While still working for LEGO I pitched a concept model of a LEGO Titanic set to the Creator Expert team!
But I never heard about it ever again until I started hearing the rumours about the set.

Except the cracking down the middle, the screams of the children trapped in third class, the screeching of metal being stretched to the limits of it's strength, the silence of realization that there weren't enough life boats for even half those on board, and the Titanic's silent weeping as she sank to the depths of the watery graveyard we call the Atlantic Ocean to only be discovered a decade before a century had passed and become a mere pile of rust next to three propellers before five centuries can sneak by.

I tried my hand at designing a Titanic model in LDD a while back and they used some incredible techniques I never would've thought of. I only wish the front and rear would've been slightly angled up, but then again that would've required a slight bow to the whole ship to be completely accurate. They decided to make it uniform and sturdy, plus all the extra features totally make up for any minor inaccuracies. Was a huge Titanic geek as a kid, and I definitely want to get this if I have space in the years to come. Hopefully they'll keep it on shelves!

@@TayebMC Considering how similar they were, and that Titanic actually featured improvements to Olympic's layout, it's somewhat safe to say that Titanic was subjectively better than Olympic. Of course, Titanic never got much chance to shine with these improvements. Olympic was refitted to be safer, and some of Titanic's improvements were given to Olympic over the years. Britannic was supposed to be better than both of her earlier sisters, but she also never got the chance to shine as she was pressed into war service.
Fun fact: while Titanic was slightly heavier than Olympic (as in total displacement), the real reason why Titanic was considered larger than Olympic was entirely due to her having more usable interior space.

Which is accurate for the midship section, but I had hoped, at this scale, they might be able to find a more elegant solution for the transition between the midship and the bow/stern portions. I feel it could be an amazing challenge one day to get pieces and work in to convert one of the sets into a HMHS Britannic (for those who don't know it's the younger sister of Titanic Wich had a couple of changes directly influenced by Titanic's sinking and also was mostly white with a Red Cross livery as she was used as WW1 Hospital ship and never saw passenger service since she hit a mine in the Mediterranean in 1916 and sunk remaining the largest passenger ship on the seafloor to this day (she was indeed heavier and lager then her two older Sisters (Titanic was the middle one and Olympic the oldest) maybe Olympic is also interesting to try and convert it to since again some details where different. I have been a LEGO fan since I was old enough to walk and have several Expert Builder sets still complete with boxes. I am on the fence about the new stuff because of the astronomical amount of special parts and general feel like these require far too much instruction and leave nothing to the imagination. The bricks, plates, wheels, gears, etc.. of the old sets could create cars, quads, trucks with suspension and engines but the new stuff is essentially bags of plastic confetti and three giant assembly manuals. Oh, and it's EXPENSIVE!!

    • @diatonicdelirium1743
      @diatonicdelirium1743 2 роки тому

Expensive is not an argument for me as it used to be worse when I was young!
You might want to try out some newer sets anyway because the design language has certainly changed and many more pieces are available, but that is a matter of getting used to and the build results are visually much better than what was ever possible.
For instance, I have the 8880 super car from the fully studded technic era, and it still is a great build... but the end result does look dated. During the 'fusion period' around y2k I bought the barcode truck and 8448 super car, both with a nice mix of beams and lift-arms, and these already look the part while still being proper good technic.
After a bit of life interfering I got back into Lego two years ago and bought the big 'rough terrain crane' 42082 - a revelation. This set is proper good and shows off a slick finished technic model with loads of functions and built in motor.
Long story short: the nostalgia factor for my studded Lego starting from the 70s is still present, but the wealth of new parts and possibilities is fantastic. Now that I have grandchildren I'm already collecting 'the best of' City as well, here too great evolution and truly wonderful sets, despite some of the colour mess and proliferation of small parts.

This may be a strange request, but have you ever thought of creating a video each year with the must-have sets (in your opinion)? I just started with Lego and the Zetros was my first set. However, Lego is expensive, and I find it very hard to chose my next technic set. Or do you have some recommendations?

This set is amazingly detailed and beautiful. This set can be made in Titanic's identical ship, HMS Britannic, since both ships were the same. Except Britannic was a Hospital ship during ww1. With the Britannic there has to be more white pieces, green for the stripe, red for the crosses and nuget for the bottom and baige for the smoke stacks, along with changing the layout of the deck too. So can this be changed into the Britannic being the same as Titanic?

The only thing I don't like is that there isn't any "sheer" to the hull. "Sheer" is that gentle sweep or seeming bow in the hull that gives a ship that graceful look sitting lower in the water midships. I realize it would be difficult to model but a lot of replica ships fail to design it in.

@@julianh9347 This build took me 22 hours across 4 days. There's a point to the different sized and multicoloured pieces, it's psychological. It's meant to keep your brain interested during complex, repetitive, or detailed builds. Your not just looking for black, white, tan, or maroon pieces, but bright standout colours that draw your attention during the build.
It's a clever technique, and totally intentional.

The Titanic model has been ordered for me. Having seen your Video I would add the following missing items.
1: The twin ladders on both the front and rear mast are not added. 2: The connecting wire from the Front funnel to front mast is missing. 3: the front of each funnel had twin ladders going to the black part of the funnels. 4: Both Masts where white in colour, not brown. Otherwise a very good copy of a wonderful ship.
