The 2S is one of the first synths I bought when I got into this hobby about 5 years ago. I still own it. Hello fellow Quadrantid Swarm user! There was not a lot of info on it except for the MylarMelodies video, where I fell in love with it. I tried expanding the usability with a Keystep to play/sequence it. Unfortunately, the thing only behaves well in poly mode for midi, which doesn't sound that great. Don’t do it man! I had a friend who got into hard mod synth and now he sleeps on a slab of cardboard in an alley having given all his money to the man, and mumbles about control voltages.

As an owner of the matrix b, it’s good to see the little brother getting some loves here. I had the same time I felt like I was missing something from the video. More jams!
I'm very happy with my Minibrute 2s. I'm a fan of the tone and physical performance is my favorite on this (on an external midi keyboard and despite having to tune it lol)
I want to thank you 🙏 for introducing me to the retro kits RK002. I got one for my kaossilator pro and now have it linked to my circuit tracks!! Great content 👍 keep it up. Cheers 🍻
I do love my Minibrute 2S, but as you rightly say sometimes it's not so easy to get what you want out of it. For me it does absolutely shine in being really bloody accessible and getting to setup a sound is often incredibly quick. It does have a rather bright weird midrangey sound, but I love that as I find it sits rather well.
Awesome video. Agree with the assessment. Without going on for hours about the 2S (which I probably could), imo it's almost great. I found the Brute Factor feature way better implemented on the Microbrute (I think it was in a different part of the signal path?). It's hard to tame as you mentioned but the potential tonal spectrum is huge, I found my favorite 303-type bass ever on that thing once by accident. Oh and I'd always wind up patching the amp to the ADSR and then to the looping AD. That's fun.
I love the 2S so much, but it is absolutely a gateway to modular addiction. You buy one of those and suddenly a Clouds clone shows up at your front door. Truly a blessing and a curse.
I just bought a used 2s because I wanted something that could automate some dynamics for my Boog model d and arturia's sequencer seemed perfect for sending cv. Plus I quite like the character of the sound. It's not a clone but it's very analog. There are some rather lovely ambient demonstrations of what it's capable of on here so it's not all hard techno. It feels like a hugely underrated synth... Which I'm okay with as it meant it could almost be justified in my budget :)
I think i could have guessed this one from the intro. brutes have that gnarly touch, even without brute factor. I would own a brute now as an added module, but I passed on it as a first synth. I had a chance to play with a minibrute several times for a few hours and I couldn't make it sweet sounding. lol I bagged the idea of a basic synth and bought a used x-50 (korg mini workstation ) for about the same price. The x-50 turned out to be an extremely deep and fun keyboard.
Love this episode ! I was in negotiations with my minibrute 2S last night . I don't thoroughly understand the sequencer, and cv enough to consistently accomplish some fairly simple things . Hours of trial and error led to strange noises . The labeling of the cv functions reminds me of the odd 2 digit legends in the Roland menu screens . What SEEMS apparent is not necessarily the case . I better dig out the cookbook that came with it, to decode this alchemical codex . Now for another watch to catch the memes !
I wish this kind of hardware wasn't so expensive here in my country, Brazil. Seems like I'll be enjoying software synths for a while. At least, I hope to have some spare money to start supporting your channel next month. Cheers!
@@AudioPilz they get price gouging and/or the dealers get them at full price overseas, forcing them to price them higher to sustain their businesses Behringer supposedly wants their Volca-like "Soul" series to be cheap enough even for Latin Americans.
My first hardware synth! (though i have the 2s) When I take it out I find myself working with it four hours (due to the 4 sequencers) letting me create everything from kick, hat and melody in one patch and sequence the two oscillators independently from each other. You can also get some nice fm from it if you patch via the lin fm input
Love for the Easter themed intro :) And the second jam... Outstanding! So great to see a track made only out of a machine! Love these kind of explorations
Not sure the depth concern at 5:30 is warranted, as 60mm is more than enough, even for most Doepfer modules. Most people would never notice 50mm being too shallow even.
Minibrute 2 (2S specifically) is another one I've been tempted by, heh. The "Noir" versions do look cool, too. Great job as always, including on that finale section!
Always enjoy your even-handed analysis. I'm a little surprised here when you said the rackbrute requires shallow modules. I guess it must be objectively true or you wouldn'ta said it, but the 2s + Rackbrute are where I started my modular journey, and I'm like 40 modules in and haven't never found one that didn't fit. In fact compared to the old Pittsburgh Modular thingy and the tiptop mantis I've also got now, i've had fewer "oh crap this won't fit here" moments with it. Anyway, as others have said, the 2s was an amazing place to start me learning what the hell an LFO is, etc.
I came back to this to confirm, I'm thinking about getting one, wholly agree that with an external midi controller (I have the keystep 37) the 2S has a badass sequencer that is more useful to me than a 2 octave keyboard.
Splendid work as always! I would love to see you give a "Tool or Toy", General-MIDI widget sort of treatment to the little Yamaha seq/synths like the QY70. Though most of the commentary I see about them is from their enthusiasts rather than detractors, surely *someone* must think they're Bad Gear.
at first glance of AudioPilz post video editing timeline, it's ticking all the boxes. Massive jumpcuts, low end memes, an abundance of juicy noise and mind boggling buffering features.
I was very curious what you were going to say about this video Professor because I came really close to buying the minibrute 2S.. I might get it in the future.. as always your reviews are extremely fair and nearly unbiased..
Got rid of my Minibrute 2s a couple of years ago with no regret because of its filter and AD instead of the second adsr. Still, for its price it is a pretty amazing peace of gear. At least, it was a good try. And your tracks proove it, awesome as usual! Personally, if i would want a keyboardless and sequencerless version i would actually choose a Neutron by [beep] company.
Different beast than MC-101 ;) I thought about buying MiniBrute 2 - as a companion to my three Craves... but size of a MiniBrute (depth) scares me a little... Good video - as usually. Pleasure to watch.
I like the sound of Arturia's Brute synths and as I predicted, your jams with this one are bangers, especially that last one. Nice video editing on that, too.

Oooh what about old Rack multi fx. Most of them have complete UI nightmares.( great sounds though)
One synth going through them all at once. 😁
I second that post
As an owner of the matrix b, it’s good to see the little brother getting some loves here. I had the same time I felt like I was missing something from the video. More jams!
Sleep is the enemy;)
Nooo 😢 not my beloved❤ minibritek😍🥰
My precious minutebrute😢😢! I will never emotionaly recover from this Herr bad gear florian!
😔😔😔Please forgive me😔😔😔
I'm very happy with my Minibrute 2s. I'm a fan of the tone and physical performance is my favorite on this (on an external midi keyboard and despite having to tune it lol)
Nice!!!
I love Arturia to death and somehow forgot this synth existed.
Yeah, that one didn't sell so well
I want to thank you 🙏 for introducing me to the retro kits RK002. I got one for my kaossilator pro and now have it linked to my circuit tracks!! Great content 👍 keep it up. Cheers 🍻
Thank you so much!!! Love that RetroKits stuff
I was just wondering when we’d get a minibrute2 vid! Thank you!!
😀😀😀
Join us on the modular side!! SOOO much bad gear to talk about in the modular world.... lol
Must! Resist!
@@AudioPilz I’m sure Uli could hook it up ;)
@@AudioPilz I have a strong suspicion you already own a rack of modules, no need to deny it! :D
really interesting and fun!!! 10/10!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you so much!!!
The brute factor makes it sound like a teenage boy whose voice is always cracking... but in a good way. I love how unstable it sounds.
Nice analogy!!!
mini brute 2s is on my roadmap👍🎶 Nice jams to.
Thank you!!!
Yeah, that sound is a love/hate thing
I see no major flaws, but maybe I just like that kind of sound? This would be Not-Bad Gear in my book (if I had a book).
No books here;)
Awesome video.
That's fun.
Thank you!!! Agreed!
I love the 2S so much, but it is absolutely a gateway to modular addiction. You buy one of those and suddenly a Clouds clone shows up at your front door. Truly a blessing and a curse.
Must. Resist.
Currently doing some research on Korg X stuff. Super interesting!
Thank you!!!
I wish this kind of hardware wasn't so expensive here in my country, Brazil. Seems like I'll be enjoying software synths for a while. At least, I hope to have some spare money to start supporting your channel next month. Cheers!
Yeah, I know. Gear prices in Latin America are weird
@@AudioPilz they get price gouging and/or the dealers get them at full price overseas, forcing them to price them higher to sustain their businesses
Behringer supposedly wants their Volca-like "Soul" series to be cheap enough even for Latin Americans.
I bought the Minibrute 2 as my first analog synth over one year ago, no ragrets!
👍
Wie immer super, vor allem die Soundbeispiele..
Danke!!!
Long time fan, first time commenter. Minibrute 2 was my intro to synthesis!
Thanks for watching, stick around!!!
Nice!!! That's quite a challenge tho
Love for the Easter themed intro :)
And the second jam... Outstanding! So great to see a track made only out of a machine! Love these kind of explorations
Thank you so much!!!
Not sure the depth concern at 5:30 is warranted, as 60mm is more than enough, even for most Doepfer modules. Most people would never notice 50mm being too shallow even.
Thanks for the heads up!!! As I'm not a modular expert I just took the information from SOS
Minibrute 2 (2S specifically) is another one I've been tempted by, heh. The "Noir" versions do look cool, too. Great job as always, including on that finale section!
Thank you!!!
My goodnesss man. The music you make here is so nice!
Thank you!!!
Thank you so much!!!
I came back to this to confirm, I'm thinking about getting one, wholly agree that with an external midi controller (I have the keystep 37) the 2S has a badass sequencer that is more useful to me than a 2 octave keyboard.
👍👍👍
Splendid work as always! I would love to see you give a "Tool or Toy", General-MIDI widget sort of treatment to the little Yamaha seq/synths like the QY70. Though most of the commentary I see about them is from their enthusiasts rather than detractors, surely *someone* must think they're Bad Gear.
(I see in the Novation Bass Station episode you have a QY10 and consider it Bad Gear-worthy but it would be a big time investment. No argument here!)
Great idea, thanks!!!
Really do love your videos. Whether you read on a synth I love or not your videos are entertaining and useful
Thank you!!!
Proper LOL at the Nick batt / PWM graphic, nice touch!
Thank you!!!
at first glance of AudioPilz post video editing timeline, it's ticking all the boxes. Massive jumpcuts, low end memes, an abundance of juicy noise and mind boggling buffering features.
That sums it up nicely;) Thank you!!!
Damn these are some of your best jams in a long time!!! This thing goes
Thank you!!!
Great as always, thank you!
Thank you so much!!!
Again stepping through the video frame by frame. The meme at 0.52 is hilarious. You are cracking me up
Thank you!!!
I have one of these MiniBrute 2 keyboards, along with a 6U RackBrute. I love the system, so far, though I do need to spend more time with it.
Nice setup!
Nice! I have always kinda wanted the 2s. There has to be a moment when I tell myself "you do not even remotely need that"
That's a very mature moment;)
Damn no one stand a chance against your vidéos ! you rule, thanks a lot
Thank you so much!!!
wow! amazing tracks that you squeezed out of it ;)
Thank you so much!!!

Best fans in the world❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I was very curious what you were going to say about this video Professor because I came really close to buying the minibrute 2S.. I might get it in the future.. as always your reviews are extremely fair and nearly unbiased..
Thank you!!!
Love that noisy snare/clap in the final jam.
Thank you!!!
I was a fan of the Arturia plugins back in the 2000s! These hardware synths sound great these days.
Loved the plugins too back in the day
Got rid of my Minibrute 2s a couple of years ago with no regret because of its filter and AD instead of the second adsr. Still, for its price it is a pretty amazing peace of gear. At least, it was a good try. And your tracks proove it, awesome as usual! Personally, if i would want a keyboardless and sequencerless version i would actually choose a Neutron by [beep] company.
Beep;)
Neutron can't do supersaws or mix waveforms like Minibrute. MS-1 can, but is missing the supersaws.
Different beast than MC-101 ;)
I thought about buying MiniBrute 2 - as a companion to my three Craves... but size of a MiniBrute (depth) scares me a little...
Good video - as usually. Pleasure to watch.
Thank you!!! Yeah, that thing is a bit chunky
This is my new favorite UA-camr for real! 👊🏾
Thank you so much!!!
I like the sound of Arturia's Brute synths and as I predicted, your jams with this one are bangers, especially that last one. Nice video editing on that, too.
Thank you so much!!!
Besides this being another great episode, i realized, that your right index finger looks like you tried to tune an old organ and bent it - besides that: pure love for your performance(es)
Thanks!!! Yeah, my fingers come in weird shapes;)
Love the demos, mad skills brocephalus
Thank you so much!!!
Could not get a better gift on my birthday! 😄 Great episode! 😊
happy belated birthday;)
@@AudioPilz Thanks a lot! 😊
