Great video Andy. I've heard of these guys before and saw their run on lake of the ozarks. Very cool and innovative stuff but they are 5 years way at least.
The idea and instant power and torque of Electric Is great in many ways. the problem is the distance and charge time just isn't there. Plus me being in Wisconsin with cooler temperatures in Spring and fall, Does and would affect the charge longevity of the batteries. I have had to paddle or get towed home enough do to old Mercury's I've owned. I don't need to be stuck in the middle of a lake or river because I ran out of battery with no way to charge it.
With additional electric vehicles, what will we be paying for electricity in the future? How will these work in cold weather? What do you do with the batteries in X amount of years? How "green" is this with taking in account of total life span & location of source materials to create all things to make it work? Keep in mind how long it takes to charge, you can stop at a marina and fill your tank in minutes, how many hours to charge the boat? Do the batteries get a charge memory? Soo many questions...

I personally do not like the idea of relying on one type of power source while out in the middle of a lake. Been more than once that I have had to trolling motor back a mile or 2. Only reason I made it back to ramp without a tow fee is because I had a backup to main power. I like having a backup option if one goes down.

The ideal market for this is a lake owner with a docked pontoon boat. They can go cruise for part of the day, come back to the dock and charge all night.

The thought of instant torque with an electric motor is intriguing. However, to my knowledge (and I could be entirely wrong) the boating industry skipped one major step the automotive industry is taking... Hybrid. In all honesty it could be the best of both worlds, picture a bank of lithiums and a 10 gal tank (compared to a 50 gal that's leaves room for the batteries to weigh 240lb), let's assume the smaller ice engine size (since it only has to turn the alternator) and the electric motor weight cancel each other put, you could get some serious bang for your buck. All while increasing the range. I see hybrid being a competitor in the automotive world longer than most people think and it could seriously be a contender in the marine world.
Just realized you're up to 23.5k subscribers, congrats! I can remember when you where under 2k. My question is, how does a 180HP only do 20mph? A 150hp will easily double that. Did they mean 18.0HP?
Thanks Paul! Its sure been a journey, glad you've been with us from the beginning. They just did their range testing at 20 mph. It will go faster. Their Cat style boat ran 109 mph with twin 180E motors
I remember a charter guide telling me that the tournament tarpon guys were running electrics down in south Florida. ( I was there on a bay fishing trip for snook and all the boats in the pass started the conversation) He said that it was a big advantage over the guys still running conventional with way more hookups. This was years ago and I don’t think those guys were running very far either. So I guess for a niche market this could be ground breaking.
The only people that cruise at 20mph are those that can't go any faster because of the power. No bass fisherman will cruise at 20mph. Give me a break. Dumbest thing I ever heard of other then an all electric F150 being able to pull 6000lb trailer only 80 miles on the highway with a full charge.
I fish a electric motor only tournament series in Oklahoma. Most guys run two 112 lbs thrust motors on the transom and a 112 on the bow. Depending on price I would be interested
Is it fair to do an electric outboard video with Vision Marine as the company/outboard product discussed? Elco has been making no frills electric outboards for decades and has been a company for over 130 years. Why would you start with a product that isn't even out yet rather than one that's already been around? Also, others have already commented on why an electric outboard would be either preferred or required. I love going 90 miles an hour in a bass boat, but a small electric outboard on a nice little Lund gets you to more fishing holes on small lakes, especially ones with restrictions. The bigger electrics are coming but solid and reliable electric outboards have been around a long time.
Vision is out and has been for awhile. We started with the most we know "high" horsepower one first because we are doing a small hp one in the future. It didnt make sense to add vision in with Elco or the new Merc avator. The small hp series of motors will be a more comparative video rather than this style of video. The goal of this video is to gauge people's reactions to what the future might bring instead of today's realities (electric only lakes, etc). Hope this explanation helps
@@TeamMarineService That makes sense but it would have been good to at least mention the different valuable uses of ones that are already out there. This video made it seem like Team Marine is anti-electric at all costs right now. That may well be the case, but they actually have been proven for decades and served a valuable place in the marine industry, even though they haven't yet targeted the larger HP market.
The problem with electric outboard isn't the outboard itself, an electric outboard is probably more efficient and don't need to be at a precise RPM to get max torque and power. And the futur they gonna be even more impressive if they use axial engine who are crazy powerful for their weight. The real problem is how the energy is stocked. A huge, heavy battery that cost a lot isn't a good option, if they become lighter and more efficient, ok. But hydrogen seems just a better option for boating or even a mix of these two, a smaller battery with a tank of hydrogen. Electric is the future but not necessary with these huge batteries
A couple of problems. Like disposing the Lithium batteries> How is that done? I heard they a burying them in the ground and that can contaminate the ground water that we drink. And like the Pick-up trucks that can only pull a bass boat for an hour before they need to be charged. Sounds like the outboard motor to me.
There are a lot of electric only lakes around me. Most power boat lakes around here have 30 or 45 mph speed limits. If I could go an hour at 45 I’d be good with that.
Size doesn't matter(that's what she said) a bass fishing tournament is 8 hrs no matter what sizevthe lake is. Ofcourse you are on your trolling motor more than your big motor but still on it more than an hour. Pluse that usually full out if the water isn't rough. Unless there is a speed limit. I'd never go somewhere like the flats in Maryland or the Potomac River with such a limitation.

Im really excited to see where electric outboards go, but right now the technology just isnt ready. Batteries are too large and heavy, and don't provide enough run time.
These Gas free motors are cool for the future, but get into Power Pole trolling motors next week. Just saying. Appreciate the new Engine, but no one is in to that. Speed. Money an no Break's!!
Don’t have a problem with it, but that range has to at least equal a full tank of fuel in a bass boat and the 20mph cruise speed has to get to minimum 65
Holy cow Andy 27000 for engine for complete setup 79000 who in their right mind is going to do this let alone what's it going to cost down the road to fix after warranty runs out
Nope until I can see it ride in it and definitely go way over 20mph.and definitely have to be able to run at least 2 pools and be able to make it back.. and did you see the price of it can buy a nice boat for that price
While I deal with very high horse power electric motors, it takes an extreme amount of power to run them. Also, most docks don't have 220v to charge the batteries. It would take forever to charge with 110volts. Great try vision, but your batteries will out weigh the boat. The technology isn't close yet. Plus to replace batteries will cost have the boat price. Hydrogen fuel cell will be the replacement in the future.
I hope people that want one and are in a situation where they're useful buy one. I can't see it for most fisherman. You can't discharge lithium below zero - I was in redwing at 6:30am last Sunday and my 90 Yamaha started in -2 degree weather. Who wants to get stranded 3 hours into a fishing trip? With gas people can help you by giving you a gallon of gas.
I will keep my gas operated truck and if I purchase a boat, it will have a gas operated outboard motor too. Also, keep in mind, there's not enough lithium in the world to keep these EVs up and running in the long run.
You are under the assumption that lithium is the final evolution in battery technology? I don’t think so. With the number of electric only lakes in my area I have been watching the evolution in electric outboards!
I am with you until the electric stuff can go longer and further than our gas power cars and boats I don't want it and I like the noise from my 2 stroke pro xs on the water.
Andy, we all love the idea of clean engines but we are so far from making any electric propulsioned vehicle with the same longevity of a charge to equal what we get with a gasoline powered engine. Until that day comes that we can have them capable of that, they will not sell. I am 61 years old and I will never see an electric boat engine that performs and has the distance to run against my gasoline engine. 20 MPH for 3 hours????? Come on! I could throw a 9hp Johnson on my Ranger and probably do those speeds and do very little to damage the environment. What's the point? Electric is just the word of the day.
180 HP my *you know what*! When all these electric outboard makers start telling the truth about what they are putting out power wise, maybe I will consider one. But I am not going to be putting anything electric on my boats at a much higher price than an actually equivalent power level outboard.
Makes me want to get another smokey old johnnyrude seams like it would be fun to pull up next to the woke electric boater and just fog for mosquitoes with a old two stroke
It's a sweet idea for 15 hp and under outboards. I think for that application it could be a great product with a ton of positives. That's about it thougg
Not to be off subject. PowerPole Move. Is it worth the 5k price I am hearing. As for a 180hp EV running 20mph....ummm excuse me?? I think my trolling motor may be faster?
@Team Marine Service I do like the fact of 24v/36v on one motor. That is Awesome. One question is how much thrust on each of those volts. I can wait for a answer when you visit them but the motor is very intriguing but wow what a price. Out of a average angler budget. I look fwd to your visit with them.
What do you do if your family, friends want to water ski???😮 Tell them you can't tow anyone that weighs more than 50lbs !!! What do you tell another boater that needs a Tow??? 😮 If you got 30' floating jumper cables I can???😢
The difference between gasoline and electric as far as pollution goes they have kids mining everything they need for a battery gives don't date for oil and then after you make the battery you have to dispose of it so where does that go right now feel fuel is the cleaner is safest way to go right now for one thing lithium does not like saltwater

Holy cow Andy 27000 for engine for complete setup 79000 who in their right mind is going to do this let alone what's it going to cost down the road to fix after warranty runs out
its march 3rd i thought the power pole trolling motor was hitting the news and the market
They did, best believe they called us today to come down and film it for y'all! 👍🏻😎✈
Awesome can't wait for video
Wondering what the coastguard rating is going to be like since a 180 only cruises at 20mph
Plus side - you will not have to remove your cap!
Do a video on-site at a cobalt mine. So far Green stuff means Green here, but not so much there.
I would have to agree, not onboard with electric outboards as of yet, but, How about that power pole move? 🤩 When can we get a review on that?
How about shirt series based on boat brands or maybe outboard brands?? Maybe? Love the content guys.
Are you boys doing a video from the BASSMASTER CLASSIC???
Power pole is taking about they’re trolling motor saw it on UA-cam
They called us today and we are working out a time to head down to Power Pole HQ! 👍🏻
the tech is not there yet. if they could add an altanator type tech to this engine to put juice back in maybe
You are assuming that lithium is the end of battery technology? I’m sure it’s not.
You are under the assumption that lithium is the final evolution in battery technology? I don’t think so. With the number of electric only lakes in my area I have been watching the evolution in electric outboards!
@@edwardcowan7012 If you are in favor of child labor mining this lithium, you can have it!!
@@edwardcowan7012 You voted for Biden, correct?
@@MrRGiller I like to be on the winning side loser
I'll have to look it up and see how many pounds with batteries?
Smugglers dream. No noise!
I am with you until the electric stuff can go longer and further than our gas power cars and boats I don't want it and I like the noise from my 2 stroke pro xs on the water.
so large lithium batteries cooking in the Florida sun...what could go wrong! LOL
Mix electrical with water good idea!
EEE MOOOOTIIIONALLL DAMMMAGGGGEEE !!
This is gonna piss some folks off
Andy, we all love the idea of clean engines but we are so far from making any electric propulsioned vehicle with the same longevity of a charge to equal what we get with a gasoline powered engine.
Want never have a electric motor I’ll stay with my 250 Mercury I promise you
i’m not going to put electric on my Bass boat, point for now any!
SPEED. MONEY. NO NOISE
Hahaha
It's a sweet idea for 15 hp and under outboards. I think for that application it could be a great product with a ton of positives. That's about it thougg
First to market to get financial backing or to sell it all about the 💰
My like on the video was # 454. Haha
America wants more than 20 mph!
Not to be off subject. PowerPole Move.
Is it worth the 5k price I am hearing.
As for a 180hp EV running 20mph....ummm excuse me?? I think my trolling motor may be faster?
We are hoping to be at PP HQ early next month to let you know that exact answer
How much ?????
