I find it very unique for TF2 and source engine games in general that certain places in maps or maps can feel cozy. You don't really get that feeling with other, mainly more "mainstream" (in a sense) games. Another thing is all the secrets and little details, it really seems like Source maps have always had a tradition of secrets, hidden/auxiliary areas, and some unnecessary not very noticeable detailing. All that makes it very special in my opinion.

Totally I love tf2 maps with areas where you are not totally disconnected from your team but can easily end up in a one on one or just wondering around on your own. The one v ones can just create some high intensity or be an opportunity to go friendly. And even when you are just by yourself it makes it feel like tf2 is its own little world. The classic is probably 2 fort sewers. But for me it will always be thundermountain first stage second point buildings on the left where you will often find yourself alone or just with one other person.

The subway area in pass_district is always a fun area to build a sentry nest right by the enemy team and flank to get the jack to the goal on the right. I also want to acknowledge the secret room in one of the subway tunnels.
The map room in Badwater is fun. I especially like using it as Spy to quickly drop onto sentries set up below the room. It’s just a cozy place, despite it being connected to RED’s spawn.
I also want to mention the small dock on each side of Bananabay with the wad of rope at the end of it. I distinctly remember many times that friendlies would start dance fests here. I don’t see it much anymore; only during Jungle Inferno did it happen. Maybe it was to take a break from doing contracts.

These expansive spaces is something I really love about Team Fortress 2 and Valve games general. Nowadays maps cut away the fat and focus on the layout, which is fine, but I really liked to explore these additional spaces and see how these could be used for any small advantage. Also some of these mostly unused areas by most classes really help the clases that ambush like spies and engineers to sneak around (well and granary are good examples).
Hydro has a lot of interesting off area places and open places, but since no one really play this map not many point them out (Like the MvM maps).
My personal favorites are the behind glass areas in 2Fort, you mentioned the giant map room, but I like the glass door on the same room, the meeting room in front of that, and the over head glass room. Also just outside the intel room that one office space with the window and the glowing light hallway.
I really enjoy these additional map details, because it makes it seem that the map is not just some murder box that follows gameplay principles, but shows that the place served a function before the mercs jump into. Great stuff.

The spot on cp_granary surprised me. I haven't played that map much and not for many years, but I've watched so many UA-cam videos I'm amazed to have never even heard of this spot until I watched your video.

I used to open private servers and just run around, looking at stuff. Dustbowl, Mann Manor, 2fort and even Ghost Town. Surprisingly relaxing and I always liked to imagine if it was a different game just setting up a little living area in certain cozy looking spots.

On gorge, if you go to the right out of red spawn into the room in the corner, there's a ledge on the ceiling that you can get onto and even build on, I've always wanted to get a teleporter up there but I've never been able to do it

On pl_pier after you capture the final point, you can actually explore much of that area around the ferris wheel. You can even go all the way across the water to the boat that's under blu's first spawn

I love this because im one of those people that will suddenly stop fighting or contribute to the team and just stare and appreciate the scenery. Then, I'll make some headcanons about these spots like why did they make these? How would the characters feels like upon seeing it. It's hard to explain but I like to think that those spots are important and make the game feel alive? Idk probably doesnt make sense but yeah.
I also remembered my first time seeing the Lazarus healing pond (used to be my fav map) and just had a moment of "wow, this is cool does anybody know this?" so, Im glad to see it being mentioned here :)

You can still reach the peir and ferries wheele, and the backside of RED's spawn after final is capped. Though, having enough health to not die and still have the speed to reach em before rounds are swapped, is different problem.

I suggest to make a video about the "lore" of the maps. Specifically, the objective on each map. On 2Fort the fight is probably for those secret rooms the intel is in. On Sawmill the objective is probably that secret place under the control point. Etc. I think it will be a great reason to talk on how the war between the RED and BLU is disguised.

Interesting and unique places in maps can be difficult to make but are ideal for helping a map stand out from the crowd. I'd love to see more examples of these interesting/rarely noticed places throughout the game.

On the Mann Vs Machine Bigrock map, there is a quick easter egg that'll (might) happen, when looking at the area where the tank spawns, there should be a drop, and a broken off railway, every once in a while a Spy riding a cart will fall there.
There should be videos on youtube and reddit.

The weird side room in Swiftwater that is right next to the final few meters of the payload path, it has a vent system that drops down into it. That entire " last stand" building is so cool to me, with the one-way doors and the many interesting paths

    Oh, pretty interesting video!
Although, to be honest, the room underneath Blu spawn in Mercenary Park tends to get pretty overlooked nowadays. When I play engi there, I usually have no trouble setting up there, and almost no one thinks about checking it. It does get ultimately useless when Point A is captured though, but it can be pretty useful early-game!
Just make sure there's another engi who can actually defend the point

I always loved making 'underwater bases' in places like under the 2fort bridge. The Christmas version of Sawmill has some good places for that too, and the community map Quagmire has probably my favorite.
"Super secret" on Sawmill also warrants some mention.

Nothing quite like appreciating the details of source maps. Its just something else man. As someone who learned to use hammer to some extent, my appreciation for TF2's and CS:GO's maps became huge. And just in general I always liked wandering around looking at the designs and details of maps, maybe you'll find a cool spot for gameplay, or just sth that's nice to look at or think about. Find similar detalis in maps made by the same person.

5:06 i remember that I would put a sentry looking out the window, a teleporter in the room with the supplies and a dispenser outside
I would do this mostly while on BLU
Sometimes I would do that while in red team but I would put the sentry mostly in the building looking over the blu spawn exit
I dont play engineer as I would back in 2015-2016
Nowadays I use other classes on this map, especially soldier, pyro and demo

Sometimes I forget how good TF2 looks, the cartoonist artstyle and the way the lightning works just fits
I wish they could give it a better option for textures, and shadows, and perhaps lighting
    Looks really nice

The 2fort basement room used to be a spawn room in TF Classic. It made infiltrating the enemy base much more difficult since random encounters with enemy players would be frequent down there.

The roof areas and catwalk of koth_nucleus. Whether it’s bombing from above or getting that precarious health pack below, this map has more verticality than we initially realize.
