FINALLY! NO BS i've watched about 30 videos on home cooking for your dogs (keyword; cooked) and for the LIFE 👏OF 👏 ME👏 I couldn't find a video that I felt I really could trust. You did the work to run the stats, provided an actual PDF 🙏and explained the recipe perfectly! THANK YOU! THANK YOU SO MUCH! #subbed
Thank you for the recipes! Our golden retriever who is 4 years old was over weight and has Addison’s. I started alternating making this recipe and the fish recipe. She is gradually losing weight and is a happy youthful “puppy “ again! I appreciate you sharing your knowledge so we can help our dog lead a happier and healthier life!
Thank you so much for this video. .Ive learned a ton. ❤❤ your adorable too !! Thanks again so much. I love my vet and all the techs - i dont know what Id do without them, i really dont !! Weve had a few emergencies and they were right there for us and aqour dogs and cats..who are our kids....
I'm a new subscriber... I'm so happy I found your channel Ty so much. I lost a dog she had cancer. I'm trying to make healthy dog food for my pup Ty so much for this video. Much love from RI💝
You, MissySue, are absolutely adorable 🥰! Thank you so much for your excellent recipe and demonstrating how to prepare it. I had no idea about the salt/iodine and that pups need it.
I think you should do a cookbook for dog meals. So many recipes on you tube that are not balanced or correct information. It is easy to do a cookbook. Love you for what you are doing.
I lost my Chi 2 weeks ago to bladder cancer. I am now cooking for my 10lb poodle/rat terrier (Rattle) that has IBS and 50lb generic blond dog. I am very interested in doing this right and would definitely buy a cookbook!
Thank you very much for your time, teaching your audience how to feed our lovely dogs and pets. I would like to hear from you as veterinarian, how can make home food for my dog with liver conditions. I appreciate your suggestions.
I bought an instantapot today and cooked his food. Your recipe. How much do I give my 7-pound reindeer chihuahua? Ive been looking at other tubers and what they cook. You're a Vet and that says a lot to me. Thank you.
You are welcome. You can do to dog nutrition alliance and use the dog calorie calculator then look at the calories per ounce and you can figure out how many ounces to feed per day.
@@FarmersMarketFido This is the third week my son and I prepare this recipe and my dogs love it!!!! I started looking for home made dog food because my 12-year-old Golden Retriever stopped eating twice a day. I was feeding them dry food and somehow I suspected his food was not a healthy option. Then I found your video and his vitality has increased, he seems happier, so thank you very much!!! I'm just a little confused about the proportions in the video compared to the pdf. Are you making the amounts shown in the pdf or a smaller portion? Again, thank you so much, I really appreciate your help!
@@laurajurado9339 I made a smaller portion and then resized the recipe to make a 10 day supply. This was a mistake. I realize it is confusing. I'm sorry. I won't make that mistake again.
Thank you sooooo much for this amazing video!! 👏 I've been reading so many recipes and watching so many videos finally your video covers all the important things and you actually tell us step by step everything you need to buy and how to make it and all the proper measurements thank you for this. I really needed to be able to see how it's all done the right way.
Oh my goodness, I've been watching videos on supplements for homemade dog food for over an hour, and right before I saw your video I decided to not do it due to not knowing what the supplements should be, because every video I've watched was SO DIFFERENT! This video had encouraged me to start this tomorrow for my dogs. I knew it wasn't rocket science, but I knew it wasn't as simple as meat and rice. Some of these people doing these videos are total yahoos, and I was getting really discouraged, Thank you for your content, I am subscribing!!!
So thankful I found your channel! I fresh cook. I follow your guidelines already, but I appreciate all your info. I am resharing your video!! Subd and hit that bell and like button.
Thank you so so much for this great recipe!!!❤ Can I tripple the meat content, and can I then tripple the other ingredients including supplements like Zink, omega 3, flaxseed etc? Should I not use rice? Is this why you use oats? I freeze dry beef heart and liver and make a powder .. would that be sufficient?
I just like to have a variety. I cook with rice, quinoa, oats, barley, potatoes…. yes, you can triple the recipe but it’s suggested to travel all ingredients as listed.
Thank you so much for all the details! Some of the so-called "vet approved" recipes I see on UA-cam are frightening. A lot of well meaning owners are doing their dogs great harm. Hope you post more recipes.
Thanks for this tutorial, i can't wait to try it! A friend sent this to me and raves about how much better their dogs health is. I have 2 dogs we adopted, one is a 10 yo, blind Shi tzu who is 10lbs and an 8 yo Shi Tzu mix? who has extreme anxiety and weighs 15 lbs. How much would we give them daily using this recipe? 1 time or 2xs a day? Thanks for your help!
Thank you for the recipe and information. I am starting to cook for my fur babies now I want them to be as healthy as possible and I have been researching so glad I found this video. I have also been researching for an all natural way to prevent fleas/tick I don't want to use all the harsh chemicals that I used previously not realizing the danger of them do you have recommendations for natural prevention
Hi, I have just discovered your channel and I think it's great. I love that you are educating us on dog health and not just making recipes. I am following this recipe but the pdf attachment is for a 50 lb dog and not the same measurements as the one in this video. Maybe I'm missing it but I don't find any other pdf.
Thank you for this video and PDF I will be sending it to my furbabie's vet. She has a sensitive stomach and I know she will do better with a homemade diet. I often add homemade food to her kibble and she gets so excited especially when I make sweet potatoes for her. Tfs, new subbie Kay
Wow! What a detailed recipe. I printed it out and I am very impressed with all the information. The only thing I don’t see is the sodium content. Since I need to keep my dogs sodium low, is there any chance that you can tell me what the sodium content might be ?
This is awesome!!! A few questions, is chix an acceptable substitute for the turkey? We have an almost 3 yr old corgi allergic to turkey,, beef (except beef liver) and allergic to chix livers, hearts and gizzards :( thanks for your help :)
I think if you were to use all dark meat chicken. It would be very similar, but I have not run it through my software program. And chicken livers are definitely not as good as beef liver. Although it sounds like you might not be able to use either. so this would not be the perfect diet. I did just lower the cost of my custom formulation by questionnaire to make these more accessible for everyone.
I don't know if it's already been mentioned but organ meat is very strong and can make your dog sick if they're not used to it. My suggestion is to introduce small amounts gradually to see how our dog copes with it. If all goes well, increase the amount until its a normal portion of food for a meal.
I found some recipes on dogs naturally magazine they are very similar to yours but there was no video and only a very brief description of what to do. Thank you for this amazing video!! My boy cannot have beef or pork or salmon can I use chicken or turkey for this recipe? If so what kind and how much for a 25 pound dog? Can I replace the spinach with Kale or Bok Choy instead? Spinach gives him diarrhea so does sweet potatoe and so does turmeric. Same issue with beef, pork and salmon. He does well with kale and bok Choy. Could I add Shitake Mushroom or broccoli to this recipe with either chicken or turkey? Any other suggestions since we cannot do sweet potatoes. He can also do wild caught Alaskan cod fish would love to see some of those recipes in the future 🤗🤗💕💕 thank you again for all your amazing hard work and vidoes!! You are saving lives with these cooking videos
Changing the ingredients will change the nutrient profile. But yes you can alternate different vegetables. I would not change the protein and expect it to remain “complete and balanced”. I do offer diet formulations via questionnaires. You can find the link on my website keyvetcare.com This might be a good option so you have another balanced recipe with your dogs preferences. Yes I love using broccoli and shitake mushrooms!
@@FarmersMarketFido thank you so much for the information, the link and all the help! You are doing a wonderful job and I truly appreciate you and these video's
FANTASTIC....like everyone else I was all over the place on making food. This is perfect. I noticed or think you said ten 15 mg zinc capsules for the receipes...but in the pdf it says 50 not 15. So I think 50 is probably correct? Thank you from one busy gal to another!
Thanks I have been looking for a break down of the food, its fantastic. I have a diabetic dog with kidney issues, can use this exact recipe or should alter some of the ingredients?
Great suggestion. Honestly a home cooked diet is such an upgrade that any senior dog will benefit. Every dog will vary in their need for calories so you just kind of have to watch their weight and calculate the calories based on your dogs activity.
Hi, thanks for posting this recipe! I've been researching pet foods and read that long term diets high in protein can lead to kidney damage. If I understand the values in this PDF and the study correctly, this diet seems on the higher side for the amount of protein. But maybe I am not reading the values correctly. If not, would you mind explaining how to interpret the values correctly? I know there are a lot of factors that make a recipe healthy, so any more information on how all of these nutrients work together would be great!
Thanks for this video! I’ve been wanting to cook my dogs food for a while, but just too nervous to mess it up! Is there a substitute for the sweet potato? My dogs tummy seems to not like those…
Yesss!!!!! Thank you!!!! I cannot wait to get our kids off kibble. We were going to do raw starting in December as we are getting a freezer. But we can start cooking for now! So excited!! Bogart and Baileys say thank you! Also, definitely interested in a raw diet video! We are looking at titan brand right now. But would like to do our own. We are working with someone who has been doing it for 20 years but doesn’t hurt hearing from a vet 😉 have to get this Lab off kibble, his feet are a mess from allergies.
Yes! That is a really good plan. I personally find it helps the transition. Most dogs do fine going straight to raw but, some end up sick. I’d rather start with home cooked and add in raw gradually to see how they do. That is what I advise my clients to to do after having too many coincidences. My dogs do great with raw or cooked and even get the dreaded kibble from time to time and do fine😬 but, it’s junk food and I treat it like that. The thing is they definitely don’t think kibble is a fun treat. They look at me like 😔🙁😤 we dont want this.

Love this... thank you so much! Can I add other veggies to this recipe like carrots, broccoli, and maybe some fruit like apples, blueberries, bananas?? Appreciate all you do :)
thank you for the appreciation! Yes, You can add all of those things to the diet as treats. The general rule is not more than 10% of the diet should come from treats. Adding in variety is very important in my experience!!
Thank you for responding. I have a question. When my dog needs a bland diet I usually use boiled chicken breast and rice but can I substitute thighs for breast? Thank you again.
We have two one of them is a rescue that ran around town for two years, not being fed regularly. They both LOVE the food we are making. Our Boxer Bull was losing weight, but I had attributed that to my husband not understanding how much to feed them. But shes been throwing up 2-3 times a week. Not during the day, but at night. Several times it looks like she is eating grass, but just as often, not. Should we try to eliminate different things for a week at a time to see if something isn't agreeing with her?
Hello, I am so glad I found your page. I’m getting 8 weeks puppy soon and wanted to start giving him home cooked meal. Some ppl told me I can’t until 6 months, is that true? If so what should I feed him? And if I can give him home cooked meal, how much should I give him per day? Thank you
The caloric requirements and nutritional needs (specifically Ca:Ph ratio) depend on the breed and stage of growth. This does meet standards for "all life stages' but, I would hate to give you specific advice without specific information about your puppy.
@@FarmersMarketFido hello, thank you for your reply. I haven’t gotten my puppy yet since he is almost 7 weeks and weight 3lbs now. I’m getting him in little over a week. I just want the best for him but I’m so confused about how to feed him. He is Cavalier King Charles spaniel.
@@uyanashka6291 I love Cavies! They are the sweetest! They are also prone to heart disease. I would consider a taurine supplement with this recipe then. But, the Ca:Ph is fine for small breed puppies.
@@FarmersMarketFido great, I can do this recipe. How much should I add taurine? Is it added on the food after its cooked? Do I give him each meal or once a day? Thank you so much. I have 2 very gentle girls who are all about snuggles and Cavalier is such an amazing fit in our family 😄
Hi! Will this recipe be fine for a 13 weeks 4lbs Morkie. Or some changes will be needed? It is ok to feed them home cooked meals before the 6months? Thanks! I loved how you had the pdf with all the nutritional facts!
Thank you so much for this. I just started cooking for my dog after months and months of failed foods and frustration. I’ve been worried about a complete balanced meal. My dog gets bored very very fast (Frenchie) and I look so forward to your other recipes!! 2 questions... I don’t have an instapot... can I cook this on the stove or in a crockpot? I also give my pup daily Cosaquin with omega 3s in it, should I skip that part of the recipe?
Yes you can cook it on the stove or in a crockpot too. That is one of the best thing about cooking for dogs. They don’t care about the presentation. You can keep up the Cosaquin. The omegas you give will be that part of the recipe. Thank you for your questions! They help me improve on my next video. I advocate for feeding variety. My Frenchie doesn’t get a chance to get board lol
I have one more question :) you said 300 calories a day for a 10lb dog... could you tell me how much that would be in cups? I have a mixed chihuahua mixed with I think Terrier (rescued ) Riley weighs about 9 lbs and is somewhat active and he is 11 years old THANK YOU SO MUCH! :)
This is the number one question everyone has so I am making a video about it this week! I will be much clearer. But- to answer you quickly. You look at the calories per ounce. Then divide the number of calories your dog needs by that and you get the number of ounces to feed. So 300 kCal/20ckal per ounce=15 ounces which is just short of two cups- its best to weigh it though instead of just using a cup measure.
Yes- food that meets AAFCO and NRC standards for all life stages is actually a good choice for a 5-month-old lab:) Congratulations on starting out on the best foot with your new puppy. I have a podcast too. It's called The Biohack Your Pets podcast and it covers so many topics related to keeping our pets healthy from the start including nutrition. And you're welcome!
Love this! Thank you so much for sharing. I've been making my dog home cooked meals and now I know the extras I need to add to ensure he is getting a well balanced diet. I have a question for you, I looked at your PDF and the for the ingredient quantities, for example the whole eggs, it says 462.98 grams. That would be on average about 8 whole eggs? But I saw in the video you added just 2 eggs? Then with the turkey it says 4 pounds in the PDF but the video added 1 pound. Just wanted to clarify these quantities before I go ahead and follow the recipe. I might have missed something? Thank you again, this is such great info! :)
Yes, I confused a bunch of people by adjusting the PDF for 10 days worth of food. I will not do that again. Each egg is about 50 grams so yes. Your calculation is correct! 8-9 eggs
Hi again! I have another question :) Do you feed this just for your dogs dinner and something different for breakfast? Or do you portion this meal throughout the day? Thanks so much.
@@FarmersMarketFido thank you for making more videos, I just saw the latest one you posted ❤️. I have another question for you please, can I make this recipe for my puppy? He is 6-7 month old and weights 16.6 pounds. I was also reading that puppies need more calcium when they are growing, how many milligrams of calcium carbonate would you add to this wonderful recipe per pound for a beagle puppy? And how much would you feed him? More than 2-3 % of their body weight? Thank you again! I can’t wait to see more videos 😊
@@FarmersMarketFido I apologize I have another question. I am getting ready to make this recipe this weekend and I there is something is not clear to me. Do you add any water to it? I know you added some bone broth but I can’t figure it out in the pdf how much total if I use water. Also, for the one pound turkey, how much sweet potatoes? In the pdf I see 2.31 pounds? Still in the pdf I see 4.63 pounds of turkey ground and in your video you are putting 1 pound. Thank you in advance, I can’t wait to make it. 😍
@@paulademasi Yes, I apologize for the discrepancy. I adjusted the recipe to make 10 days worth but, I only made 2.4 days worth. If you find me on IG @keyvetcare and send me your email I can send you the original recipe. It makes a different number of days depending on the size of your dog of course. Videos on fighting out how much to feed are coming too.
@@paulademasi Its very important to keep the Ca:Ph ratio between 2:1 and 1:1 which this recipe does qualify for that but, beagle puppies (small breed puppies) do better with about 3 mg of calcium per calorie- more than is in this recipe. So you will need 500 - 700 calories a day and 1500-2100 mg Ca
Thank you for this information! I do have a question though. Any type of liver give my elderly dog seizures, so should I substitute the liver for something else here? I would love to hear back from you please?
my dogs have enviroment allgeries and are on prednisone i feed them alittle bit of dry food with home made foods trying to wing them off all but home made dog food,. I cook fresh veggies, fruit rice sweet potatoes salmon oatmeal spinach eggs beans i put a little coconut oil some tummeric, and some other herbs as oregno, peppermint. What other vitiams or neutrients do they need?
This recipe will cover everything you need! Definitely sounds like calcium is lacking and micro minerals like zinc. Organ meats help a lot and are important for dogs.
New subscriber here - great video. I hope my understanding is correct: according to the info provided, a 20 lb. dog would need to eat 2 cups of this food per day. So a 60 lb. dog would need 6 cups per day? Is that right? Please and thanks!
You said to wait until the food has cooled down to add the fish and cod liver oils- if I’m making the food ahead of time and freezing it, should I wait until it’s thawed and warmed up to add them?
Hello, love your videos - quick question...I downloaded the PDF and the measurements are completely different from the video. It says to use 2.31 pounds or 37.04 ounces of oatmeal. First I want to make sure the math is correct. 16 ounces = 1 pound so 16 ounces *2.31 pounds would = 36.96 ounces...am I wrong? All the numbers in ounces seem to be off by a little. Second question do I really want to use 2.31 pounds of oats in the recipe and 2.31 pounds of sweet potato? Seems like a lot to me. The PDF makes 18.77 pounds is that correct? Thank you in advance for taking the time to answer my questions. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. It is certainly one of the better ones out there! Look forward to your reply.
Thank you for your video! I have looked in Amazon for the Carlson cod liver oil and could not find the 400 mg that you mentioned and I just checked the information box in your video for the links you said you were adding and could not find any, could you please help me with that? Thank you again
Very simple grind it like coffee beans but I crush mine for my girl like powder with my own fingers and hands after boiling and peeling the eggs n yes you can use spinach broccoli and for lactating momma dogs half apricot and juice All stirred in tho My girl likes eating one or to four halves right outta my hand while I'm cooking up All her foods
Boiling chicken legs without salt till fully cooked and sticking one way in and under All her mixed food in her bowl makes for an excited treat surprise in her bowl she loves it and you as well can use the chicken back and wings and thighs but be sure you remove all splinter type bones and you're good to go add a couple tea spoons reduced fat peanut butter in it too they like the various surprises each dish good for extra protein they need homoney beans pinto and black beans as well organic chilie all good you can use goats milk or a little coconut milk pumpkin or a spoon of canned pumpkin well blended in if you need more fiber to tighten up stools a little corn flakes is good mixed in and gives a little crunch you can add half bowl or a cup of good quality kibbles to it and a good quality doggie biscuit or cinnamon and sugar ( lightly sugared cookies for snacks.
I've been cooking for my 2 Pitty rescues. One has horrible yeast issues. I have noticed much less body odor since I started cooking. Problem is when I use rice, or old fashioned oatmeal the odor returns. Any suggestions for a different carb? I do use kidney beans, butternut squash, green beans, spinach, turkey, eggs (with shells) pumpkin, blueberries, or a chopped apple. Sometimes a lg sweet potato. She has also stopped itching as much.
Great job with your observation. Some/many dogs do much better with neatly no carbs. Raw is usually a better approach for these dogs. Carbohydrates are not a necessary nutrient for dogs at all. But they are cheaper and so yes pumpkin butternut squash and other vegetables are great additions because they have a variety of nutrients that help balance the diet and heal the body.
I adjusted for ease of meal prepping. This is just an easy amount to make for video and the PDF is 10 days. I should not have done that I'm sorry. it won't happen again.
@@FarmersMarketFido i love the 10 day version also, avoids me having to double up math, So pdf is correct even with spinach My dogs allergies to kibble microorganisms took 5 years to diagnose, your recipes and dr beckers have helped A LOT
I love what you are doing here. The only thing I would ask is or you to slow your speech down a bit, some things I missed because you spoke too quickly. Especially the pouch you added at the end, I don't know what that was.
Hi Jessica, I have some questions: 1)Do you have a recipe version with cups & teaspoons measures? My food scale doesn't go down to 0.08 oz. 2) how much does this recipe make and how much do I feed based on weight? not sure how to convert the feeding schedule by calories into cups/oz. Thanks for the recipe! I look forward to seeing more.
I do not have it worked out in that way at this time. I a,m working on simplifying it though. I realize that ounces and grams are confusing for many people. I also have a video on calculations on the list. Is your food scale digital?
@@FarmersMarketFido I can set mine to ounces, fluid ounces and grams And I see on the PDF that there are 32calories per ounce so my 10 pound dog would need a little less than 10 ounces Correct or am I way off
Hello, thanks for the video!! My beagle gets food poison a lot, she barely eats her kibble so I started cooking for her and she eats all of it and is very healthy now but Im scared of adding salt or Beef/chicken broth since it has way too much sodium, so it is ok to add some?
yes, they actually need some sodium just like we do. It is very difficult for a dog to get salt toxicity. It typically happens if they eat home make play dough or here in Florida - drink way too much ocean water.
Hello, I have a couple questions. Will this recipe work for a 9 month old 5 lb chihuahua minpin mix? Also, can I use reptile calcium instead of ground eggs? Thank you.
That is a great question. I have not looked into reptile calcium. You could use calcium carbonate. But, you can not use calcium phosphate or bone meal because those would offset the calcium: phosphorus ratio. As for a puppy. That is my next video. How to make homemade puppy food.
Hiiii! I've been a raw feeder for the past 6 years. My whole crew (American Bully, English Bulldog and Frenchies) are all fed a complete raw diet... but my pup (who is 4 months) has decided that he no longer wants any raw meals. He refuses to eat his "regular" raw food, but will gladly eat up treats. Since we're crate & potty training him, cutting out the treats isn't easy for us to do. I've been looking into cooking fresh meals. We're in Hawaii, so it's not easy to get hearts, liver, etc. What would I be able to use in place of beef hearts, if I can't find any? Also, would giving a calcium granule be enough instead of giving the grounded up egg shells? Do the oats cause any itchiness? Also, what would be the feeding amount according to pounds & age? Thank you very much for your time!
I recently made a puppy food video that will work cooked or raw. I also made a recipe to teach how to figure out how much to feed. And you can use calcium carbonate powder.
We were able to keep my Lucky Dog who was a golden retriever almost 15 years by doing home made food but we started when he was 10 year with 4 fatty tumors and he already had pancreatitis. My 12 year old golden has been on homemade since 8 years. Your recipe is better than mine. I will try your recipe and keep my sweet Muffin who is now a 12 year old golden “youthful” golden doodle. My question is how did you know your dog was allergic to chicken ? My 12 year old get sick sometimes. I think my old recipe was too high in protein.
I would love too! I keep trying to get my friends husbands who hunt to bring home the organs and the scraps for me. Or find a reliable source but, no luck yet.
You can use the directions on the label for the Nordic Naturals pet Omega 3 and the cod liver oil is dependent on the weight. It is providing Vitamin D and it is very important to be pretty specific with this one nutrient. I will make a video about Vit D specifically.
Yes, I will add links now and my dog is 50 pounds. The PDF recipe is based on her size and does have feeding instructions for a 50-pound dog. But, I will be making a video on caloric needs very soon. I'm just launching a course right now covering all the basics on how to make complete and balanced meals at home for your dog. From that, I will take out the most requested topics to share here as well. The course will just be more comprehensive and easier to access all the information.
How much cod liver oil do you give? I haven't been able to find instructions for pets, my dog is 12lbs. Also, I know this is Farmer's Market 'Fido' - but do you have recipes for homecooked cat food?
I probably will do cats in the future too. As for the cod liver oil? As long as you follow the recipe and just feed the appropriate amount for your dog then you will be giving the right amount of cod liver oil too. I just released a new video all about how to figure out how much to feed your dog based on weight and activity level.
Sure, and you can also use the website balanceit.com if you want a custom supplement powder made for a recipe you creat with the ingredients you can get. I try my best to use all whole food sources of nutrients. But, it isn’t always possible.
I have a 13 yr old 10lb yorkie with a history of pancreatitis. I want to cook her bland low fat homemade food, but also need it to be complete and balanced. I would really appreciate a lesson on how to good a complete and balanced homemade food for her and her special needs. ♥️
With all due respect ..did you double check before you responded. Not only is this common knowledge amongst raw feeders but even your statement about how cows move faster/more frequently than chickens is false. Chickens are constantly vigorously scratching at the ground, pecking, moving literally nonstop. Cows slowly walk as they gently graze and take several naps a day. Chicken heart has 112.5mg Beef heart has 65.2 mg I think it’s great that you’re promoting fresh food but maybe double check your facts. This honestly isn’t a huge deal since dogs produce taurine but if cat owners start thinking beef heart is a better choice than chicken heart than imagine the consequences.
I was doing the raw diet for my two doodles, I was just told by my vet that it is not safe and I need to cook their food if I wasn’t willing to go back to commercial kibble. So I started cooking it and it’s pretty much everything you are using as well. But I heard you say that you give them the gizzards raw as a treat? Is this ok, my vet said nothing raw and she doesn’t even want me giving them bones. I’ve been told so many different things, I’m confused. Is it safe to give them the gizzards raw? Also, are the measurements the same if it’s cooked vs raw?
Hi! It is very confusing. Most vets do not like raw. There is a risk of food borne illness but, I feel the benefits outweigh the risk. This is a very long discussion however. Human food sold in grocery stores is allowed to have some Salmonella in it. I have use raw turkey necks as treats with no issues for a long time. Pre-made raw foods from reputable companies are regulated by the USDA very closely and have zero tolerance salmonella. I plan to make more videos discussing this in the future. I hope this helps.
Do I need a pressure cooker to make this, if not, how do I do it? Also, for the zinc, can I add salmon oil instead of the supplement? If so, how much? Thank you!
Thank you for sharing! I am finding it hard to find animal hearts. Liver is even hard to find at big grocery stores. I was able to find some at WholeFoods. Where can I find these ingredients at?
I bet you can order them frozen online. I also frequent my local farmer's market. Maybe a local butcher? or even a local farm directly. In my area we have one that delivers.
Is this receipt still good for puppies. I have a 6mo old pitbull, and I am new to cooking for him. Also you mentioned cod liver oil, is that the dog version or human version, and how much do I give , he weights approximately 45lbs. Thanks 😊

I'm a new subscriber... I'm so happy I found your channel Ty so much. I lost a dog she had cancer. I'm trying to make healthy dog food for my pup Ty so much for this video. Much love from RI💝
I am so sorry for your loss. It is all too common!
You, MissySue, are absolutely adorable 🥰! Thank you so much for your excellent recipe and demonstrating how to prepare it. I had no idea about the salt/iodine and that pups need it.
Thank you:)
I think you should do a cookbook for dog meals. So many recipes on you tube that are not balanced or correct information. It is easy to do a cookbook. Love you for what you are doing.
I think I should too! I definitely will. Im just so busy tight now with my new job and kids.
Specific ailments are definitely on my list of videos to make.
Wow! This is awesome! Loved this! Can't wait to try this out!
Thank you! I’d love to hear how your pups like it:-)
THANK YOU!! I’ve been trying to find balanced and healthy dog food recipes. Do you have more?!? Or suggestions?
Love these dog food cooking videos from start to finish. Hope to see more with different ingredients.
Thank you!!
Thank you for doing a concise and easy explanation of exactly what my pup needs to be healthy. Love your style!
It’s my pleasure!! What is your pup’s name? Age? Breed?
Wow! You're right, if you can do it, I can do it! Thank you so much, I'll cook it tonight!
My pleasure!
Don't worry, just could you please tell me what the right proportions are? I really appreciate what you do!
My pleasure! Thank you for your gratitude!
So based on this recipe how many cups of food do you feed your 50lb fido a day?
Oh my goodness, I've been watching videos on supplements for homemade dog food for over an hour, and right before I saw your video I decided to not do it due to not knowing what the supplements should be, because every video I've watched was SO DIFFERENT! This video had encouraged me to start this tomorrow for my dogs. I knew it wasn't rocket science, but I knew it wasn't as simple as meat and rice. Some of these people doing these videos are total yahoos, and I was getting really discouraged, Thank you for your content, I am subscribing!!!
Yay! Im so glad to hear this. And this is exactly why I started this channel!
Thank you for this information. Have you got anything special for dogs with elevated liver enzymes? Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated
So thankful I found your channel! I fresh cook. I follow your guidelines already, but I appreciate all your info. I am resharing your video!! Subd and hit that bell and like button.
Yay! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for this recipe I wanted ask about giving this to an 8 week old Rottweiler
You can but, how big were his parents. Very large breed dogs need a slightly different ca:ph ratio.
Love so much. What can use instead of the eggs. My dog is allergic to chicken eggs. Duck eggs seem to be a bit too rich for her GI.
Yes, each dog is different. I have one with a very tricky stomach too. I will continue to add more recipes as often as possible.
I have a senior dog, golden retriever. How do I do this so he doesn’t get diarrhea? Thank you for sharing. I truly appreciate it.
I suggest starting with 50/50 for 3 days if they have a sensitive stomach
Thank you so much for all the details! Some of the so-called "vet approved" recipes I see on UA-cam are frightening. A lot of well meaning owners are doing their dogs great harm. Hope you post more recipes.
Thank you! I will, I promise. Very soon.
Your awesome, thank you!
Awe. thank you!
Great video, I have a 9kg pug how much of this food should she eats a day?
I made a video just for this:) But, the quick answer is go to dognutritionalliance and use their calculator for calories:) then feed based on that
Thank you for this video and PDF I will be sending it to my furbabie's vet. She has a sensitive stomach and I know she will do better with a homemade diet. I often add homemade food to her kibble and she gets so excited especially when I make sweet potatoes for her. Tfs, new subbie Kay
Hi Kay! You are welcome!
Wow! What a detailed recipe. I printed it out and I am very impressed with all the information. The only thing I don’t see is the sodium content. Since I need to keep my dogs sodium low, is there any chance that you can tell me what the sodium content might be ?
Sodium is on there. It might be written as Na+
This is great! A friend of mine dog just was diagnosed with diabetes. Any advice on changes to this recipe for a diabetic dog?
That dog probably needs a personalized diet plan.
Every dog is a little bit different. But with the small amount it should not cause any issues.
I give my dogs freeze dried beef liver as a treat. It’s just pure beef liver with no other ingredients. I buy it at Costco. They absolutely love it.
You can find the link on my website keyvetcare.com
This might be a good option so you have another balanced recipe with your dogs preferences.
Im sorry i do not explain the zinc well. I am going to make a video just on that.
Thanks I have been looking for a break down of the food, its fantastic. I have a diabetic dog with kidney issues, can use this exact recipe or should alter some of the ingredients?
For dogs with health issues I do recommend having a diet specifically formulated for them.
Thank you for this! Can you make one for senior dogs?
Great suggestion. Honestly a home cooked diet is such an upgrade that any senior dog will benefit. Every dog will vary in their need for calories so you just kind of have to watch their weight and calculate the calories based on your dogs activity.
Gracias Doctora muchas bendiciones
De nada💞
Hi, thanks for posting this recipe! I've been researching pet foods and read that long term diets high in protein can lead to kidney damage. If I understand the values in this PDF and the study correctly, this diet seems on the higher side for the amount of protein. But maybe I am not reading the values correctly. If not, would you mind explaining how to interpret the values correctly? I know there are a lot of factors that make a recipe healthy, so any more information on how all of these nutrients work together would be great!
That is not true. Dogs have zero requirement for carbohydrates. Yes, they can eat them! But, high protein diets do not cause kidney failure.
Thanks for this video! I’ve been wanting to cook my dogs food for a while, but just too nervous to mess it up! Is there a substitute for the sweet potato? My dogs tummy seems to not like those…
Yessssss ❤️ going to make this!
Awesome!

Thanks for this great video. Can I use it for a 3 month old puppy?
No, this would be best for a dog who is 10 months or older. I do have a recipe for puppies available here as well.
Thank you for making this video! Looking at the recipe is not very clear tho. Is 4.63lbs a 5lb pack of ground Turkey drained? What about 1lb eggs?
Each egg is about 50grams
Thanks for an awesome video. For the iodine you use iodized salt. Is that ok? I read a lot about how salt is bad for dogs.
Too much is bad but, some is needed actually
Love this... thank you so much! Can I add other veggies to this recipe like carrots, broccoli, and maybe some fruit like apples, blueberries, bananas?? Appreciate all you do :)
thank you for the appreciation! Yes, You can add all of those things to the diet as treats. The general rule is not more than 10% of the diet should come from treats. Adding in variety is very important in my experience!!
Where is the pdf?
Sorry, too much to unpack here. She needs an in person work up
Thanks for the recipe
you are so welcome
What are your thoughts on green lipped mussel powder instead of fish oil
I don’t think it’s instead of but, I’m addition to for joint support 🤩
Hi! Will this recipe be fine for a 13 weeks 4lbs Morkie. Or some changes will be needed? It is ok to feed them home cooked meals before the 6months? Thanks! I loved how you had the pdf with all the nutritional facts!
Small breed growing puppies need more calcium than this.
Can I use this recipe for my 5 month old chocolate lab? Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. 🙏
8-9 eggs
Does the ocalic acid that forms from cooking spinach bother the dogs like it does humans? Is it okay to replace spinach with collards or kale?
@@FarmersMarketFido Ohhhhh! Thank you for explaining it's for 10 DAYS worth of food! And thank you for sharing your knowledge. :)
What do you recommend for chewable vitamins for dogs?
It’s unnecessary as long as the diet is balanced and complete and honestly, if it’s not, it’s probably not gonna be the way to make it so
I have 3 morkies and a Yorkie, they all range from 3lbs to 7lbs 2 are adults and 2 are puppies. Can I feed all 4 this recipe? Thank you in advance!
Yes, you can:) Just feed based on the calories they need.
@@FarmersMarketFido Thank you so much! Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, but how can I find the out the calories they need?
Hi again! I have another question :) Do you feed this just for your dogs dinner and something different for breakfast? Or do you portion this meal throughout the day? Thanks so much.
I tend to feed one recipe for a few weeks then mix it up.
Hi! Thank you for sharing this recipe. Can I use a crock-pot and cook your recipe with the low cook setting? Thank you in advance
You are welcome! Yes, I would say about 4 hours on low. Just make sure the veggies and potatoes are cooked through.
What is your opinion of giving a multivitamin when feeding a homemade diet?
It depends. This would be a good video topic because it’s complicated
Thank you for this information! I do have a question though. Any type of liver give my elderly dog seizures, so should I substitute the liver for something else here? I would love to hear back from you please?
I would not be able to just substitute like that but, in the case of special needs I would have a diet made just for your dog.
my dogs have enviroment allgeries and are on prednisone i feed them alittle bit of dry food with home made foods trying to wing them off all but home made dog food,.
I like to mix it up honestly but, yes they have different properties. Some dogs do better with one or the other. Both have benefits if tolerated well.
We have 2 Frenchies what would you recommended feeding cooked or raw?
It depends on so many other thingS:-)
You said to wait until the food has cooled down to add the fish and cod liver oils- if I’m making the food ahead of time and freezing it, should I wait until it’s thawed and warmed up to add them?
nope, the oil can freeze. It just shouldn't be cooked. I warm up the food with some warm water or just feed it room temp.
Can this be done in a crockpot? Thank you so much for sharing!
Yes
Did you get clarity on this? I sent a similar message…I’ve got to be missing something if it makes sense to everyone else 🤷♀️
@@1amandadale no I just looked at other recipes and made adjustments.
Thank you for your video! I have looked in Amazon for the Carlson cod liver oil and could not find the 400 mg that you mentioned and I just checked the information box in your video for the links you said you were adding and could not find any, could you please help me with that? Thank you again
Sorry that I’m just seeing this! That is very strange. I think it’s 400 international units not milligrams that could be the issue
I love this! Going to try this recipe. How do you make your egg shell powder?
Probably similar to @15:09
I rinse the shells, then let them dry on the counter and use the coffee grinder to make the powder after they are really dry.
Thank you!
Did anyone ever clarify measurements on pdf? She says one cup oats but recipe days 2 pounds
I adjusted for ease of meal prepping. This is just an easy amount to make for video and the PDF is 10 days. I should not have done that I'm sorry. it won't happen again.

Yay, I finally finished the video explaining how to calculate how much to feed each size dog. It's up now:)
I love what you are doing here. The only thing I would ask is or you to slow your speech down a bit, some things I missed because you spoke too quickly. Especially the pouch you added at the end, I don't know what that was.
Yea, it's hard. Sometimes I get nervous on camera still and some people have asked me to "get to the point" lol
Thats what the rewind button is for LOL
Yes! Please do a raw recipe!! / more recipes! We love these videos

@@FarmersMarketFido thank you for that information. I will keep an eye out for that video.

Bone meal
Greetings from Ireland 😄☘️
Cheers Pug s great to have you here!
Is any kind of fruit safe and beneficial? I don't see fruit added to any recipe.
You can add blueberries or cranberries
Blueberries are amazing for dogs! Some pineapple can also help digest protein. Just start small.
What is the ingredient in the blue plastic tube?
I would love too! I keep trying to get my friends husbands who hunt to bring home the organs and the scraps for me. Or find a reliable source but, no luck yet.
Please can you give me a food recepte for a Adison and diabetic doggie ( Boston Terrier )
That is a tricky one. Im so sorry to hear they have that combination of issues!
Are the Zinc, Omega & Cod liver oils made specifically for pets or can we use human supplements? Thanks
Both, I am using mostly human supplements in these recipes
How many of the Nordic Naturals and how much of the cod liver oil did you add? I had troubles with the PDF, sorry.
You can use the directions on the label for the Nordic Naturals pet Omega 3 and the cod liver oil is dependent on the weight. It is providing Vitamin D and it is very important to be pretty specific with this one nutrient. I will make a video about Vit D specifically.
How much do your dogs weigh and hh do you give them. Also can you put links in for the oils
@@FarmersMarketFido is your course out yet?
how much pumpkin to stir in at end? I don't see it on the PDF (or am I missing it) ;)
How much cod liver oil do you give? I haven't been able to find instructions for pets, my dog is 12lbs. Also, I know this is Farmer's Market 'Fido' - but do you have recipes for homecooked cat food?
I probably will do cats in the future too. As for the cod liver oil? As long as you follow the recipe and just feed the appropriate amount for your dog then you will be giving the right amount of cod liver oil too. I just released a new video all about how to figure out how much to feed your dog based on weight and activity level.
Hi, are you able to use Taurine powder in replacement of the hearts some weeks?
Sure, and you can also use the website balanceit.com if you want a custom supplement powder made for a recipe you creat with the ingredients you can get. I try my best to use all whole food sources of nutrients. But, it isn’t always possible.
I have a 13 yr old 10lb yorkie with a history of pancreatitis. I want to cook her bland low fat homemade food, but also need it to be complete and balanced. I would really appreciate a lesson on how to good a complete and balanced homemade food for her and her special needs. ♥️
That is a good video suggestion as this is very common. The fish recipe would be better than this one for now:)
My research indicates that chicken hearts are far higher in taurine than any ruminant animal.
This is not what I have found.
Chicken heart has 112.5mg
Beef heart has 65.2 mg
I think it’s great that you’re promoting fresh food but maybe double check your facts.
This is great! Did you use human zinc supplements? Or dog specific?
Just getting confused here. I see the PDF says 50 mg tabs of zinc Video uses 15 mg tabs. Is there a mg/ recipe instead? Thx
Human zinc, and thank you and Im sorry the zinc is kinda confusing
hey! I’m getting a puppy soon and I was wondering if I could feed my puppy this? If so how much?
Puppy video coming soo:)
Yes, need a puppy video!
Do I need a pressure cooker to make this, if not, how do I do it? Also, for the zinc, can I add salmon oil instead of the supplement? If so, how much? Thank you!
Salmon oil does not have zinc. And no, you can just cook it in a pot too.
Thanks 😊
Yes, the calcium/phosphorus ratio is appropriate for a six month old pitty:-)
