Psychology of Electronic Drum Set Playing
love the dog chillin' to the groove
That’s the way it’s always been.
User error is a common thread to a lot of these things. Great vid!
Thank you 🙏🏾
Man I love your video's.I need to take another trip.Wish we were closer.Could use your help with my drums.
I've tried everything once I seem to get it right. I save it and it seems to change from time to time. I've now gone back to using acoustic symbols and high hat. Because I just can't get things right. My biggest problem with the high hat is when you open it and Closed I can't seem to get A smooth transition from closed to open I'm pulling my hair out over this.Because I wanna use the set in its full potential Do I actually need to go into easy drummer to use their parameters? I'm not very technical, so this stuff is really hard for me. If you're in my area in Jacksonville, Florida, I would even pay for somebody to come and actually help me do this.
Question, have you played with the pedal offset under triggers? If not, I would spend a few minutes thereby spending the wheel and seeing if that helps. Sounds like the offset is different from what you are hearing or feelings.
Love this set up as a right hand player
This how I set up and I’m a righty
That's awesome,Only shark's I've seen are nurse sharks, as I usually dive in Cozumel
I've been to Cozumel numerous times when I was playing drums on cruise ships. Now that I am advanced working on rescue, its a buckle. 💪🏾❤️ congrats!
You have no idea how much this meant to me, you’re a god. Thank you
I can dig it brother. 👍😎
Much appreciated
That dog at the end was diggin the groove 😊
😁💪🏾❤️
Awesome drumming, dude! Sounds really good too, especially if those are 'out of the box' sounds? 🙂
They are stock module sounds! Thanks!
What size the first two toms?
8” Tom
@@ClayFunk 8x? By
It’s approximately 3” 1/4 I believe…
@@ClayFunk thanks brother ❤️💯
Dude! that looks sick!
Ah I dig that look of the new wrap
Do you still teach drum lessons ?
Greetings, please send me a note in contacts www.claytonturnage.com lets talk!
👏👏👏👏
Just get a used Roland VH13 hihat and you will be fine.
Strata prime uses a hall effect sensor to read a magnet's position. It is much more of a linear signal and more responsive than a FSR (force-sensitive resistor) which the Strike Pro SE uses. The only downside is that a hall-effect sensor is active in that it requires power (generally 5v) to operate where a FSR is passive and requires no additional power. I've created an arduino solution that allows a hall-effect sensor with the Stirke Pro SE and it is worlds better.
👀 that sounds cool 😎
So cool!
I thought you were a cool guy, now I know you are.I'm playing a strike pro se at church, and I'm a diver too.Love your videos
@chuckscrone7182 🤟🏾💪🏾❤️ sounds like we need to plan a trip lol
@@ClayFunk That would be awesome.Get some instructions on this drum kit from the master
@@chuckscronce7182 lol no master here! Ole sayin, once you think you've arrived its time for a new craft lol...
@@ClayFunk Aah,you're the man
Roland TD50X , Digital Snare, Digital Ride, newest gen no hot spots pads, Drummer Superior 3 is the best setup for edrums if anyone wants the best setup by a long shot. All others are toys in comparison. No I don't work for Roland.
Why spend all that money on a TD50x just to purchase more softwares? That let you know the sounds are sub par; you can save time and money.
Strata > strike pro. It's the new flagship, I'll bet they're gonna be phasing out support for strike pro soon.
I just got the strata and I personally don't use the bell on the hats. Good info for folks out there that are looking for solutions you address, good work!
This is a valid question and good topic. I agree. I’m a Roland kind of guy so I don’t have the Strike anymore but I think definitely for Alesis Strike owners they should have made a new firmware to make the new hats compatible with the Strike. But if you want a new hat maybe try some of the Roland Hi Hats, Drum Tec, or GoEDrum. There’s some great off brand companies out there as well.
I wonder, what if upgrade Strike Pro SE with new module and a hi-hat, how will other triggers work?
Only thing you may run into is zoning. You might not get 3 zone on certain things unless you switch over to 3 zones.
I have the Strike Pro and the hi-hat is absolutely garbage imo. I’ve tried messing around in the settings but can’t get it to sound right. The volume for closed and open doesn’t match. And it does not function like an actual hi-hat at ALL when opening / closing it. My ride bell also stopped working less than a year into owning the kit. And my mesh bass drum head got a hole from my plastic beater within a year as well. To fix that I put Evan’s patches on the front AND back of the replacement head and it’s holding up much better now.
Have you messed with the VEL (velocity) setting 99=soft and 0=loud many people miss that one. The Strata is not going to work with the SE which is a disappointment. One would’ve thought Alesis would invest into the former flagship. So we would have to spend $1600 + instead of make upgrades.
I'm also a Strike Pro SE user and am interested in the Prime kit.
For us, do you agree with changing out the hats first, if the prime allows?
What a beautiful Parrot You have we have 4 of them and a finch. they are kind to my drumming and i careful how on the volume of my Drums. and they are pleased
You have the Night Ride Drum Modules . i only ave 2 Yamaha Modules one is DTX 2. and made my own Switch o my high hat using a vintage Ludwig stand and an upside down 1/4 female jack headphone jack on the clutch acting as the open and close switch. using bass dampened high hat cymbals ,and took out all the towers inside each drum as they start to lean over in time and just redo them it Roland style
Smiles Doggy look so happy :)
wondering when You are gonna change the tower cones inside the shells in time :)
Hopefully a very long time from now due to my facility and playing, I rely on rebounding versus burying the stick into the drum below the surface (when you see drum heads with dents) that’s from drummer playing below the surface.
@@ClayFunk Well good you play relaxed which is the key that most people miss, You also play very nice where did Your 8 inch tom disappear to i seen it then it was gone in the video ? i hope to set mine up more the way You have it and put most of the drums on the shelves too i not gonna play on a thousand Drums i usually like 2 to 3 hang toms and 2 floor Toms and a snare and the 22 inch Bass 1 high hat a ride a crash and a splash. i also like to have one extra tom not too far form the snare kind of like Dave Weckl has his kit set up i recently added a Ludwig Accent Drive Red Sparkle 5-Piece Drum Set i pout the 2 tons where my Alesis use to be. i am so undecided even though i finally have a 22 inch bass i converted and feel like i have a complete Alesis Strike kit i am (all converted to electronic) i am still so undecided on a lot even though i love the 16x16 Floor tom and the Bass Drum more i have not decided yet to keep the two huge hang toms or use the Alesis on rack like YOU have it i guess i miss the old days of Gretch and Ludwig i use to have along with a Zildjian Ride Sizzle i miss a lot as well and hard to find a real one. i bought my new Ludwig too fast finding out it is a beginner kit. but i converting it anyways. and the Cymbals are terrible my friend called me on the phone he thought i was making dinner and cleaning pots as i was testing out the high hats omg they are terrible from that Ludwig kit i got. smiles
@@ClayFunk im the same i dont bury i rely on bounce as well and comfort. also never had to replace drum heads ever
That is a Dream set up for me for sure but for me too many cymbals . but the drum count just right even the floor tom on the left . reminds me a bit of Dave Weckl Set up. i love it. oh and You play very nice too
Thank you! 🙏🏾
Thank you
That sounds fantastic, so relaxed. Wich set are you using, is it standard?
Hello, I using the Alesis Strike pro SE
Hi Clay, I mean what drum sounds do you use. It sounds great! Very relaxed playing, compliments. @@ClayFunk
Thanks, I only use the module sounds no VST like EZ Drummer. I use the rear outputs from the module and mix.@@duvalleke
Great, sounds super!!@@ClayFunk
Can you cover drum kit settings would love to match your kit
Yes, please check out my other videos posted, my settings are mentioned.
It sounds great and you know what you're doing! Keep it up!
This was a great explanation. Thank you for posting.
Dude, thank you so much for this video. Truly wasn't expecting this! The kick drum came in today, but the rest of the kit is still on the way lol. So yes I think I'll go the extra module route, I'd rather not have to deal with the phantom triggers. It'll be a few months before I expand, but I'll definitely reference this video when I do!
My problem with that music is that forever and ever I will hear in my head « hello ! This is chef John from food wishes wiiithhhh… » 😂 That being said, this sets looks real nice, I wish I had a room to spare to install such a beast
I just recently purchased this set. I was told by the salesman it wasn't really possible to expand to the size you have. Any chance you could do a walkthrough on your setup? Nice chops too :)
No I hadn't! I'm going to check it out now! Thanks@@FranklandMusicGroup And thank you Clay!
sales man is wrong You do what You want even expand Your rack. maybe salesman wanted t go home early that day.
Thank you for YOU order? 😂 Great sounding kit, Alesis getting better and better. I agree, set up your module decently, and you don't need vst's, can never understand why people spend so much money on a kit, and then don't even use the module.
Lol… 🥴🤷🏾♂️ You hit the nail on the head! 💪🏾❤️
@@ClayFunk 👍🏻
good content
very cool set up Clay
NICE KIT
Now that is beautiful, but how do you have so many extra cymbals?
You have to run dual modules of some sort. Check out my other videos and it will help 🙏🏾
How do you like your strike kit? I had a nitro mesh then upgraded to a crimson 2 SE. It's a great kit but it has a few shortcomings like the snare occasionally double triggering, the bass pad not being sensitive at lower dynamics, the ride bell zone having a very small sweet spot, and the cymbal chokes having very specific grab points. Part of me wants to upgrade again to the strike pro, another part of me wants to just give up on alesis and go Roland.
Sound like you just need to make adjustments to settings to person taste. As mentioned in my psychology of electric drumming video. One must become one in the electronic ecosystem. Acoustics will never be electric and electric will never be an acoustic. Hope that helps! 🙏🏾
I played one at guitar center and man they feel good! Also I love how perfect you have it set up. Nicely done! what kind of beaters are those?
Thank you sir! Those are DW SM105.
Thanks for posting this! I've been playing a Roland TD10 set for 20+ years and considering the Alexis Strike Pro SE...but this whole hi hat issue has totally scared me away. After watching this, I'm feeling better about the Alesis kit.
Semper Fi brother, keep on drumming!
