Huge props to Fabi coming onto the pod after such a long - and amazing - job doing commentary during the day. Fabi: your commentary is just superb. Responding to Tania's questions about so many off-the-board and psych questions, jumping in an instant to lines on the board, seeing deep into the position and the ideas for both sides, and making it all so easily accessible to us fans/patzers. Such good stuff. Really appreciate it. I also have to say, although it wasn't your year in the candidates, I really hope we'll have a chance to see you back at the table competing for the title again some time in the future. With Magnus ceding the title, it seems to me its very much up for grabs and you'd be as worthy as anyone else in the top 5 or 10 to claim it. Best wishes!
I used to constantly google “Fabiano Caruana podcast” just to see if he’d been on any that I could listen to. I would lookup Fabi interviews and I think I’ve seen them all. He’s been my favorite player since I started paying attention to chess, just an all around class act and an absolutely fantastic chess player. I’m so glad we get this podcast’s content nowadays, and of course his commentary during the world championships has been and continues to be wonderful. Thank you Fabiano and Cristian for delivering so much content to us
Fabi has the unique talent that imo even the goat magnus doesn't posses, to translate & communicate well to the amateur player whilst also being a super gm
If Fabi explains better than Magnus it's probably just because he's American and therefore his English is much better than Magnus'. Let's make Fabi explain it in Norwegian and see how he does 😅
Amazing. Christian does a great job complimenting Fabi! And Fabi is able to speak like a polished, edited, published author--while the rest of us (except for Christian) speak in rough draft at best.
I really liked the game. Sharp and very interesting. And the ending was really hard fought. I think there's more life in the lines that retain the d pawn for black but it was very strong play from both sides. Best game of the match possibly.
I’m addicted to Fabi’s commentary. It’s so fascinating to hear him break down positions and provide such high level insight. Amazing to have one of the highest rated players of all time providing us with free content.
Thanks so much for the recaps guys, and thanks for the hard work Fabi. Absolutely fantastic content, I'll be watching each of these more than once for sure!
Now I see why Ian was disappointed in not winning Game 9. He has Ding's leaks, he has Ding after Ding had two bad games and Nepo has white and leading by one point, and yet Nepo could only muster a draw with white.
Both Ding and Nepo think they are the better player which means they both go for the throat every game. That intensity has resulted in the most exciting world championship in years.
Very rare to have these kinds of high-level recaps where a top player lays out the thinking process behind moves. Due to computers, this part of Chess culture has gotten rather rare. I still don't think that many understand the difference between what the engine says is the best move vs. actual 'Practical play' OTB. Much appreciated!! But you still need Yasser to make this perfect...
While it’s great to have Favi commenting live, for those who cannot watch the live broadcast it’s a big miss now having such a short recap…not blaming Fabi of course after he spent so many hours live he can’t make a 1:30h recap
What do you mean ? The broadcast is and has always been available at all times to (re)watch. Why would you even consider blaming anyone (let alone Fabi) for a non-issue ?
@@maloxi1472 the broadcast is many hours long and live commentary is something else than an analysis later on. Not blaming ..just saying that I enjoyed the 1 - 1,5h recaps which now due to Fabis commentary duties where shortened
Love that Fabi is on board to do commentary but any coverage with an eval bar simultaneously is unwatchable, it affects his job as a commentator and also denies the viewers an undisturbed peak into the mind of a great player
@@joedorben3504 Nepo didn't even have +1 advantage in the whole. Yes, he was slightly better but he didn't make accurate moves. And also, Ding defend it very well until the end.
@@joedorben3504 Ding is a single win away from tying things up with 5 games to go. Obviously he's at a disadvantage but the match is by no means over.
Thank you so much! Honest question for Fabi: How do you deal emotionally with commentating on a match you may have wanted to play yourself? Can you put all those feelings aside, or is there some regret/jealousy mixed in? Have a great time!
With 4 wins for white in a row, it’s fair to say that “defense” has been a bit lacking. Ding underperformed in the previous game. - So, that he held of a very sharp attack is pretty good.
The player with the black pieces has been in trouble throughout the match, lots of Ls given to the one with black. Ding had also been through a couple heartbreaking games where he was winning but then 1) lost, basically running out of time and 2) drew So him holding here is pretty big for the overall match. If he can win (which normally would not sound so simple, but there have been a LOT of decisive games especially for white this match) the next game it'll be all tied up and exciting perhaps to the end
Very nice video, but a click-baity title. I generally unsubscribe from click-baity channels because click-bait is everywhere and I need to protect myself. I'll stick around and see if it happens again. I expect it will because I'm just one unimportant voice. And then unfortunately I'll unsub.
Love when Fabi commentates the WCC, hopefully it boosts this podcast. An undervalued podcast. 😍😍

I'm rooting for him in the next candidates!

He needs to return to his peak form first. No disrespect to him but he's lost like 70 elo over the last couple of years.

Dude who is this Caruana guy he seems to know something about chess?
I think there was a Kasparov game against Anand where the (former?) G.O.A.T. also won a pawn on h6 but only drew.
Would it be possible to add how long it took them to make the moves or just a time stamp?
many thanks fabi ! great recap

Fabi, if leak doesn't matter, why don't players just openly put online their preps, and even hold in secret some members of their teams?))
He didn’t say leaks don’t matter. He said this leak of some training games doesn’t matter.

NO HE DIDN'T!

I know it’s technically a draw, but this was a HUGE win for Ding imo. Rooting for my baby boy to win this year 😊😊
To win what? Not this match, that's pretty much gone by now. Barely escaping with a draw after the two horrible previous games is not a win in any way
Lol nepo will destroy him tomorrow with black
I agree in this sense: had Ding lost today, it would be a fait accompli for Nepo. This way, he is still alive, and can even up on the next game.

Oh, clickbait. Kewl.
It was quite the impressive draw, a very important game to hold defensively

when people actually celebrate the fact that you didn't lose for once... something is seriously going wrong in the match for him
With 4 wins for white in a row, it’s fair to say that “defense” has been a bit lacking. Ding underperformed in the previous game. - So, that he held of a very sharp attack is pretty good.
