Ecu flash is a ridiculously silly reason not to buy an R1.. there is no streets in the world that you actually need an ECU flash. Even for track use you don't need an ECU flash 🤦

They’re still not unlocked yet...xplaner1customtuning amongst many others are still waiting. The entire reason I found a 2018 with 1800 miles cause I could actually get it dyno tuned
In Bmw s1000 case it's about 45hp in the mid range. The bike frankly sucks without a tune and I'll is more dangerous without tune, as the power comes on violently after about 9k rpm. Tune gives a nice linear power increase through the dome.
These companies that make it so difficult to unlock the ecu will begin to lose money on their new bike sales. People will just buy older bikes plain and simple. They will have to give the peole what they want.Cash is always king.
I have a ‘18 Raven R1, with a full Akrap. I know the thing would run smoother with a flash, but the backfire and crackling is absolutely intoxicating to me
I kind of sort of bought a 2021 R1 today 🤷🏻♀️ pick it up tomorrow 10am. I’m so excited but I’m also full of anxiety lol.. it’s a huge purchase for a bike and it’s new and I squeal, blush, and get butterflies every time I see it. Currently drive a 05 R1, first bike. Still nervous to get on this thing.
could not agree more, I spent months working and saving specifically for the newest 2020 r1 of my dreams and quite simply it isn't smooth enough stock. the power gains are amazing but the smooth power delivery from a tune would make this bike a real competitor with the BMW
I would definitely buy the new R1, flash or no flash...it looks great and sounds amazing and it competes well against the competition in every bike comparison test on the track I've seen. It's still a track slayer stock, ill be aight. 😏
@@asphaltannihilator157 True but just funny how privileged it sounds "Oh my 197hp track monster of a motorcycle that can go three times the speed limit in 1st gear can't be unlocked for better performance, it's a bad bike"
@@ohad.5890 It's a valid point. Most of us who go and spend the money on a new machine aren't looking to keep it stock, we want to make the price tag worth it. If you love the bike and don't care about wringing out all the performance locked away under restrictions than feel free to buy it, but the man is entitled to his opinion and many of us share it. I'd have never bought my 2019 CBR1000RR, the straight up least powerful new liter bike with the heaviest restrictions, if I hadn't been able to flash the ecu. Even with a full exhaust and dyno tune the thing is still less powerful than most stock liter bikes of today. When you pay almost 20k for performance, you want to maximize that performance you paid so much for and get the most bang for your buck.
Thats for any new bike, i have the 2021 ZX10r on hold for that same reason, of course thats going to happen, every tuner needs to learn the bike dude, dont bring that bike down that's one of the sexiest bike ever, so just chill and wait you'll get what you're looking for in mods just hang in there, this happened even with the 2020 and before that, its just what happens when a new bike comes along and they learn it. So people dont listen to this guy.
But also tho, imagine not recommending a bike because you cant ecu-flash it. I live in a country where i can't even legally take out the db killer or an already pretty quiet bike. Like my cb500f with a mivv gp slipon would probably still be more quiet than a lawnmower. My bike without any slipon was more quiet than my neighbours r6, with an sc (kat and killer in). I do get it, you want thó get the most about a bike. But that's like a small problem compared to what can be done and is allowed to be done on a bike.
just got out of a coma from a ladie running a stop sign and side swiping me and watching your videos always makes me wanna ride i almost died but ill still be out on 2 wheels again
I have a 2020 R1M and my dyno tuner installed the Rapid Bike Evo for the 2020 R1. My bike was actually the first one installed in the world. It is tuned more perfectly than any bike I've ever owned top to bottom achieving around 218HP at the crank. Massively improved the bike's performance off the mark and fueling even at idle. Happy to send you the dyno charts and videos. Maybe go see a professional instead of trying to do it at home in your garage with a shitty handheld tuner.
Me being happy that I'm getting my first bike tomorrow... (Sherco SMR 50cc, cuz of European regulations) Motonosity: I'm not happy my R1 can't go faster! ( No hate, just funny to me)
As fun as the big bore bike are, theres always more fun to be had on the small bikes. You can beat the shit out of them without getting too stupid fast. I still never had as much fun as I have had on my old 1980 GS450.
This video hit the nail on the head. I have a 2020 R1 and have been waiting almost a year for the flash. Going forward I will not buy a motorcycle until it has been unlocked. Really like the bike but the restrictions are holding back the real performance. Getting close to saying bye to it and getting an S1000RR.
I love the video’s!!! I just got a 2021 R1 2 weeks ago, I love it it’s always been my dream bike since the 09 R1 raven addition. But I’m coming from an R3 so there’s a big difference for me then what you feel from 1,000 cc to another 1,000 cc 🏍
Soon I'm going to buy my first mini bike, and am considering buying my first motorcycle afterwards. I will mainly cruise on the roads because I'm in California, and everyday there are a lot of reckless drivers, and distracted drivers here. The state should ban them from driving, and they should have to use public transit. Not including thousands injuries...almost 4,000 people died in California because of traffic accidents in 2020 alone.
I have a 2020 R1 as well. I had a 2016 Aprilia rsv4 that I used for track days and never had it flashed so I guess it’s not a huge deal. With that being said, if the ecu is ever cracked, I’ll put a pipe on mine and have it flashed.
After it's flashed you need to actually do a full titanium exhaust system. With catalytic converter delete and make sure you get a two brothers full carbon fiber M2 Black Series exhaust system. And K&N air filter and you might even want a different air filter box. One that will allow it to breathe better. Then after you've got all that done go back and have a full custom Dyno tune. By Moore Mafia. They do amazing work the bike should be putting out right at 200 horsepower at the rear wheel by the time you get all that done. If you really wanted to step up your game I would go with rotobox carbon fiber Wheels and full Brembo brakes. By that point you should probably have just about the baddest bike in town
This is why I’m waiting to purchase the 2021 ZX10R because that bike is so restricted up top it would be annoying riding it unflashed. Plus I want the aftermarket to be fully stocked with parts for it so I can mod it.
i don't think i'll ever buy a 1000. Im going way over the speed limit before i even shift to 2, and you don't have to give so much gas for that. I like to utilise all the gears, shifting for some reason makes alot of fun. And i don't want to ride recklessly and potentially kill someone from my riding either. I'll probably get a cbr650r (mainly because of the looks), and maybe an even smaller bike, maybe a 300 for short zaps around the city.
Have you looked into the mt07, great bike and honestly I ride fast too but that’s just me, I stay away from cars and stick to the highway and windy roads

can't you just take the R1 to a Yamaha dealer and they can download whatever tune you want into the ECU? I realize it's not the same as putting your bike on the dyno, but I think if tell them your riding style and what exhaust you put on, they can get pretty close. Then again, I'm not into modern bikes, I still ride one with a carburetor, LOL
Just get a different year so you can flash it tbh. My 2015 without a flash was lame for lack of better words. Once I got it flashed it felt like a much better bike
just get a 2019 I have a 2020 its not worth it the flash makes it way more powerful and more importantly the delivery of said power more smooth and usable
Maybe it’s because I don’t ride sport bikes. It doesn’t really matter to me. If it performs how I want stock and I can change the exhaust without getting a ton of decel pop. I’m happy. I’d be more unhappy if there wasn’t any aftermarket support to make the bike more comfortable and usable. I’m not a fabricator so I rely on the aftermarket for that stuff.
i got the 20R1 just put on my austin racing GP1RR de-cat exhaust system sounds like a super lion feels amazing but all i can do right now is use someone's address so i can buy a power commander California doesn't allow pc here some bs but love the bike and sound ive hit 186MPH at stock
I got the 2020 r1. And its totally stock and it wows everyone that sees it. Except for its incredibly quiet exhaust and cat. But 2wycked still smokes most of the competition regardless. 198 horsepower isnt a joke. But yes, an ECU flash would be nice.
Great video. I hate riding new bikes with locked ECU’s. The engine braking is so aggresive, they run dangerously lean north of 10k rpms..... euro emissions are ruining bikes and need to go.
I'm pretty sure they don't want you to flash that bike. My evidence is based on the Snowmobiles. Those are instantly unlockable. You can tune them up to 270HP with just a ECU re-flash straight out of the box. Why you can't do that with the bikes?
I ended up paying 3k more for new 18 R1M in December. To buy a future tune for the ecu, pipe and air filter you're spending lightly depreciated R1M, S1KRR or RSV4F money. I personally think they out classed themselves due to euro 5. The zx10R is also being cracked and offers better tech than a 20 or 21 R1 at a competitive price.
Check out Yart, this is the main tuner of yamaha based in Austria.. Also they say it's impossible you have to buy the race ECU.. Otherwise noc chance.. And problem with the new model is they run very low on fuel so if you change exhaust so that it is even more air and less fuel inside the engine burning the engine runs to hot and the engine can get damaged.. Check out yart.. They talk german but maybe you will find an English version.. 👌🏽
I have a 2020 R1 as well. Currently has a race pipe. Still waiting on a legit tuner to be released. I know when it does you'll be the person I hear about it from. Lost a lot of top end taking that cat and pipe off, but man does it sound like pure sex. I don't need to tell you. There's no way I'm putting that cat back on though, unless I need warranty work of course. : - )
that looks like more bike than the majority of riders can realistically handle. why you would be wanting to get rid of it because you cant hack it to get more speed out of it is beyond me.

It's not a big deal to me. I'm looking to upgrade from my 2005 Cbr1000rr(yes I know she's old and I am the original owner) and all these bikes are pretty much the same. Of course they feel different, but they all have rider modes, six axis imus, etc. They're already so damn ridiculous unflashed. I'd be annoyed, but it wouldn't stop me unless there was some egregious rideability issue.
A 2005 cbr600 feels NOTHING like a modern (2017+) bike. The off-throttle engine braking via fuel cut is egregious and something you have to train yourself to get used to. the bike damn near wants to fall over if you cost thru a turn. The mid-throttle, mid-rpm characteristics are just not at all what you would expect out of a newer bike if you're coming off that cbr. Its honestly going to leave you with a giant question mark over your head after you ride a newer bike
@@JulianVR4 I don't coast through corners? Also, the clutch is a wonderful way to manipulate your bike. Anyway, I ridden all the newer bikes I'd buy. No question marks, they're fine. If anything, they're easier to ride with all the systems up to a certain point if you use them. The only question I've had was riding my buddy's big ass Harley whatyamacallit. As we get older, most of our buddies have made the switch from sport bikes and Busas to Harleys. I can't do that. That whole shit is weird. The bars, the feet forward...I don't want any part of that. I respect what they do with all the bodywork, radios, other modifications, but nah.
@@pherron7471 even using the clutch to modulate your speed, my 2012 CBR 1000 would almost be at the point of bucking and lurching going through turns as the rpm surged. All of those bad riding characteristics went away with an ecu flash and a dyno tune. Agreed on the cruiser stuff. If I get too old to ride a rocket, I'm giving it up
Since selling my 2018 V4S for my next bike I've narrowed it down to the 2020 RSV4 Factory, the 2021 S1000rr M package or the 2020 R1m If they don't unlock the R1 ecu then I will not be getting a 2020 R1m
this is where we are headed as long as people allow these companies to continue to control their product by making it only customizable by that company. Apple did it with the iPhone 12- Cant get your screen replaced because the computer doesnt recognize product # (not sure if this is still is the case but it was a month old). Tesla - very few mechanics know how to fix or repair their vehicles because of the computer system. Cadillac just did it with their new 2021 escalade cant tune the motor... its a whole shit show. they want more and more control over the products they sold to the consumer.
I love the R1, I am not ready to get one right now, It will be some time from now that I would buy one though, but I would see if they had something for the ECU and decide then.

@@r1racing17 It also depends on the rider and mods. Just cause you beat him doesn't mean you won't beat someone else on a '20.
Ahh.. just reached yamaha showroom.. will head back home now!
Motonosity you need to contact Moore Mafia or Brock himself they can help you with the ECU and also F1 Air Filter and Carbon Wheels
Moore Mafia would be a safer bet because they've worked with multiple 2020 R1s
I know the thing would run smoother with a flash, but the backfire and crackling is absolutely intoxicating to me
Got a 04 R1, two brothers exhaust the backfires like crazy
0:00 like waking up a monster 🔥🔥😭
Rich people problems
You don't have to be rich to finance a bike.
@@asphaltannihilator157 That's true, I agree.
It's costing me ALL my savings but I'm picking up an 03 R1 on Saturday lol
Just got a speeding ticket here in Dallas while listening to this video... 88 in a 60
Tuning is everything these days. Most the bikes on the market barely let the throttle bodies fully open even when 100% (rpm limited)
So true John. I agree this guys jumping the gun just relax it’ll be worth waiting for…
Great vid man, but I think it's still a bike you should have a ride on in your life. Its soooo cool looking.
The first H2 took nearly a year and a half for an ECU flash. Now us kawasaki owners are facing it again.
Already secured financing for 2021 zx10r but waiting until ecu gets unlocked before I make the jump....
Moore mafia did it last week check him out
But also tho, imagine not recommending a bike because you cant ecu-flash it.
Well you can flash it now, I’m having mine flashed
Well, if you strugle with the electronics, get a Kit ECU and programm it.
That would be one of the easiest ways to get to that point.
just got out of a coma from a ladie running a stop sign and side swiping me and watching your videos always makes me wanna ride i almost died but ill still be out on 2 wheels again
Welcome back to the land of the living, fren. Hope your dreams were amazing in your stasis.

Hi dude what’s the name and address of the garage you went to ?
Yes I would buy it just gotta be patient for the flash
Yeah i bought mine back in July. Really pissed about the restricted ECU
Me being happy that I'm getting my first bike tomorrow... (Sherco SMR 50cc, cuz of European regulations)
Motonosity: I'm not happy my R1 can't go faster!
( No hate, just funny to me)
As fun as the big bore bike are, theres always more fun to be had on the small bikes. You can beat the shit out of them without getting too stupid fast. I still never had as much fun as I have had on my old 1980 GS450.
Don’t buy it…I love it…I don’t get it? You love it but don’t buy it?
This video hit the nail on the head. I have a 2020 R1 and have been waiting almost a year for the flash. Going forward I will not buy a motorcycle until it has been unlocked. Really like the bike but the restrictions are holding back the real performance. Getting close to saying bye to it and getting an S1000RR.
Just make a lil money and/ or get a older r1 as long as its crossplain there all beautiful anyways 🤷♂️💯🤘
Absolutely man! I'm confident it'll EVENTUALLY get unlocked haha. But you've got a lot of bike to enjoy until then.

I love your videos man! Makes me miss my R6 with all this canadian snow!!
Hope you're finding some positives in it dude! I'd trade ya for a white winter.
I have never had that weird noise come from my bike while letting go off throttle. Also, my 2020 R1 is flashed
Thats my one of the reason why I cant buy the new R1. I’d rather have the 17-19 R1.
The Yamaha r1 2020 is a very good bike. The ride the look and everything about it. The sound of the bike is the best.
The framerate hurts my brain
Yeah should’ve went 60fps for this video. Too much movement to be below 60fps.

I'm pretty sure he can straighten out the ECU so the throttle will quit bouncing
i don't think i'll ever buy a 1000.
Always ride it like you stole it

@@mikehunt8037 riding on the autobahn is in my opinion boring, and the windy roads we have here are capped at max 100kmh (61mph). also if they are not already capped at 70 or something like that
can't you just take the R1 to a Yamaha dealer and they can download whatever tune you want into the ECU? I realize it's not the same as putting your bike on the dyno, but I think if tell them your riding style and what exhaust you put on, they can get pretty close.
Then again, I'm not into modern bikes, I still ride one with a carburetor, LOL
Ya id buy the r1 knowing i couldnt flash it.
Hi pal thats some insane quality, wanted to ask which camera you using ? Thanks
I don't think the main issue is getting into the ecu. Its all the tables they have now and working out what they do and what there for.
Man just love the thumbnail. And you write don't buy the new R1.😂
Looking to add in a 18’ R1 soon. Will have an MT10 with it as well.

worth the wait tho
I got the 2020 r1. And its totally stock and it wows everyone that sees it. Except for its incredibly quiet exhaust and cat. But 2wycked still smokes most of the competition regardless. 198 horsepower isnt a joke. But yes, an ECU flash would be nice.
Great video. I hate riding new bikes with locked ECU’s. The engine braking is so aggresive, they run dangerously lean north of 10k rpms..... euro emissions are ruining bikes and need to go.
@Motonosity - With this sense, if you changed the exhaust and cat delete -will it damage the engine of the r1 by having only the stock ECU?
I'm pretty sure they don't want you to flash that bike. My evidence is based on the Snowmobiles. Those are instantly unlockable. You can tune them up to 270HP with just a ECU re-flash straight out of the box. Why you can't do that with the bikes?
4.40 makes everything you just said disappear i still want one
Nah. I'm buyin'
Hey MAN Got chills looking at your bike.. Love IT!!!!!!!
Seeing you drive on lime creek dr is probably the best thing ever
Can you do a new bike build but go to the max like Jaret Campisi?
I got my 2020 r1 in February of 2020. Love the bike but the no flash 1.5 years later still hurts lol.

As we get older, most of our buddies have made the switch from sport bikes and Busas to Harleys. I can't do that. That whole shit is weird. The bars, the feet forward...I don't want any part of that.
