Levi was just happy his entire squad survived. It was a 1st and a sign of hope.

Not really. He was with his previous squad for significantly longer than he‘s even known this crew. He was happy because his final conversation with Kenny gave him a deeper sense of peace with his life and identity.

@@thefourcarsI’m confused. Mikasa is not super short. Kenny wasn’t. The grandfather in bed wasn’t particularly tiny. Mikasa’s dad didn’t look short. Levi is the only one, because he was malnourished as a child.

I find very interesting that Kenny's motivation the whole time was that he was so shocked by Uri's compassion, and admired it to such an extent that he wanted to become like him. But compassion was alien to him, he didn't understand why Uri, the most powerful being alive, would be compassionate towards others when he could just impose his will on them. And when Kenny saw that passing down the founding titan made another person behave like Uri while having the same power, he imagined there must something the person who inherits the founding titan knows that invariably makes that person compassionate. He wanted to acquire the knowledge that would make anyone, even the most powerful being ever (even someone as ruthless as Kenny) behave like that.
I also love that in the end he had an epiphany and finally realized the nature of Uri's motivation, that in a sense it wasn't all that different to his own dream, or anyone else's. And after that he chose not to pursue his goal any longer, accepted death, told Levi the truth and left the injection to him.
Naw it was the lost of blood that made him delusional 😅
What a great character Kenny was throughout this season.

@@Notskii love Levi but I wouldn't consider em a well rounded written character, sure he experience lost after lost and has reflexes that'd make a cat blink, but a great written character? I'd have to give it to eren
@@franky.378 this wasn't a comparison between eren and levi. Also Levi's character writing is criminally underrated imo. In the manga it's much more fleshed out but also in the show there are crumbs of immense character development and nuance for Levi that I think far too many people miss unfortunately.
There's a scene in the manga they skipped in the anime where Levi sort of pushes her to accept her role as a queen. That's why Mikasa told her to punch him once she becomes one.
I figured she told her to punch him because she's still salty about him kicking the shit out of Eren during the trial. After that, she said she'd make him pay. I guess this was just her very small way of payback.
In the manga it's the Reeves guy who does the punch joke. They replaced it with Mikasa in episode 9

They didn't skip the scene. They changed it. The reason is different in the anime.
Kenny Ackerman is a great example of a plot device done correctly. They needed to explain a lot of narrative backstory and came up with his character to do so. In terms of writing, he was the most improvised character used to tell a lot of details. But he so seamlessly blends into the story that you think he was planned way ahead of time like the rest of the story. It’s crazy how well paced and written this story is considering how young Isayama was.

Do we know from Isayama that Kenny was created afterwards / last minute? Isayama planned so much other things ahead of time I wouldn't have been surprised that included Kenny

14:40 that scene made more sense in the manga. Because in the book, when they were convincing Historia to become queen, she was resistant at first. And Levi basically grabbed her by the collar and slammed her against the wall, telling her she had to do it. So her running up and punching him was a bit of revenge.
levi smiled because nobody died on his squad coz remember they are the new levi squad...levi was just happy nobody died on his watch...
The next arc is the best arc of all time! Not just in AOT but in all anime

this is one of the most underrated episodes in AOT
I think for so long the squad see Levi as just really cold/calculated/untouchable. For Historia to be able to have more power than him would be mind blowing for them all. I also think that moment is where they would start to see Levi more as a friend/human than just a superior officer. I also love that he just kinda rotates so she gets him in the arm and doesn't try to stop her at all. I think even he was curious about what she was going to do and thought it was funny.

Yup, in the manga it’s actually Dimo Reeves suggesting Historia to punch Levi after she became Queen. The whole scene is different, actually the majority of the arc is (even if the key events and resolutions remain the seme).
When it really show how Isayama worked on the anime to make it even better. Levi is less unidirectionnal with this
@@killeak999 meh I vastly prefer the manga with the uprising arc, much better pacing and direction imo. Levi’s scene with Historia in the manga shows that Levi is still a violent man and we should not forget that, because he was born and raised in a very peculiar place. And he makes an insanely good speech right after the scene with Historia, so yeah I prefer that.

Dialogue in this episode is top tier writing 💯💯
Some explained this already but they cut and changed many things in this arcs, one of them is Levi struggling and forcing Historia to become queen. Which is why Reeves dude told her that she should punch him to pay him back, after telling her that Levi seems to be actually a very good person except his "exceptional" ways to deal with things.
Another thing they cut was Kenny stating how Levi is his pride and joy, small but important thing especially when you know the author stated how Levi thought his whole childhood Kenny was his real father, also thought he left him bc Levi wasn’t good enough for him although he wanted to make him proud. This makes their relationship even more tragic.
It's amazing how episodes like this one, can be just as exciting as watching a battle amongst Titans/Humans. Kenny was one of those characters that you wanted to hate, but he was still a well written character that his passing is kinda sad.

The social status based on your last name is still prevalent in some countries. It may be a concept hard to understand for people from the first world…. But for families in developing nations(myself included) have seen how badly a last name can affect the opportunities we get. Ackerman is synonymous with the plight of millions in the real world as well and it would be lost on Americans that deal with simple politics like left or right

Like she said she's done with hers family but Levi kinda forced her and he get little rough to her so that why and also it's because Mikasa she's the one that put the Idea in historia head in the first place

Historia broke Rod Reiss's backbone when she slammed him on the floor after throwing away the serum. Because he couldn't stand so after transforming as the tallest titan (due to royal blood) he just crawled his way through ground to the wall due to which his face was half gone

I always interpreted Historia hitting Levi as overanking your commanding officer and showing a bit of hazing toward him. The way the whole squad reacted and got excited is because they’ve been bullied by him for so long and they finally got to see a bit of revenge.
I believe there was a moment in an earlier episode where Mikasa told Historia that she could punch Levi once she becomes Queen...that's why she did it

Okay so it was a cut content regarding Historia hiting Levi. In the manga before the whole kidnapping happened Levi tells Historia that she has to become the queen. She is hesitant and so Levi uses "force" (bullies her) to reinforce the fact that it is something only she can do and therefore she must do it. It's a much for emotional and funny gag which happens in the manga and this is just the summary.
In the anime it's kind of like a growth in her charecter where she sheds her pure/good girl persona and jokingly wanted to (ab)use her power. Also Mikasa being salty of how Levi treated Eren also helped with her backing the plan of Historia punching him.
Mikasa wasn’t even the one who actually told Historia to do that lol. It was made more clear in the manga that Mikasa doesn’t hold any grudges against him anymore. She doesn’t have any right to even after saving her and Eren’s life 😭

When season 4 comes around I hope you guys watch the trailer first. Nobody actually does it. Everybody just glosses over one of the greatest trailers of all time, that builds up the hype. If anyone of you likes movies and appreciates trailers, then you would understand great trailers are a work of art.
