the guys at Dead On are absolutely amazing people! they did however tell me and my brother to not use the infrared thermometers because it only reads the surface temp, not the internal correctly. they recommended a digital thermometer (can find in the bbq section at walmart) that reads to at least 500 degrees Fahrenheit. you wont read that high hopefully in the plastic. with a probe thermometer you can get to the center of the plastic, there will be a temp difference that can make or break a good set of lures. we go by everything else you teach. not knocking in any way, you’ve taught us so much and are extremely thankful for it.
Im new to bait making, i just picked up my first run of materials from Dead On and ill be making videos over time learning as i go. All thanks to you and this channel. I enjoy watching you videos.
@@breakupsandsuccess5773 it's called plastisol, I tried cheap stuff from Amazon, don't do it. Just get dead-on plastic and you'll be happy. I just started a couple weeks ago and am starting to catch bass, sea trout, and flounder on lures ive made. It's extremely satisfying.
Chris, I started watching your channel this winter and since then have started making my own soft plastics. I really appreciate you taking the time to help new folks like myself learn the tricks and tools of the trade.
I’ve been making inline spinners (Muskie size and smaller) for 10 years and have been thinking about pouring soft plastics now. I’ve had no idea on how to do it and didn’t care to waste money experimenting. You’re video has been very informative! You have a new subscriber here too. I look forward to watching more of your videos. I haven’t completely made up my mind on making soft plastic lures yet, but your very informative video is encouraging. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for all this. I work as a fishing guide on my off duty time and I think making my own baits for my clients to use is going to be a great addition.
Sorry about a past comment about silicone. I have just started playing with Plastisol and learned something interesting. If I put a little fish oil in before cooking, it foams up but settles with stirring. No biggie because I was only pouring onto a flat plate to make something to cut up and mimmic bait to put on a hook like bits of fish. Like your videos :)
Hey Chris. I've watched all of your videos over the past 3 months. I had been thinking about injecting my own baits for the past 2+ years but a lot of the other videos I watched made me change my mind, because it seemed very complicated. Watching your videos changed my mind and I've been injecting and learning through trial and error for over a month now. If not for your videos I probably never would've taken the plunge and I definitely would be struggling with injecting effectively at the very least. I'm still learning, but you have put me way ahead of the curve with your great videos. Thank you Brother and God Bless you and your family.
@@WorldsWorstFishing Thank you sir. I just got my dual injector yesterday and tried my hand at laminates. That mixing block is a lot more tricky than just single injector. If I hadn't been wearing my gloves, when I made my second shot I would've been in the ER probably with 3rd degree burns to my left hand and it was still pretty warm, lol.
Appreciate the tips . I will finally be able to start pouring next week. And I feel you have already saved me money and time by pointing out the little things that I know I would have messed up!
I just joined your cast. I’ve made my own baits before and am wanting to get back into it. I’m really enjoying your videos and REALLY learning a lot. Thank you very much. I’m SHARED. Loved the patriotic baits.
I've found that you have to take it from the bucket quickly after stirring. If you let it sit for even 10-20min like I thought to help the microbubbles purge it will split and you'll take plastisizer from the top. I also use a 5gal igloo cooler with a spout for my plastic now that takes it from the very bottom. I've found these tips help like crazy
Ive kinda found the opposite in my case...I stir once a day...even if I make baits 5 hours later I dont have to re-mix and it does cut down on those initial bubbles. I like the spout idea you got
Great vid. My son and I have been making worms for about a year now. Your vids are what got us going. This vid was a fun refresher, easy to watch. Good stuff...Thanx
Really cool that you show this 👌, can't begin to tell you how much you have helped me with pouring/injecting...and not scorching plastisol Really good advice
Basically I learned about soft plastic bait making from your first two how to for beginners videos. From there I watched a lot of other videos. I think the information and presentation you give is by far the best. I highly recommend your videos when I see other beginners ask how to learn. This is an excellent addition to the learning series. It went nicely with a Paulaner Oktoberfest this evening.

Try stirring in a figure 8 motion it’s a little slower but, it’ll help mix all your colors and flakes even better, and help fight the bubbles as well as scooping the edges of the cup. Great content, love the info and details you give us all
Outstanding video tutorials and thanks for making them. I’d like to know your thoughts on heating the soft plastic via a simple cooking-pot on a hot plate or something like that?
When burping your injector tilted up a little bit and press on the handle we'll see the air escaping from the ejector that way you never have to worry about air bubbles injected into the mold

I'm trying to decide if this stuff would be decent for ballistic gel.
I would imagine if you got the most rigid dense plastisol they have it would work pretty good. I wouldn't get to soft finess stuff.
You could shoot a block of it and it would blow up pretty cool but this stuff isn't ballistic gelatin...
Very informative! Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions and clarify for us who are new to this.
