What is really the "best explanation " here? Is funny when people don't understand anything and pretend they've got it. I think this video can be greatly improved
@@JamesJames-jt3tsThat’s the point exactly. I’m trying to learn all I can on this subject to become knowledgeable and this video explained it in a way that made sense to me. If you can do better, post a video instead of tearing down another person’s work.
I fish with my son, not in tournaments, just for memories. I have watched so many videos to try to make my 93SV more than just a map for me and this is BY FAR, the most informative and understandable side imaging video, I have watched..... I am a subscriber now and will be sharing this with all my friends
Super clear explanation and demonstration of side imaging. A must see even if you think you already a decent understanding of what your seeing. Thanks for providing this! 👍👍🎣
The BEST tutorial of understanding sideview i've ever seen!!!THANK YOU!!!!!. Excellent video and explanation. Thanks for taking the time to make this..
Wow! I finally have a better idea of what I'm looking at on the side imaging display. Thank you for taking the time and energy it took to put this video tutorial together. It is by far the best and most informative video I've seen yet. Tight Lines!!!
The sonar measures how far away something is from the sonar is. People seem to accept that but then have some trouble with the ramifications. The side scan is measures how much return you get at a given distance. So what you really see is how obstructed an arc a certain distance from the boat like you said.
Loved the video. I’m new to side imaging and all of the information. I just purchased my first bass boat. I have been going fishing at the lake of the Ozarks. Just having trouble catching fish specifically using my helix 9 at the console as well as a helix 7 at the bow. I will continue to practice as much as I can thank you!!
I have been watching a lot of AWP and this explanation of side scanning sonar really ties it all together nicely…well done sir. Amazing technology and imagery
Been fishing with depth sounders for decades and know that the units display the target distance based on the time the echo takes to get back to the transducer. Side-Imaging confused me until your video reminded me that the whole image is painted based on the direct distance (the straight line of sight) from the transducer to the target. The distance numbers are accurate (relative to the transducer "beam") the its the bottom and the water surface that is "slanted" (again, relative to the transducer). My confusion is that I'm was thinking in terms of my horizontal reference (the water surface) rather than the "slant" distance the depth sounder works in. Yeah, going to draw a bunch of arcs and triangles to help visualize the hypotenuse and base distances. Thanks for the video!
Yep, same concept just change the angles and the shape of the beam from a cone. I’m sure they have the technology now to have the craziest detailed 3D like side image where you can rotate around (like lowrance SS3D, but way better). Eventually it will get to the consumer level and all of this will become a bit dated.
Fantastic job! I hope you continue to produce more. I’m going to take your advice and leave my rods at home so I can concentrate on learning my unit. Garry Swords.
This was one of the best videos I've seen on what fish and structure look like. I live on Chickamauga Lake where we don't know what fish look like on a graph. There aren't any left. Electronics are the only way to go. If you fish likely places where fish should be you're screwed. If you want to catch any you have to go to desolated areas with good electronics. They'll be fish there somewhere and when you find them they won't be scared to strike. Docks no longer hold crappie, they did and would but the fish are gone. I've caught a 30 fish limit under my dock but today 2 or 3 is it. Guys if you have a good lake shut up! When word gets out you'll have 5 to 7 years left. Then every sob with two friends will be raping and pillaging. No one will be a local.
great visuals which helped me greatly with side imaging! I mentally understood this, but to see you carboard cut outs and the description of where the fish would be if maybe 15' away from the boat is helpful.
Seems like a good way to imagine what the side scan is showing you is a series of concentric cylinders centered on the sensor. If the surface line appears at the 20' mark then the surface is directly under you on the edge of the imaginary 20' radius cylinder. If there is solid ground on that 20' marker then it means that point on the bottom is a 20' radius away from the sensor.
I've seen other videos on side imaging and didn't understand the issue of water depth and distance from the center line. Your cardboard display was a great visual tool!! Thanks
Great Video.....Thank you! I just got my kayak...thinking about the lowrance 7 hook reveal ss. With this transducer, will I be able to see to the side and how far to left and right. Does it matter with such a small vessel?? Also, any particular transducer for both lake and saltwater?? Thanks In advance.
Absolute best explanation of side imaging on UA-cam! Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
