Yeah, those types of silent paw killers appear after you play these types of openings with those pawn structures. Ding managed to force Ian to use time tactics and to not overthink this position.

@@tonyb9735 the only reason this is even close is because Ding got fucked over my a pandemic harder than any chess player alive. Before the pandemic he was very clearly stronger than Ian. So yes from a chess point of view he should win because he should have been better and if he loses it’s because of unlucky outside influence. And in that time he has been screwed over and was forced to play at night in full lockdown and horrible conditions etc he has been through so much more than Ian so from that side he also deserves it way more.

Hikaru! I love how you greet and say goodbye with a big smile! You talked about Nepo playing fast on this game and game 3, but he also played really fast on game 5, the main difference could be that he was playing white and studied all the moves he should be doing?

I feel like this is what makes players like Magnus and Kasparov such great champions, their defensive abilities and being able to spend the time when needed to find the best moves is second to none. I remember when Short has Kasparov under immense pressure in ‘93 and Garry kept finding defensive resources.
