Yeah it's kind of weird, I've never had problems with the new hi-hats on the strike pro se. And then other people have lots of issues with it. Maybe this is the reason who knows. Thanks for making the video
Hey, so i had the spinning problem and found a simple solution. I have a tama 200 stand. I tried the tightinig ofthe rod. Didn't work. I tried setting the pad into the indentation and also didn't work. I tried making every piece of hardware as tight, loose and everywhere in between and also didn't work. Until i figured out the problem. The black piece of foam that sits right between the clutche and pad is too thicc. So i cut it in half with a kitchen knife, re installed it, and that did the trick!. Hasn't spinned at all ever since!.
I just got my kit yesterday and the hi hats were driving me crazy. I thought I had a bad hi hat cymbal but this tip fixed my problems. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Unbelievable! I have owned the strike Pro SE for over a year now. The disappointment of the kit was not being able to figure out how to get a better performance over the hi-hat. After several failed attempts and trying to reconfigure settings, your advice made all the difference. Cheers! Thanks for taking the time to upload your video. Much Appreciated!
Thanks for posting this! I've been playing a Roland TD10 set for 20+ years and considering the Alexis Strike Pro SE...but this whole hi hat issue has totally scared me away. After watching this, I'm feeling better about the Alesis kit.
Great video man!!! That was literally the problem. I had my clutch tight like an acoustic hat. As soon as I loosend it, that solved my problem. Now it feels natural, and responds naturally . Thank you for sharing. ✌️
This is a great video with solutions rather than complaints. I have a converted acoustic kit that I bought and originally came with a TD-12 module and VH-11 HH. I swapped out to a strike module (still with the VH-11) and had no issues with factory settings. I eventually ended up having issues and realized soon after it was my HH setup on the stand. Long story short, I had no idea I had a separate adjustment knob on my HH that kept spinning and causing chaos. In my opinion, anything with edrums is usually module related and you can figure it out given enough time, and if that fails, check your setup, especially on kits where you need a separate HH stand.
I have SE kit arriving tomorrow, I've read years of complaints about hi-hats on Strike Pro V1/V2. Yes, I would have torqued the crap out of the top lock as we would expect to do? This will be the first thing I try my man! Great video! Thank you sir!
You have the Night Ride Drum Modules . i only ave 2 Yamaha Modules one is DTX 2. and made my own Switch o my high hat using a vintage Ludwig stand and an upside down 1/4 female jack headphone jack on the clutch acting as the open and close switch. using bass dampened high hat cymbals ,and took out all the towers inside each drum as they start to lean over in time and just redo them it Roland style
What a beautiful Parrot You have we have 4 of them and a finch. they are kind to my drumming and i careful how on the volume of my Drums. and they are pleased
Oh, the good ol classic "I keep my cymbals way too tight on my acoustic kit, so let me do the same on my electric kit" leave it to the amateurs to make amateur mistakes and tarnish the reputation of a solid piece of gear. LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK! thank you for making this video and creating a solution for these people that keep spreading ignorant takes on nice gear. Not trying to be too harsh, but this almost made me not want to purchase this kit. I'm definitely grabbing one now that I've heard it's just people not knowing what they're doing that are the ones complaining. RIP to all the acoustic cymbals the people own that left a bad product review on these beautiful kits 😂😂😂
It's not that deep bro, no one is trying to "tarnish" anything. It's as simple as not knowing how an electric kit works and using prior knowledge from their acoustic kits. 🤦🏾♂️
I had that ghost note issue with mine...Alesis replaced the hi hat pad and it behaved the same way. I finally got frustrated and bought a Roland VH-10 which works like a charm! Yours is behaving much better than I could ever get mine to.
Hmmm just curious, did you experience that ghosting on every kit, or was it on the default 1st kit? Reasoning, I also noticed a difference when I made one of my cymbals an aux hihats, its crystal on strikes, wondering if there is a sampling issue being amplified. Maybe try new felt on the clutch will help?
Hello, there’s no gap at all meaning the relations to the felt. I have my hi hat stand opening at normal comfort range. Just enough to give you a nice chick. Hope that helps!
I've tried everything once I seem to get it right. I save it and it seems to change from time to time. I've now gone back to using acoustic symbols and high hat. Because I just can't get things right. My biggest problem with the high hat is when you open it and Closed I can't seem to get A smooth transition from closed to open I'm pulling my hair out over this.Because I wanna use the set in its full potential Do I actually need to go into easy drummer to use their parameters? I'm not very technical, so this stuff is really hard for me. If you're in my area in Jacksonville, Florida, I would even pay for somebody to come and actually help me do this.
Question, have you played with the pedal offset under triggers? If not, I would spend a few minutes thereby spending the wheel and seeing if that helps. Sounds like the offset is different from what you are hearing or feelings.
Having my hats screw tight has been fine. My problem is that I have no semi open control. Its either closed or open. But will have to try this when I'm at my kit.
You can adjust the offset on the pedal setting area under the hi-hat pedal in the trigger area. You can set how much slash or decay as well. I haven't had to make any tweaks.
Going to go and try this I have the opposite problem I can hit the pad but nothing comes out its very random, also when splashing the hats fast then hitting them its dead for a beat, beginning to really dislike the hi hat, an old Roland pad with the foot trigger works better, may be i should get onto Alesis maybe i have a faulty pad.
Thanks for the tip. I'll have to go try it. Any chance you could tell me what the factory settings are? I've messed with it so much, I can't remember how it was originally set?
Mr. Clay, thank you. It seems all the vids I've watch have a very "touchy" calibration to the bottom disc of the clutch. This seems to be required while watching the brain and getting 2 arrows to light up. Is your "loose" approach to the clutch rings forgoing that calibration? I can only see that there might be an adjustment bottom ring, and in addition, a top ring to secure the bottom ring's position by tightening. True or false?
Hi Harold, I have no adjustments to my module, it’s factory. My hihat stand has med to high tension causing no added weight on the bottom disc. So there’s no false triggering. When I set the kit up after purchase, I approached it like other electronic kits in the past, tighten the hat clutch (stop cymbals from spinning) on top so it don’t move naturally. By loosen up and allowing the natural vibration to go through, my phantom triggers went away immediately. The little knob (male) underneath the bottom clutch fits into the gap and allow the cymbal to semi spin without 360.
Have the same kit for over 2 years now it's amazing kit. But I still have problems with the hi-hat only frustration with it. I know Roland think just come out with a new hi-hat and apparently it's Superior to every electronic hi-hat it operates exactly like a real acoustic hi-hat. Only problem is it's $1,400 for the hi-hat
Couple of things I would try. Get away from the Big Bird Kit hihat if you are using them. I believe there’s a flaw in the edge sound sample. Turn the delay down on the bow settings. I’ve had to adjust the pedal offset settings. Try importing new hihat samples. Those are some of the things I’ve messed with and hope that helps. Mannnn, $1400 for some hats smh… I’ll add my real hats and mic it up first lol…
@@ClayFunk appreciate the advice and info. Even though I've had my kit for 2 years still learning the tech of it more of a casual drummer just when I have time to play I work a lot LOL. And with that high hat I've seen videos it looks like it acts just like an acoustic hi-hat but yeah $1,400 that's like half of the price of this kit.
I owned this Kit when it first came out. The hi-hats were terrible as 1.4 fixed that entire issue. When you play heel toe heel toe notes, its a must that this is tightened. I'd like to see you play more technical to say not to tighten that screw because you you played a gig you would have to tighten that screw after every song. I'd like to see you solo or play more technical and get your opinion on that screw. Not to knock what works for you according to your paying style, but that screw "SHOULD" be tightened all the way. ijs...From a pro to another player I'd never advise not tightening that screw.
I noticed you call yourself a critic journalist. I’ve received 100’s of agreements saying that at least my two cents have helped. What works for me may or may not work for others. I notice your kit is the older model with the dual hi-hats, do you have the newer model hats; just curious if your opinion is based off 1.6? As far as your last statement, if you’ve ever watched videos of other drummers (one that sticks out Steve Smith solo) if a person was performing the slushy wobbly hi-hat foot stump, then you wouldn’t be so cap locks about over tightening felts.
Clay, I'm not saying your information didn't help anyone and it's great if did. As a drummer, It's not a good thing when you have to screw your hats back in place every song. Alesis created a great feel with the Strike versions as the only thing that changed was the bass drum. All other hardware to the kit the same as some updated functions have changed on the module. I say for the company to have created the sizes for the feel drummers get and direction Alesis can still take this kit, they should hire someone like Vinnie colaiuta to work with the programmers on future firmware updates and have him do the tutorial.
