It does make a good noise tho:p i make dark landscapes and drones. This with its big mama matrixbrute and a fuzz are a noise match from heaven or hell depends
Researching semi modular synths, and it’s fascinating that your ms20 mini video has 10x the views of this one. They both sound great to me, but t seems the minibrute 2s never really caught on, despite good sounds, a great UI, and unique sequencer. Which means it’s a bargain. Really nice work on this piece, thank you.
I often ponder the same thing! The Minibrute 2 has oodles of modulation possibilities that can be used to create really complex and beautiful sounds, the sequencer goes beyond any other integrated sequencer I've seen, and I think that it generally just sounds fantastic. The oscillators and filter can sound seriously fat.
I just came across this video that made me dream 2 years ago. And 2 years later, I still think it's the most beautiful track I've heard on this Minibrute. You've done so well. Bravo ..
Excellent! This is not just a proof of excellent technical skills - you are also a great musician. Thank you very much to show us all how powerful even affordable synth's are nowadays.
the wood in the instruments is really beautiful, the same thing happens to me when I see module minilogue xd 💖 great job Olivier those basses coming out of the minibrute make your hair stand on end I also like the gritty sound that comes out of the keyboard model 👾
This is great, thanks. Enjoyed the music AND the patching! I’m learning stuff myself with the 2S, but I find it hard to bed into a full track. The saw wave is a bit nasal and I’m having to scoop loads of it out around 2k. It sounds great sometimes, but seems to need generous amounts of processing to get it in the pocket. Does any of this sound familiar...? Would appreciate your take on it... the functionality is huge though!,
Thanks! Hmm yes I think the saw on its own can be a little lacking. I think I tend to always use a mix of both saw and square. The square sounds so good, especially with some pwm. Also having the brute factor up a bit helps a lot too. Or even patch the output back into the external input. I generally run the signal as hot as I can without it completely breaking down with distortion. Doing that, you should end up with a much fuller sound that’s easier to fit into other thing. Hope that helps :)
Great Patch! I keep puzzling over how you did this. At first I thought this might be a S&H into the sync to create the tonality that seems to be triggering faster than the sequencer. But I know where the sync is on the patch bay and it doesn't look you're using it. How did you do this?
Thank you! It's been a while, but I think I was just running two sequences at different sub-divisions. The sequencer has 4 tracks that can all have different lengths and subdivisions! So the one that you can see progressing slowly in the video is the bass notes, then there's another sequence playing the higher melody, and another outputting a short envelope to trigger the white noise. The sequencer on this is very flexible 😍
Fantastic! I didn't realise that you could run the sequencer tracks at different speeds. Oh man, I can still discover so much with the Minibrute 2s and you showed a lot of great ideas in this fine ambient masterpiece. But what I still haven't realised yet with your tune: Is the sequence for the envelope and the RM also from the Minibrute? I suppose you have used two pitch and two gate tracks for vco 1+2 - but what about the envelope and RM sequence o_O
Yeah you can set different step resolution and sequence length for each of the 4 sequencer tracks! So the way I have it set up is 2 pitch tracks for the oscillators , one gate track for the filter/amp envelope, and the last track is set to envelope mode, which outputs a short envelope on the sequenced steps. That's what I'm using to modulate the white noise and resonance :)
@@oliverdowie I was watching a lot of minibrute 2s videos and let me say it's the one with the most "complete" use of the synth. It's there any possibility you can make a video explaining the patch (also the sequencer)???
Lovely stuff! I'm thinking seriously about getting one of these, but also considering the Novation Bass Station II and Korg Minilogue XD. What would other people's pick be between those three?
Any of those would be a great choice! Both the Bass Station II and the Minilogue would be somewhat more user friendly as they have patch memory. The Minilogue is also polyphonic. The Minibrute 2 is the more unique synth of the 3. Really just depends what you want to use it for and what sound you enjoy :)
This is exacly why i colet money for synths but so much choices i can't F**** decide.... which synth would be good for me and i have complet 0 experience.. ;/ BTW such a great jam... i love ambient/idm
Actually just submitted an album to be released on streaming platforms soon! It's only got one of my youtube pieces on it though, and a bunch of other older compositions. I plan to release an album full of this sort of stuff at some stage too :)
@@oliverdowie Are you releasing the album under the name you have here, or as some other moniker? I found this video because I've been thinking about buying one of these for about a year now and am thinking to do it now. I have many years' experience making music with software synths, but this would be my first hardware synth. Inspiring sounds and inspiring track here! Thanks for posting it!
Just got mine this week and working on this two track style stuff. I’m already super excited by the results and I’m nowhere close to this two track style
Wow is this high melody the second oscillator? How did you make it sound THAT good?? Ah mom: Did you routed it back to the external to have the filter cutoff control both oscs? I really like the sound and the vibe of this tune :) After forgetting my MiniBrute for a while I really want to make some new patches with it. Just even recorded a crazy experimental Techno Jam on it (where I unfortunately didn't tuned the kick good for my ears -- hopala xD) Anyway nice tune btw xD
Yeah the high melody is the second oscillator. Both oscillators are routed through the filter by default, but you can take the CV out of the sequencer and plug it into the VCO 2 CV input to control the pitch separately. I did use the external input for the modulated white noise though :) Getting these tones is all about finding the right balance of oscillator levels, filter level, and brute factor!
Thanks! As with most mono synths I think it's probably better suited to bass, lead, sound effects, percussion etc. The envelopes don't go very long which makes it a little less suitable for pads. Though having said that, there's a ton of modulation options for slowly evolving sounds, and you can sequence the oscillators separately for some nice harmony. Soooo it's probably actually not the worst choice for pads!
Finally, someone showing something musical and not just noises !!!
It does make a good noise tho:p i make dark landscapes and drones. This with its big mama matrixbrute and a fuzz are a noise match from heaven or hell depends
Just what I was going to comment!
I agree, it's a terribly underrated instrument. Great use of it here, too.

Taming of the Brute. Brilliant sounds so masterfully sequenced and performed.

This video gave me hope I could do way more on my 2S than I gave it credit for. Thanks, I was actually considering getting rid of it!
another great work, congrats!
I think this video is making me want one!
Nice patch! Mellow tune, I dig it.
Care to talk about the patch? Interested in knowing what’s going on.
please video explaining the workflow
Amazing job
i mean patchbay etc
Really, excellent!
I hope this beast is not underrated! Your morph it well too, sweet patching bay. Good lil vib here. Hails to electronics! cheers
This is such a wonderful performance!
This is really nice 😍
Sounds better than the novation peak 🤔 great work . Beautiful sounds 😊
Neat vibe. Keep going.
