The most tragic part of this anime is Erwin never got to see the basement or the truth of the world when he literally devoted his whole life to finding the truth. He was SO close.
It reminded me of the dude in the tower in season two who just wanted one more drink before he was eaten by the titans. I feel like that was foreshadowing, especially with Kenny’s words, “everyone has to be drunk on something to keep going”
Floch’s speech played a huge part in Levi’s decision. The whole “we need a devil to defeat the Titans and that devil is Erwin, letting him die is going too easy on him” convinced Levi that letting him rest was the best thing for him. Erwin already was on the brink of madness seeing himself standing on a mountain of corpses and seeing the ghosts of all the soldier that died. When Erwin accepted to give up on his dream for humanity in exchange of Levi killing the Beast Titan he had a genuine smile on his face and thanked Levi for his choice, he felt free from his burden. Anyway, Mikasa wasn’t going to kill neither Levi nor Floch, you can see her turn the sword around when Floch jumped in, she was going to knock him out. Every character’s personality and development is on display here, and seeing them clash on each other in a desperate situation is just amazing from a writing standpoint. This is still and forever will be one of the best episodes in all of anime, and I say this even if I prefer S4 overall.
Imagine what Eren is living with! The kid saw his mother eaten alive. Then had his arm and leg bitten off before being swallowed whole. Then, saw another figure from his childhood eaten alive, by the very same Titan who had eaten his mother. Then, he learned that his father was somehow responsible for it all AND that he, himself, had eaten and killed his own father! Dare to imagine all that, if you can.

@@user-fd9xu4kx2w one of the most epic things I've seen in a show, always gets me teary eyed everytime I watch that scene. It's giving me goosebumps just thinking about it.
I'm so glad you guys understood Erwins handraise, almost everybody I see think he "rejected" the injection but as you said, he was having a flashback to the question he asked his father in class as a child. Which we hadn't actually been told before.
And honestly, it's really important! Even in his dying breaths he's still haunted by the fact that his desire to know the truth got his father killed first, then so so many of his comrades over the years. He feels immense guilt over what he's done because he KNOWS he was selfish about it even though that selfishness generally aligned pretty well with humanity's interests. He wanted to go down into that dark basement, and then that would have been it-he even says that he doesn't know what he'll do when he gets there. Armin wants to go *out* to the ocean, to the rest of the world, and he's the one who truly embodies the Scout Regiment's ethos and will keep pushing toward new frontiers.
Yeah, that handraise was a wakeup call for Levi. Even in the brink of death, Erwin was stuck in the past. His dream was to reveal the truth about his father's death, whereas Armin's dream was about the future they can have outside the walls.
What make me the saddest is how Bertold turn to his "friends" for help! Even thought he did so many terrible things against them he still saw them as his true comrades. Soldier are still just people after all. Bertold and Reiner were in a position that they need to blend in and that takes time. However being around people that long tends to make you form bonds but you heed to stay true to the mission so you will need to departmentalized your emotions. In the end Bertold departmentalized is psyche so much that he kind of forgot they were his enemy for a second. His screaming like that mirrored Marco's death. (Both stuck on a roof about to be eaten by a titan feeling betrayed by there "friends"). Reiner departmentalized his psyche to the point of split personality. Soldiers need to keep their emotions in check by using such methods and doing so take a heavy burden pushing people to the breaking point. This episode displayed that perfectly. Commander Erwin had to go through this so many times before, it was time for him to rest.
bert's death also just made me so sad bc besides the fact that it's a death that majority cheered for, it was also a death w a story not explored by the author; how lonely and tragic it must have been to see your friend lose it and be the one to bring him back every now and then, to be fully conscious of the atrocities you had to do, and to die without knowing your friends/comrades condition.
Also want to point out that Bertholdt's thoughts before transforming was that he'll be okay with the outcome of this, only for him to scream at literally anyone to come save him from this. Holy fuck. That made me really fucking sad.
I'm glad y'all were sad for Bert, I've seen so many people cheer for his death which is understandable, but based on the things he says and does it's apparent that he did see Eren and them as friends till the very end. Everyone is just a victim of circumstance
my favourite part about this is that Erwin led and sacrificed so many lives for selfish reasons to fulfill his dreams but in death he selflessly gave up his dreams for humanity. On the other hand Levi tells Eren to leave his emotions out of it, but in the end, against his logic he made an emotional decision to let his friend rest and save Armin

This moment is an amazing maturity+empathy test, because the show already informs you that he wasn't just some ruthless murdering machine, but also a victim, so you should be aware enough to overcome the tribalistic instinct, however it's very difficult to do that in that heated moment for like 90% of viewers. A lot of people think Levi chose Armin, cause he thought logically with Armin being better But Levi made that choice using emotions rather than logic where he didn't want Erwin to suffer any longer in this hell of this world that he wanted to let him rest. 6:36 Levi told Eren to keep his emotions out of this but after hearing Floch(On how letting Erwin die would be too easy on him and we need a devil like him) he decided based on emotions Levi chose Erwin's happiness over humanity in a way, but also over his own happiness(Aka Levi would've preferred having Erwin alive)..He truly cared for Erwin :( As we see in the OVA "No Regrets", after the death of Isabel and Farlan..Levi lose his purpose in life but Erwin gave him one
That's true but I also think Levi chose Armin because his dream was objectively more promising. Erwin's dream was to find the truth about his father's death (past). On the other hand, Armin's dream was to see the world beyond the walls (future). In that situation, Erwin's dream felt smaller in comparison that of Armin.
amazing storytelling. when hange tells levi “he’s dead” it’s exactly like levi’s first ever scene, when he was giving a dying scout some comforting words, but the scout died before he finished. levi cursed to watch everyone close to him die and not even know if they heard his last words for them.
@9:05 "There are people I want to bring back too. Hundreds of them." Such heartbreaking words. It gives you just a glimpse of all the loss that veterans like Erwin, Hange and Levi must have gone through to reach this point.
I think that, apart from wanting to let Erwin finally rest in peace, the biggest reason Levi chose Armin was that he realized both Erwin and Armin were pursuing a big dream ("they are all the same"), and he remembered what Kenny said to him: that everyone needed a reason to keep fighting. Erwin's reason was learning the truth hidden in Eren's basement, which was about to be accomplished, and when Levi asked Erwin in a previous episode what he would do afterwards Erwin didn't have an answer, because he hadn't thought that far, because he didn't have personal goals after that. Armin on the other hand wanted to discover the vast world outside of the walls, so he would have a reason to keep fighting after learning the truth.
The thing about both Armin and Erwin giving up their dreams is that they are a very good parallel to each other as characters. Armin during his final moments was able to give up on his dream in order to defeat Bertholdt, whilst Erwin had to be told to give up on his dream. Erwin sits upon a mountain of bodies that only grows bigger as he gets close to his dreams, and he is not able to ultimately self sacrifice because he is drunk on his dream. Its just as Kenny said. Whereas Armin is the opposite, he too sits on a mountain of bodies now that will only continue to get bigger, but we see that he is willing to sacrifice his dreams and ambitions in order for the greater good. In their final moments, Erwin seems to be clinging on to his dreams, whilst Armin seems to be able to relinquish them to his best friend, and both were in the final lap to reaching their dreams. Also, think about what comes next after their dreams. Levi asks Erwin, what will you do once you achieve your dream, to which Erwin says he doesnt know. But Armin's dream to reach the sea is only the start for him because Armin says that the sea isnt the only thing out there. The sea as Armins dream is supposed to symbolize his dream of adventure, which is infinite, where as Erwins dream is only finite. These two characters are just incredibly written, and you dont realize their parallels until this moment, I personally think.
I now see the reason why you have the best reactions. You care about EVERY ONE of these characters so much that it creates conflicts in your emotions. You love all of them. ❤
He was a mass murderer, even if he was brainwashed and get some remorse he still persisted to in destroying wall's humanity. He wasn't worth crying for.

Love the fact that y’all sympathized with Bert’s death. Most reactors don’t. Breaks my heart every time I see it. Him calling out to his comrades in his final moments
When Bertholdt woke up and saw Eren, Mikasa and the others. He called them and screamed for help, that is proof that He really considered them as comrades (as he mentioned in 2x11). Then after few seconds, he realized that he is in war between them, and called Annie and Reiner for help.
bertholdts death is the 2nd death i cry most over. idk why its just the way he was crying and begging for help. and to know that he never wanted to do this in the first place is just so tragic
Key detail which is absolutely heartbreaking The moment when Berthold is about to be eaten you can see that his reaction at first is the fear of being eaten, then he sees Eren, Mikasa, Jean and the gang and he slightly smiles of hope because it's his friends and they'll help him, then he realize the situation and what just went down and screams for Reiner and Annie's help.. His facial expression and the voice acting just guts my heart. Rest in piece Erwin & Berthold
Levis's thought process- Erwin had a comparatively short term definite goal unlike armin's long term vague vision. And erwin thanking levi meant erwin had made peace with the fact that he couldn't reach the basement, which was his single life goal. Erwin was reaffirming himself with his speech, even if he died without reaching the goal, he will trust his successors to achieve that for him. This is why AOT is the GOAT.
When two reasons collide and each other has their own weight and value.. but you have to choose only one.. .. that's a position no one would ever want to be. .. you have to live with that and tell yourself every single time, .. that you don't regret what you've chosen.. .. even if sometimes a part of you screams inside that it should have been the other one.
How ingeniously the author made this scene. We are literally watching a court where there is a judge, lawyers and a prosecutor. Which one of them is which, you decide for yourself. I feel so sorry for Rahner. That at the moment of disclosure, he showed himself as regretting that he went further against Zeke (if you didn't understand, there the armored one in one of the series lost to titan the monkey at the end). He understood the injustice of this world and went against it. It will only get more interesting from now on. Then he will open up even more. And as always, we will get a lot of answers. I was parsing his remark at the moment of disclosure right by the phrases. There's a lot of meaning in his words. 5:33 This is the first time I've heard such an idea. It would really be ironic if there was more serum in there. It was nice watching your reaction, thank you. You have so many emotions. I'm reviewing it for the thousandth time and crying. The music is perfectly matched as well.
Berthold had a temporary memory loss after waking up, so in that moment when he looked back begging everyone for help he truly believed they were friends, all he saw was his friends smiling for his death, then he yelled for Annie and Reigner. Such a heavy episode!
This episode was the most traumatic for me. But good catch on noticing that the people outside the walls have a different culture, with the sweets and baseball references.
This episode was really stressful for me the first time I watched it. My favorite characters of this show are Zeke, Reiner, Annie, Erwin and Bertholdt. Zeke didn't work his way up there until season 4, Annie's locked away and not even part of the current events but all the other three were hanging on by a thread here with the promise of at least one of them dying. Two of them ended up doing so and it was simply a very powerful episode no matter which characters you sympathize with the most. It absolutely deserves being spoken about as one of the stronger episodes of the entire series. I loved your reaction and I can't wait to see what you make of the most insane information dump I've ever seen in this medium - non-stop answers and information, lots of it groundbreaking, for pretty much the full duration of two episodes (20 and 21). I know that you're well into season 4 as of a couple of weeks ago so I can safely refer to that information dump without risking influencing your reactions to those episodes. 😅
The thing is that we know Armin as the "Good Person" or "having a good heart" .... 《might be an indirect/partial spoiler》 .... but wait until he becomes the "not so good person" and being the Top-2 for conducting extreme level War crimes And, i don't even need to mention the Top-1, becoz you'll find out soon enough
Bertoldt’s death is pretty tragic, especially when you understand everything they’ve gone through. It’s refreshing to see them emotional that he’s getting eaten. At the end of the day I couldn’t feel good watching a kid beg for help from his friends, including the ones he betrayed.
Hajime Isayama is the mastermind, and offcourse, he can make you feel, mix feeling, nonetheless, he is trully a genius THANKSS FOR UPLOADINGG, see you 2000years from now 😄
Even though most of the Reactors were making fun of Bertolt, you guys were thinking about him as well, which brought tears to my eyes. There are no simple villains or enemies in this work.
5:34 saying early that I don't remember that synringe hand slap 9:42 i forgot what I was going to say bc I was daydreaming about the decision and if he had used the syringe on Armin and just _held_ Erwin for the last moments (but transformation, so fly off with his body). Morbid as it sounds, bring his body to the basement so he's still present . I remember earlier in that last part of my comment ; Levi has been subconsciously/coincidentally vetting these two (story-wise) since the moment he got the syringe. Asked Erwin his "what will you do after Maria" and he twice could only say he didn't know, or it depends. But eavesdropping on the trio he got his answer from Armin (everything in the book)
7:21 ~:26 ← How far into the future was Eren thinking when he said that? This is a very meaningful statement for those who know the characteristics of Titans and have finished watching Attack on Titan. All I want the girls who are watching Season 3 to know at this point is, "How did you come up with such a scenario! Mr. Isayama is a genius!!" That's all.
Fun fact. The English dub of Erwin Smith stopped watching Attack on Titan after this episode as Erwin never got to see the basement, he won't see the basement. 😢
I don't think Erwin would have chosen Armin over himself. The show emphasized it numerous times that Erwin had turned himself into a devil to lead the Scouts to whatever gains that had gotten. He literally sacrificed the entire Scout regiment just to create a chance wherein Levi could take down the Beast Titan. Floch wanted to revive him for the same reason. And, finally, Levi let him rest for the same. Erwin was willing to become a devil. Levi was not willing to make him one though. Though I do wonder how things would have gone if Erwin, and not Armin, had survived. Would Erwin have still managed to play a pivotal role (on a positive side) or would he have just made things worse.
Yh but b4 he did all that to reach the basement only cuz it was his dream but in the end he also sacrificed himself and his dream for the humanity. His final speech proves that
Damn im happy you guys had a similar reaction to me the first time i saw Bert getting eaten. Him screaming out for Annie and Reiner in his last moments was honestly so heart wrenching
In my mind Levi chose Armin for more than the reason to let his best friend rest and be at peace. Erwin didnt give Levi the answer to what he would do after the basement and the answers it will give him. It was the one and only thing that drove Erwin. He wanted victory just to reveal the truth. And Kenny told Levi that every person needs something that drives them. If Erwin reaches the basement and loses a big factor of what drives him forward... Will he still be as useful and driven? This made Levi realize even for pragmatic and tactical reasons Armin would be the right choice. Its what i assume at least.
"armin's gonna have to live with that" that shows you guys really understand his character and will see how true this becomes.
Unfortunatly it wasn't that exploited.
The most tragic part of this anime is Erwin never got to see the basement or the truth of the world when he literally devoted his whole life to finding the truth. He was SO close.

RIP Moblit. Hanges Right hand man.
This arc was the most intense emotionally for me
It always gets me. Levi loved Erwin enough to set him free despite that not neccessarily being the best for humanity
@9:05 "There are people I want to bring back too. Hundreds of them."
Such heartbreaking words. It gives you just a glimpse of all the loss that veterans like Erwin, Hange and Levi must have gone through to reach this point.
We finally got our tears
This episode was truly painfull this episode was perfectly brilliant just raw emotion from this voice actor
Exactly, and I bet Armin's dream also hit close to Levi as his childhood was also made of being limited to the underground city.
can not watch this without crying, masterpiece
15:08 Holy Moly that's some big brain right there 😮
I now see the reason why you have the best reactions. You care about EVERY ONE of these characters so much that it creates conflicts in your emotions. You love all of them. ❤
Your reaction to Bertholdt's death makes me real excited for season 4
thank you for crying for my boy berthold, he deserves so much credits
He was a mass murderer, even if he was brainwashed and get some remorse he still persisted to in destroying wall's humanity.
He wasn't worth crying for.
@@ParlonsAstronomiehis family was at stake wth are u talking bout man?
u've gotta watch s4 again ig cause u dont realise how much of a big trap the warriors themselves were in...
@@Inferno-rq5cd Their situation was tragic indeed but it doesn't make them hero either.
I pitty them but I wouldn't cry for them.
@@ParlonsAstronomie totally agree. Idk how ppl can relate to a mass murderer. So much crazy ppl out there i swear
Same here, its what drives me crazy later when everyone is happy with annie... Like fr no one remembers anything? Stupid af
these last 3 episodes are considered the holy trinity of the series, and the 4th season is even better
I think you guys are MVP of all reactors who have watched this episode so far!😭😭😭
I honestly love the emotional rollercoaster these two girls go through daily. Mon,Wed, Friday they be upset/mad/shocked bc of AoT then on Tues & Thurs they be laughing/happy/excited bc of OP. Truly love these two so much! Glad I found this channel cause y'all have amazing reactions
Love the fact that y’all sympathized with Bert’s death. Most reactors don’t. Breaks my heart every time I see it. Him calling out to his comrades in his final moments
This is, for me, the single best episode of this whole show. That was a masterclass in how to write a moral dilemma
Yall are so smart I can watch yall forever, I never thought this deep on the episodes and realized I missed so much.
I feel like AOT is the only show that can make the girl on my right cry.. "Haylo".... I love it❤
One Piece is doing it too, as far as I have seen.
''who even are you dude?'' she spoke for all of us 🤣
Bertholdt died like Marco, without a chance to fight and crying out for help from his friends
It always hits me hard whenever I remember that Bertholdt and Marco had the same death. Both left to die by people they used to call friends.
I like that this channel's intro is all "live love laugh" and then react to the most brutal scenes like these
When Bertholdt woke up and saw Eren, Mikasa and the others. He called them and screamed for help, that is proof that He really considered them as comrades (as he mentioned in 2x11). Then after few seconds, he realized that he is in war between them, and called Annie and Reiner for help.
bertholdts death is the 2nd death i cry most over. idk why its just the way he was crying and begging for help. and to know that he never wanted to do this in the first place is just so tragic
its like after watching it..u dont know what to be sad about anymore..you just know u are SAD!!
タフなエピソードでしたね😭何回見ても泣けて来る…
Key detail which is absolutely heartbreaking
The moment when Berthold is about to be eaten you can see that his reaction at first is the fear of being eaten, then he sees Eren, Mikasa, Jean and the gang and he slightly smiles of hope because it's his friends and they'll help him, then he realize the situation and what just went down and screams for Reiner and Annie's help.. His facial expression and the voice acting just guts my heart. Rest in piece Erwin & Berthold
このエピソードはいつ見てもグッとくるものがあるよね
I clicked to watch so fast, not even a moment of hesitation.
"I don't understand anything" its actually astounding how much you're picking up
15:12 Who even recalls Annie liking sweets at this point in the show in the midst of all of this madness? This is BIG brain energy right here.
They probably wrote down those things
ベルトルトが食われるシーンで感極まるとは、なんて素敵なリアクター方でしょう。
Levis's thought process- Erwin had a comparatively short term definite goal unlike armin's long term vague vision. And erwin thanking levi meant erwin had made peace with the fact that he couldn't reach the basement, which was his single life goal. Erwin was reaffirming himself with his speech, even if he died without reaching the goal, he will trust his successors to achieve that for him.
This is why AOT is the GOAT.
I knew you guys was gonna cry huge tear jerker 16,17 and 18 gets them every time there’s more to come trust me this show is something else
12:06 damn the realisation that Erwin is actually dead his lifeless eyes… the music… Armin alive and restored as a Titan… THE MUSIC DAMN
Can't believe you guys caught the Annie's sweets detail on the first watch!!
Its been so many years and I'm still not over the death of erwin he was and still is my favorite 😢
When two reasons collide and each other has their own weight and value.. but you have to choose only one..
.. that's a position no one would ever want to be.
.. you have to live with that and tell yourself every single time,
.. that you don't regret what you've chosen..
.. even if sometimes a part of you screams inside that it should have been the other one.
Don’t let the emotions distract you from the fact that Armin was rocking a six pack
You need abdominal muscles to survive mobility gear.
Pretty sure everyone in the miliary is rocking 6 packs in order to handle the 3D Manuever Gear.
Good ol' Titan glow-up.
@@ParlonsAstronomie Everybody has abdominal muscles, to show them you just need to be lean
I've never seen my always calm sister get so emotional.
I think its first time for me seeing reactors sad about Bert getting eaten, you both are special
First time i see your sister cry like that
Berthold had a temporary memory loss after waking up, so in that moment when he looked back begging everyone for help he truly believed they were friends, all he saw was his friends smiling for his death, then he yelled for Annie and Reigner. Such a heavy episode!
Smiling for his death? What you talking about? They are all crying
This is my favorite episode of TV. Notice how there is absolutley no music up until the very end. This is just haunting.
I absolutely love how this episode barely has any background music! It's all intense dialogue. Makes one feel like we're there!
The thing is that we know Armin as the "Good Person" or "having a good heart"
....
《might be an indirect/partial spoiler》
....
but wait until he becomes the "not so good person" and being the Top-2 for conducting extreme level War crimes
And, i don't even need to mention the Top-1, becoz you'll find out soon enough
2人のリアクションをいつも楽しく拝見しています😊2話続けてとてもつらい展開でしたね、でもこれからの展開に度肝抜かれると思います、見てて良かった〜と思うはずなので楽しみに進み続けて下さい😌
7:31 “who even are you?!” is exactly why he had to say what was on his mind.
And that’s really when he became my favorite character.
Lmao it was kinda funny
Can't believe this day would actually come. Proud of you girls
RIP Bertholdt😔
Bertoldt’s death is pretty tragic, especially when you understand everything they’ve gone through. It’s refreshing to see them emotional that he’s getting eaten. At the end of the day I couldn’t feel good watching a kid beg for help from his friends, including the ones he betrayed.
Hajime Isayama is the mastermind, and offcourse, he can make you feel, mix feeling, nonetheless, he is trully a genius
THANKSS FOR UPLOADINGG, see you 2000years from now 😄
From here on out, Levi is always standing on Hange's blind side.
Even though most of the Reactors were making fun of Bertolt, you guys were thinking about him as well, which brought tears to my eyes. There are no simple villains or enemies in this work.
5:22 Here is the first and last good action of Floch, enjoy !
Exactly! The respect I had for him went down the drain from S4. No support for fascist pricks in this house!
5:34 saying early that I don't remember that synringe hand slap
9:42 i forgot what I was going to say bc I was daydreaming about the decision and if he had used the syringe on Armin and just _held_ Erwin for the last moments (but transformation, so fly off with his body).
One of the few shows anime or not that in one episode didnt need music until the last 30 seconds
9:40 Remember levi heard them talking about the sea the night eren and jean fought? I feel like that helped influence his disicine a little bit 😅
"I don't wanna watch."
"Here we go."
"I'm not crying, you're crying."
*7:30** Karissa: "Who even are you, dude?!"* 🤨
*Floch: ~sinister side smile~* 😈
"""it's painful"""
😂😂😂😂😂
They still don't know that painful episodes like this are coming.
Oh man, Haylo got completely broken up by this one! 😭😭😭
this is one of the best episode.
@@اميرمادرا yep
Fun fact. The English dub of Erwin Smith stopped watching Attack on Titan after this episode as Erwin never got to see the basement, he won't see the basement. 😢
Best reaction channel of all time. My fav.
His final speech proves that
14:06 "There's soo much going on".
Ohh, shit hasn't even started yet 😂
I love the universal reaction to floche of “who are you?”
良いリアクションだと思います。観たからとゆって、どう成るわけでは有りませんが、彼女達の健やかな心の成長を祈ります。
