  • Have you struggled with the math when increasing the size of a quilt block? Quilters Newsletter associate editor Gigi Khalsa provide a simple formula to help you do the math when making a quilt block larger than one you may see in a printed pattern or a finished quilt. See how Gigi doubled the size of a quilt block from a quilt published in Quilters Newsletter ... then doubled it again! Also see the pieced quilt back Gigi made for the largest quilt block she made.

Yes, a great lesson in making them larger. Resize may wish to be 'smalle'r. I think you should have discussed both. Especially appropriate for many I would think.

I really enjoyed this. I wish you had demonstrated the rectangle also. Good info.

For those odd sizes (like the 16 inch block they talked about) you can always check and see if you can use a smaller block with sashing between the blocks... it may not work with all patterns but it will with a lot of them! Or add a thin board after joining the blocks...

I am a Bit confused. Where did the 4 come into play here?

Nice video. Do the math from left to right. Not the way you were taught in school (multiply and divide before you add and subtract).
