Keith was also the guy who broke down in the first episode when a mother asked where his son was and an arm was all that they could bring.

@@tFighterPilot not everyone can remember the same voice in an anime. Especially if your still new to it. Unlike us, we can recognize voices now from the same person in different animes
@@samsaumaralikhan Been watching anime since the toonami days and I can't recognize any Japanese voices at all. Maybe I need to learn the language a bit in order to do so
The manga shows that Keith was trying to apologize to Carla and that the reason he broke Eren's belt was because he was thinking about Carla's feelings for Eren. I wish they had included these things in the anime as well.
I mean, that's at least partially displayed here

I agree, it's just pure storytelling nothing else and still it's a wonderful episode
Keith Sadish is a character marked by unfortunate circumstances, propelled by an earnest determination, particularly after receiving special acknowledgment from Grisha Jaeger. Despite his relentless efforts, he finds himself repeatedly encountering setbacks and failures, both in his mission and in his romantic endeavors, which ultimately contradict the supposed significance of Grisha's words. This transformation of motivation into a burdensome curse reshapes his perspective.
Withdrawn and burdened with shame in the shadow of those he perceives as achievers, he nonetheless demonstrates admirable qualities by confronting adversity, as seen in his decisive action during the event to retrieve Eren back from the forest. Despite his complexities, Keith remains a paradoxical figure-a twisted soul with a fundamentally good heart.
This is one of the episode that lingers in heart

Not too many people understand this episode to its fully extent. This is a major turning point for the following events.

Keith Shadis gets a lot of stick, but he really is a tragic figure who acted for the best when he tried to keep Eren out of the Survey Corps.
Seeing the weight lifted off of Eren's shoulders here when he learns what his mom said about him is one of the best moments of the series. Given what's to come, it's especially important to cherish that.
Knowing you're already in season 4: In my eyes, Grisha's claim that he had lost his memories was just a lie. He never forgot anything and just said that to blend in better.
He wasn't lying in that moment....... First time titan shifters often have memory impairment.... He probably remembered after sometime, but in that moment I doubt he was lying
Most of it was a lie, but he probably told the truth about not knowing how he got there.

Yea at first he didn't realise when he wasnt inside the walls but when he said he remembered being a doctor, at that point he had actually remembered everything
Grisha wasn't lying...Keith's words were he didn't know anything about this world...this world is the world within the walls...grisha knew nothing of it...all he knew was his life outside...and that's not what him and Keith talked about
Attack on Titan is truly a special show. I don't think there is any other anime that shows and tells you that it is okay to just be a normal person.

@@brianyaniro5086 😂 there was another comment on some previous episode about how the basement in AOT is probably the most dangling of a dangling carrot in anime ever and I also thought of "what about the One Piece?".
@@zulz1g lol true. I will say this in defense of that statement though, that we thought we were going to the basement in season 1 whereas noone though we'd find the One Piece in the first saga. That being said, 27 years and I'm still waiting to see what the One Piece is!!!
@@brianyaniro5086 I agree with your defense. There are more nuances and differences into the way both are being such dangling carrots. It's a subjective matter anyway, any opinion is valid. But in terms of which one is dangling longer, we all know which one is making so many people tired of waiting.. some already died 😢.. before even knowing about what the One Piece is... 😂
@@zulz1g I know. It makes me think of the 7 book Stephen King Dark Tower series which took him 35 years to write. He said that so many people, people on death row, old people, terminally ill, wrote him begging to know how it ended before they died and he could never tell anyone because he didn't know. Whereas Oda has said he knew how OP would end before he started writing it. One Piece is my favorite story of all time and I shudder to think of his passing before he's done. Selfishly for me but also the man deserves to rest and enjoy his life and family.
The soft/gentle part of Shinzou wo Sasageyo! when Carla talks about everyone in the world beeing special simply for existing hits so hard.
The music in this show is just the best.

This is low-key one of my favorite episodes of the show. It deals with heart and why we live. It hits harder the older you get and realize why you choose to live the way you do and why.

This is definitely one of my favorite episodes of the entire show. I love the final scene! There is so much character development for Keith, Carla and Eren in 30 seconds. It's insane.

The way revelations of info connect the dots between seasons of this show is still why this show is so great! And then there are more questions even after a huge reveal xD
This was one of Isayama's favorite chapters/episode. He said he could relate to Shadis as a bystander. I don't know if it's still his favorite.
What Carla means is that everyone in the world is special because they were all born into this world!

It still blows me away that Sugita Tomokazu (Gintoki) played Marlo and Ono Kensho (Kuroko/ Giorno) played Floch. Like, these are A-listed voice actors and in here they are just side characters.
Wait WTF! I like Onoken and the past characters he voiced but I didn't even notice he was Floch?!?!?! What kind of sorcery?!?! 🤣🤣
I rewatched his part from this episode for now and I still don't hear it. It's kinda a deep voice than the usual Onoken. SORCERY!! 🤣
One of my favorite episodes in the whole show. When Carla says how Eren is special just because he was born into this world, it feels like it encompasses the entire show’s point.

I love that Erwin's squad was Hange, Levi, Mike, and Nanabi. Sad that when Keith says special people do exist the ones looking back are Erwin, Levi and Hange, while Mike and Nanabi are partially obscured, as they are already gone by this point in the telling.

@@esha3353 Strangely, it's both. Eren's Mom basically said that we are all special. But before that, she also kinda like, it doesn't matter if you feel like a bystander by saying 'Is it wrong to not be special? I don't think so' and 'He doesn't need to be better than anyone else'
So what she was saying was, it doesn't matter if you're special or not, be optimist and be grateful in life.

This is what i was waiting for. The little things in the first few episodes turns out to be revelations two seasons later. Like Eren’s defective gear.
This is why i love this series. Questions are answered and the simple things will be significant later.

Bystander, this episode is peak writing wise
Keith loved Carla, so he broke the metal fittings on Eren's belt to keep her son Ellen from dying outside the wall. He wanted to cherish Carla's love for her son. In the manga, Keith's thoughts were clearly expressed, but these were omitted in the anime.

Actually the day when wall fell and the day when Rice family murdured is the same, but attack of collossal was kinda in evening and rice famili killed at night, so wall fell first.
@@dimalyubchenko2918 i placed it like this to simplify it but to fully expand on it itd be Grisha leaving to kill royals first, and the walls falling with Grisha eating Frieda around the same time

He is from marlay and knows full well what governments and people can be towards outsiders he would have been tortured for information if he said anything else but he didn't remember
@@partridgeluke Oh I thought you meant not knowing anything about the world inside the Walls. Which in the end Shadis came to realise. I think it would've been smarter for Grisha to act like he's just mental or an alcoholic, but without any information of such a person existing it'd be suspicious nevertheless
@@bulat8362 even not knowing things about inside the walls just saying he lost his memory is the best way to avoid having to answer questions like why he needed everything explaining to him about the world inside the walls. It's just simpler for him to lie on all fronts

In 4x20, Grisha asks Eren why he hasn’t shown him when the walls fall. So all he knew was that at some point in the future, the walls would be broken because that’s all Eren showed him at first. So he frantically begs Frieda to save the people of Paradis without even knowing that everything was going down that very day.

Yeah you're right, my bad. I was just confused by their dialogue. So Grisha was probably shown the memories of the attack on the day before the actual attack so he wouldn't have time to interfere with, just so he'd be motivated to go to the King asap
Damn this episode is a bit of a slowburn IMO, but it is one of the BEST.
