The HROT demo was one of the most striking demos to burn itself into my brain in the last decade. I just kept playing it over and over. This was before the full release. I'm ashamed of myself for not buying yet, so I'm going to after I finish this vid. It really feels like a classic that came out in the Quake era, and that's unique to modern boomer shooters. It's a shame how the frequency of game releases can completely distract me, causing a gem like this to fall through the cracks. I need a better way to keep track of releases.

This was a fantastic review. It reminded me just how much I love video games. And that's one of the highest praises I can give because I love video games insanely much. I like bright fantastical things a lot more. But what you showed of HROT here does remind me of the love for inspirations and makes me strive to look more into things that I like. Those playfull secrets like the model.train are glorious (and I'll probably steal the recipes as rewards thing). I think I'll end it like this: There's a few books I feel I would REALLY like. So I should get to reading them sometime to find more inspiration on what I do.
Holy shit you have some genuinely insane production value for how undeservedly few subscribers you have, I’d expect something like this from a 5-6 digit channel
I played all of Hrot, beat it, and loved it. I haven't played all of Prodeus. It's not that it's bad, it's that it didn't keep my interest as much as the deep horror of fighting the mutant creatures in the midst of a Slavic country, drinking wine and eating bags of skim milk to get by moment to moment. Getting jumpscared never felt so good.
yea i didnt mean to come off as a prodeus hater or to make the game look bad, i actually enjoyed it enough to finish it. imo it's overrated but admittedly has some pretty good level design towards the end game. despite not being as flashy as a lot of boomer shooters, hrot's too special and full of character to not be considered one of the best in its genre.
Great video, I'll have to watch the other ones you've made ! I had a similar reaction to HROT : no other game made me read Wikipedia articles or hyped me to read a novel (War with the newts looks great) ! Love from France ! edit: You've got a new subscriber
very accurate description of the game and what makes it great. the visual style is grim and dark and dirty making it very immersive without needing high poly and textures by letting the players brain fill in the blanks . its a game that takes itself seriously in a good way as oppose to the colorful arcady modern games we are getting abundantly . take counter strike 1.6 for example it has a similar art direction even tho it main selling point was the tight controls and innovative gameplay. its visuals were able to match the military atmosphere and were equally iconic in marking the culture of that era.
This video actually got a _ton_ of views compared to all his other uploads, and it will most likely get way more in the next few days/weeks, since the algorithm seems to have picked it up.

I like how you tried to capture the feel of what the game wants to showcase. Its love for its inspirations and culture.
Which in turn inspires me to continue making games and showing off the things that I love.
What I put into games is certainly very different than HROT. I like bright fantastical things a lot more.
But what you showed of HROT here does remind me of the love for inspirations and makes me strive to look more into things that I like. Those playfull secrets like the model.train are glorious (and I'll probably steal the recipes as rewards thing).
I think I'll end it like this:
There's a few books I feel I would REALLY like. So I should get to reading them sometime to find more inspiration on what I do.
Holy shit you have some genuinely insane production value for how undeservedly few subscribers you have, I’d expect something like this from a 5-6 digit channel
If it wasn’t for the fact I played Dusk recently before Hrot’s release, I would’ve been all over it.
class editing
Getting jumpscared never felt so good.
yea i didnt mean to come off as a prodeus hater or to make the game look bad, i actually enjoyed it enough to finish it. imo it's overrated but admittedly has some pretty good level design towards the end game. despite not being as flashy as a lot of boomer shooters, hrot's too special and full of character to not be considered one of the best in its genre.
great video man. I absolutly love it❤
algo blessed me w this one
Great video, I'll have to watch the other ones you've made !
I had a similar reaction to HROT : no other game made me read Wikipedia articles or hyped me to read a novel (War with the newts looks great) !
Love from France !

Very good video! One might even say peak. Thanks!
very accurate description of the game and what makes it great. the visual style is grim and dark and dirty making it very immersive without needing high poly and textures by letting the players brain fill in the blanks . its a game that takes itself seriously in a good way as oppose to the colorful arcady modern games we are getting abundantly . take counter strike 1.6 for example it has a similar art direction even tho it main selling point was the tight controls and innovative gameplay. its visuals were able to match the military atmosphere and were equally iconic in marking the culture of that era.
Great vid, cant believe you dont get more views
This video actually got a _ton_ of views compared to all his other uploads, and it will most likely get way more in the next few days/weeks, since the algorithm seems to have picked it up.
holy shit, I actually played that handheld as a child
Dude, nice montage
this is actually the best retro shooter that's come out other than ion fury.
Please please please play DUSK and make a video like this about it. This is amazing. Hope you make more great content like this!
thanks! i’d mayyybee do that with butcher’s creek. ive already played dusk (love it) but idk if a video is really worth it because of how many people that have covered it. also, ive got a couple of other vid ideas id like to get to first whenever i can.
@@Yeij that's understandable! Glad to know you've enjoyed it at least. Imma subscribe so I can see these next videos you got planned. Thanks for the reply and like!
-Why should I even be interested in this game?
-You fight Putin mounted on bear
-Say no more, I'm in. They know my secret desires
I just stood upon your channel and what a great video, BUT most important IS THE GAME LIST at the end. My wallet is going to hate you for this HAHA
I was not expecting the Soundtracks for the Blind shoutout at the beginning.
21:04 Clumsy Kaiju mention 💪
Fun fact, Karl Capek who wrote War With The Newts is the same guy who coined the term "robot" and the whole concept of a robot revolt in his play RUR. Strongly recommend reading both if you can get your hands on them.
