Last December 2021, my A1C was at 12! This was my starting point and also I was a type ll diabetic on insulin. I started my journey at that point. My blood sugar went up over 330! I watched this carefully ready to use the insulin if I kept going up. My baseline BS was in the high 200’s like 270-290! I kept going with the Keto diet and cut out all grains and any food that was high in carbs. My regular doctor was alarmed and my endocrinologist fired me if I wasn’t going to take any insulin. I was steadfast with the Keto, mostly meat and eggs with some cooked greens. My A1C has steadily lowered every time I get my A1C checked. I have brought down my A1C to under 10 at last check, and my base BS is now around 200! I just have to be persistent and not give up. I have been a diabetic for more than 20 years, so it looks like i will eventually get there. I just want to give encouragement to those that have started on their journey to health. I also do the two meals a day and do an 18 hour intermittent fasting everyday. Good luck and persevere.
Hi, I had same case. I was on insulin and sugar reading stuck around 200. I recommend doing 48 hour fast. Once a week in 0 carb diet. My reading once 400 is now at 120 130. Max.
@@DeepakJindal07 Dear Deepak…I am so glad for you and would love to hear … how long it took and if you are T2D and still take insuline.. are those readings related to fasting Glucose and what do you mean by 0 carbs? Carnivore? You would help me and certainly also others to understand and cope better with their Journey 🙏😊
I didn't start keto until after watching perhaps dozens of Dr Berry's videos on the subject, reading up on the links he provides and studying the science through various sources for myself. It all made perfect sense and the best part -- it's not a starvation diet. About 10 weeks in and I've lost 32 pounds effortlessly just following the simple guidelines. At 70 years old, I've never felt better or more energetic... somebody stop me! My only regret is I didn't learn about keto sooner.
My son asks me if I’m excited to eat old favorites like cheezits or cookies on a vacation and I honestly answer no. I don’t miss food and I don’t crave anything. Food is back in its place. Also I get to eat bacon - love this diet. Grew up on the low fat nonsense diet after my dad had a quad bypass. The “doctors” finished him off with their death pills. So to eat foods I’ve always loved is amazing.
I've been doing it 3 years come New Year's, am on it for life! I can't believe the reversals it's done in my body, never felt better! And I'm 70 too, keep going, it's so worth it!
What can raise blood sugar: Infection Injury Inflamation Mental stress elevating cortisol & adrenaline Not getting quality sleep High morning blood sugar Artificial sweeteners Coffee for some Mineral deficiencies Intense workouts Prolonged fasting Medications
@@thakraken6995 No, but make sure they are pure, no hidden fillers, that could raise blood sugar. These do raise blood sugar Sucralose Maltitol There might be more that do. I just stick to the few I know don’t.
Ty for the great info. My fasting blood sugar is always about 123 (after 24 hr fast, and in the morning) ketone level. 6 losing about 10-12 lbs a week. When I do eat now it will drop to about 85 blood sugar level . 6'6" tall and currently 343 lbs, started out at 495lbs. Because of people like you I'm feeling better and accelerating my weight loss now thru keto/ fasting. Type 2 GONE!!! A1C 5.0 😊
@meofcourse3259 yeah you’re good!! Just cause you get a high sugar, well I’m speaking as a carnivore. Blood sugar levels might go up, here’s the thing though, it’s being GLYCATED/GLYCATION, meaning that the glucose levels are ok since it’s not being converted and being added to all your organs and shit. I freaked out when it happened to me. Keto crap, I don’t trust a bunch of the “keto” “friendly “ they’re carbs no matter what. Put down the poison!! Carbs got you where you were/are. If you had Mercury poisoning would you just cut back the mercury? Hell no! It would be like gotta stop and never ingesting that poison ever again!
@@cates_keto my sugars still read high sometimes which is why I never expected my A1C to be good, yet it was! Not sure what’s up with that but I am happy and feel good. That’s enough for me now
I’ve been a diabetic for at least 10 years. My blood sugar was regularly between 150 and 300. Had an A1c of at least nine. About three weeks ago I started the carnivore diet. Within three days my blood sugar started coming down and for the last three weeks my blood sugar has been regularly between 85 and 99. That is an excellent feeling! Before I watched this video, however I was quite nervous because every morning at around 830 till about 1030. My blood sugar would consistently raise to approximately 140. I was not eating any carbs or anything that I should not eat. I was eating only between 2 PM and 6 PM every day. This video really set my mind at ease.
It will always be higher in the morning. Even if you eat only meat, or fast for days, it will raise in the AM. It's natural as long as it comes down at some point
Don’t lower carb intake! I stopped all carb intake. Why lower it? Need it? Want it? There’s zero essential carbohydrates at all! Carbs are what got us into T2D so the way I look at it is that if I don’t want to be diabetic ever again then no carbs ever again! It’s really that simple. And I showed at three ER with a sugar so high my meter only said “HIGH” I don’t remember but it was over 500 or over 600!! I started carnivore on January 8th got bloodwork on February 22nd and at that point my A1C-5.5 non diabetic!! No more insulin. I pretty much just eat eggs and ground beef and butter. That’s it, oh bacon 1 pack a month. If I can do it anyone can! Stay safe
Your body does that automatically it’s called the dawn event or something like that. It’s done because you should be getting up and going. I was like WTF is going on?! Research said it’s normal. If you average sugar is around 200 you won’t lower A1C to a normal. Let me guess, you doctor said he’d be happy if you lower it to or below 200? Mine did! Stay safe
As of last week, vitamin D is 53, up from 32. Chol is 223. Tri is 139. LDL is 149. HDL is 46. Glucose is 88, down from usual 105-110. HcA 1C is 5.4, down from 6.3. I’ve lost 40 pounds in five months. I went from 800+ calories of booze a day down to having totally quit booze all together (again). Walking 3-6 miles five times a week. I’m reading labels looking for sugar now. Still a little ways to go but, I honestly feel like a brand new man. Thank you for this channel Dr. Berry!!!
I've been doing keto for years and I've come to the conclusion on my own that where you are in your journey matters. I've never heard anyone actually say it, though. So, this is validating. I get so mad when people claim that you can turn it all around in a week or two. Not in my experience. Thank you for sharing real truth!!
Sure wish I had this information a year ago. I was experiencing high blood sugar while off Insulin. I was doing intermittenting fasting and keto. Even after several weeks. I read all I could from Dr Fung and your self. I lost 57lbs while on keto for six months. I experienced many sugar lows. I lowered my Insulin. My goal is reversal of type two diabetes and high blood pressure. I will renew keto and intermittenting fasting now with more confidence in ketogenic way of life. I just butchered a bull that got a broken leg while fighting another bull.
This. I've always had good numbers, so I never looked. 10 years later out of curiosity I looked. I was shocked to find I was around 100. 3 months of strict keto and my numbers are usually 80s or low 90s. So annoying when people act like it took a week.
The point is if you're diabetic taking poisonous insuline for 20 years you will take years to revert that. Most people get scared buy 110mg/dL so indeed they revert it in weeks.
Last night dinner put with friends. Had meat all the way, but got a yogurt desert. This morning blood sugar 100 and ketones 0.4. At 14.00, before eating my fist meal, blood sugar 97, ketones 0.7 ....after 1,5 hours from my lunch (steak, salt and water), blood sugar 80. 😊😊 A big thanks from Italy, Doc!
Your channel has been gold to me. I am a type II diabetic since 1999 and my doctors have never told me anything about this. I feel like I have been cheated. Thanks for your help.
Cheated is a light expression. I was steaming with my Dr. Until I realized it was sheer ignorance! Not bad faith. Either case I was furious. To be paying dearly with my own life for his ignorance. Even now a couple of years after I moved to Keto. He continue the same "speech". More pills, more medicines. This last time (2 weeks ago) he tried 3 times!!! To set me on Ozempic! I guess the med sales rep. give him a cut... Answer was 3x flat NO.
Dr. Berry, I am a long time subscriber, RN of 51 years and successful insulin resistant, metabolic disorder, HTN recovered. But, getting discouraged because of weight gain and high blood glucose readings. Food sensitivities (and my indulgence therein) have played a large part but also my prescription meds, 2 of which I was taking; Metoprolol and Niacin. After listening to your segment on meds that cause/exacerbate IR, I immediately stopped both. 2 weeks later, my glucose and blood pressure numbers are normal. Lower the insulin levels and blood pressure will follow, for me at least. Thank you for being the “rogue” doctor I first thought you to be. I think you saved my life.
Thanks again Doc. I have been following your recommendations for 7 weeks, lost 18 pounds. Yesterday I had steak and eggs for breakfast, no lunch or snacks, not hungry, went on a vigorous hike for an hour after work and then a nice dinner. Plenty of energy. Oh by the way, I'm 61 .😊
Thank you for this information. I was very discouraged with a fasting glucose of 119-136 . I have been under extreme stress lately and had no idea that would affect my blood sugar readings. I look forward to all of your UA-cam videos and information. You are a blessing to all people looking to have better health. My Mother basically lives in a wheel chair now I believe it's from bad food choices all her life. My mother in law at age 75 just moved in with my husband and I because she has dementia. I hope to from here on out make wise decisions with food. I now eat to live, not live to eat! Thank you again.
Hi Doctor Berry. I am from Armenia. I have been watching your videos for over 2 years and it changed my life. I owe you a lot. You have become only doctor that I trust 100%. Thank you man. God bless you!!!!
Dr. Berry,I’ve been watching for a few years and I must thank you for everything that I have learned, especially from your book. Definitely life changing! For me personally though, this is one of your best. I am a retired painter of 50 years, the last 20 being a working contractor. I actually was forced to go out on disability due to destroying my body with overwork and painkillers due to my chosen field of endeavor. And I had a heart attack in 2011. Well, I went through ten surgeries to repair the damage. From numerous hand surgeries to three shoulder surgeries to ACDF not to mention the dozen or so injections in my back for pain. Next I went cold turkey off of the pain meds and when I found out how good I felt after that I weaned myself off of everything else which included metformin, statins, antidepressants, and some I can’t think of. Then I felt great! That’s about the time I began watching your videos I have been trying for 5 years to learn how to relax
I had recently surgery ... a D&C and polyp removal for post menopausal bleeding. I was told to eat nothing after midnight the night before and to arrive at the hospital the next day at 1pm to check in. I didn't sleep well that night for obvious reasons ... I don't know anyone who sleeps well the night before surgery. Well I've been ketovior for several months now, so the extended fasting before my scheduled surgery didn't bother me. I did miss my morning cup of Joe though, but whatever. Anyway, I remember waking up, sort of, in the recovery area and they were checking my blood glucose (I don't have a diagnosis of diabetes). Later on I found out that my blood sugar reading for that moment was 106. I was puzzled by that because the reading was taken at about 5pm and I hadn't eaten anything since 10pm the previous evening. Of course I was receiving IV fluids before, during, and after the procedure and I assume that had some glucose in it. But it bothered me that essentially my fasting glucose was 106. Thank you for this video, it explained a lot. I hadn't considered my lack of sleep the night before or the mental stress of having surgery and wondering if I had uterine cancer as a contributing factor for the higher glucose number. FYI: NO Cancer or pre-cancer on the pathology report!!!
Thank you for this!!! I’ve been carnivore for almost a year and sometimes my fasting blood glucose is between 110-120. Knowing that all these other things can cause higher blood sugar helps calm some anxiety I’ve been having about this! 🙏🏼❤
I just had a personal epiphany. I have achintosis signs on my body and have had it for several years but I didn't know what it was. I know now and I'm going to begin a low to very low carb diet for the rest of my life. I'm 74 but plan on being around for a long time. Thank you Dr. Berry, your you tube teachings is literally saving peoples' lives.
Thank you for all your videos, i am 33 when i found out i was diabetic my A1C was 7.8 my dr wanted to put me on medication, however i didn't want to go the same route my other family members were on, i found your videos, my A1C went down to 7.3 and i lost 10 pounds the first 3 months, i just went to see a diabetic dietitian they told me i lost 11 more pounds!! my husband and i just moved from a very stressful place my blood sugar was high 145 now since i am in the new place it is getting better! I am excited for all the good changes to come
I am 59 years old my A1c was 6.4 after 3 weeks in keto down to 5.7 and all my numbers were normal. I am a living witness keto and Dr Berry 's diet really works. Thanks Doc for sharing all these information. We welcome bacon strips to our family. It was forbidden and off limits for years. Now we are enjoying it.
Loved your video. I now fully understand my symptoms. I have given up sugar completely now for 10 years+. It is stress as the neighbours dogs keep me awake most nights. Planning to move house. I know I eat a very healthy diet but do have these early morning high blood sugar blues. Thank you for your advice....you have raised my spirits and in future will never worry much....my dad lived to be 101. Never bothered about anything, consumed everything he liked, bacon & egg was his favourite & had no sickness at all. Passed away in his sleep of natural causes. He never knew what stress was as everything that happened in life was A minor matter.
My blood sugar in the morning is sometimes 114. I’ve been Carnivore one year -Keto two years prior . It has always freaked me out my morning blood sugar. I went and got an independent A1c test it had gone down to 5.6 from 5.9. I have once again reached that Zen moment in my carnivore journey. I will try not to worry about my blood sugar. I’m 5’1 currently 120 pounds. Are used to be 115 pounds. I cannot seem to lose that weight. I decided this is where my body wants me to be right now. I am OK with that. Thank you Neisha and Doctor Barry for changing my life no longer going to the doctor several times a year- just once!!!! She calls me a freak of nature 🤣
Muscle weighs more than body fat. How your clothes fit and Height to waist ratio are better markers than the scale. A DEXA scan will show % of body fat, and where it is located in the body.
When do you have your last meal and how big is it? Does the time vary? Does the level go down during the day? 5'1 and 120 pound is in a very healthy ratio. I think your body likes it :)
Statins raise your blood sugar overnight if you take at night. Mine raised it ~10 points. Also causes depression. Bet your doc stuck you on statins like mine. They think they are great and prescribe to everyone.
You are awesome!! Thank you so much for your lovely gifts of knowledge. When I saw my tests showed I had a fatty liver I flipped! My doctor said I was "pre-diabetic" so " ...you dont have to worry because you arent diabetic YET", I said that's like being a little pregnant! I said I had to immediately change my life, start fasting and dump the stress. I started educating myself by listening to you, Dr. Lustig, etc.. I told my doctor I wanted a monitor, he had never written a prescription for one. I did not want to become obsessed so I only committed to wear one for a month. For people who do not sleep well, this is a wake up call!! I realized my blood suger was going up and down like crazy in the night after eating late. No wonder I would wake up multiple times. A bad night's sleep meant my blood suger would be all over the place the next day too. I had to give up one of my favorite foods when I was very surprised to see how quickly I reacted to the rice in sushi ( I didnt know sugar is added to the rice). I super reacted to a simple baked yam. I had to completely stop milk and went to using straight raw cream in my coffee. I thought my instant coffee was just coffee till my sugers went up too high, I READ THE LABEL and my instant coffee had suger in it! Now I use a simple coffee French press. I dont trust anything anymore. My family couldnt believe it when I slammed the brakes and refused to touch rice, potatoes, fruits, milk, cereals, tortillas, bread, wine etc. 3 months have gone by and though I am eating a very generous one meal a day of fatty free range meats and low carb veges, butter, cream, fatty cheeses etc I've not been hungary and have lost 14 lbs without trying. Most of all I have become much more active and sleep much better. My very sceptical sister in law announced today she is " thinking" about making the change to Keto. Imagine that!
My doctor won't prescribe me a CGM and when I went to CVS to try and buy one without her, they wouldn't sell it to me w/out a prescription. Grr! If more of us had these gadgets and understood the underlying physiology of it all, we could stop the trouble BEFORE it starts.
This video explains why my A1C went from 5.7 to 6.1 while maintaining my LCHF way of eating. I have had a number of very high stress issues come up all at the same time. This has caused increased frequency of insomnia, increase in my pain levels due to my rheumatoid arthritis, & increased in levels of inflammatory markers. This increase in A1C was very worrisome until you explained the WHY. Now I am confident that my A1C should improve again as my issues are addressed and the stress levels improve. THANK YOU DR BERRY!!!!!
Thank you so much for this. I have been strictly carnivore and lately ketovore, but getting very upset when my blood glucose levels go up for what seemed to be no reason. I started carnivore 18 months ago, but working out, sleeping poorly, getting overheated, and stressed still sends my CGM up. I am relieved to learn these reasons that you talked about. Thank you.
When they say insulin resistant, maybe they should call it insulin super sensitivity. lol Me too. Stress, higher BS. Feel bad, higher bs. Pull a muscle, higher bs. I am super sensitive and still working at getting it under control. Fasting bs now is 130, down from 220 a month ago. A1c was 10, down from 12 the year prior. I will see in 2 months what 3 months of Carnivore does for me. I am at almost 0 carbs. Felt bad today and fasting bs went to 158 and BP was higher too. Yeah I am a fricken canary. BUT..I am learning to listen to my body. And that is a gift.
Thank you Dr Berry! I started my low carb lifestyle about 8 months ago and on the first 3 months, I let go of about 15 pounds. I got down to 129#(last time I was this weight was 45 years ago!) I’m 5’6 now going between 138-130 pounds. I was close to becoming diabetic range with my A1c (6) to 5.4. Still aiming for lower. Thanks to Dr Ekberg and now, you, for your dedication to help us all. Greatly appreciated! 🙏🏼
OMG, that is what is happening to me. My glucose readings several hours after I get up with NO FOOD, my sugars are high- around 130-140. Cup of coffee for breakfast until lunch. Two hours after lunch my sugars go DOWN, around 95. I know I am on some diabetic meds and they may make my glucose rise a bit, but erratic readings in the morning. I almost hate testing in the morning. The Keto-Carnivore diet satiates my cravings, so I can last much longer between meals. Thank you Dr. Berry!
This explains so much!!!! I'm being thrown into fight or flight mode due to chronic vertigo...head trauma. Just cranks up my stress massively. I told them that this was messing up my levels because of the panic (all the glucose that's dumped to try to get my muscles ready to run like hell). The Drs here look at me like I've grown a third head when I say things, but you describe what's happening to me.
OMG! Me too! Vestibular disorder. People, even doctors, don’t understand. It’s getting hit with constant jolts of adrenaline. I had a virus in my head and meningitis. It left me seriously damaged. I slept for almost two years, around the clock. In a way, that was better than trying to make a new life. By 3:00 in the afternoon I’m so stressed and messed up that I can’t think or speak. I have to go to my room and stay motionless in the dark and quiet. It’s devastating. God bless you. I wish you well.
@@Mrs.TJTaylor oh honey I'm so sorry for you. I totally understand your life. It took a long time before they accepted that there was a physiological problem, despite the glowing MRIs & hideous nystagmus. I spent the first three months sitting in a corner literally holding on for dear life. Because I wasn't presenting the way they expected I was labeled a difficult patient. One told me I had 'whiny white woman disease.' He paid heavily with the ethics board. I hope you find peace and I hope you find someone to help you. It's really hard to face the world when it's already spinning before you can open your eyes in the morning. Blessings to you dear. I would love to talk to you more, off post. We may be able to help one another.
I had a similar circumstance years back, don’t even like to talk about it as it brings back some PTSD. It’s a viscous cycle until the vertigo is eventually resolved. I will say with that, peri menopause, and back pain included, my adrenals took a real hit. I found a doctor who helped address each issue individually, there are supplements to help keep ones adrenals balanced and now I only take l-theanine for my “fight or flight” issues. If you can afford it, maybe go outside the traditional medical system and find an integrative or functional medicine doctor. Good luck🙏
Fight or flight mode due to low vitamin d , magnesium. Low vitamin d causes adrenal insufficiency , which leads to hypoglycemia , which also cause vertigo.
@@madhu_1489 Very true for most people with Vertigo! I'm editing to say that I'm now Vertigo FREE since 1 year and 2 months and am so happy; my body was lacking vitamins and minerals.
Thank you Dr. Berry for putting my mind at ease with this issue. I see this effect in the morning especially on the day I do OMAD. I had reversed my type 2 diabetes in the course of 9 months (lost 60lbs), thanks to you and a few other youtubers on Ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting. Once again I thank you for your teaching for people like me to better our health for a happy life.
Before keto"vore" i never cared about anything related to food/health. Now im reading ingredients, learning what big food/pharma agendas are. Paying attention to macro ratios. Been losing fat for over a year now. GO HEALTH COMMUNITY!
Very informative video that helps me understand my current fasting blood glucose levels. Been super low carb, meat based, zero UPF, clean foods for a few years. In great shape, very athletic. Never been prediabetic before or any other risk factors. This week my fasting blood glucose has been 5.5-6.2mmol/L. Had me worried that I'm becoming prediabetic due to some anomaly. Last week however, I strained both my knees weight lifting which are now incredibly inflamed and painful. Thanks to this video I now know that this may explain my elevated fasting blood glucose, especially in the morning before moving around a little. I will continue to monitor as the knees heal.
On carnivore and my glucose has been testing 112 when it was never over 80 for years. I am slowly feeling better on carnivore after almost 6 months. I have had chronic illness for many years so it's nice finally seeing some improvements.
I so needed this today. My endocrine system is borked after Cushing's Disease and then chronic inflammation and myasthenia gravis. It's my second week as ketovore and I'm surfing a straight line on my cgm around 150mg/dl. It won't budge!
I checked my blood sugar the other day when I woke up and it was 110. It had been 10 hours since I ate. 1 hour after I ate that last meal my blood sugar was 91. I was stumped at why my sugar was as high as it was 10 hours after eating but Dawn Phenomena explains it perfectly. That evening I got home and checked it again after work and about 5 hours after my last meal. It was 85. Thanks for the great explanations about all this!
Thank you so much!! I was diagnosed with type II diabetes 20+ years ago, and last year exercise and medication was no longer working. So I decided to switch to a Keto lifestyle. I lost more than 50 pounds, and very quickly! I feel so much better, blood glucose readings and A1C's went back to normal range - for the most part!! I was able to discontinue my medication and manage with diet and exercise alone, but my AM FBS was still running in the 150's. My daytime readings were in the 90's, but I was really concerned about that fasting AM FBS. I never heard of the "Dawn Phenomenon" before, but have been able to take much comfort from your video, and realize that my normal A1C's and mostly normal blood sugars ARE a good sign that I'm on the right track. Thank you!
I was very worried because my blood sugar levels have been going up since I started eating Keto a week ago. I feel reassured now because I couldn't understand why this suddenly came on. Huge sigh of relief
Am 42 yrs old fit n fine... My hba1c is 5. I hv been doing IF along with low lifestyle. I was shocked to see my Morning fasting going up to 102 sometimes 105 but it stays stable through out my lunch n dinner around 120.... This video helped me understand that there is no need to panic. Thanks Doc
I have spent so much time and effort checking my blood sugar, even though I’m eating carnivore and low carb and my A1c is going down, now, thanks to you, I can stop freaking out. You are the coolest Doc!😎
I found this video extremely helpful. I am on day 5 of carnivore, and my blood sugar has been all kinds of crazy. This really helped clear up why. Thanks, Dr. Berry!!
*I had very high blood sugar I only managed to improve my health when I found a WONDERFUL treatment,❤❤ if you want to know about it, I left the video in the comment reply*
My blood glucose was 237 at the er an hour after eating taco bell. I'm not diagnosed diabetic. My a1c is 5.5 a few months ago and always get it tested every few months. So why would my blood sugar be so high?
You have probably saved my mental health with this video! I have a CGM which has highlighted the changes in my blood sugar levels and has increased my level of stress! Time to stick with the program and be patient! I am assuming that I no longer need to inject insulin in an effort to lower my levels! Thank you 🙏
Had to come back and watch this video again, high (for me) fasting blood glucose test today (5.8 mmol/l). I had forgotten that a bad nights sleep can cause elevated levels. Thanks Dr. B.
Thanks for this! I have PCOS and have started a stricter low carb diet - keto. Im waking up with blood sugars between 101 and 110, which concerned me. But then a little over 2 hours after a meal, ny blood sugar was 93 and then 2 hours after another meal it was 112. So great to see that my blood sugar after eating is great. But the morning blood sugar was freaking me out until I saw this video.
Dr. Berry the non nutritive amino acid you talked of in beets brings it home for me because when I drink water mixed with beet powder for my health my abdomen goes from fat to looking 4 months pregnant! I know my body is reacting to what is in the plants. This wednesday 20 Sept 2023 my VA Doctor is getting my blood for my labs & then I'm starting my Carnivore adventure or ketovore depending on how my body reacts. East TN Veteran here & gonna help as many others as I can...Thanks to you & your wife helping us❤
This made me feel a lot better. My diabetes has been uncontrolled for 10 years. I had trouble finding a supportive, non bullying doctor. But I recently started monitoring my sugar with a CGM. And started a keto diet two weeks ago and have been really stressed that my sugar has been higher in the morning even though it's down before I go to bed and have made good choices the previous day. I've also noticed that whenever I get hungry it starts to go up and will continue to go up if I don't eat.
Thanks very much for this video Dr Berry. I’ve been going hard core ketovore the past few months and lots of fasting. With a morning blood sugar highs in the 150’s was thinking it was doing damage to my system. And was wondering weather or not I was doing the right thing.
Thanks Dr. Ken Berry. You saved my life! I watched almost all your videos to reverse my type II diabetes. I’m 52 years old and I am full of energy and I’m in the best shape that I’ve ever been in my life! Keto diet definitely reversed my diabetes. My A1c went from 8.1 to 5.7 in 3 months. Carnivore diet however, accelerated bettering my health, and further lowered my A1c to5.4. Now I enjoy occasional regular whole foods meal but nothing makes me feel better than being carnivore. I always go back to carnivore diet after I feel bloated with vegetables and fruits.
I been on the G7 now for almost one month. It is the first CGM I have had. I already found out the sensor is very sensitive to temperature changes. I notice that when I exercise the G7 shows blood glucose going higher and taking a hot shower even higher. In one session I had over 100 point increase. When taking a cold shower the reading dropped sometimes 50 points. Today I tested this and placed an ice cube in a plastic bag and held it on the sensor for about 3 minute and it showed a very rapid drop. I then covered the sensor with my hand to warm it up with body heat and sure enough a fast and high glucose rise according to the CGM. Testing with a finger prick stayed constant. Only calibrate the unit after being temperature stable for a for hours and keep in mind that the sensor accuracy will vary with temperature variations, the more extreme the temperature variations the more inaccurate the CGM will be until the temperature stabilize to the temperature the CGM was calibrated at
Thank you for this great explanation. I love tracking my BS and BP. My fasted BS will go up after I take an inclined stroll on the treadmill or kick booty on the elliptical … and so do my fasted ketones. ;-) Love it!!!! Thanks for verifying I was spot on about not worrying. Dr. Bikman wrote such a wonderful passage in his book regarding counter-regulatory hormones (like cortisol). Definitely helped me understand what stressors do to my body and why (so the sabretooth tiger won’t eat me for dinner).
Thank you so much for posting this video!! I am 35, my A1C is 10 and I have been a diabetic since I was 18. Severally insulin resistant and have a bad sugar addiction!! I have had a unhealthy relationship with food for years!! I’m trying hard to fix that!! I get frustrated fast when I can’t get my sugar down with a strict diet and I give up!! I’ll do my best to trust the process!! Thank you for the help!!
Keep trying. Diabetic at 18 is very scary. Start by eating three wonderful meals every day. Eat all your favorite low carb foods until you’re comfortably stuffed. But not one snack. Not one bite that isn’t on your meal plate. Not one sugary or sweetened beverage. You may not be food addicted, you may just be carbohydrate addicted and this way of eating will break your carb addiction. I’m wishing you the fortitude you need to succeed!
I am one of those 5-10% people that get blood sugar up about 20 points with caffeine (and ugly symptoms with it). I switched to decaf first thing in the morning, and sometimes a caffeinated or 50/50 mid day. It works a charm.
My fasting glucose for years has been in the low nineties. I’m 72. I lost 40 pounds in the past two years from no sugar, low carb, intermittent fasting and exercise. I feel great. I use no artificial sweeteners. I’m now trying to get into ketosis and got the Keto Mojo. After a 18 hour fast my ketones we’re .7. I wasn’t thrilled but not upset. My glucose was 131 and I freaked out. This video was reassuring, but I’m a bit of a fanatic and stressed out.
Wow. I did not know you had access to my thoughts and life. This presentation fits me to a "T" (makes me wonder about the meaning of that expression now). I have been very nearly perfect carnivore for about 14 months (everybody falls off the wagon occasionally). I easily average less than 10 carbs per day. I love the carnivore way of eating. Have always loved meat, but as you know, have been told to not eat meat most of my life by "educated" people. I have always struggled with my weight since college. I am 61 years old this month. I lost 120 lbs over the last 14 months (easy). About another 70 or 80 to go. Somewhere in the middle I did blood tests and had an A1C of 5.7. I figured I had no more worries about blood sugar because of my continued eating lifestyle including constant varying periods of intermittent fasting. However, I did get curious, so I bought a glucometer. I could not believe the first morning measurement was 125 as it was for several days. Then, I did a few days of fasting and figured it would come to "normal". 3 days of fasting and my morning measurements were still 115, still fasted. Thereafter, blood sugar always stayed around that range until I would eat (eat usually 6-8 hours after waking). And, as you state, when I would eat, it would go down to 85 for the rest of the day. This made no sense to me. I have watched many hundreds of videos (you having a large portion of those hundreds) and nobody has explained this like you finally did. They always talk about the "normal" person blood sugar curves. Mine looks nothing like the "normal" person. Thanks for putting my mind at ease and educating me. Thank you as always! Very grateful to have you! No medications at all.
Thanks for this video! I have been searching for an understandable explanation for what is happening when I have raised blood sugar levels when I have strictly followed my 5 to 10 grams of carbs a day eating style. I instinctively knew it wasn’t food related. Bad sleep and a body still healing from previously uncontrolled diabetes is more likely the reason! My A1c has dropped from 9.8 to 5.5 in 4 months, so I know I am heading in the right direction :) Thanks for the advice you provide Dr Berry, I have found it invaluable!
Thank you for posting, really needed to hear this information. Went to doctor and got blood work, one month in. (On Friday) Freaked out to see blood glucose level at 116. I have lost 19 pounds in the first 30 days. I know I can and will do better, it’s a process. I figure the body is adjusting to this omad and carnivore diet. My doctor freaked when I told him I was doing the lion Diet. Said I need to eat my fruit and vegetables…. No wiggle room in his brain. Waiting for his call yelling and carrying on tomorrow (Monday) But now I have a sound response for him. Test me in 3 months and prescribe a glucose monitor for me. I plan on being 30 ponds lighter at that time. Thank you for putting my mind at ease.
Dr Berry, thank you for your enlightening videos. I am a relatively new subscriber. You said in this video that you would put a link below this video as to how I can check my A1C myself at home. I do not see such a link.
I'm so glad you told us this! My blood sugar has worried me because when i hit it checked it was higher instead of lower and had me worried. You've helped me so much!
Dr Berry, you totally put my mind to rest. I am/was pre-dianetes 3 months on carnivore. Last week, i started dr sean O'Mara's recommendations for reducing visceral fat. I got a cgm, averaging in the 90s. Did a round of sprints and my BS spiked into the 150s. Thought is was a fluke but then it happened again. Found your video and totaaly relieved that i am on the right track for health. Carnivore strong. Thank you sir. You are an amazing person and Dr. Wish we could come you and spread the word to the medical community which like the good pyramid is completely upside down!❤
Thanks for the video. I'm a Type 2 Diabetic and I Fast 16/8 I've just started my carnivore life a little over a week ago. When I wake up my sugar is around 150 after my first meal at noon it goes down to 125 to 135. I lift weights at 4pm and my second and last meal is at 6-630pm and after that my sugar is around 95-100. It's funny how this video described my exact blood sugar routine. It's good to here some information on this subject.
Thanks, I needed to hear this. I forced my doctor to prescribe a CGM, insurance would cover it. Still it’s the best tool I’ve ever had in 25 years of being diabetic.
This was a perfect timing video. I've been a type 2 diabetic and unmedicated for 13 years. Since I was 10 years old. I fasted for two weeks and then went into carnivore. My Sugers in the morning are hitting 190 and its so frustrating. This helps me really let go of the idea that I'm messing things up or it's not working.
Type 1 Diabetics find first doing weight bearing exercise which increases blood sugar, then cardiovascular exercise which lowers it will provide the best benefit. Weight bearing exercise, as in resistance exercise, will provide a longer effect than aerobic exercise. They both have their own benefits.
Keto 6 years. Started feeling sleepy after my main meal. Started checking glucose its 100 to 120 all the time. Even when fasting for 12 14 hours. What's up?
I am 77 years old. While fasting and on Keto, I do either an hour of aerobic exercise (keeping my HR at 130 or below) or an hour of anaerobic exercise (pushing HR up to as high as 160). Aerobic exercise generally lowers my blood sugar, sometimes to as low as 80. Anaerobic exercise increases my blood sugar to over 120. Since anaerobic exercise burns mostly sugar, this just does not make any sense. Either way, I have dropped 21 pounds in just seven weeks and am approaching my target weight. Thank you, Keto! (Yes, I know that my max HR is high for my age, but I have always been able to push it beyond the average maximum.)
Not really surprising. Your body is generating glucose to satisfy the high demand of the anaerobic training. You produce more than enough as your body somatically can't tell how much will be needed (though your brain consciously knows your regimen). So, after your workout, you have that elevated blood sugar from the production you didn't use during your training. It will mostly get reabsorbed (some will be eliminated). Aerobic training can use lipids, so you don't get any glucose production, so no elevation.
THAT TELL ME THAT WHEN I DO BLOOD WORK MY READING 112 TO 117 ON A 12 HOUR FAST AND IF I GO 3 TO 4 DAYS MY READING IS 64 TO 77 THANKS DR WISH I HAD YOU FOR MY DR
Thank you for this information. I needed to read this! I have been eating low-carb on and off for 1.5 years. Nothing consistent enough to see anything fruitful. Was diagnosed with diabetic retinopathy 3 weeks ago and since that very day I have been strict and consistent but seeing numbers in the mornings of 240 even though I fast at least 16:8 each day sometimes more. Also super frustrating to see those numbers creep up until I actually eat something at around 2 pm or after exercise or just whenever despite my efforts. I know I'm doing things the right way, it just takes a toll on my sanity when the high numbers are still there but this video explains so much and makes complete sense. I have to remind myself to stay the course.
My first morning readings have been staying high this year (probably from covid vaccinations. Just a guess) I eat 2 low carb meals a day for past month. By the way, I finally was able to fasted yesterday for 48 hrs. Its taken 6 years of low carb lifrstyle to reach this ability to fast this long. A win for me! I was previously 12 years using medication but A1c was just going up and up. I didn't want to go down the path of extra strong meds without trying Keto and Fasting. Anyway, this morning my glucose readings was 16.6 mmol/m (297 mg/dl). So I used my exercise bike to do the hitt riding for 15 mins. Then sat in sun for 10 mins. After 30 mins of doing this, my readings went down to 12.8 mmol/m (229 mg/dl). I have been diabetic for 18 yrs. The last 6 yrs, trying a new way. I thought my monitor was broken the other day. My hubby took a reading using my machine. He got 5 mmol/m. Lol! So not broken machine, broken me! We are on same diet, same fasting etc etc. So its not diet related. My pancreas is working, tested last year. Now trying out a Naturopath to see if she can help me. I am wondering if its linked to Thyroid issues even though testing shows its in normal range. I find it very hard to loose weight too. I will try using the Minerals again like Chromium and Magnesium as Dr Berry suggested. Funny thing I feel a lot better now then the medication pathway. Just a long journey for me. So healer, I guess.
My fasting glucose was 99 after 17 hours of fasting. No coffee only water. On keto for 8 months. No stress. No infection or inflammation issues. No issue with sleep. Blood drawn at 11am so no morning glucose spike issue. I presumed it was “adaptive glucose sparing” due to keto? Seemed probably that my body would up the glucose due ti the stress of fasting…
Thank you, this information helped me to calm down after my blood test showed a high glucose level. I started my journey 11 weeks ago and I have noticed very positive results since I cut down on carbohydrates and sugar. Yesterday got tested right after i drank a mug of coffee with milk, got some upsetting news the night before and did not sleep well; also got some blisters on my finger (reason for blood test), and had a month of stress due to kitchen appliances not working and apartment managers not responding. Most of these issues have been handled and I am looking forward to better and calmer days. Thank for the information!
At 17:30 you mention an A1-C test kit and that you provide a link below. Ummm, I can't find it. I even went to your Amazon pages and didn't find it. Please help?
I have used that kit . Got it from cvs pharmacy. However it was 1 point off. It said my A1c is 7 but I got blood work up done in same week and lab test showed my A1c is 6 . Only sharing my personal experience. I’m not sure how good it is .
Thank you, doc! I was so concerned about the rise in my blood sugar until I watched this video. As of the middle of June, my A1C was 4.5, I eat a ketogenic diet, and my ketones run in the 2's. In three months, I lost 26 pounds, my autoimmune diseases are improving, and all of my bipolar 2 symptoms are gone. It is like a mircle, after 40 years of suffering to be well! I was bedridden in April. Thank you, you have helped me so much!
Some days my morning glucose is 70-85, then some days it's at low 100s, sometimes I feel like not even checking it so I won't get worried but I still keep checking it 😭
10/24- I'm so grateful you made this video. I needed the clarification so badly as someone who has been carnivore 74 days and was a type 2 diabetic. I've gone from 25 units of insulin to none. I still sometimes get a reading in the 130-140 range every now and then and I have been so frustrated thinking it was me reacting to one of the foods I have been eating this whole time. I do BBB and sometimes add egg yolks. You just took a world of weight off of my shoulders.😊
Dr. Berry was recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Saw that Keto was the best diet for me to get my body under control. Wanted to say thank you for your guidance been watching A lot of your videos and Dr. Berg and they have really helped me.
Thanks Dr Berry I’m T2D and this lecture fits in with my present situation having had COVID again for the 4th time and was really sick and I’m on my fifth year of the keto diet and no drugs. Every time I get sick my blood sugar goes up now I know why, very good lecture. 🇨🇦👍
Done keto for 18 months, lost the weight, blood sugar was good but now tends to stay 100-130 even after 16 hours of fasting, not terrible, no great. My glucometer lines up with lab blood test, no infection with a CRP under 3. But I've experienced stress for different reason with a lack of sleep for others, so that's a likely cause.
Also, after getting off of 4 BP meds a year ago after losing 40 lbs on keto, I'm back on 2 meds (lostartan HCTZ) after my BP spiked & would not drop. The HCTZ is a diuretic which causes a rise in blood sugar & mine stays 100-125 all day, not good, but not real bad either.
Thank you, doctor, for all your information. God bless you. I have a type 2 diabetes for 5 years.I also have kidney stones. I am on carnivore diet for almost 5 months. My blood sugar now every mornings around 180 up to 220. But I also hate my job . Now I understand why all this problem happens.Thank you
My A1c is always 4.7 to 4.9 for years. My fasting blood glucose runs 98 to 106 when I get my labs back from the doctor. I'm not sure why I hit 106 last month. I was fasting but did drink black coffee before labs.
Dr. Berry, you may not even see this note. However, thank you for this video. I have T2D and have experienced the events you described even tho eating ketovore/carnivore and was getting very discouraged. Now I understand what is happening and and it gives me hope and determination to continue the journey to reverse my T2D. Thank you for your hard work in educating people. I would be so lost without it.
This video was right on time. Been on this journey since June of last year (90 pounds gone and A1C of 4.7, down from 5.4). Test ketones and glucose on the regular using Keto-Mojo. Glucose has trended higher with nothing else changing in diet the past few weeks. After watching this I'm going to stop stressing over it.
I definitely love the fact that Keto-Mojo has a spot to journal about your readings. This helps me so much. Just going back and reading my journal entries (stresses, meals, workouts, etc.,).
Took me a full year ! Congrats for continuing on your health journey!!
This sounds like me🥺🥺
This is me too. Thanks for your comment. It is very encouraging.
To another 70 years!
70 years old also and feel great on keto 2 years lost 50 pounds
Started at 60.. wish I had known 20 years ago but as long as your alive it’s never to late!
What can raise blood sugar:
Infection
Injury
Inflamation
Mental stress elevating cortisol & adrenaline
Not getting quality sleep
High morning blood sugar
Artificial sweeteners
Coffee for some
Mineral deficiencies
Intense workouts
Prolonged fasting
Medications
You left out the part about the inflammation could just be a pimple!
Liver flukes should be on this list...mucking with host blood sugar is how they survive.
Even time of day you exercise.
Blood sugars elevate more in morning.
Around 3 pm is lowest.
Do those sweetners include stevia, monk fruit and allulose?
@@thakraken6995
No, but make sure they are pure, no hidden fillers, that could raise blood sugar.
These do raise blood sugar
Sucralose
Maltitol
There might be more that do.
Smoker?
Mine was 116 fasting recently and I was concerned but insulin was 4.
Mine was 99 after 17 hours fasting and 8 months on keto but I wondered was it “adaptive glucose sparing”?
@@osakarose5612 continue strictly under 30gr carbs a day.
You will succeed. It's issue of time
It will always be higher in the morning.
Stay safe
@@JohnSmith-fl5qn no sir if you’re diabetic stay under zero grams of carbs per day, week, month, and year! Why would anyone need any carbs?
Your body does that automatically it’s called the dawn event or something like that. It’s done because you should be getting up and going. I was like WTF is going on?! Research said it’s normal. If you average sugar is around 200 you won’t lower A1C to a normal. Let me guess, you doctor said he’d be happy if you lower it to or below 200? Mine did!
Stay safe
Last check on A1C was 4.9 from over 9.8 thanks Doc down from 42” waist to 34-36 👌🏼😊

You have to request. Show them UA-cam on Dr Gerber
Berry!!!
still keeping up?
I've been doing keto for years and I've come to the conclusion on my own that where you are in your journey matters. I've never heard anyone actually say it, though. So, this is validating. I get so mad when people claim that you can turn it all around in a week or two. Not in my experience. Thank you for sharing real truth!!
So true
This! 👏🏾👏🏾
A big thanks from Italy, Doc!
Forgot to mention that I had type 2 diabetes for 15 years. Only 2 months on keto-carnivore diet.
Same here... imagine how many years have been stolen from us along with money to cope with the problem
Three months my ac1 was 14 now 7.0 without medication I just follow ur advice .thank you so much doctor and GOD bless you and your family
Thank You. I learned. Went from 285lbs to 211 in 3 months !!!
My wife's alarm clock going off every 10 min makes my blood sugar go up like 5 points no joke

I've been keto since March. My A1C went from 6.98 to 5.7, but my sugar, while down from 145, was still 120.
A1c is a 3 month average. How could it change that much in 3 weeks?

How your clothes fit and
Height to waist ratio are better markers than the scale.
Look up the dawn phenomenon. Blood sugar is always higher in the morning
I'm 5'8", 115. I'll gladly take a few pounds you don't want lol
Lucky HER, having a sister-in-law like you 👍🏻
Rice is a carb so even if they don't add sugar it's a carb which turned into sugar
My doctor won't prescribe me a CGM and when I went to CVS to try and buy one without her, they wouldn't sell it to me w/out a prescription. Grr! If more of us had these gadgets and understood the underlying physiology of it all, we could stop the trouble BEFORE it starts.
Been on carnivore almost 2 months and all of a sudden getting huge spikes in the morning in my glucose. Now it all makes sense. Great video.
I just freaked my dr out I had a 12.3 a1c and in 100 days I dropped it to a 7.7 no medicine....
How are you doing?
Hats amazing. Congrats!!!
@@bribri14379 Keep it up. You'll start to heal and reverse diabetes damage eventually!
I'm glad to know that my high blood sugar this morning was from really severe stress and not anything I had done wrong.
Thank you.
Dr. J, PHD,
Are you really a doctor or is it a pseudonym? I'm just wondering!

Thank you Dr. Berry for putting my mind at ease with this issue. I see this effect in the morning especially on the day I do OMAD.

Thanks Dr.
Only calibrate the unit after being temperature stable for a for hours and keep in mind that the sensor accuracy will vary with temperature variations, the more extreme the temperature variations the more inaccurate the CGM will be until the temperature stabilize to the temperature the CGM was calibrated at
The G7 is garbage, nothing but issues for Me.

Not one bite that isn’t on your meal plate. Not one sugary or sweetened beverage.
My A1C was 9.8. Three months later on carnivore my number dropped to 6.6! Definitely heading in the right direction ❤!
Same here. I'm very strict with WOE and numbers still 140-160 often. I was sure it was sleep and stress. Still trying to figure it out
Thank you for posting, really needed to hear this information.
Waiting for his call yelling and carrying on tomorrow (Monday)
But now I have a sound response for him. Test me in 3 months and prescribe a glucose monitor for me.
I plan on being 30 ponds lighter at that time.

And my mornings were like yours...They are now around 107...still higher than I want so I am just continuing with this health journey.
Thanks. Two things mainly delay mine, continuous stress (actually endless, never stop) and not enough sleep. Mohamed
Seeing my blood sugar spike after working out was so frustrating. Thanks so much for explaining this!
Me too. Does this effect the numbers for testing a1c?
80 mg/dL is not low is is optimal. Ideal 83 mg/dL.
That whatsapp is a scammer, not dr berry,
I wish u all the best
You are the most sensible doctor I have ever watched or met in real life. Thank you and Neisha for all you do. ❤❤
It could be you don’t think your stressed but you body/organs are with a diet change. Will need to accept the new and maybe they will calm down
Thank you, this information helped me to calm down after my blood test showed a high glucose level.
Great numbers!
Some days my morning glucose is 70-85, then some days it's at low 100s, sometimes I feel like not even checking it so I won't get worried but I still keep checking it 😭
How are you feeling now?
Please show your source that says this, that he has T1D.
I cannot find one anywhere.
@@marlenegold280 lol. I guess I should have put I before the "was recently".

Thanks for the clarification.
I have T1D too.
I think technically you weren’t “fasted” if you drank black coffee before your blood draw. Not that 106 is a big number!
I wish you all the best Debra. Keep at it and you will get better!
2 years on keto and lost 40 lbs. I'm maintaining weight now. My morning blood sugar is 124.....My A1C went from 5.8 to 4.9.
