@@nlightening776431 lbs is the portion size that the recipe will yield. I think if you have a food scale it would be best to weigh by grams. I find when cooking anything it’s the most accurate way of measuring.

It's refreshing for a channel to say "This is just our brand, but of course any freeze-dried liver would work." It's more honest that I expect from most UA-cam videos.

The standard guideline I’ve seen for what to feed is 2.5% of ideal body weight. God bless.

Its difficult to find anything other than chicken livers here only occasionally can i get pork when i purchase half a pig. I have used chicker liver 5% but add pork kidney 5% plus i use heart of duck gizzards to cover the potential fall in vitamins of chicken liver. Is what i am doing helping on vitamins or not quite getting there. Your opinion is most valued. Angela from Portugal

Thank you, so much, for this recipe! ❤
My 14 y/o chow-retriever mix was recently diagnosed with stage 2 kidney disease and a grade 2 heart murmur. I've been spending so much time looking for information on how to make complete and balanced meals for her - there's so much wrong information out there that's "vet approved" (you've seen it 😂 ), which makes it so hard to find good information!
It would be uber awesome if you wanted to show/talk about some recipes, and nutrient requirements, for our senior pets! Maybe for senior pets with some health conditions too 😅. I'd also be very interested to hear any information you might have on Optimum nutrient requirements, as opposed to "minimum" requirements, for our four legged friends.
    You rock my socks!
    Thanks for being you 🤘😎🦄

This is great information. I have been making my dogs food for a little over a year now. I have been unsure of the nutrients so I mix it with high quality kibble. However she has diabetes now so I am working at getting her off kibble. I just started her on Ziwi brand dried beef , still mixing it with homemade food. I would greatly appreciate any nutritional information you have for diabetic dogs. She is 12 and a half years old Chihuahua, Minpin mix.

My partner and I had to bust out a few conversions (thank you ChatGPT) and a food scale to make this work. We had 1 pound of beef as our starting point.
    - 1 lb of Ground beef [60%]
    - 1.33 oz of Liver [5%]
    - 0.67 oz of Mushroom [2.5%]
    - 2.67 oz of Root vegetable [10%]
    - 1.33 oz of Cruciferous vegetable [5%]
    - 0.93 oz of Antioxidant-rich berries [3.5%]
    - 1.07 oz of Seed [4%]
    - 2.67 oz of Omega-3s [10%]
This was a wonderful introduction into healthy and nutritious options for our dog! Thanks so much for sharing PetCubes.
And wanted to include what we did in case anyone else may have been wondering how these percentages might come to life.

Our guidelines are that mushrooms safe for human edible consumption when cooked will also be safe for your dog. Boletus has many species some of which are edible and some of which are not, I'm not a mycologist and can't confirm what species you actually have so my advice to you would be to not feed it.

For dogs and humans, there are NO essential carbohydrates. Wolves and coyotes raid farmers fields for mice and other rodents. They don’t go after the grain. Most dog food companies are owned by cereal companies who have an abundance of cheap grains. My dogs eat sweet potatoes and carrots when I have lean days for them as they are hungry. When I give them meat days, they don’t touch the vegys.

I have a few questions about this recipe.
    1. Unfortunately, i can't find sardines with no salt (the least salty is John West sardines in water, which have 1 gram of salt per 100 grams of sardines).
Did i understand correctly that the sardines in this 1 kg recipe can be replaced with 2 eggs (or did you mean just the shells?) and 100 gram of salmon oil?
    2. Can the mushrooms be replaced with something else? (i realize this question may be annoying, since you've made this recipe as it is in the video).
I would definitely like to try this recipe and that's why i want to ask, because i want the recipe to go right.
Thank you if you have time to answer.

Cups and tablespoons are not precise (1 cup is different depending on how much you pack into the cup), and are different country to country (1 cup: USA is 240ml, Oz is 250ml). I recommend buying a food scale. Weight is the same regardless of country or measuring technique. It will make your cooking so much easier and precise.

Hi there - love this video - PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN 🤗 RE: Calcium and Omegas 😮
First, I'm very pleased that I've been pretty close the recipe you used through my research ... HOWEVER ... I'm concerned I'm not giving her enough calcium. I do give her one or two crushed eggshells but only when I feed her eggs - about four times a week - so not enough calcium I think. I cannot afford a calcium supplement but I am lucky enough to have access to farm-raised chickens from my neighbors so eggs and egg shells are not much of a financial type problem 🤞🏼🤞🏼. Can I prepare egg shells by grinding them? - I know you said to use two egg shells in this recipe - (also, that's a lot of eggshells for a 75 lb dog ... I think??? - I haven't done the math yet LOL) - my budget for my dog's food is actually more than I spend on my food - she's my service dog and my whole world 🫶🏼 - can you please give other examples or options for cost efficient for calcium ... I have access to organic vegetables readily from neighbors ... ALSO ... with the omegas ... If I'm feeding my dog pre-soaked chia seeds ... But can only afford sardines or tuna in water occasionally ... And cannot afford to purchase a supplement - what would you suggest?
Trying desperately - my dog, gracie, is a 75 lb golden retriever -she will be 8 years old in January 2025. She has been 74.5 lb her entire life and has no health issues, except occasional ear ... She's a water dog ... We live in a tropical climate and she's in the water almost daily ... But she's my fifth golden so I'm able to maintain and resolve any ear issues readily
I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE CALCIUM AND THE OMEGAS ....
Please help - thanks so much
NOTE: I would spend any amount of money to feed my girl the best -but being on a fixed income, I'm already short to buy food for myself each month ... So I fast four days a month to reduce the food bill for myself - I just don't have the money and feel quite embarrassed and ashamed)

The 73 lb dog would get 883 grams or 1.947 lbs per day.
So if you made this recipe everyday for 7 days on the 8th day you would have enough to feed both dogs one time as a leftover.
      I think...😮

Ugh … looking for a good home prepared meal for my 4 Siberian Husky’s - they weigh collectively about 200 lbs. I’d need a commercial size kitchen to make this for them! I may try it though and see how it goes. The youngest just turned one year old. So I need to see how to adjust it for a puppy.

Hello there, this is a brilliant recipe. I have a question. Is it okay if I feed my dog kibble and fresh food? For instance, I feed my dog three times a day(for now), for breakfast and dinner, I feed her kibble, and for lunch fresh food.

Yeah just don’t mix kibble and fresh in the same meal, and make sure your get the total calories right

Is cod liver oil a good alternative to the “liver” portion of the recipe?

    • @ShoutForSomething

Cod liver oil would be an omega/fat supplement. I believe the beef liver serves as a source of essential vitamins, so the two would not be interchangeable.

This diet is pretty much keto except for the root veg. The only root veg I have found that isn't loaded with sugar are rutabegas and I use them in place of potatoes. This recipe is practically tailor made for diabetics.

Yes you can freeze, should be fine in the freezer. For a fridge, I wouldnt do more than 3 days because its human grade food and can go bad

When I feed my senior dog refrigerated food, I run hot water in the bowl to warm it and add some hot water to the food to take the chill off. He laps up the soup (as it has plenty of flavor) until the soup/gravy is nominal and then eats the solids. He has free access to clean water and a small portion of kibble that he will usually ignore until later.

    • @petcubesofficial
      @petcubesofficial  2 місяці тому

You can consider 4mg per lb of body weight of turmeric per day and literally just a tiny pinch of pepper (that one doesn't scale with body weight)

@petcubesofficial , for this recipe in the video , how much turmeric? Or should turmeric be added at feeding , based on the dogs weight ? I have 5 adult dogs , between 10 and 15lbs and would be making this recipe for them exactly as you have shown in video. It would be fed 2x daily per each dog . Thanks for any help with this .

Idk if you reply to comments, but I have two dogs I am going to begin cooking for because its SOMEHOW cheaper than kibble, and I dont like convenience fees and like to make things myself. This will work great for my golden, but are there any tweaks I could make to the recipe for a dog who has a lot of trouble losing weight? Like typically only succeeds with 240 ish kcal/cup foods but also dont digest them well because, theyre obviously garbage. I had her on raw before with my other dog but she gained. Her thyroid is clear, I think its a spay issue.

Through the years I’ve heard grainfree diets are best for dogs. I went for many years without a dog and now in the past 2 years I’ve been told by my vet(s) that grain free diets have been linked back to heart problems in dogs. I didn’t see any grains in this diet. What is your opinion?

    • @buckjones5083
      @buckjones5083 4 місяці тому +3

According to several vets I have talked to: Grain free " was like a fad diet". They are finding out that this is not the best diet. Think about what is included in a real wild diet. Predators frequently eat the internal organs and gut first. Most prey for major predators are herbivores. This usually includes "grains" or grasses. So, that means the predators are also eating grains. I feel that as long as you are feeding a nutritionally balanced varied diet you are honoring your animal family members. I like to feed a combination and rotate their diet.
