FYI, that's not a sewer he goes in, it's a storm drain to keep the tunnel from flooding in heavy rains. All that you'd expect to be in it is water and whatever debris the water washed into it, so it likely wouldn't smell any worse than the tunnel did, and there wouldn't be any human waste in it.

The fact that the viewer is routing for both the guy on the run and the guy trying to catch him is what makes this one uniquely great. It's really hard to pull that off as well as it's done here. combine that with really well-developed characters and you've got a classic. I will humbly submit 'The Hunt for Red October'' for consideration as another thriller with similar edge-of-seat drama. Cheers.

@Sean H I love the story too. Baldwin wanted 9 million to reprise Jack Ryan and they didn't think he was worth it. Instead of paying 9 million for Baldwin the Producers payed 18 million for Harrison, because he was worth it.

"What I want from each and every one of you is a hard-target search of every gas station, residence, warehouse, farmhouse, henhouse, outhouse, and doghouse..."
Fun Fact: The scene where Kimble is running through the St. Patrick's Day parade was not scripted. This was a later addition by Andrew Davis. Davis, a native of the city, really wanted to capture the parade and was granted permission from the mayor's office to film the day of the parade. The entire sequence was shot with a hand-held steady cam. Without rehearsal, Ford and Jones just went out into the crowd and did their thing, with camera operators running around trying to keep up. Ford observed that since his character was keeping a low profile, it meant he himself didn't stand out much and lasted several minutes in the crowd before being recognized.

The cops were watching the guy, you may have missed it, but he called the Fire Department and reported a fire either in his building or the one across the road. When the fire engine pulled up it blocked PD's view of his building and he slipped out the back.
If you like this kind of corporate corruption style movies, another good one is the Pelican Brief, with Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington

THE FUGITIVE was a great tv series from 1963-1967 with David Janssen as the good doctor and Barry Morse as Gerard. You may want to check that out some time. In the tv series, Kimble actually saves Gerard's ass a few times. Harrison Ford actually broke his leg during the wreck scene. If you look closely, ge walks with a bit of a limo throughout the movie.

The scary thing is that in police work, they often see twisted cases where spouses and family members kill each other, sometimes for no reason at all. The police are required to search every possibility because every possibility has happened before.
What makes Marshal Gerard great, though, is that when the evidence and reason demanded a closer investigation, he didn't hesitate to dig deeper and fond the real villain.

"The Fugitive," much like the classic "Jaws," had script problems for various reasons and so Tommy Lee Jones and Harrison Ford took over the film and saved it. They did massive rewrites and a lot of ad libbed dialog. They even blocked their own scenes.
Spielberg, Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss, and Robert Shaw did the same thing with "Jaws" to save that troubled production.
You cannot say the same for most actors today who just show up, phone it in, and get a fat paycheck.

Originally, Ford and Lee Jones wanted to swap roles, as they felt Lee Jones as Kimble would be more ambiguous. The studio refused, but Tommy got the Oscar anyway. In a similar vein, David Janssen, the original TV Fugitive, wanted the last scene to show that he was actually the one-armed man. This was also refused.

The transit cop who gets shot was played by Neil Flynn, who later played the Janitor on Scrubs. There's an episode of that show where J.D., the main character, watches The Fugitive on TV and recognizes him in that scene, later revealing a backstory for the Janitor where he was a failed actor who never got another acting gig after The Fugitive. I thought that was a really clever meta moment.

Best Chicago movie or T.V. show ever made. None of them ever get Chicago right. They always either try to make it like New York or L.A. This flick did get it right. The accents, the lingo, the attitude the whole personality of the city was finally captured on film.
FUN FACT: This movie was filmed in two of my old neighborhoods on the South Side of Chicago.
The polish ladies' house where he rents out the basement is on 90th & Houston in South Chicago about a-block-and-a-half from my old grammer school. We used to go see them film after school. I watched them shoot the scene where they raid the house. The brief scene where Kimball is shopping for clothes and then runs across a street was filmed on Commercial Avenue; the street I grew up on.
The one-armed-mans' house is on 112th & Saint Lawrence in Pullman. I trick-or-treated at that house as a kid and worked right down the street in high school.

One reason this movie works so well is that the main characters compliment each other. Gerard is a demonstrative, highly experienced law enforcement officer with a team to assist him and lots of resources, while Kimble is a quiet, clever amateur working alone. And they're both absolutely determined to achieve their respective goals. "U.S. Marshals" lacks that sort of balance, as well as having a far too complicated plot.

One of the better adaptations of a hit TV series. This one is based on ABC TV's The Fugitive (1963-1967) starring David Janssen as Dr. Richard Kimble. In the series, a one-armed man played by the one-armed actor Bill Raisch kills Kimble's wife. Kimble is wrongfully convicted of his wife's murder and sentenced to death but escapes from a train wreck and, week after week, tries to find the real killer while avoiding the police and Lt. Gerard played by Barry Morse. The series was nominated for five Emmy Awards and won the Emmy for Outstanding Dramatic Series in 1966.

A rare instance of a movie with _two_ protagonists on opposite sides of the law.

Harrison Ford has been in a lot of movies that aren't Star Wars and Indiana Jones and I feel like those other roles don't get nearly the love they deserve. Try seeing Witness sometime. That's another of his top notch movies.

Now you've gotta watch U.S. Marshals. Sequel to The Fugitive. Tommy Lee Jones and his team back as the same characters. Different case. No Harrison Ford. Wesley Snipes & Robert Downey Jr. It'd be interesting to hear your comparison of the two.

Fun Fact the Director Andrew Davis during the Parade Scene never told anyone involved with the Parade that that they were Filming There except for the Director of the Parade so the looks of the Parade goers shock was genuine

Well, now that you've seen _The Fugitive,_ I think you'll appreciate the movie _Wrongfully Accused,_ which came out five years later. It's a parody, and a _really_ good one.

I really enjoyed your reaction to this film and will investigate others you've done. But I also confess that you also wear me out with your constant banter. I say that with a smile on my face . . . that you put there. You're fun. Keep up the good work.

Want more suspense? "Rear Window" from 1954 starring James Stewart and directed by Alfred Hitchcock could be a good watch for you. Can't wait for your next video 😎

This was a pretty good film when it came out. It was nominated for seven Academy Awards, but the only win belonged to Tommy Lee Jones for Best Supporting Actor.

This is just a really good movie. I first saw this sometime in 1994, when I was a child, and I didn’t understand everything that was going on in the movie at the time. As an adult, I’ve watched this movie a few times and yes this movie goes into the top 100 best movies I’ve ever seen.
And yes, you are very authentic and approaching movies as a product of their time, really enjoyable to watch these reactions of yours.

The train wreck was done for real. The only visual effects in that whole scene were compositing Harrison Ford in when he jumps off the bus and runs in front of the derailed engine. They actually rammed a real train (being pushed from behind, the 2 engines seen on screen had the motors removed) into a real bus. 3 of the 20-odd cameras they had filming it were destroyed (curiously enough, the one inside the bus wasn't, it continued to film for another 8 minutes until the film ran out). You can still visit the crash site in Sylva, NC. The wrecked bus and train engines are still there (they've been sitting there rusting away for the last 30 years, but you can still see them). I have a business trip to Nashville planned for September, and since I've already planned the trip back is going to take 2 days, I'm seriously considering a side trip.

US Marshalls is an indirect sequel to this movie, but has the same police guys. Definitely a must see, the suspense and action is top notch.
