn't it.

Wish me luck on my ebcm replacement due to a C2200 fault (which I saw your video too) lol.
