Calm down Andy sometimes I wonder if Jordan is trying to give you a heart attack with the freaking Topix you are too important to our industry to leave us early keep phone keeping on brother
This is a perfect description of Bayliner and Force! The first brand new boat and motor my dad ever bought. We lived on a lake and he had to wrench on that thing every single time we ever used it, which was almost daily! 18’ boat with an 85hp ran 25mph on a good day with one grown man and two kids!
I still have a force from 1987, owned since 2012. Only plugs. Still has the same compression and never an issue. This boat runs 45. I must have had a good one. It did leak down on tilt. Cost $3.00 worth of off the shelf the rubber to fix, when it was 35 years old.
This video was epic as hell. My dad had a force, had it for about 6 months, literally threw it in a metal bin and went and bought a brand new merc black max and ran that on his boat for about 15 years before he upgraded to a Yamaha.
My local Force authorized repair center loved their motors, they were his highest income source. For a joke I had t-shirts made with a Force motor picture labeled Farce for his clients. It turned out to be his number one merchandise seller.
I had a late model force by Mercury 70 hp. Parts were quicksilver, so that made me feel like it really was a merc. Weak compression on top cylinder, outside of that, it was okay, well and the lower unit leaked too. Lol
My 97 mercury/force 40 hp on my boat has ran great for years. The only things I have had to do is a carb clean and starter besides basic maintenance. Still fires right up at the turn of the key. Definitely a shaky motor at idle but I love it.
I bought my first boat, a 17' Larson with a 130 Mercruiser, in 1989. Not exactly the best boat around, but I recall looking at Bayliners and decided against it specifically due to the Force outboard.
I put a 115 force on the back of a 17' alumaweld.. I loved it! It's a budget carbureted setup, keep it clean and maintained, mine was one that was a good one
I unfortunately owned one, the starter broke itself off the mount. Had it fixed and a month later gasket under the power head failed and was filling the cowling with water submersing the head. All this at under 40 hours, I was new and didn’t know any better. Only the 2nd worse outboard I’ve owned.
A friend of mine bought a bumliner with a farce motor. I gave my opinion of it. He of course said it's a great boat. I haven't heard from him since. I was the best man in his wedding. I hope he's still alive!!!
I have one force 150 hp, and I have 2 mercury’s 200s . We bought the force with our bass boat from 1990 (it’s a bass hawk 1990 model.) do you think we should sell the force and put on the mercury? Or is it worth maxing it out before retiring it?
@TeamMarineService I had it on a older boat I had just to run around the river hog hunting. But it was a damn good motor. Carburetors sucked and had to put one lower unit on it
In 82 my 135 johnson blew up,I was desperate for a motor and I heard about a Chrysler 135 that was new on a pallet for a grand, all the controls, stainless prop, huge 4 cylinder, 3 or 4 carbs, well got it on the boat, fired it up,put some run time, was actually fast, hauled it 3 hours, got a quarter mile from the camp and it quit, the ignition box just quit, put a new one in used it all summer, sold the whole thing,it looks like a model T motor.
good video guys , it would be nice if you did a video about the johnson fast strike 150 since they put them on everything back in the early to mid 90's . thanks guys
Even though I have one I LOLed through this whole thing cuz U Right! When I bought my 1980 bass boat for $3500, it came with a Force 125 on it and whole extra one on a pallet!! Shoulda known I was in for it. 🤣... I blew up the first one after 3 years. I then swapped the powerheads and ran the 2nd powerhead for another year and it blew! Then, I looked and looked for an Opti but couldn't find one in or even near California for under $3000.... So guess what I did? I bought another Force 125 powerhead for $750 on Ebay. So... yeah... Force is a POS but it's my POS! Here's the full side of the glass.. I have fished almost every weekend for 4 years AND I learned how to work on outboards! I HAVE to get one of those shirts!!!!!! Thanks for the video... it made my day!
I love it! The biggest pile of shit ever made, and so many people that honestly thought they were good, until at BEST, second season with it! 🤣 I like the rant Andy! 😂
Not saying I like mine, but I have an '86 125 (since '86) on a '72 glastron that saldly had the original merc 135 lock up. It still runs, but I want to repower before it blows.
There is always that one in a million that refuses to die that virtually had no maintenance. I have personally seen one on the back of a Bayliner capri that looked like it went through a hurricane. Force motors had so much smoke coming from them everyone thought they were on fire.
I recently bought a 98 bayliner with a 90 mercury force on it. Got a great deal runs perfectly perfect interior got it from the original owner. Wish me luck lol a lot a people say the late model ones are great so 🤷. If it goes ow well then ill trough a used 115 merc on it.
I got a neighbor that bought a new in box force 40 hp about 15 years ago He put it on a stick steering 15 ft kingfisher bass boat. He says it’s been a good trouble free motor. Far as I know it’s still running .
Back when the old wedge shaped chryslers were a thing, we ran a boat race sanction called S.O.R.A (Southern outboard racing association). During some speed trials, there was a guy with a Critchfield that officially time clocked 85mph with a stock (powerhead) 85hp chrysler. The trim system was removed, and the engine locked in the perfect AOA, custom lower unit, custom prop, iirc a custom 12" mid-section, everything was lightweight as possible, all the things you see in racing. We couldnt figure out why he ran chryslers, unless he was a dealer but it was fast for the time, mid 1980s
Had a friend that had a 9.9. When he would stop somewhere for a while and try to re-crank the engine, the cowling would literally blow off in the air. He had it serviced and we went out fishing. Told me if it ever happens again he was going to unscrew it from the transom and leave it in the lake. Guess what, WE PADDLED back to the ramp. He was true to his word!
gamefisher 2 stroke 15 hp weighs less than 60 lb. mine has 9.9 decals and pushes my 12ft cartopper to 20 mph i have 2 parts outboards i picked up for 75 a piece i always rebuild the fuel pump and delete the primer ball and they fire right up
I will admit I had a 1998 Astro 172 Fish with a "Merc" Force 120hp back in the day, that I bought used. I had a lot of fun in that boat and caught a lot of fish. Only replaced the starter. Kept my sanity levels in check while I was in the Navy. After a 1.5 years of ownership, I traded the boat and got a new boat with a Yamaha. I have not looked back. My Yamaha will outlive me.
I had a 50 and a 75 same problem with both replaced leaking power head gasket shortly after it was f ed again f ing junk mine was by mercury still junk. Now my dad has an 85 hp gorse by Chrysler f ing junk to. In my opinion mercury took a tired and tried to polish it.
Definitely props to the Force outboard t-shirt making fun of those outboards. I'm somewhat tempted to actually want to buy one of those T-shirts. The problem with creating one to make fun of the Evinrude FICHT is doing so without using any trademarked logos that BRP still owns.
This makes me sad! lol I acquired a free 75hp Force off of a pontoon that they repowered . Was going to try it on a Sea Pro 170cc that I can get cheap $500 with no engine . But now I’m second guessing it! So what outboard would y’all recommend?
😂 they should do a whole Bass tournament where you have to run a Chrysler Force outboard on a Bayliner boat of some type it would be awesome there'd be more people getting towed in then there were contestants
I repaired one for some chick I knew, in hopes of getting a piece….. Didn’t get that piece, but did get two pieces when I dropped the lower unit. Never seen one of them with a two piece driveshaft until that day. What a hunk of shit! Had another one that snapped the top of the crankshaft off where the flywheel nut threaded on. Junk junk junk junk junk!!!! Only took me two of them coming into my shop before I never worked on them again.
I wish you could see my view right now (back of boat force 40 in front of my f150 with the hood up because it has the 5.4 3v) truck needs new engine and now I find out my boat motor sucks! I’m completely defeated 😅
I remember when i was buying my first boat and i was all excited about this lowe fishing boat but had a force motor on it and my dad stopped me. I'll never forget him telling me don't buy ANYTHING with a FORCE motor on it. I ended up with a lund Alaskan with a 60 Yamaha. I paid 12k for it brand new. I can't find a used one for that price anymore. I'll never forgive myself for selling that boat
I had a force 5cyl I think it was a 150hp. Ran good the 3 years I had it. I would never purchase one again knowing what I know now. I was one of the few lucky ones.
Hey i hate to say it but i have a 89 force 50hp and ive never done anything to it but a water pump and cleaned the carb . But ive always waited for the day day it blows up 😂
The memories of my dad and I working on a 40hp force on a 16ft glass stream is the same as the rant in this video. People who haven't experienced the absolute hell it is honestly have no idea 😂
FORCE stands for "F##king Old Rebuilt Chrysler Engine" What about the "L" drive andy? This video really got me laughing. I think you made it just for me. My dad had a mom and pop style repair shop that i started working at outta high school(1983) We were a chrysler dealer, then became a charter force service center when US marine acquired the line in 1984. I have a plaque from US marine proudly stating the fact. I still work on the occasional vintage outboards, 50's and up johnrudes, McCulloch, Distributor ignition chryslers and battery CD electric shift johnrudes. Wont touch a Mag CD force. When one shows up the saying is ,it has a "timing problem ". Time for a new engine.
I guess Chrysler was going to "Force" you to buy their product 1 way or another 😅 I remember Dad was looking at those back in 86, but decided to go with Alumacraft and a 40 Evi. Im glad he never bought that Junk!
we had an 1988 Force 85. Underpowered, sucked fuel, was loud, smoked, but boy did it start every season. Other than maintenance like plugs, water impeller, etc. ours ran for 15 years no major issues. It just worked, but we took care of it.
So funny. I got a 88 50 hp force. I got it for cheap and it has excellent compression. I fixed it up and it runs well. Shakes like a bastard though. Real good motor if you are just getting started in boating for cheap, can find a decent one, and want to learn how to work on outboards becuase they are dirt simple and you will be working on it. I'm enjoying it for what it is and I'll take care of it but boy will i be excited to slap a better motor on it and i will appreciate it.
If the Bayliner/Force combo were produced today, it would be branded Pittsburgh and sold at Harbor Freight.
Hahaha so true!
😂😂
How dare you!

This is the freaking funniest and truest video yet. Growing up on a lake in the late 80s through the 90s seen those blow up almost daily
There is something satisfying to see Andy get all worked up, love it. Makes me feel less alone in the world and have to deal with shit.
We are in this together buddy!
This video was epic as hell. My dad had a force, had it for about 6 months, literally threw it in a metal bin and went and bought a brand new merc black max and ran that on his boat for about 15 years before he upgraded to a Yamaha.
I made a good living working on Force in the 90s. I was Force, OMC, and Merc certified.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 That’s awesome!!! Wonder if he has any still lying around?
I worked for a Bayliner boat dealer in Charleston SC back in the mid 80’s. We sold so many of those pos boats. Pure junk
See a lot of warranty work?
Betty Lou and Timmy are hilarious!
Hahaha they call it Force cuz its gonna Force u to get a new motor!! Great vid, laughed the whole time!!
You got that right!
I had a late model force by Mercury 70 hp.
Parts were quicksilver, so that made me feel like it really was a merc. Weak compression on top cylinder, outside of that, it was okay, well and the lower unit leaked too. Lol
One of the best Team Talks for awhile. Love all the videos. But junk Force was Awesome!
May order a shirt now lol!
Glad you liked it Jon!
Hey the Force motors make really good anchors ⚓️ 👌
My 97 mercury/force 40 hp on my boat has ran great for years. The only things I have had to do is a carb clean and starter besides basic maintenance. Still fires right up at the turn of the key. Definitely a shaky motor at idle but I love it.
Under a certain amount of horsepower they aren't as much like a grenade
Hahahahaha... This episode is classic! I love it when Andy gets worked up!

@@TeamMarineService A used 03 optimax, I can’t bash mercury for it. That motor nickel and dimed me until the day it died.

Ordering the shirt just to wear team marine and force together on a shirt! Andy is the man, love to see him get fired up! Hilarious
I've got a 86 bayliner capri with the force 125hp outboard. I love it because I can't kill it tops my boat about 55 mph and will do it all day long
Hahahahaha Andy made my day! I could not stop laughing! Because it’s true! I have out ran a force with my 1971 9.5HP Evinrude sport twin
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love it! 😂 my local boat mechanics won't even look at my 95! Mine leaks around the bottom currently lol
That whole segment was personal 😂😂😂😂
That comment about the Balsa Liner. Was uncalled for! 😅
I can see a guy trying to pull start his 85hp Force at the ramp in his jean shorts and Voits 😂

" you know how many people died ". " 200 yards boom, row it back in " lmao
My first outboard. The spark plugs didn't have a electrode. I was lucky no issue when I had it.
Wow! Nice
I've had one for the last 20 years, 90hp. Finally blew up last year
Wow you had some good luck with it!
@TeamMarineService I had it on a older boat I had just to run around the river hog hunting. But it was a damn good motor. Carburetors sucked and had to put one lower unit on it

He put it on a stick steering 15 ft kingfisher bass boat. He says it’s been a good trouble free motor. Far as I know it’s still running .
I think all the folks that designed the Force outboards went over to BRP and helped them come up with the Project Ghost Rotax underwater motor.
I’ve got a 99 90HP force and I can’t find anyone to work on the carburetors! It’s on a 98 nitro! Andy dream rig! Lol
Yeah it’s going to be hard to get shops to work on it. Yes that babies my dream right now for sure! Hahaha

Same motor I had. Dad bought it brand new! We never knew if it was going to run or not! Added to the excitement or boating I guess! 😂😂

So what outboard would y’all recommend?
Someone do a video on these Chinese outboards on Amazon and alibaba. (Chinese Amazon)
I don’t think evening harbor freight would sell them to many returns 😂
Probably not!
Tell us how you really feel! 😂😂. Great video.
It was the plymoyh of the waterway
😂 they should do a whole Bass tournament where you have to run a Chrysler Force outboard on a Bayliner boat of some type it would be awesome there'd be more people getting towed in then there were contestants
All of the bass within sight of the landing is getting caught!
First, love you guys, great info!!!

“It’s a Mercury Force.” 😂😂😂

12 now, have the 1994 70hp on my nitro for the last 30 years. Always starts
we had an 1988 Force 85.
