Question, would the m2 chip be good at emulating totk at 30 fps as well?
Can you make a test video for steam games using parallels, what kind of fps would we get on popular steam games using parallels on a m3 pro?
Will you address a way to download shader cache for Ryujinx now that Ryusak is gone? You would save a lot of ppl
Ryujinx actually has a setting for users with less RAM called “Enable Texture Recompression” which will compress the Textures before storing them in RAM. This will reduce RAM usage at the cost of higher CPU usage, however to my knowledge Ryujinx doesnt use all of the CPU cores anyway so this shouldnt reduce Performance much / it would increase performance if RAM is the bottleneck
I really like trying to emulate all kinds of systems on my Mac so please more Videos like this (maybe about ScummVM and/or DosBox-x)

Always love your emulation videos! Watching your videos is one big reason why I chose to get a MacBook. I have the M1 Pro and it does everything I need right now. However, I love seeing all the advancements that have come with the m3 chipset.
im from pc telling you guys to go and have a wonderful day wherever you guys are
Considering that emulation relies on the CPU not the GPU it's no surprise that Apple Silicon macs are great for emulation. Combine that with the high resolution screen you can add in a super high quality CRT filter for 5th gen and older games
As another alternative, Retroarch is still being developed for macOS. It would be interesting to see a video catching up on the current state of Retroarch, showing how well it handles emulation, and checking in on how up to date its cores are compared to other emulation hosts.

bro is there any video turorial on downloading 3DS Emulator for iMac? THanks
It's been a few years since I last played with emulation, but is something like RetroArch to be recommended? Or are there downsides compared to using it on Windows?
Great video man! Congrats! Can you help me with your ryujinx settings to play TOTK? I have a m2 pro 19 gpu and my game keep stuck at 20 fps, I dint find any mod that help me to get 30 fps :(
Looking like switch emulation is getting better and may be the only way to play new Doom titles on a’ apple silicon Mac. Wild.
Is it worth using the 8GB ram model or upgrading to the 16GB ram?
How far away are we to having Vulcan and Proton fully working with Apple Silicon on Asahi Linux?
Did you play all those emulators with the dual sense?
I purchased MK1 on Steam because Crossover showed it as "excellent", however after installing it, turn out it runs like crap, even in lowest settings, am I missing something here? I've tried all settings...
Interesting that M3 base gets same performance as M3 max 40 core in cemu botw. I wonder if it just hits a cpu bottleneck that just doesn't care how many gpu cores there are. I actually get better performance with switch version of botw
2024 and Apple is still selling Professional laptops with 8 GB of RAM...
I tried to do Nintendo Switch emulation on the M2 15 inch but when i search games it takes me to fake pages and scam downloads either they can’t be downloaded anymore or pretty much got rid of the roms for the Nintendo switch games so i deleted it and was very useless
Nintendo lawyers about to dropkick UA-cam servers
On the OpenEMU can you have it full screen? I've always been a Windows guy with various desktops and laptops over the years. I'm thinking about getting myself a Macbook Pro with an M3 Pro processor and want to connect it to my 65" 4k TV via the Macbook's HDMI output but i'm wanting to know if it's capable of running full screen. Some emulators can only be windowed meaning it can't take up the whole screen.
Google says yes. I’ve had a MacBook Pro for the last ten years and the green bubble at the top left of a window takes pretty much everything full screen
Do you know how to get vibration working on AetherSX2 and/or DuckStation??

Hello Ryujinx always crashes on my Macbook Air M2 when i play Zelda, BotW at the start and Totk at the first shrine.

it still is necessary, yeah. but JIT was updated so it runs better than it did now

Good work! You just forgot to say that the playlist you referenced is on your other channel, Andrew Tsai's Tips.
Hi have you tested grand blue fantasy relink on mac if not can you do?
Can I get the same performance with a Mac mini M2?
Please please show what TOTK looks like on a powerful M3 Max chip. I want to know if it's worth upgrading from my M1 Mac mini which can currently achieve roughly the same performance as the M3 base chip you showed here.
I tried an M3 Max with 30-core GPU last month for this purpose since no one else was benchmarking it. It does very well in the towns, averaging 30-40fps, but can't quite reach 60 anywhere, sticking to around 45-50 in the open world. Seemed a bit GPU bottlenecked so I imagine the 40 core GPU would do much better at 1080p/1440p.
What I wanted to see was how it worked for 4k, which was not super well. 25-35 fps across the board, maybe 40 if you were lucky. But given that even with perfect GPU performance scaling from 30-40 cores it wouldn't touch 60 at 4k, I decided not to bother trying the higher end one out.
@@nathanross4036man can you tell me about the settings to reach 30 fps in TOTK? I have a m2 pro with 19 gpu but it keep stuck at 20 fps, and the gpu is not even close to 100% use
@@CaioFreitas1987 You need to find a 60fps mod like Ultracam
@@nathanross4036 I wonder if this is a result of under-optimisation by Ryujinx. I just can't fathom how a much more powerful machine than my M1 Mac mini with only 8 GPU cores could only achieve what seems like modest gains at 1080p/1440p with nearly 4x the GPU cores that are 2 generations ahead on Apple Silicon.
@@GRandoTube Yeah, I found it odd as well. Wouldn't be surprised if it was a Ryujinx limitation, that emulator has always seemed to have more overhead than Yuzu. Wish Yuzu was on Mac.
Has anybody tried on M3 Air for long sessions ? I’m kind of afraid of the eventual heat…
Hey tutorial on how to make RPCS3 work? It keeps crashing on me even in launching the PS3 menu
Like he said you’ll have to check the wiki for each game to get it to work (if at all). From a compatibility standpoint it is probably the worst (worst doesn’t mean bad just in realtion to the other Emulators, RPCS3 is still an incredible piece of software) Emulator on this list.
Have you updated macOS

Does god of war ascension work with the ps3 emu for m3?
What about running a M2 Pro Mac with 16 gigs would that work for all of this
Sure why shouldn't it lil
I mean... It was "bombastic" on the base Air M1...
OpenEmu has a great UI, but it's disappointing that it doesn't offer the option to run at higher internal resolutions for most platforms.
You might be able to specify a config for each of the cores, potentially by making a shell script to launch the core with certain flags (if OpenEmu doesn't give you an interface to do that itself). Some of them probably do allow higher resolution.
I haven't tried it myself, but maybe someone can try and weigh in :)
How big is the difference in emulation performance between M1 max and basic m3?
Quite a big jump, x4 the GPU cores.
@@Andytizer 4x increase in graphics in a simple m3? Wow, I thought the MacBook pro M1 max would be a good deal for its money.
@@Andrasturiexplore The other way around, M1 Max will perform much better than M3.

What GPU settings for the Switch emulator are perfect for the M3 Max?
Depends on your Display-size ideally its as close to your native screen-resolution as possible so probalby 2x in docked mode. For Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering you can just set it to the max (my M1 Max can handle that in most games). For the Scaling filter it really depends what Look you like or what game you play.

theres no way to legally purchase it anymore so you'll have to find roms for it
Is aethersx2 really better than pcsx2? The last time I used it gave me issues in Shadow of the Colossus.
Depends on the game. In the games I personally play - it had less visual glitches (like lines on sprites / textures when upscaling) and better performance. But that was back when pcsx2 didn't have metal renderer. The sad thing about the aethersx2 is that people started harassing the dev and he stopped working on it, so right now it's an abandonware.
I do still use it and works fine in my opinion.
@@krystiano.610 a lot of progress has been made since then. But yeah I know what happened with the dev. But I am not sure if he really received death threats as there was some speculation about the situation, and some people doubt it.
So ps3 emulation is finally playable ?
Would love to get Last of Us working in any form on the Mac. RPCS3 runs it at about 3fps with all effects turned off and resolution lowered to potato

What about playing games in low-power modes? Low-power mode can double battery life when playing games
it works great in terms of performance. you didn't notice any issues and get lower temperatures and battery life. suddenly emulation process hits hardware bottleneck earlier than you can reach full potential of it. so low power battery mode doesn't impact at fps (maybe frame time a little bit). at least on m2 pro
Low end emulators like 6th gen and older should be perfectly fine. I could see issues with PS3 due to how much CPU power it needs
What about M4?

Rogue squadron looks amazing. I've got a m2 max 32gb and plays like garbage. Do you know how you got it working so well?
I played Rogue Squadron at 1080p on my pre-m1 iPad Pro from 4 years ago flawlessly, so there must be a specific setting that you need to check! It should run just fine
That’s definitely a problem with your settings. Check your graphics backend, shader settings and internal resolution. If none of that is helping try to reset all the settings to the defaults and go from there

One thing people always failed to mention about Wii emulation on the map, newer versions of macOS won’t let you pair a Wii Remote. It’s very annoying. Comes down to Apple requiring a certain level of security that the Wii Remote simply did not support. As far as I’m aware no one has figured out a way around this.

Imagine how good games can be on the Mac if only Apple would make it a priority. It certainly has the money to make it happen.
I guess macs are game machines 🎉🎉🎉

Just another reason Nintendo should just start doing PC/Mac ports already like Sony does. Not even asking for day in date, just something. They can't win against their futile war against emulators so might as well just start doing official releases so they can make some extra revenue and decentivize emulation
The main reason why the Switch was emulated so early was because the switch is pretty weak hardware wise. iPhone X is also faster than it in both CPU and GPU
@@crestofhonor2349 no it’s not really just the hardware, for example the Switch uses a lot of texture formats which no x86 platform natively supports and that causes a whole lot of problems even for powerful hardware. The main reason why the switch was emulated so fast was because the Tegra X1 (the chip inside the Switch) had already known vulnerabilities and thus the reverse engineering started almost immediately
The fact that it was Nintendo’s next “big” console and the fact that they don’t do ports (as outlined in the main comment) unlike most games for Xbox and PS4 meant that there is also a way bigger demand for it.
The base model M3, really? I thought it's already well established that this version is fairly useless for any serious task because of its subpar RAM…it seems it can run older games, but this lousy RAM surely makes it a pain for newer games, emulated or not.
He says at the end that it struggles with some switch games because of the limited ram. So yes, if you want to do any gaming on Macs, best to get at least 16GB of ram, and more if you can.
why are we questioning if a 2023/2024 machine can run emulators for devices built 20+ years ago?
Dudes running switch games my trolly friend
Emulation itself is the process of translating one to another and the emulation process can be very CPU intensive. It is not simply a case of just needing the same level of CPU, GPU and RAM as the emulated platform
