    Instructions:
    =============================
    In this video I make a green screen (chroma key) using PVC pipe, plastic party tablecloths, and a 2x4.
    First I drilled 1" holes into the 2x4 to act as footings for the 3/4" PVC pipe. I then inserted the 6 foot PVC pipe into the 2x4s and used elbow joints to tie them together with a 4 foot PVC pipe across the top.
    I screwed another 4 foot PVC pipe across the footings to keep a consistent width and prevent the pipe kicking out.
    I then draped 2 layers of 54x108" party tablecloth over the top bar, creating 4 layers total. This provided enough layers to reduce transparency and produce a solid green.
    A few pieces of tape later and the job is complete.

    if you want to use specifically pvc, no tape and no wood for support, you can always use the pvc t-joints and create feet for the stand out of more pvc.

    awesome! after seeing how much money they were I figured there has to be a way to build one cheaply. I'm going to use PVC to make the stands as well

      Sounds good. One suggestion that others have made is to use a fabric material instead of a plastic cloth like I did if you can affordably find some. Real fabric is less reflective and better suited for green screens. See if you can find some on the cheap.

    Excellent DIY; very useful, simple, thrifty, flexible and funny. A little life hack that may be helpful; I keep a dryer sheet in my woolen coat pocket, and lightly run it through my hair when it's statickified.

    This video was very helpful. Since Covid -19, so many meetings are on Zoom and also my family gets together on Zoom calls often. I had purchased the green tablecloths at the dollar store and I am glad that you suggested using 2 because the one did not work well by itself. Also, I have a projection screen from watching home movies years ago and I wondered if you think that I can just tape the tablecloths to that. I am not too handy with a drill but, if necessary, I can learn.

    Recommendation if you don't have a drill and paddle bits: get the T shaped fittings, 3/4" x 3/4" PVC tee and just cut a few more pieces and put that on the bottom, rather than drilling and cutting wood. All can be done with ratcheting PVC cutters, can be found for $5 or so.

    Do you think something from a fabric store would also be viable as a green screen?

    • @geraldundone
      @geraldundone  5 років тому +1

      Totally. Try and get something as far from human skin tone as possible. Fabric is better in many ways because of the way it absorbs light better than the cheap stuff I was using.

    • @geraldundone
      @geraldundone  6 років тому

      Yeah, from my experience and research the big difference between good green screen and bad green screen is all in the lighting. Gotta try and make the green as even as possible regarding shadows and bright spots.

    • @smeltelf
      @smeltelf 6 років тому

      Gerald Undone well lighting is def my issue, however I changed it up and went with neon green poster board paper I glued onto a big piece of cardboard. Works good for what it is. Now just get the lighting and I'm golden.
