@Underground Guy I think Danny was better than even Aikman but he didn’t always have the weapons Troy did. After Drew Pearson was forced to retire after a car accident, Danny didn’t have a good tandem of receivers. As much as I loved Tom laundry, he should have never benched Danny for Gary Hogeboom. Danny wasn’t the reason the Cowboys didn’t make the super bowl.
If White had not sustained a season-ending injury against the Giants in game 9, it's very likely the Cowboys would have made the playoffs at least as a wildcard. But he did, and so they ended up with a losing season. That's how important he was to Dallas by that late stage of his career.
I truly wonder what would have happened to the 86 Cowboys if Danny White had not gotten hurt in week 9. The Cowboys were leading the league offensively to that point and 6-2. With Pueller, the useless piece of garbage, the Cowboys offense totally failed, and the team finished 1-7. I don't think the Cowboys had enough defense and the OLINE was bad. But with White, the Cowboys had more than enough offensive weapons to at least finish 10-6 that year.
@@ricktheitalianrebel6687 Do you think its a fair assessment of Sherrard from just one season in Dallas? I agree Irvin is awesome and HOF! But it was really unfortunate what happened to Mike Sherrard
@@donaldpennington7646 Not basing anything in one year. He played in the NFL through 1996 to include 4 years ( 1989-1992 )with the powerful pass oriented 49ers. And, he proved to be a good but not great Receiver.
@@ricktheitalianrebel6687 yes. I know he played more years after with other teams! And he was still good. I just would have like to seen him without the injury in those following years in Dallas! His injuries are why Landry drafted Irvin in 88. Landry knew he needed a receiver that could stretch the field to rebuild. After losing Donley after 84 their wasn't a real speed receiver in 85. Renfro was a very good possession receiver and Hill was in his last years. Sherrard was the right pick in 86 for that
Sherrard had so much talent but I he broke his leg multiple times. I remember he ended up in San Francisco and was on the team that Dallas beat in the 92 NFC championship game, but he broke his again in like his 2nd year there. I clearly remember him getting tripped up in training camp when he played for the Cowboys. There was some news coverage and he fell on his back and both the tibia and fibula broke. You could see it just snap. Then I think he broke it again in the off season while jogging for rehab. I don't know if he had some kind of congenital thing or what but I've never seen anyone break their leg just from falling to the ground. It might have broke when he was tripped and might have just got worse when he hit the ground. In SF he broke it during a game and I remember he walked to the sideline. It was so sad because he was going to be one of those special guys.
White broke his wrist against the Giants, and Steve Pelluer came in and was just a train wreck. This was the beginning of the end for those Cowboys. Just 3 years later Jerry bought the team and Landry was let go.
I'm just being a hard ass, but a great coach would have been able to steal 4 games even if your starting QB was out. Herschel no disrespect to Tony D. Landry was pretty much using Dorset as a moving part Herschel in 86 was everything to offence. Not sure but the defence broke down the stretch of the season.
One of the commentators mentions that Doug Cosbie wasn’t catching as many passed in 86. That has nothing to do with Cosbie. That had to do with the heavy reliance on the running game in 86. In hindsight, even though Herschel Walker was awesome, they should have kept the passing and running game somewhat balanced.
Danny White was an awesome quarterback. My favorite Cowboys quarterback of all time.
Overrated

Danny White took the Cowboys to 3 straight NFC Conference appearances.
Mike Sherrard was such a talented receiver! Its a shame due to injuries that we didnt get to see more of him in Dallas after 86.
Yes, but we may not have drafted Michael Irvin is Sherrard was still active. And Irvin was better.

Love them Cowboys
I love the numbers on the pants. Wish they'd bring that back to the uniform.
Brings back so many good memories

I remember this game. If you had told me after this they would finish 7-9 I would’ve said “you’re crazy”.
@1018miamidrive Would not have happened if White stayed healthy.

King Kong Bundy and Hillbilly Jim!
Too me Tom Brady's throwing motion and how he surveys the field is a lot like Danny White.
I just made a similar comment the other day.
I agree. He was Brady before Brady became Brady.
He could’ve been something special but two broken legs. Not at the same time but stole his speed.
yep, terrible luck

Danny white great quarterback I think he better tony Romo but lot people didn't see danny play .
Way better than Romo
Sherrard had hof talent
