      Also, my cat the assistant is almost always in the way when filming at home. He is a camera hog. I have to lock him out of the room sometimes lol.

      I think with the cold we having it will. It's my first winter fishing through and I believe my offshore game will need it.

    love my lowrance carbon 9..they are awesome finders. Have you looked at berley pro for a transducer mount for that specific yak??

      The imaging is really easy to interrupt on them. I did actually. They don't make one for the oldtown. I think I am going to pick up a deck runner bracket and weld it to the metal holder and then the plastic. That should give it more than enough support, I hope.

    Great video buddy. I’ve been eyeing down that unit I need a upgrade for sure.
    Few questions how do you like the mapping, also is that compatible with the live target?

    • @TravisDoesKayakFishing
      @TravisDoesKayakFishing  Рік тому

      Yes, maps were my number one goal. Bulit-in maps are great (C-map Plus) there are free community maps (genesismaps.com) purchase Navionics+ for more, or create your own. Easy to read, follow, and mark.
      Yes on the live target. They call it Active Targeting, but it's the same thing. Cabelas is supposed to put them on sale on Black Friday. My brother is picking up the HDS and expecting 50%+ off.
      Coolest part for me, the sonar recording. I can keep my logs, add waypoints I missed from home while out of the water to the unit. That's awesome IMO.

    Look at Navarre Kayak Fishing. I think he has a scupper hole mount for that transducer.

    • @TravisDoesKayakFishing
      @TravisDoesKayakFishing  Рік тому

      It's the size of the transducer that's the issue. Even if I put it on the scupper plug, it's just too big. I have used some of his products. I currently have his knob to replace the globe. Yak Hobby has really awesome 3D printed parts too.

      @Travis Does Kayak Fishing that's good to know b/c I was looking at the Lowrance. Now I'll research the Garmin or Hummingbird units

      @@bryankaylor2225 Right on. I check about once per month to see if there is anything new out there. Honestly, once I get my kayak trailer next month, it won't matter as much to me. I just tired of messing with it at the ramp and end of the day.

    Have you had an interference issues? I have this same unit with the 3 in 1 and every time i use the downscan my entire screen is full of interference. No trolling motor or any ither electronics on my yak just a pedal drive and transducer is in the water using the scotty mount

      @TravisDoesKayakFishing  5 місяців тому

      No I haven't but I am having an odd issue where my 2D sonar is not working for some reason. Other than that, it's been really clear. Do you have anywhere close that might have a transducer they can try on it? Like a sonar outfitter should have one they can help troubleshoot with.

    Bro how did you get it so clear

    • @TravisDoesKayakFishing
      @TravisDoesKayakFishing  Рік тому +1

      The clarity and the frequency do it for me. I don't trust it to be auto. Select the window for the down scan or side scan and from there you should be able to adjust the surface clarity. 1-2 feet is low 2-4 feet is medium, and 4+ is high clarity. This will remove interference you might see. The frequency I also adjust the based on clarity. If visibility is less than 2 feet, I do 455 and more than that and I do a frequency of 800. I like to scan faster than 2.5 mph per hour. That keeps the imaging from distorting which will cause edges to blur a little.
      I hope that helps with it.

    what if you use the sonar with the 50/200 transducer which is smaller?

    • @TravisDoesKayakFishing
      @TravisDoesKayakFishing  8 місяців тому

      I would lose a lot of the active imaging capabalityes. I will see the image on the active 3-in-1 transducer is top notch. Not HDS level but close.

    Hi! Aside from the touchscreen , what’s your thoughts Vs the Garmin striker 7sv you have? What’s your go to machine now ?

    • @TravisDoesKayakFishing

      I sold the Garmin. I vastly under utilized my Garmin unit because it was my first real sonar unit. I really just couldn't get beyond it not having maps once I started fishing structure instead of just visible cover and banks. Mapping lakes on the Garmin was just too time consuming and never looked right. Image wise, the elite wins out by a little and the features that I can add to the Elite just blow the Garmin away. The newer unit is active target (live-scope) ready, has the maps, an edge in clarity, and features galore, despite the fact that I don't use 90% it's cool to see all the features. I can record my sonar logs and review them when I am ready. That is invaluable for charting a new lake and being able to go back and see what you were doing. Mark the catches on the map, exact spot, so you can then review the depth, structure, was there cover, transitions, any common denominators at all. If you can find what the fish like, you can start putting together pattern based plans. The elite has helped me find more fish and bigger ones more consistently by being able to review my catches after leaving the day.
      The win for Garmin though is in the transducer. It's small enough that you can mount it on the bottom of a pedal drive kayak. Not so with the Elite. The transducer is like 13" long and you only have 11" inch of clearance (my inches might be off one or two but it won't work even if 12 and 10). Garmin's was a nice five or six inches. You had options. If you do want "live-scope" then you also need a second transducer. Simplicity due to lack of newer features goes to Garmin.
