    I know this video is kinda old but... it has been a life changer.... I was drinking a lot and saw my blood glucose decrease while drinking but very erratic (on the high side) day to day... while drinking I would see waking glucose at 110 - 130... I quit drinking for a only a few days and saw my glucose stabilize with waking glucose in the 80's... Thanks!!

    Hi: I have worn a CGM for quite a while and have done quite a bit of experimentation accompanied by labs. I am a senior that is very active and heavily muscled, I keep a body fat of 12-13%. In this state I have to fight to keep my fasting morning sugars under 5. If I take off the CGM a few weeks they creep up towards 6. Alcohol makes this all go away. One drink for an hour or so, 3 drinks at least overnight, and usually for about 24 hrs. About a 25% reduction. This is a perverse incentive because simply stated ethanol is a human tissue toxin with no safe dose. In one experiment on top of my diet I was sure to have a cup of heavy whipping cream and a big ribeye every night, plus well over the recommended ethanol of 21 drinks per week. I did that for one month. Otherwise a high nutrient density very low carb diet. Weight training and aerobic exercise. My labs were quite interesting. Trigs 0.5, HDL 2.5 , HbA1c 5,2, GGT low normal, hsCRP below detection limits. I was fully expecting the liver panel to be elevated to add yet another reason to not drink any alcohol.
    If I have 4 drinks my glucose drops to 2-3 for many hours where I am completely asymptomatic. I assume because I am ketotic and managing on BHB. Not quite as dramatic as Cahills experiments dropping sugar to under 1 using insulin, but the same unexpected lack of symptoms. Some interesting N of 1 commentary to add context to your comments.
    I am not recommending anyone repeat these foolish experiments, and of course keep ethanol below recommended guidelines.

    I'm 68, and two years on a paleo low carb diet and activity. Down 30 lbs and 8+🍻 every night. I'm soooo lucky. 😮

    So, this means we should be consuming more alcohol just to lower our glucose levels! (j/k) But seriously, what if you are dealing with a condition where the lower the better? Cancer? Epilepsy? I think the side effects of this alcohol consumption probably rule it out.. but I wouldn't say there couldn't be a place for it [edit: at the same time, we should be careful when we think we are smarter than our bodies. using alcohol this way is like a drug, and there are better more natural ways]

    Is there such a thing as hyperglucagonimia?

    • @LevelsHealth
      @LevelsHealth  2 роки тому

      Sure! Hyperglucagonemia is a state of excess glucagon secretion. In healthy individuals, insulin has a suppressive effect on alpha-cell function and on glucagon secretion. The most common cause of hyperglucagonemia is an absence or deficiency of the restraining influence of insulin on glucagon production. www.sciencedirect.com/topics/medicine-and-dentistry/hyperglucagonemia

    Alcohol definitely drops my blood glucose from my average 94 to 70.
