    Thanks for the video. I just received my version 3. What an incredible watch for the money. The proportions are perfect. Just feels and looks like quality.
    I’ve had Steinharts and sold them. They’re either too big or small. Steinhart pricing is good but after seeing the San Martin Steinhart looks expensive. Movement in Steinhart watches are better but this watch is keeping good time.

      Yes, it truly is incredible for the money. I’m actually surprised that they can make high quality watches this cheap. I guess anything is possible in China, if the work labor and manufacturing process is cheap enough 🤷‍♂️
      Thanks for watching and I’m glad that you like your new watch 👍

      The movements are the same if you buy san martin with sw200-1. Had 2 Steinhart and sold the both cause San Martin is simply better made watch tham Steinhart. However sn017 is off... I see San Martín getting the respect it diserves in a lot of channels. I think the brand is doing a fantastic job, the watches are amazing in every way, some details may be kinda weird, like the branding using the shark and other logos in the same piece, I wish they used the same unique logo on each watch, no issues about changing them among different models tho. Anyway, thanks for your honest review, stay safe, greetings from Colombia

    That’s an interesting watch - thanks for sharing your thoughts. I agree with you here. It’s a really nice watch for the price you’re paying. But I feel like it misses some identity. I wish San Martin would reconsider their branding and maybe extend to producing their own designs.

      Dear friend,
      First of all, we need to clarify some unrealistic remarks,
      We don't have the so-called "same factory" incident as you said,We are constantly upgrading the quality of our products,
      More and more factories are cooperating with us,
      We have eliminated many accessory manufacturers that no longer meet our quality requirements.
      At present, the quality of these brands that rely on "Swiss factories" to promote watches still lags far behind ours.
      The so-called factory managers just want to borrow our "San Martin" quality as their brand promotion tools.
      We have never publicized our cooperation with Swiss factories,Quality and customer reputation are always more real than relying on others' fame.
      We have communicated this with Gary a long time ago,
      He also realized that these remarks brought us some troubles,
      So it deleted the video about these remarks.
      We no longer want to be used as tools by others,
      Please stop these untrue remarks.
      Thank you for your understanding and support!

    Nice review!
    Though I feel like the reasoning for putting Phoibos on top is pretty arbitrary, considering at the end of the day, you're comparing two homage watches so that fact that Phoibos makes original watches as well is a bit irrelevant.

    • @backintimewatches
      @backintimewatches  3 роки тому

      I get your reasoning and if I was talking about which watch was the best then you’re right, what other watches a company produce should have nothing to do with it.
      But, when it comes to which brand I like the most, it’s a different story. Then things like original designs etc come into play. Then stuff like that matters. If you’re only copying stuff or actually trying to do something original. And that’s when a company like Phoibos wins my respect and one like SM just makes a good homage.
      And when choosing between two good watches, the way you feel about the brand overall might tip the scale in its favour 🤷‍♂️
      Thanks for watching 🙏

    There are a few channels I make sure not to miss and yours is one. Please give me your opinion. I have the San Martin SN017 in black and can't stop looking at it. For $200 this is an incredible watch and with sapphire and ceramic it pops. I feel like for the money it gives me close enough sensation to wearing a Rolex. The movement is ok, not great but acceptable. I'm trying to decide on a blue version; the Davosa Ternos 1615540 or the San Martin. Davosa is $600 more. Is it worth it? Are the lines softer? As you mentioned in your video the San Martin case is very sharp on the end of lugs but you don't feel it when wearing. Thank you! Fred

    • @backintimewatches
      @backintimewatches  3 роки тому

      Wow, that's incredible man! I feel honored to be one of those channels for you!!! Didn't think I was one of those channels for anyone to be honest 😂
      My totally honest opinion on this would be no, its not worth it. Not if you look at what you pay for and the raw specs. Then no, the Davosa is not worth three times as much...
      But, on the other hand, I own a Rolex GMT Master 2, and I didn't buy it from an AD... I payed almost double retail from the grey market. So I'm not really the one who should give anyone advice on buying stuff based on value, since that Rolex is by no means worth what I payed for it, and yet I still did... I buy with my heart and not always with my brain.
      The Davosa is a better watch. Better finished, better movement, but not three times better. Not even two times better. And the value retention when you sell the SM if you buy it new vs the value retention with the Davosa if you buy that new is ridiculous. The SM holds its value so much more 👍
      I actually did a comparison video where I featured my Davosa. Sadly the SM is not included in that video but a lot of other watches are 😊
      I'm really thankful for having you as a subscriber 😊

      It’s getting more and more difficult to find a decent watch repairer that works for a reasonable price. Some places here now charge the equivalent of around 300 usd to service or work on a watch as they can’t repair them themselves and send them away. The problem is many watchmakers are older and don’t use the internet to advertise or are retiring and not being replaced.

    • @backintimewatches
      @backintimewatches  4 роки тому +3

      As I usually say in my videos, I’m not an expert in any way and my opinion is by no means better or more legit than anyone else’s. With that said, and since you asked, the question has two answers in my humble opinion.
      No, it’s not the best submariner homage. That would be the Davosa, followed by Steinhart. It depends on what you as a collector value in a watch. For some dumb reason I value a Swiss made watch more than a Chinese made, and the Davosa and Steinhart are simply better finished and with some more identity of their own. But this answer only goes if you don’t consider the price.
      If we’re taking price into the mix, then yes, San Martin is the best submariner homage in it’s price class and there’s no competition until you get to $500.
      But you also have to consider that I haven’t tried out every homage watch out there 😊

    I think the problem with the SM is the connection with the AE. But SM is not just another Aliexpress company they are microbrand ( they do everything to be considered as such) that uses the site as a way of distribution. The watch is great. Not only as good as the price would suggest but also among more expensive micros they have some quality to compete. Of course the coolness and comfort of this piece, apart from the good quality and the proven movement, comes with the borrowed/coppied/stolen design but that's also the reason most of us go for it. The cons are as you said. But I do like the magnification window. For me (as it is in my watch) the size and alligement are great. I think it's made to be readable with the certain angle of you wrist. That's a fun every day beater with a look and robustness. If anyone is being afraid of the chinessness ( I made the word up ;p ) of the SM don't be. Got yourself this piece and you won't be dissapoited.

      @@backintimewatches I don’t think the warranty card is worth a damn anyway. Out of the 2 sun martins I have bought both have been faulty. Both watches had problems winding in that the rotor was spinning when you turned the crown. A known problem with the eta 2824 that the sw200 in one is based on. The other had the pt5000 which is similar.
      The first was from wrwatches and they accepted the watch back and repaired it (at quite a cost to me as I had to pay shipping and taxes on import again).
      The second I bought from San Martin on Ali and they wanted a video of the problem so I had to open the case to show this. They replied that this is normal so won’t accept it back for repair.
      It wasn’t as if the rotor was just turning a little before the mechanism allowed it to slip. It was spinning madly every time you turned the crown and holding the watch at different angles didn’t help at all.
      A sure sign of poor assembly and QC? Bad they won’t take it back and no local watch maker will do the minor lubrication required without doing a full service which costs around £100 to £200.

      But it’s actually not better than the Steinhart. But still a great bang for the buck 👍 Thanks for watching and commenting 🙏

    I ordered my v3 with a custom cursive San Martin logo. Looks better than this or the new hex logo. Extra $30 but worth it.

    Just judging from videos and pics, this San Martin makes the Ginault look rather overpriced - ignoring the superior, high-beat movement inside the Ginault. The San Martin's build quality, finish and materials look pretty great for a watch of this price.

      @backintimewatches  4 роки тому +1

      Oh yes, the Ginault is overpriced. And compared to this watch, so are Steinhart and Davosa. But some might consider San Martin to be overpriced compared to Pagani, Parnis, Loreo etc. I’ve come to the realization that it’s not all about value and sometimes the heart makes some stupid choices 😊 Thank you for watching and commenting 🙏

      Girpon3 You’re actually right. I scrolled through their page now and yes, there are some original pieces 👍 But the main part are homages and that’s what you see when you enter their website and scroll through the first 10 watches 😊 Thanks for watching and giving me that info 🙏

    I don't know why, if you appreciate original designs as a value of your favorite brands, you name Parnis in the last place. That makes me think that you only want "homages" (euphemism for fakes lately) instead of the multiple Parnis models with original designs that may have some resemblance to a particular model characteristics, but in essence are original. Few Parnis models are this kind of "homages" and I have seen them only lately, due to the great success of this Pagani shit that is no other thing that a product of the fake watches industry flourishing in china. Take a look at Parnis models like Master 03 and PA2122 and many others. With Miyota and Seagull movements, beautiful dials and very good detailing, the only weakness of Parnis watches is their bracelet. But nothing you can't solve with few euros.
    I think I will never buy this kind of homage fakes. Pagani, San Martín or Parnis. For me, that's crap.

      I’m glad you shared your opinion and I’ll check out the Parnis models you mentioned. As you can see on my channel, I have both the original design pieces (like the Rolex GMT Master 2, Tudor Black Bay GMT etc) and also homage watches. I like both and I see how they complete each other since I wear them on different occasions and for different purposes. As an example, I would never wear my Rolex GMT at work. I work at a preschool and play with kids all day long. Football, basketball, hockey, wrestle sometimes, do dishes, serve food etc. Not a environment that I would feel comfortable wearing my Rolex in since I’m not rich and I invested a whole lot of money in that watch. That’s where watches like Steinhart or San Martin come in. I get the same look but I don’t have to pamper the watch 👍

    I'd buy a San Martin if it weren't for that God-awful Logo they insist on sticking on the dial now. The dial Branding on the watch shown is ideal. I wonder if you can specify..Doubt it.

      I agree and I actually talk about the logo in the video, guess you didn’t watch the whole thing😊 I also mention that this is the Version 2. And at 3:13 I actually specify the actual ref-number 👍

    San Martín have their own original designs so you need to be better informed.

    • @backintimewatches
      @backintimewatches  3 роки тому

      They have, yes. But they are mostly a homage-company since the dominant portion of what they are offering are homage watches. Not like Phoibos where they literally have zero homages in their collection right now.
