Right on! Yes. That was also Eddie on the keyboard. This is the first track (well, second, but the first one with the vocals)) from their best album of David Lee Roth era, 1984. I recommend listening to the whole album, it's a masterpiece! And how do all their happy and smiling faces in this video conflict with the fact, that by that time they actually had a lot of quarrels and disagreements, especially betveen Eddy VH and David Lee Roth, after which David actually left, and the whole new Van Halen era with Sammy Hagar on vocals began in 1986! And that was quite different, but still Van Halen!
Edward Van Halen (aka Eddie Van Halen) was the iconic rock guitarist of Van Halen... but he was also a keyboard player (He learned to play piano as a kid before he picked up a guitar) ... Van Halen was a party rock band and they were more on the uplifting side of rock music. However, the story behind 'Jump' (which became Van Halen's #1 single in 1984) was a difficult one... Eddie Van Halen wanted to incorporate keyboards into the music he was writing, but lead vocalist David Lee Roth did not like it... He would tell Eddie that 'no one wanted to hear him play keyboards'... Eddie wrote the music for 'Jump' around 1981 and Roth hated it and refused to write lyrics and sing on it. Eddie apparently went to Gene Simmons of Kiss in 1982 and confided in him that Van Halen was likely breaking up because David Lee Roth was driving him crazy w/ his demands... Gene heard the music for 'Jump' and was very impressed; he encouraged Eddie to work it out in Van Halen and persist on recording it... The situation in Van Halen was problematic w/ egos, as well as drug and alcohol abuse in the band. Van Halen were recording the '1984' album and Eddie insisted that 'Jump' (and another keyboard song "I'll wait") be on the album... David Lee Roth was not happy about it, but he apparently wrote 'Jump' about suicide 😲 It sounded like a 'fun' song... but Roth wrote the lyrics about seeing someone who was in a hopeless situation and couldn't find a way out... so, this person got on the ledge of a tall building and was on the verge of taking his own life, and people who saw him would yell, "Jump!" Van Halen's '1984' album was a huge hit on MTV and sold 10 million copies in the US alone... However, Eddie Van Halen was proven right because David Lee Roth split w/ Van Halen around 1985 after the tour - Roth was more interested in a solo EP 'Crazy from the heat' and hoped to make a movie career... Eddie Van Halen had written a new album w/ a lot more keyboards, but Van Halen had no singer, until Sammy Hagar auditioned for the band... He loved the new music and encouraged Eddie Van Halen to play keyboards. The '5150' album in 1986 was the first Van Halen album w/ Sammy Hagar on vocals - it went to #1 on the US charts and sold 6 million copies... while David Lee Roth's solo album ''Eat 'em and smile" in 1986 sold platinum in the US (1 million copies).
The singer, David Lee Roth was a martial artist, he studied Kenjutsu since he was 12, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, and Kenpo karate (which I also studied). That explains his kicks.
Finally a return back to great 80's songs 🙂. Yes, that part is very iconic and it instantly makes the song recognizable. Even though Van Halen is not one of my favorite bands, this particular song and its accompanying music video always bring a smile to my face."
Hi Miss Bisscute !!! Eddie was A Guitar 🎸 Legend !!! He Help Michael Jackson With the Guitar solo in Beat it , but wanted no credit on the Album just a case of Beer & Some Dance lessons from Michael 😀. However you should find His Guitar Solo he Does on Tour it's about 11 minutes long if you Enjoy watching Him play the many Rifts he created over his Lifetime. It would Make A Fantastic reaction video !!! As always the like button 🔘 has been Illuminated 😁👍👍😎🤗
It's one of the best feel good songs of 1984! I can be in the worst mood ever, and I hear this song and I'm dancing and singing all over the house and my troubles are forgotten! ❤❤
I believe the idea here is "Jump" means "why not ask me out - you know. make that leap" from seeing me "standing next to the record machine" and "I'm not the worst that youve seen"
Hello Miss Bisscute Diamond David Lee Roth was the Lead singer here and is well Trained in Martial Arts to his Flexibility !!! Unfortunately he left the Band & was Replaced by Sammy Hager Yes that was Eddie ( Edward Van Halen RIP ) on the Key boards & 🎸 Guitar !!! Unfortunately this Rock Legend was recently lost to cancer !!! He was considered to be one of the Best Guitar players in the world 🌎 & was I believe also classicly trained His Brother Alex is on the Drums.😊
In regards to the lyric "Jump." David Lee Roth- who wrote the lyrics- in an interview states it's about taking a chance & also getting the girl. Also, David Lee Roth, the singer, has trained in martial arts since he was a young kid so that's where you are seeing his flexibility from.
Another Fact is that Edie Van Halen palyed the solo in one of the songs of Michael Jackson´s Thriller album, the song is "Beat it", he performed that solo!!
The story goes that David Lee Roth was opposed to having electric keyboards (which were new at the time) to be used on a Van Halen record. Eddie Van Halen (RIP) was a well trained piano player as a child before he picked up a guitar. VH went with it, and made a fun party song. Play this at a party and everybody does the 'jump!' part. Simple but effective.
For me, 'Jump' was one of my top 3 songs that defined the early 1980's, the other two were "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" by Cyndi Lauper and "I Love Rock N' Roll" by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts. Of course that era gave me a billion other songs and bands that were super famous and never stop making me happy but, those three songs were my top three as symbols of that period, even back then, so it's not even like I settled on those three in retrospect or anything. I had my mind made up about that back when these songs were still brand new.
So nice ur learning more about Van Halen😁😁🎸🎸This song came out 6 years after their debut album 1978 & they had a more polished sound. Now you need to go to the very 1st album & listen to the Raw sound of early Van Halen. Ain't talkin bout love ..or ..Jamies crying. This album dropped Jaws all over the World. Edward Van Halen G.O.A.T. ( RIP ) 🎸🎸👑👑❤❤
Biss this was Eddie Van Halen, God of the guitar, the one who invented tapping and who at the age of 8 went into Jimi Hendrix's dressing room and told him: "You can't play the guitar. You play the guitar badly, I play the guitar properly." R.I.P. God Eddie Van Halen ❤🩹
Fun fact. The singer, David Lee Roth, left music in the 1990s to be an EMT in New York City. There are a handful of stories about him being recognized when his ambulance responded to situations.
Eddie Van Halen also worked with Michael Jackson on some songs, I think it was Beat it and Billie Jean, not sure of that, but something happened, he was one of the greatest Guitar Heros!
This song is motivational, it tells you about how hard life is but enjoy the good things about it. When you have something good, express it by jumping, jump.
The song had an interesting origin. Eddie was pushing for new musical boundaries and wanted to bring in the keyboards which Dave initially objected to reminding Eddie he's a guitar player and warned him not to stretch himself too thin. Eddie didn't back down and JUMP was born. The rest is history. It came full circle a few years later when Dave left the band and Eddie brought in Sammy Hagar who was open to ANYTHING and Van Valen was reborn with a new sound all over again...
Eddie & Geddy - Multi-talented musicians who do double duty in their respective bands (Eddie Van Halen of Van Halen, guitar & keyboards ; Geddy Lee of Rush, bass & keyboards - respectively).
David Lee Roth has a black belt in Karate, so it's not surprising, that he does this moves. By the way, Bisscute wears the same T-shirt, she wore when she did the presentation of Scorpions, Still loving you.
The Van Halen brothers Eddie (guitar/keyboard) and Alex (drums) went 1-2 in a junior piano contest for the State of California. There were 5000 contestants. Pure talent, insert singer and voila! Really, the sum of all parts though, like all the great bands.
That is why the band´s name is Van Halen, the guitarrist and the drummer are brothers, that vocalist is one of three that have palyed in the band, this one is David Lee Roth, maybe, depending on the song you´ve heard is another one, and Eddie Van Halen is recognized as one of the greated guitarrist of all times, Saludos!!
Jump means, jump off a building. Roth has gone on record saying this song was inspired by a news story he saw about a man commiting suicide by jumping off a building.
The song is about a man trying to convince an old girlfriend to sleep with him, jump means to just take a chance and go for it, as in, jump at the chance.
@@nocalsteve From his own lips. Roth remembered a news item from the night before about a suicidal jumper. Roth joked to Larry that an onlooker probably shouted, "Go ahead and jump". The line fitted the music. Roth imagined the jumper thinking, "Yeah, might as well jump." Larry laughed.
@@nocalsteve In 1981, Eddie Van Halen penned the synth line of “Jump,” but his bandmates were sufficiently unimpressed as to opt out of doing anything with it at the time. (Whoops!) A few years later, producer Ted Templeman approached David Lee Roth and asked him to give it a listen, which he did, and he came up with lyrics while reflecting on a news story he’d seen about a man threatening to commit suicide by jumping off a building. Somewhere along the way, however, the song’s lyrics evolved away from the decidedly dark tone inherent in that premise, instead transforming it into more of a paean to love. After writing the lyrics, Eddie said, “We finished all vocals that afternoon and mixed it that evening.” I never said the song was about suicide, I said it was inspired by it. Pay attention to what you're reading next time.
My friend Brendan was a pro kick boxer who went on to be a trainer at "he Jet Center" in the San Fernando Valley in So. Cal. One of his clients was David Lee Roth who told him one day 'I wrote a song for you on our next album, it's called "Jump", it's about how you inspired me to "just go for it, don't be afraid of failing." I loved that. Brendan was a good friend.
If i remember correctly on their hit song Panama David Lee Roth the lead singer even twirls a sword around in the music video. Showing a bit of his swordsmanship. Another great reaction Biss thank you.
Eddie, the greatest guitarist of his generation and arguably a top five all time guitarist, initially learned to play the piano and later, the guitar. Amazingly, he never learned to read music. He learned to play by watching others and being able to mimic note from records he listened to. Further, eddie came up with the music for this song which the studios didn't like because they didn't believe a rock song led by a synthesizer would sell. Eddie convinced david lee roth to write the lyrics and the song ended up as the band's biggest hit at that time.
One of the best bands of all time. Eddie Van Halen was so talented. His guitar solo "Eruption" was epic. Van Halen brings me back to my younger days, whether it was with David Lee Roth or Sammy Hagar as lead singers. So many good songs like "Panama", "Hot for Teacher", "Mean Street", "Running with the Devil", "Ain't Talk About Love", "Unchained", "Atomic Punk", "I'll Wait", "House of Pain", "Poundcake", "Dreams", "Judgement Day", "Good Enough", "Why Can't This Be Love", "Love Walks In", "Right Now", "Runaround", & "When It's Love". Also, the live performance of "One Way to Rock" from their 1989 Tokyo concert has some cool guitar shredding from Eddie and Sammy.
I actually saw Van Halen during this tour in Augusta GA. A buddy who played guitar had tickets and invited me. When they started playing this song, something happened with the synth connection. So Eddie told Alex and Michael to keep vamping while he climbed down into the scaffolding to reconnect a cable. That's a true story. Live music. I played professionally for 22 years, I've seen these things happen.
The Van Halen's lived down the street from me and went to the same high school PHS ... I used to go to the backyard parties when they were still named Mammoth....
Eddy (guitar) and his brother Alex (drums) are/were (R.I.P. Eddy) both classically trained musicians by their father! Incidentally, Eddy played the lead guitar part on Michael Jackson's song Beat It from the Thriller album! David Lee Roth (singer) is so flexible due to his extensive Martial Arts background.
Definitely a first to hear Dave's voice described as "beautiful" but the fun, spirit & energy of the song can have that effect, I suppose. And for almost 40 years, I've been trying to figure out what he's doing with the mic stand on his butt there at the end but it always cracks me up 😂
It's funny how the band members were showing such positive vibes throughout the video. And I'm sure it was they wanted to portray it that way to appeal to the fans! And it worked! But by then I hear Eddie and Dave were at each other's throat and could no longer work together anymore. And with that said, the video of course shows features Eddie showcasing his other talents with with the keyboards! And the fans embraced his talent for it! Miss you Eddie 🙏
You need to and I promise you to check out Yankee Rose- David Lee Roth which is the lead vocals to this song “Jump” but the song Yankee Rose is by him after he split up with Van Halen and went on his own.. It’s a mind blowing video and he absolutely kills it in the video..
Frontman David Lee Roth is into martial arts so that’s why he’s a master frontman! Eddie (on guitar and keyboards) is a musical genius and a master guitarist! Very well known! RIP Eddie Van Halen💜
I love your appreciation of this one that is song that is one of the most iconic of the 80s... The composition is of an orchestral level... Edward Van Halen was one of the most inventive guitarists of the history, but one thing is sure, he was the most happy guy to play guitar ever! He always feels like child, and smiles with no worries in mind! No other guitarist did that way! He first learned guitar and piano, then switch to guitar. Just look the way he places his finger to hit keys vertically: he plays the baroque pipe organ technique... David Lee Roth, the singer, is an accomplished acrobat, and a martial artist: has been practicing kenjutsu since he was a kid, kenpō and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. And yes, his voice is recognizable anytime! Unique! For the note you talk about at 6:19, you can be sure that no other sang has this peculiar chord and sound! The keyboard is a Californian Oberheim, that is, to my sense, the ultimate synthesizer of the 80s... Continue your great work lady!
Fun fact : Alex started to learn guitar and eddie started drums . They swap the instruments . Good for us . Both brothers get classic piano lessons when they were young .
Eddie Van Halen (Guitarist) & his older brother Alex (Drummer) began playing piano at the age of six. Many musicians are multi-instrumentalists. Interestingly, Alex began playing guitar first so Eddie started to play drums when they were kids. Soon after, Alex took up the drums & Eddie switched to guitar & became one of the best Rock 'n' Roll guitarists of all time.
David Lee Roth, not surprisingly based on his moves, was an avid student of Martial Arts since childhood. Van Halen was like a hometown band for us growing up near LA. ❤
When they were young Eddie started on drums and Alex played guitar. In an interview Eddie said he came home one day and Alex was playing his drums. So he grabbed Alex’s guitar. Seems the exchange of instruments worked out fairly well.

Eddie Van Halen was one of the best guitarists to ever live. He was also pretty good on the piano and keyboards. He is sorely missed.
then you must have never heard of Stevie Ray (SRV)
@@mytime007 I suggest you read it again.
comments are filled with thin skinned idiots who take issue with you celebrating an artist for his greatness. @@ClaytonMacleod
Van Halen had many good songs and did some excellent covers of the Kinks "You Really Got Me" & Roy Orbison's "Pretty Woman".
No matter which style is your own you can't remain indifferent to this sound and explosive musical track amazing
Hello Miss Bisscute Diamond David Lee Roth was the Lead singer here and is well Trained in Martial Arts to his Flexibility !!! Unfortunately he left the Band & was Replaced by Sammy Hager
Yes that was Eddie ( Edward Van Halen RIP ) on the Key boards & 🎸 Guitar !!!
I ❤ how you describe Eddie Van Halen as “this wonderful man here”
Yes. Yes he was.
Thank you for pointing out the rhythmic tension :)
That's is true .and Eddie, the great guitar. Also plays the keyboard
This song is just iconic ! 🙏🤘
The album, 1984, was released on December 31, 1983. The song, Jump, was #1 for 5 weeks in 1984. RIP Eddie Van Halen, God bless your soul.
Rest in Peace Eddie - You gave us guitarist´s so much ...............
David Lee Roth the singer was a martial artist. In some of their other videos you wil see him swinging Chinese swords and doing more jumps and kicks.
Saw them live in the 1984 tour. They were amazing. The energy they had was unreal.
Van Halen probably the Biggest Rock group of the 1980s!!!
I love this song energy. It's very high energy, which makes it a good song to listen to, when you are working out at the gym, or going for a run.
Great reaction to Jump one of the best Van Halen albums. David Lee Roth was the perfect front man. Nice video!
Growing up this song was used for my hometown’s NHL hockey team. It’s weird when you know a song this classic since a very young age.
It is indeed one of the most iconic rock songs of the 80s. In fact, it's is one of the most iconic rock songs OF ALL TIME.
Incredibly cool song for driving. Empty highway, and give in.
David Lee Roth is an extremely underrated vocalist
He was a great front man. Super charismatic and energetic.. Yeaahhh.
Greatest song from the album 1984!
Eddie & Geddy - Multi-talented musicians who do double duty in their respective bands (Eddie Van Halen of Van Halen, guitar & keyboards ; Geddy Lee of Rush, bass & keyboards - respectively).
all time classic! ♥
I was born in 89 i grew up on this kind of stuff thanks to my mom and uncles that knew great music
David Lee Roth has a black belt in Karate, so it's not surprising, that he does this moves.
By the way, Bisscute wears the same T-shirt, she wore when she did the presentation of Scorpions, Still loving you.
I saw them in 1980. I was in front of Eddie right up against the stage. It was an excellent concert.
And yes the song is iconic, if you only know ONE Van Halen song, it's probably Jump.
Fun seeing the different costume changes throughout the video.
Seen them once, wish I would have seen them more, awesome cool jam, 🤘😆🤘🎸🎸🥁🎤🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Jump means to just go for it! Dive right in and take a chance before the moment passes you by! Jump!
After writing the lyrics, Eddie said, “We finished all vocals that afternoon and mixed it that evening.”
I never said the song was about suicide, I said it was inspired by it.
This song, video, and entire album was such a visceral part of life in high school in Southern California in the 80's, Class of 1986!
If i remember correctly on their hit song Panama David Lee Roth the lead singer even twirls a sword around in the music video. Showing a bit of his swordsmanship. Another great reaction Biss thank you.
“ I’m trying my best here” made me chuckle 😅
Eddie, the greatest guitarist of his generation and arguably a top five all time guitarist, initially learned to play the piano and later, the guitar. Amazingly, he never learned to read music. He learned to play by watching others and being able to mimic note from records he listened to. Further, eddie came up with the music for this song which the studios didn't like because they didn't believe a rock song led by a synthesizer would sell. Eddie convinced david lee roth to write the lyrics and the song ended up as the band's biggest hit at that time.
I enjoy your reactions. You always seem to make me smile. 🙂
Awesome band with an amazing guitarist indeed! 😊👍
She did check out 'Eruption' a while ago, too 🙂
❤❤❤stay in the 60s and 70s❤❤❤you won’t regret it❤❤❤
I actually saw Van Halen during this tour in Augusta GA.
Watching your sincere reaction was a great fun as well, thank you ❤
The recognizable notes is Eddie Van Halen introducing the electric piano to the Rock scene
Mannn. I miss the ‘80’s. It was a great time.
You need to and I promise you to check out Yankee Rose- David Lee Roth which is the lead vocals to this song “Jump” but the song Yankee Rose is by him after he split up with Van Halen and went on his own.. It’s a mind blowing video and he absolutely kills it in the video..
Edward Van Halen is the W.A. Mozart of rock music. Undisputed genius❤
Frontman David Lee Roth is into martial arts so that’s why he’s a master frontman! Eddie (on guitar and keyboards) is a musical genius and a master guitarist! Very well known! RIP Eddie Van Halen💜
He he he, this is one of the most iconic song of 80s along with Panama which is from them too
I love your appreciation of this one that is song that is one of the most iconic of the 80s...
We alway played this song before we went parachute jumping. Pumping up the energy. Good memories
Fun fact: Eddie van Halen (guitarist) and Alex van Halen (drummer) are brothers. And Eddie was (he died 3 years ago) was guitar genius.
You don't say...🙄
Fun fact : Alex started to learn guitar and eddie started drums . They swap the instruments . Good for us . Both brothers get classic piano lessons when they were young .
So two people named Van Halen didn't just form a band by coincidence?
WOAH no way dude? Something i never knew now im smarter due to you 😂😂
Fun fact Dave Lee Roth is now as bald as a coot😂😂😂
Eddie Van Halen (Guitarist) & his older brother Alex (Drummer) began playing piano at the age of six. Many musicians are multi-instrumentalists. Interestingly, Alex began playing guitar first so Eddie started to play drums when they were kids. Soon after, Alex took up the drums & Eddie switched to guitar & became one of the best Rock 'n' Roll guitarists of all time.
David Lee Roth, not surprisingly based on his moves, was an avid student of Martial Arts since childhood. Van Halen was like a hometown band for us growing up near LA. ❤
R.I.P. Eddie Van Halen, God bless you. Q.E.P.D. Eddie Van Halen, Dios te bendiga.
When they were young Eddie started on drums and Alex played guitar. In an interview Eddie said he came home one day and Alex was playing his drums. So he grabbed Alex’s guitar. Seems the exchange of instruments worked out fairly well.
That's crazy how that led to Eddie being one of the greatest guitarist if not the greatest and Alex had the best and most iconic snare ever imo.
Sometimes *Bisscute* gets her groove on in the chair dance was hoping we got her to do the *David Lee Roth JUMP LOL*
The lead singer was Davd Lee Roth, aka Diamond Dave. One of the greatest frontmen in the history of rock. He gave early Van Halen their personality.
This is my favorite Van Halen song.
