    I no longer use duct tape because it is too difficult to remove and leaves a residue of glue behind. I reuse all my containers year to year. This is my 7th year. I have successfully used clear packing tape by going around the circumference twice. It works great!! Once my containers are placed in the garden, I don't move them until reveal day. Your excitement is what we all have experienced the first time and ever year after. It never gets old.

      Frieda, that is PHENOMENAL! I am going to share this tip. What a GREAT idea. I decided this year to use mine over and over so next year I will use the clear tape. Thank you so so much.

    Winter sowing is fun. We started this year. Have grown seeds indoors with natural sunlight for years and never had seeds do this good. We grow them in a closed in breezeway and we are amazed at the difference. Takes less space too. Have fun with it!

      I am the same way isn’t it crazy to have discovered something so amazing? I literally am going to have milk jugs all over everywhere next year. I still don’t think I could put peppers and tomatoes in them, I think they would just get too big but everything else just makes sense to do it this way. What did you have success with in your winter sewing this year? Thank you so much for watching. 🌱

      Some plants we overwatered. Milkjug greenhouses really hold the water. But took duct tape back off and sat them on shelves for sun and drying out the soil, and they are doing okay. Really need to transplant, but it is still to early. Planted tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, zuchinni, marigolds, watermelon, green beans, peas, chard which we never do very good with, and onions from seed that didn't make it. Will do this type of planting again, because of saving space.

    They look great! I wait and transplant my winter sown plants after our last frost date. If the plants are cold hardy you can probably plant them out, but I usually wait. You can plant half and see how they do and wait to plant out the other half so you have a backup in case the first half dont make it. 😊 I would wait to plant out the heat loving plants though.

      Good advice, last year I waited too long to plant my winter sowing cabbages and broccoli, it wasn't a good idea my harvest was poor, they are cool weather crops

      I did the exact same thing except for with shallots. I think I waited too long to transplant those but we will see what happens. The great thing about gardening is it’s all trial and error and you learn as you go. Next year we will know better right?!

    Wow, thats amazing, Kim!👏 You got huge success with your first year winter sowing, congratulations🏆! I also had mind blowing result in my first year (2021) and I waited until last frost date before I transplanted them. You can leave the container just closed (no need to duck tap) if you are planning to keep them outdoor. But if you planning to keep them in greenhouse, then keep the lid open and provide them with water similar to you take care of seedlings in seed tray. Good luck my friend!🤩

      Oh wow that is awesome. Thank you for the encouragement sounds like you had a great success as well. I left them in my greenhouse and move them out daily to acclimate them to outdoors. I am going to fertilize them today and plant them this weekend. I look forward to seeing what you’ve done this year and your winter sewing as well. Have a great day my friend. 🌻

    Your Hello Yellow results make me feel much better about my own. I started them inside 5 or so weeks ago and they grow sooooo slow. I started the orange version of them about 3 weeks ago and they've been growing much faster

    • @thesoutherndaisyllc
      @thesoutherndaisyllc  2 роки тому

      You’ve made me feel better also. Even now I only have 3 little seedlings compared to the other varieties. Must be tough to germinate. I guess we better cherish our ones that did right?

    • @fitztastico
      @fitztastico 2 роки тому

      @@thesoutherndaisyllc They might be incredibly tough to germinate. I bought mine from Seeds Needs on sale and thought I had gotten a junk/old batch because I started with 200+ seeds and only have a handful of seedlings to show for it

    • @thesoutherndaisyllc
      @thesoutherndaisyllc  2 роки тому +1

      @@fitztastico I agree with you I just came down to look at my hello yellow and I actually still just have one seedling of maybe 20 seeds that I planted. Mine were from botanical interest so a different company. So sounds like between the two of us we figured something out and we will certainly have to nurture our very few plants but I bet they will be spectacular.
