We should all be talking about what a beautiful thing it is for two grown men to say to each other "I love you" and "I'm proud of you". This is masculinity. This is possible today.
I love healthy masculinity. Men can love one another and be platonically affectionate. It doesn't have to mean anything other than the fact that you care about your friend and I'm so tired of only gay men being allowed to be affectionate. Anyways I love John Mulaney and I have so much respect for him and his open adoration of his friends.
I really like how proud John is of his wife's joke, he repeats it, he adds "she said it with love" and then he goes "isn't that a great joke? I had to tell it again!"
lonely moonlight whenever I need some cheering up I google ”John Mulaney talking about his wife” and it always gets my spirits up. : ) (”Steven Colbert talking about his wife” also works, btw).
@@mediocre_violist I know this is a year late but John's wife is a Bitch. All her so called jokes are put downs of him. If you think she was just kidding just look at Bill's face after John told him what his wife said. The look on Bill's face was "Ouch!!!" Remember Bill knows John's wife. I'm sure they met many times and he didn't think it was funny at all. Win or lose John's wife should have been by his side!
@@asap.xrossi8742 HBO’s Barry: A conversation with Bill Hader and John Mulaney :) there's also lots of laughs and it's just a good, wholesome 1hr 33min chat :)
After watching Henry Winkler's interview on ET, all I can think is that Bill was wandering around backstage looking for his friends to celebrate, even if said friend was in the middle of an interview.
I watch this video religiously every day and that tiny conversation with Bill still amazes me. John just comes up with a character and accent on instinct and Hader knows exactly where he's going with it and creates his own character to match, then they talk to each other as those people like they've been playing them for years. It's a fantastic glimpse into what it probably looked like inside John's office at SNL when he and Bill were coming up with people like Stefon. Also the West Bank line still gets me.
That's what genuine friendship looks like. That era in SNL: Hader, Wiig, Armisen, Samberg, Sudeikis, Mulaney & Myers as writers - it was golden because they had a special bond and were close friends in & outside the show. It's heartwarming to see them branch out & succeed in their own paths post SNL.
2:01 Bill Hader looks at John Mulaney with so much pride, like he is so genuinely happy for him! and that silent "holy shit! (we made it!)" at 1:31 awwww I'm in love with their friendship :')
there's a great interview with a bunch of these guys where Bill is like "yea, i'm not into painters- don't like the visual artist stuff"- and you know he's kidding but you also sorta get the feeling that there's something behind it. Probably nothing and unrelated but there is a type- and they tend to be very into themselves. Frankly I get the feeling from what I've read and seen (and not seen of her) that John might have married that type. She certainly lived well off him
You get the feeling their relationship wasn't toxic though- just that they got married young and maybe grew apart. Or at least they have the class to keep their private life to themselves. Not joining your husband when he's nominated for an Emmy bc you dont want to fly is just....in equal parts sad and gross...and deprives him of the right to at least pretend he has a supportive spouse. Don't blame him at all if he was making new friends in some secondary locations
@@GiselleKlara You make a good point. I don’t know why people have made John out to be a doting wife guy who was putting on a facade in some way. If you go back and watch his specials and interviews you’ll realize most of the jokes John told about his wife were just making light of how bossy, controlling, unsupportive and mean she was to him. In hindsight, it was always pretty obvious that their marriage wasn’t great and she was very belittling to him. The way he went about everything was messy but I can’t blame him for wanting out of that marriage.

I mean it’s kind of like what Rdj did with the bit that his wife told him not to write an acceptance speech because he’d loose. Anna was probably actually very busy and it was a genuine joke and unrelated to the divorce

@@sheridan7475 I disagree. It’s a common joke and she may have actually been the one who made it. They seem to have had a type of relationship where they understood what was a joke in his comedy and agreed on jokes about her
It just feels like Bill didn’t get the joke. It was similar to what Robert Downey Jr did saying that his wife told him not to write an acceptance speech because he’d loose. Anna was probably actually busy and John took the opportunity to make a joke. It’s most likely unrelated to their divorce
