@TechnicalTortuga There have been source ports for years to play Strife. I believe the "Chocolate" releases are just straight ports of the DOS version to Windows. Some people enjoy the original version of a game since many source ports add new features and fix bugs.
@TechnicalTortuga Hopefully someone will convert some of the source ports like ZDoom to Xbox One. The only limitations would be that it has to be purely 64-bit and use DirectX for rendering.

I used to play this game a lot. When going through an old storage shed where I had stuff, I found my copy recently. It truly is an exceptional game! I love your content!!! Keep up the amazing work!!!
I remember a version of it that JonTron did, if that's worth anything. IIRC, he did it in response to a challenge issued by Grant Kirkhope, and then the Techno Medley version of Grunty's Lair intensified.

I know, because I've been heckling him for it since he had 1K subs. MDK is awesome and all the yunguns need to know.
The third person view in Heretic 2 was an innovation and had some of the most flawlessly designed animations at the time. But considering that the game was completed in 10 months, there were quite a few elements that were not thoroughly play tested. My critique of the third person was as you mentioned, the inconsistency between the crosshair and where your projectile actually hits. This issue becomes worse when you aim for enemies which are quite a distance away. Another issue was the strafing animation. Potentially this game has a lot of things to offer, but they shipped it out too early. Although I think it was a commercial failure because of the sudden switch to the third person view rather than the mentioned issues, which honestly don't take much away from the game.
The "ghost shrine" didn't appear in the single-player game, but grants temporary invisibility and appears in the multiplayer DM maps. Btw, this game had a lively community in the 2000s, with a lot of extra content made, including multiplayer mods and single-player add-ons. It kinda died down after 2010 or so, though... :*(
If I read your name right, you're the guy who designed the Ogle Return of Morcalavin addon. I enjoyed playing that along with Shadow Slayer and a few others. You did a really great job there and truly reminded me of the long lost abstract level design from the 90s. You should try working with indies on one of the retroshooters. I'm quite sure 3d-realms will appreciate your talent.
@@ninelegyak Hope you do get a chance to shine there. Anyway thanks for creating those awesome add-ons and THF. Heretic II was undoubtedly my favorite entry from the Heretic-Hexen franchise and it was the first 3D game I played as a kid along with Wolf-3D. I was deeply saddened to see it not receiving the attention it deserved only thanks to community's presuppositions about how a Heretic game could look like in third person. In fact, even the popular "Siege" mode in multiplayer games started off as a Hexen II multiplayer mod sometime in '98 and this was before the first Team Fortress released
The irony is that even now, Raven are still making games using engines made by Id. Call Of Duty has been running on the Quake 3 engine since it's inception, and all they've ever done is keep adding more graphical effects to it, but it's still the old Quake 3 engine at it's core.
Heretic II's ending is right up there for one of the worst video game endings of all time, leaving the player confused and without a feeling of proper closure. Probably the only other game that tops it, in that regard, is Clive Barker's Jericho. Heretic II is definitely one of those overshadowed gems, though, so thank you for this video.
If you think that this ending is bad enough, look for an ending for Drakan:Order of the flame, where the game suddenly ends without proper closure. Or even worse, The Precursors, where the game literally ends by a phrase: "Don't you want to solve the mystery of the Precursors?". Literally the game trolling you as after this phrase the game ends with credits (and you won't even stop bad guys from doing what they are doing). In Heretic 2 we can at least see Corvus stopping the plague by finishing the spell.
One of the reasons why the game just didn't tick with me compared to the Serpent Riders Trilogy back in the day. You should see Anonymous Agony. That game has an insulting ending.
Well it is very big surprise from you. You swear to the machine spirit you are the most fun to listen when it comes to describe old-school shooters. Also I love the fact that voice acting in the old-ass was better than in modern films. Anyway good job. The best old-school gamers i have seen for a while. And also, Civvie 11, do a Daikatana next. I heard about this atrocity but it would be funny to hear your opinion about THIS game. Or atleast do Blade of Severance.
I tried Daikatana recently with fan-made patched and gave up quickly, and I played a dozen of mediocre, bad or average games in my life, but this? Severance - Blade of Darkness is a masterpiece, not some rolling fest in Souls universe...
Truly one of those games that i would mind if it would get the sequel or full remake. Gore system and fair but hard balance were the brightest sides of that game. And with all respect for Dark Souls but those aspects are the things that DS series did not achieve even in the last game. The closest in fun of hack and slash (or just slash) the enemies to pieces is RUNE but it is more fast paced than SBoD and less tactical which is another very good game i guess.
Rune is the one about a viking, right? It's pretty simple compared to SBoD (and at least seems pretty short), nothing complex like Severance's combos and more restricted movement but it's fun. Another simple 3rd person hack and slash game that I really liked is the first Bloodrayne. It's a little bit different with its abundance of guns (that you drop once they are out of ammo) but your main way of dealing with bad guys should still be close combat. The only problem with recommending it is that the first short tutorial chapter is pretty BORING. But once the player is past it, the game improves significantly, in my opinion. It's just so fun to run around playing a half-vampire killing machine that can actually terrify her enemies. It has a pretty nice dismemberment system too and I like how there are many situations where you find different groups of enemies fighting each other. Also, Bloodrayne 2 improves the graphics, adds more depth to the combat and platforming and manages to screw up by ending up way more boring than the first game. It's still bearable and okay to play with some breaks here and there but way worse than its predecessor. Too many stupid repeating puzzles, the platforming feels somewhat stiff and the enemies are way less fun: in the first game, you have the likes of Nazi soldiers with guns pissing their pants when up against the protagonist and you can understand why, in the second game you often get human punks fearlessly trying to punch a night monster lady with their bare hands after she chopped the rest of their buddies up with her arm blades.
I remember when i first played this, for days even i was like wtf? is this real? and i kept looking at my computer trying to find out if someone had sneaked in in the middle of the night and changed with something good. this game was like.. the future. even if the controls were a bit ass, you could do soo much and it was so smooth when it wasnt crashing xD

Hope you do get a chance to shine there.
Daniel Riordan always makes his voice acting work complement the game, extremely talented and I love his work as Arkantos in age of mythology

TNC sure made things rough. MachineGames really should have ended at TNO+TOB.
I don't get it. Can you explain?
The irony is that even now, Raven are still making games using engines made by Id. Call Of Duty has been running on the Quake 3 engine since it's inception, and all they've ever done is keep adding more graphical effects to it, but it's still the old Quake 3 engine at it's core.
2:15 music is awesome...I really feel like it goes super well with the game. "A relaxing romp through some enemies" is the song title, for sure.
I liked Heretic II when it was released, and I like it until today! I would like to have some more episodes like missions to play!
Congrats on making this game run sucessfully. I tried, with no luck.

I'm so glad GOG has Soldier of Fortune on its store, I couldn't get the CD version to work.
Hearing “This isn’t right. Where is everyone?” took me right the fuck back to my childhood
Whoever did the CC for this, I love you.
My pleasure. Glad to know you like it.
