    Honestly the 8GB of ram is going to be a problem with this machine in a lot more than just games; especially if you plan on keeping it more than 1 year. I had a M1 Mac Mini with the 16GB ram upgrade and couldn't imagine not having the extra ram.

    Hi Andy. Any reason you don't test at 1280x800 resolution for lower-spec'd machines? It's a pixel-perfect option on the 13" Air and will push far fewer pixels. (Though I'm aware RE Village doesn't go lower than 1080p, or allow a 16 : 10 aspect ratio, which I was annoyed to learn after buying it.)

    • @SterkeYerke5555
      @SterkeYerke5555 6 місяців тому +1

      Afaik MacOS doesn't support integer scaling, in which case you're never getting pixel-perfect scaling even if it would theoretically fit the screen. 1920x1200 (or 1080p in 16:9 games) will still look better with any other kind of scaling, so you might as well use that if you've got the performance. Obviously you might still be better off using 1280x800 for more demanding games

    • @Or1s
      @Or1s 3 місяці тому

      Technically... All this games run with scaling (fsr etc), so no one run in native 1080p. 1080p mode in performance mode fsr - upscaled from native 960x540.

      8GB in a Macbook Pro that cost $1600 is definitely a bummer. However, it is not nearly as bad as you make it sound like. In my Macbook Air M1 base model, I do web development. I have few docker containers running, 3-4 figma pages, clickup pages, chat gpt, facebook and other things open. VS code open, PG admin 4 open, slack open, notes open, the development server running. And I rarely see any slow down. Though, I have 4 gigs of memory in swap, but the machine is still very snappy.

    • @haysoos123
      @haysoos123 6 місяців тому

      CXPatcher works very well with crossover. However, don't try to get support from CodeWeavers with a patched crossover; it muddies the water for them a lot and they can't help you with an unsupported version. This is why you won't read that RE2R and RE3R work on their forums. Those games do work very well with patched crossover, though.

    16GB is a no brainer to me. Question is if I should go for M3 (I'd most preferably wait for M3 Air with 16GB somewhere in the next year) or just buy some lightly used/refurbished M1 Pro... 🤔 I want good battery, some basic gaming capabilities (I want to try Cyberpunk but I'm definitely not a gamer) and I'm not willing to spend 1800$ for a machine (cause in EU it's over 2200€ 🤦🏻‍♂). Any advice will be much appreciated 😇

      If you are not gonna use the Ray Tracing features that were introduced in M3, you will be fine with M1 Pro. But, why would you want to play games on a Mac? I am not sure about gaming. If you want to play games and want a lightweight 14 inch very capable machine, please give Hp Pavilion Plus 14 (Ryzen 7 2023 model) a try. That machine is an absolute beast for the price. It has an option for an OLED panel as well. It can handle gaming very well at the level you are planning to do. Very good battery life as well, maybe not Mac level, but yet fairly ok.

    • @SToad
      @SToad 6 місяців тому +1

      If you absolutely need to have macOS, the M1 Pro is still a very good machine, if you can find a good price on used/refurbished. Otherwise a gaming laptop will be cheaper and better, for gaming. Or tbh a combo of a LCD steamdeck with any laptop for whatever purpose (not gaming) that you have. The steamdeck runs games better than the M3 in most instances, maybe leaving aside the native ports. I test games on my M2 Pro (base 16" model) but it's such a chore and a shoddy process, and this won't change much. At some point I got sick of installing crossover patches and reinstalling bottles and all that jazz.
      Also if you just want portable gaming and maybe some productivity, a Rog Ally or Lenovo Go are good options, with a portable monitor. The Arzoopa (?) ones on Amazon do discounts all the time and their 144Hz one gets good reviews all the time.

    i’m truly not interested in seeing gaming on any computer with just 8GB RAM, the system on idle with no applications open requires about 5GB of RAM.
    I honestly don’t think apple intends for anyone to buy the 8GB model or for it to be their standard of performance. I think it’s purely there so apple can say it starts at a lower price
    you can skip making videos on 8GB RAM models and I would not miss them, ever

And best settings even in god of war with nvidia dlss i get about 60-80 fps on ultra which is the highest setting

    Surprise, the M3 isn't a magic machine that uses RAM at half the rate of other PCs. If you do any real work or games you need a minimum of 16GB. Do any rendering or use After Effects 32GB is the sweet spot. That's how I configures my M1 Pro, well that and 1TB of storage. This is 2023, not 2013.

    RIP SSD chips! every time you use lots of swap, your SSD slowly dies. Get as much RAM as you can afford - and while you're at it, bigger SSD = longer life. I'd be curious to see framerate comparisons of 8GB vs. 24GB. I've got an M3 Max 36GB on order - longevity is key.
