Here is the difference: In Islam, Usury is prohibited period. No one is allowed to give or earn interest from anyone regardless of their race or religion. Why doesn't another group have it? I think the answer is clear, there are only three ways: 1. Usury is indiscriminate, that is, interest is charged to anyone, regardless of the group. 2. Usury is charged only to those belonging to the group different from ours, and if those of the other groups do not have a similar regulation, that gives us a group advantage. 3. There is no usury at all (which would eventually happen if all groups implement that policy of not charging interest to those in the same group). Only case 2 gives a clear group advantage.

There would have bene little chance for some of the most successful undetakings to succeed, whether it was supplying trade fleets during 18th century or building successful companies today. It’s basically an investment. And interest ensures that the loan is taken for reasonable cause. In Islam ussuri is not allowed regardless of your religion, if a Christian/Jewish/Buddhist/whoever gets a loan from an Islamic bank, the bank won't take any interests.

I literally calculate and have to set aside any small interest that I get in my checking account if at all to donate. 2) Muslims are trying to create a system similar to the Jews, but it is very immature and doesn’t have the same financial backing as Jews do. 3) In Islamic financial system, anyone regardless of religion can participate as long as they intend to not participate in usury. But since it is not mature, there are not many takers or believers yet. 4) Islam is not a country. It’s a religion. I’m a Muslim with very basic knowledge of Islamic banking, and having always been exposed to regular banking system, I do want to add few pointers. 1) in Islam you absolutely cannot borrow or lend money directly or indirectly with interest to any person, no matter their religion. I literally calculate and have to set aside any small interest that I get in my checking account if at all to donate. 2) Muslims are trying to create a system similar to the Jews, but it is very immature and doesn’t have the same financial backing as Jews do. 3) In Islamic financial system, anyone regardless of religion can participate as long as they intend to not participate in usury. But since it is not mature, there are not many takers or believers yet. 4) Islam is not a country. It’s a religion. So Koreans cannot do it because Korea has a constitution and system that is not dictated by religion. Same with Indians.
