    Tom, I threw my green cloth in the dryer for about 5 minutes and got a lot of those wrinkles out. Also, Wal-Mart carries a Kelley Green paint that matches my cloth perfectly.

    Great video, Tom! I myself have used the plastic tablecloth method up until recently when I got a collapsible portable green/blue screen. It worked pretty good, but only for static shots, and there was a need to use masking to remove hotspot reflections in my composite. The folding screen is easier to light evenly, but make sure you don't have any light source behind it as that will shine through and give you the same problem as plastic.

    It's really cool how one can do a green screen with so little! I remember using a curtain as a green screen for a school project a long time back. It didn't look amazing but it got the job done :P

    Love videos like this. A water spray and hairdryer get a lot of wrinkles out of my proper green screen.
    Because I work with a smaller scale I'm always on the look out for 'stuff' that can be used : Card, felt notice boards, chroma green kitchen chopping boards etc.
    As long as it's a different colour to what you're shooting and you can get the lighting right there are some really cheap alternatives.

    I made my own green screen for under $40 (Canadian). I went to Home Depot and bought a 1" diameter pvc pipe, and cut it up to build a simple stand (also requires some T-connectors and a couple of elbow connectors). I then got a bunch of clips (some of them green plastic) at a dollar store. And finally, I went to a fabric store where I found their end-of-roll section and bought a couple of metres of solid green cotton cloth for about $4. Picked up a similar one of solid blue just in case.

    I used the cloth, in blue green, orange and black.

  • @splotchdog
    @splotchdog 3 роки тому +1

    I will prefer the cloth option. But I miss some stuff in the video...there cheap green screen cloth (also sold in a popular online warehouse) wich features actually some BAD properties to look out for:
    a) semi transparent. If you are hanging it at a wall this is less of a problem, but if you plan to hang it from a stand (with light behind it) this might be problematic Of course you can get around if you got a second back cloth behind it.
    b) textured / patterned... I think they do this to minimize glaring, but at higher resolution this could lead to moiree patterns
    c) glarring, like your pvc cloth despite having textured properties they still might produce glaring. Usually you want go with some rough cloth wich minimizes this.
    I think a good thick green cloth will cost you certainly a bit more than 20 bucks, but saves you a lot of trouble in the long run. Usually I'm a big fan of "buy cheap", but here I think paying a little more (and buy locally to see what you get) is a good investment.

    • @FXhome

  • @Tore_Lund
    @Tore_Lund 3 роки тому

    what about a sheet of white plastic? The thick kind used for medical trash bags. The ida is to light it from behind with a projector showing a green still image. So you can omit the lamps to light the screen from the front, have no reflections and hide the small hotspot from the projector behind the subject?

    • @FXhome
      @FXhome  3 роки тому

      It could work, you'd just want to make sure that the light shining from behind isn't casting a green light onto the actor. This will make it harder to key out because of the spill.
      - Javert

    • @Tore_Lund
      @Tore_Lund 3 роки тому

      @@FXhome The idea was to get a completely homogeneous green color without hotspots, but you are right, it might spillover though it should be dailed down to be no brighter than a front iluminated ordinary greenscreen.
