So I'm learning how to cook my dogs food. I've considered getting this JUST FOR DOGS. Are you confident that these products are not synthetic? Or come from China? That's my biggest concern. Unfortunately we lost our Golden Labrador, Shelby on Sunday due to cancer. I'm learning that there is so much toxic stuff in kibble & I feel horrible as a pet mom. I've been feeding them that crap for years. I definitely want to have my pups with us as long as we can.
I found this video very helpful thanks, and my baby girl loves chicken and she also loves cheese I'm not sure if cheese is healthy for her so I give her tiny bites on occasion but she loves it and will do just about anything for cheese 🧀
My 12 pound rescue terrier just diagnosed with beginning renal disease at age 10. She is an avid exerciser who values her sleep. I feed her a vegetarian kibble, soaked in her homemade vegetable mash, as she has no teeth. Poor care from previous owners. Just added plain scrambled egg and some cooked apple (tablespoon of each) today . She knocked the dish over to get every morsel. She eats 3 times daily. Seems like a large amount, but there is a lot of vegetable water (soup). I still have shells from our morning eggs and appreciated the calcium tip. I would like more recipe suggestions as she has a beginning problem that I would like to mitigate. Thanks again. Jeannie
@@joseyjogirl My heart goes out to you loosing Shelbv. I recently lost my precious Toby to cancer, and have had the same guilty feelings. I now have a little pound dog who came with a boatload of problems, but we're coping and I'm making her homecooked food. I wish you the best and hope you've found a great furbaby to love. Elyse
Thank you so so much. Its a miracle, when I feed her this. She eats every bite and does not beg for food anymore. Shes instantly satified. Its amazing...I think because she finally got a dog food geared for nutritional needs and when yheyre met. Shes a calm dog that does not beg inbetween meals🤯 I was shocked. Shes a teeny teacup chihuahua..and her needs are finally met. Thank you so much. I have referred alot of peoplr to your site. Save your egg shells bake them in the oven and grind them up to a powder and put them on your dog food. I use a vitamix to powder them. I keep a jar on my counter.
I have a 13 yr old 10lb yorkie with a history of pancreatitis. I want to cook her bland low fat homemade food, but also need it to be complete and balanced. I would really appreciate a lesson on how to good a complete and balanced homemade food for her and her special needs. ♥️
Hello Dr. Jesica, thank you for a very informative video. My question is if I feed my dog dry food and cooked meal on top of, how do I know how much calcium or nutrients I should give my dog? Can you make a video please that combines 50% dry food and 50% cooked meal? how much vitamins, calcium and phosphorus dog need, I’m not sure if I cut the nutrients to half if it’s ok? Or overly supplements? Thank you again for another educational video! 👍 keep up the great job 👏😻
Can you talk about a homemade kidney friendly diet. My dog has just early stages and I cook for him but I dont really lnow how much chicken to use for his weekly meals. I notmally use 3 cups of chiken blueberries spinach brown rice carrots and add laxseed meal and calcium like you from eggshells. He is 16 pounds
I never thought about using a coffee grinder to grind the egg shells. I've just been using a morter and pestle to grind them up. I have a coffee grinder that I use to grind flax seed with that I add to my dog's food, so maybe I'll try that and see how it works.
I just give my dog raw chicken, cornish hen, and other 'bird' bones (with the meat still on them). I also put crushed up egg shells into his homemade meals. Calcium is easy to get enough of.
I am struggling with my 4.5 YO Pom/terrier mix and getting her to eat. She likes food like her chicken jerky or dried Liver but I have thrown away so much doctored up kibble and home made food I don't know what else to try. And I make sure it is one of the better kibble that I try. There for awhile she was ok with Fresh Pet but she started refusing that too now. I have tried toppers like sardines, bone broth, liver powder and many more things and she walks away. The last food I cooked for her with ground beef she refused. I know people say when she is hungry enough she will eat but that doesn't work with her. She hates most vegetables and used to eat blueberries and bananas but no more. She does not like pumpkin or sweet potatoes either. Sometimes if I tease her or play a game with her food she will eat but rarely. She is very active and I do take her for walks daily too so she does get good exercise and play time.
I really like your videos and trust what your saying. Although I was a little confused when your giving (1 teaspoon) 2000mg to a 20 LBS dog and 500mg to a 10 LBS dog. When I look at the chart for my 90 LBS dog, it looks like I should give approximately 2000mg.
I have a 50 pound dog a 5 pound dog and a 15 pound dog would the complete be the best recipe for them and can you help me with the calories they need per day .i do have a complete vitamin suppliment to put in thier homemade food .just lost one dear pet/family member from to heart disease. i took to himto the emergency room several times, tried to get into vet and am mourning ,and missing my little one terribly .so been extremely upset so i want to get this right. so your help is appreciated. and thanks for doing your videos
@@FarmersMarketFido I read things like it goes bad after a month , or after three months… That’s what my question was one month three months what is it?
Thank you so much for these informative videos! I started cooking for my dogs when my Boston terrier had reactions to every food given. She is on the petite side at only 13 pounds, a little skinny I believe and now takes Apoquel. Having a little bit of a hard time keeping weight on her because she's so hyper. Now that you have explained the calcium so clearly, thank you, I'm a little confused with the zinc that I need to give. I have 2 dogs that are 10 pounds and a pitbull who is 65 pounds, plus the Boston, any suggestions on the zinc necessary for each? One of the videos you had put out had mentioned the zinc but I still can't figure it out for them. Keep up the great videos, thank you!
As long as you follow the recipe and mix the powder thoroughly throughout the whole recipe then it will just be balanced for both dogs. You’ll just be feeding the larger dog more based on the calories needed. And the small dog probably needs to be getting calories for an active dog. So that would be two times RER
If my dogs home cook food has the ground turkey as mentioned in the chart should he still need the calcium supplement and for a 13lbs 2 years old how much should he eat each servings and how many times a day? ❤❤😊😊😊
I give my dog the egg shells of about a dozen eggs every week. We share the eggs themselves (hard boiled they make good training treats) but she gets all the shells.
Ive got a yorkie, making his food recently, he needs to loose a lb. or 2. He has (we believe) a minor ACL tear. What can I give him besides a healthy diet with Omega3, egg shell powder etc. TY
I'm trying to help my sister by making homemade dog food for her 12 year old chihuahua shes 4 ponds what's a good recipe for her and what all do we need to put in it
See my complete and balanced home cooked dog food in the instant pot video. That would be good for her. You just figure out how many calories she needs and feed that much. A 4 pound dog needs about 150-200 calories per day depending on activity.
Thank you for this very informative video. You asked what our dog’s favourite food is. Well my kelpies love EVERYTHING. The other 3 are more discerning 😊😊. They are all on just home cooked and raw. 🤗🤗🤗🐕🐕🐩🐶🐶
Would love to see a home cooked video for kidney diet. We were doing chicken but I think he's allergic he got so itchy. Now I'm cooking beef. Might have to switch to lamb because he is still really itchy and has been on beef for 3 weeks now. I really just don't what is best for kidneys or stubborn blood in urine issues
Yes you can! It should not be a problem. I use it with Maggie and she is fine. But, of course you want to pay attention anytime you add anything new. Some dogs do have an egg allergy, and in those cases I might not use it.
Another question commercial eggs are bleached could this be dangerous? Do different colored eggs have different amounts? I'm getting chickens and want to use their eggshells thank you
Great questions! The bleaching is not the best but, it's not as bad as kibble. And you can just use thew brown egg shells. They are the same. Although farm fresh local eggs would be best for sure.
I have been trying to feed my dogs better so I have been trying out just food for dogs but sometimes I want to make them different recipes but not sure what vitamins etc to put in their food. It’s all a little over whelming and hard to make sure I am giving my 2 dogs the proper nutrition.
I am a big fan of variety as a method of balancing the diet. That being said the Just Food For Dogs DIY cans are great. And I have a complete and balance recipe video up now too:)
3:04 i’ve only just found your videos and I see it’s been a year since you posted them. I feed my dogs whole chicken that has been pressure cooked and mashed. The bones can be squished with my fingers. Does this provide enough calcium that I shouldn’t have to add eggshell powder? I also add a can of sardines to every batch. I have a hard time finding many videos of people who do this.
