    This song is a complete ANTHEM! It's a fun song that gets everyone in a better mood. Doesn't matter what you aren't gonna take anymore, it fits everything. The dad was in a few of their videos and his narrative in this one is based from the movie National Lampoon's Animal House that he was in. You REALLY NEED to watch the movie. It is a cult classic 🤘🏻🇬🇧🖤

    Twisted Sister broke big on MTV in 1984 w/ this music video from their 3rd album 'Stay hungry'... Dee Snider (lead vocals) said the music video was based on his own father, who was tough on him as a kid... Actor Mark Metcalf (from the 1978 comedy movie 'Animal House') was cast as the 'dad' who gets tossed around like Wile E. Coyote from the 'Roadrunner' cartoons... Metcalf also played a teacher in the 2nd Twisted Sister video for 'I wanna rock'...
    Unfortunately, the band didn't last past 1987 and broke up... Twisted Sister did reform in 2001 and toured every year until the death of their drummer A.J. Pero in 2015... They did a farewell tour before ending the band for good in 2016.
    The band was formed in New York in the 70's and were part of the glam rock scene... but no one would sign them. They dressed in drag, performed hard rock music and built a huge local following by the late 70's... but went through a few members. Dee Snider (vocals) joined in 1976 and was an instantly recognizable frontman... Jay Jay French (guitar) was the band's founding member since 1973... By 1982, the band featured Mark Mendoza (bass), Eddie Ojeda (guitar) & A.J. Pero (drums).
    Twisted Sister was given an opportunity to record and tour the UK in 1982... they recorded their debut album 'Under the blade', but the label shut down soon after. They signed w/ Atlantic records in 1983 and released "You can't stop rock n' roll" and built a following in Europe... MTV broke them big in 1984 w/ the album 'Stay hungry'... but their fame attracted a new audience that made Twisted Sister a 'pop' phenomenon... Their 1985 album 'Come out and play' was a commercial failure w/ their hardcore fans disillusioned... They released their last studio album 'Love is for suckers' in 1987 before Dee Snider quit the band and ended Twisted Sister.
    Dee Snider tried to start a new band Widowmaker, but no one was interested in the 90's... Thankfully, he was able to start a career as a radio DJ and built himself up as a solo performer.
    More Twisted Sister songs - 'The Price' ... 'I wanna rock' ... "You can't stop rock n' roll" ... 'The kids are back'... 'Stay hungry'... 'Hot love' 🤘🤘🔥🔥

      @@strogaa Widowmaker came out in the 90's when 80's rock was universally hated and ridiculed... Nobody wanted to hear new records by Dee Snider... or Stephen Pearcy's (Ratt) new band Arcade... New albums by Skid Row, Cinderella, Scorpions, L.A. Guns, Dio, Kix... all went into the recycle bins in the 90's.

    • @strogaa
      @strogaa Рік тому

      @@sumonjamal1653 Yeah, that's the problem with the hypes. Labels only care about the promotion of the bands, who fit into the hype... and also people forget about those, who are still here and produce good stuff.

    • @sumonjamal1653
      @sumonjamal1653 Рік тому

      @@strogaa Labels, radio and MTV did have a hand in ceasing promotions of 80's bands, but Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, and Rush did exceptionally well in the 90's... as did Metallica and Megadeth...
      In all honesty, the 90's did bring about a change by the newer rock fans, and u couldn't sell them a new record by Def Leppard or Poison because they despised that sound (They were like, "Hell no! We want Nirvana and Pearl Jam, not that 80's crap...") ... I remember that attitude from people in 1995, and labels were not willing to change that stigma, and I don't think they could...
      Bands like Great White released some great records in the 90's, and they were all ignored... That was tragic to see.

    Twisted Sister was based on Long Island which is just east of New York City. I lived on Long Island so I got to see Twisted Sister when they played a large local rock club in Queens back in the early 1980s. During intermission I actually played pinball with Dee Snider, the singer/writer, and - he won. He was a friendly regular guy.
    I now follow him on Twitter and once and a while we tweet and respond to each other. Small world.

One of the classic lines in Animal House from Neidemier was "A pledge pin, on your UNIFORM!! I saw them in 1983. It was on a school night so there were only about 2500 people there but they played anyways. BTW they were opening up for Iron Maiden. It was needless to say an awesome concert

    Good Luck getting "We're Not Going to Take It" out of your head!!!!!! My friends and I went to a local bar and these guys happened to be there (around 1980 I think, give or take a year or two) they were dressed in pink and we left after a beer or two. (not our type of music then) I did love there later stuff when signed to a major label.

    There were too many parents of the 60's that were like this!!!
    Rock n' Roll, long hair, fashion, civil unrest, Anti Vietnam War protesting was
    considered teen and young adult rebellion!!!
    The Beatles were at the forefront of everything I mentioned and were dominating influences throughout the 60's!!!👍👍👌👌✌✌😃😃

    The father is a character from an American comedy classic. "Douglas C. Neidermier" was such a humongous pr!ck in "Animal House", and he gets his come comeuppance all the time. I've seen this video a million times, I've seen Animal House a million times. That said, wow he's abusive. I'm 55, that kind of abuse was just kind of Tuesday for so many of us back then. My Parents lived through "The Great Depression" and WW2, I'm sure they had their share of trauma that was just suppressed.
    Sorry to take it there, but the look on your face while I was having happy memories kind of kind of punched me right in the guts. It's all good, that character is a real sonofab* no doubt about it, but he just gets abused in the movie as well. It's pretty hardcore slapstick comedy, "Animal House" may be triggering in 2023, let me count the ways:
    - statutory grape
    - University President's Wife is a drunken mess who hooks up with University students
    - Criminal voyeurism
    - Racism
    - Alcohol & drug abuse
    - Rampant misogyny
    - The wrong f'ing way to go to College
    - Virtually everyone in the everyone in the movie is some kind of a-hole
    But at the time it was made, and the time in which it takes place it worked. The Students of Delta House were all avoiding Vietnam and living like their lives could be over soon.
    This was really part of a new movement in American comedy that had slowly started in the 1950's or so. Comedians were being arrested for using foul language. By the time "Animal House" came out, the counter-culture that had protested the Vietnam War and fought for Civil Rights (at a time you might die doing so) were in control of a lot of big companies (Apple for one). Their "gallows humor" was pretty widely accepted, as the the U.S. had recently left Vietnam. A lot of hurt people back then. That generation wasn't buying a lot of the propaganda we learn in school, because they were having more and varying experiences providing them with an alternative viewpoint on some issues.
    Sorry for blathering, context was needed.

    One of the top 3 live bands I've ever seen. Because of the 'image' they didn't get the credit they deserved for the actual musicianship. Remember seeing them in Edinburgh in 1986 and they were absolutely brilliant. Spent 10 years playing the bar circuit in NY and NJ before they were 'discovered' and were tight as hell. Worth catching some of Mark Mendoza, the bass player's, stuff with the Dictators as well.

    Hello again Biss! Glad you listened to Twisted Sisters, I was in my twenties when that song became a hit. A suggestion for another Twisted Sisters song is, "You Can´t Stop Rock 'N´Roll" from 1983. Check it out. Have a nice day. 🙂
