When I was young, I wish my teachers talked like this guy, I would have payed far more attention. I hope the kids find him.
That's hilarious because I listen to these when I go to bed lol
I get that. But you're asking for a high standard of voice. xD teachers are only human.
I had a history teacher just like this awesome guy speaking 😊she's the reason I love history
“Paid” should have listen well my guy.
@@ObjectiveEthicscame here to say this
Truly an incredible channel. This is what the History Channel should be. ❤
It was before reality TV.
What’s the matter you don’t like big shrimpin’ or ice road truckers season 34 or swamp people? 😂
@@Benmeglei1No, we don’t
@@luckilewwas going to say the same thing
Facts! An every time I turn it on I should hear "The man knows to history as..." Would be so awesome!!!
Leonidas and his 300 Spartans will never be forgotten. Thank you very much King.
"You're, Quite ....Welcome !"
Concerning Leonidas and The 300 Spartans at Thermopolis , it is an irony of circumstance that they fought Xerxis's Persian Army for the survival of Western Democracy , teaching in Tokyo Japan I am often asked about the difference between the West and East , I always answer that the line between the East and The West began when Leonidas and his 300 Spartan fought Xerxis's Persian Army at Thermopolis .
It’s important to note that many Greek polis were oligarchies or monarchies with the notable exception of Athens. They fought for the freedom and independence of their polis. The unity of Hellenic purpose was important to obtain the necessary manpower and coordination to defeat the Persians, and not through any idealogical or cultural commonality. As we know Macedonia and Thebes gave way to the Persians at the time of the Persian invasion. Indeed during the Peloponnesian war the Spartans actively and successfully obtained Persian assistance to defeat Athens. A complex yet fascinating history that has parallels in todays geopolitics.
Democracy is Hypocrisy by Malcolm X
On the eve of the Battle of Thermopylae (480 BC), King Xerxes I demands that all Spartans surrender their weapons. King Leonidas I responded with “molon labe” - come and take them.
Μόλων λαβέ!!!
@Ep0nz no sh!t Sherlock. We watched the same documentary 🙄
@@mjc11acope harder
@@MT-ck8ke maybe because not all of them did die, like Aristodemus (would have been Eurytus as well but he ordered his helots to return him to battle even though he had become blind). Or that they had people on each side writing down what was said/what happened as well.
We create warriors just like them to this very day.... You can call them what you want, but they all have one thing in common.... Surrender is not of my Creed
There is only one thing you need to know.
THIS IS SPARTA!!
LOL. Gotta love Gerry Butler. He has gotten stuck in the mud of type-casting. Always being the Good Guy Hero, and he is great in the "....fallen" movies, as Secret Service Agent Mike Banning, (him being a former 75th Reg. Ranger makes me HAVE to like that character) RLTW !! But he has experience doing Shakespeare, and started out as a singer trying to get his band a record deal. Another reason for me to like him as a person. He actually was supposed to whisper "This is Sparta" like a snake, but after a few takes he just went bat-shit and screamed "THIS.....". Great guy who doesn`t play the Hollywood game at all. He is a Scot thru and thru !!
Good comment.
@thisissparta8884 thanks I will watch 300 again tonight
It sure is 😂
The peoples profile is by far the best channel on UA-cam or anywhere else. I hope you guys understand just how much happiness it brings myself and others for the work you put into these, Thank you!
Cheers Matt!
I'll second that! It's keeping me sane while my twins are on summer break from school.
Allways considered the Spartans and its allies in battle of Thermopyle to be the most badass in the Persian wars, but changed my mind when I learned more about the Athenian fleet. Imagine fighting for days in Artemesium, rowing back to Athens, transporting its entire population across to Salamis. Then without almost no rest, do battle again against Xerxes and win, after that also defeating the fleet which was going around Salamis.
I think Hollywood is to blame for the later years of the representation. It was a joint effort but with a very noticeable one by the 300+
This is a superb account. Well done! I have visited Thermopylae twice and the low hill where the Spartans made their last fight. An archaeologist found many Persian arrows stuck in the hill and it was moving to stand on that hill.
One of my favorite historical figures. Well done. Thank you. I love this channel (and not just because I'm a historian). The awesome production value and incredible in-depth storytelling are impressive. I wish I had these in middle school.
Makes a refreshing change to actually listen to a voice that doesn't irritate you. I can listen to you all day. Excellent channel.
irritate lol cant get Leo ni das correct
It’s an actor In the actual movie He is Also borrowmirs brother in Lord of the rings
Good Greek & Persia history telling👍. Also, Leonidas facing Xerxes Hordes serves as how "we train in today's US Army"(civilian call it "brainwashing", but I lived it & would do it again if call to...I still live it as a civilian & still remember the codes & values),combat veteran✅🤘🇺🇸.

Thank you for your service, from this proud Army wife. ❤
This is amazing. Thank you as always. Keep up the wonderful work.
Leonidas was a Greek freak warrior king… Brave and incredibly knowledgeable not a young age the kid was just basically born and bred to fight.
I was lucky to have an old history teacher who taught me too think deeply and truly cared about his students. RIP Mr.Miller
May God rest his soul 🙏
The thumbnail makes we wish Bruce Campbell had been cast as Leonidas in 300. "Groovy!"
Persians, this is my boomstick!
Hail to the king, baby!
First you want to kill me then you want to kiss me....Ɓloŵ
Great content. I always love reading and watching historical events.
Wonderful! Α well balanced, well researched view on a much covered subject - stimulating and excellent as always.
If I have a single objection is the depiction of the Spartan hoplite as someone sketched from the 300 comic - their attire was well documented.
Please post more videos about

Thank You So Much!!
Better to stand and fight, if you run you'll only die tired. James Hastings Vietnam 1971 and still a fighter.
Thank you for taking the time to respond The gods favor the brave , not cowards who run and hide. Just ask any Spartan James Hastings , Vietnam 1971
Thanks for these brilliant profiles, have loved the story of the 300 since a child.
THIS IS SPARTA!
I would like to know how many people I have to thank for the amazing content on this channel. This surely cannot be done by one or two people. I would like to thank you all!!
Great job as always
Another well presented history lesson. Thank you.
Great channel! I just found it today (Sept. 25, 2023) and subscribed right away! I plan to watch many more episodes soon!
Perfect description and 100% accurate. Great job!
Amazing work!
Leonidas I and the 300 Spartan’s fought to their last breath and during the twentieth first in the common era is commonly unspoken for.
He has accomplished more than being a fighter, a father, and a leader. He is remembered to generations to come.
This was awesome, thank you for this. God bless.
This--Is--HISTORY!
I absolutely love the way this was done & explained. I could watch these types of stories all day! Well done guys!
Truly an amazing story. Thanks you
So grateful to find this channel 😊
If anyone is having trouble keeping all these names straight - don't feel bad. I am 67 years old and have studied this period for most of my life, and I still have trouble with it sometimes! 😅
Also - there is huge variation in the modern pronunciation of ancient Greek names. My best advice on that subject (again, after many years of study!) would just be, "Don't worry about it." 😅

Great channel best history channel around on UA-cam keep ur hard work up Thanks Respect
Ephialtes name is now the Greek word for nightmare

Appreciate such a perfect narration voice to listen to.
That was the best doc ever....thanks
Loving this channel
I went to a small grade school. Our teachers were great. They explained and taught history this way. In detail and why it’s important to understand. Same with math, science and English. They were amazing. Not a single student was left behind.
Great documentary! Could you also do one on Julius Streicher BTW? Alfred Rosenberg would be awesome as well.
Pitana was probably the village where the notorious Pitanate regiment came from. The Regiment who refused to follow the rest of the Spartans at the battle of Plataea. The main body of Spartans were moving to better ground but the commander of the Pitanate,s saw this as retreating. They eventually followed the main body of troops.(just trying to help those that were unaware).
There were initially 6k-7k Greeks at the battle, there were actually 2500 Greeks that stayed behind to fight to the death (300 Were spartans), the rest left to muster up a larger army and warn the other Greek City States. Spartans get all the credit, but there were 1800 from another Greek state that stood and fought to the death, plus 400 Greek slaves from other nearby city states that Sparta had conquered.
WHERE are you when i was in School!?! I learn so much more, i´m a Historyfreak always ... and that Channel is my Favorite NOW!!!

Great video.
I wish this channel was around when I was in college, hell the internet wasn't even around then, because I learned more from this video than an entire semester of antiquities studies! 😂🤯😂
This was brilliant and entertaining.

Great stuff
With your shield or on it.
What I love about these presentations is that we are left with more questions.
May I suggest Alexander Pope, Geoffrey Chaucer, Alfred Tennyson, and/or John Milton for a future episode?
i believe as a marine warrior that the warrior elite society was necessary to protect freedom of its people
Well presented
I love all things Sparta! Thank you❤
Great job! My listing would be very different, but that's the point!
A documentary well-done...
Wounderful Documentry.
“From the first breath to the last, he stood for Sparta……”
I always appreciate at the end of the profiles that they ask the general question king or tyrant
the answer is almost always both ofc
I can't help but respect either that's willing to make the same sacrifice they expect from others
Excellent information and manner of imparting the greater meaning and context. I highly recommend this presentation.
as allways he was a man of his times, you cant change history no matter how hard you try but you can learn from it
Wow, great documentary. We all know this famous story of the 300 Spartans and their noble fight to the death defending Greece. However, your video really showed how complex this episode of history really was (as history almost always it). Your final question really illustrates this main point: Was Leonidas a hero deserving all the historical fame heaped on him over the centuries, or was he a despot who enslaved the helots and forced them to fight? Very intriguing question! The true answer is likely complex and defies a simple explanation.
I think beyond a reasonable doubt he is a hero. To stand and fight as they did not only showed great courage but how important freedom is. If I was a soldier I would rather give it my all on the battlefield as they did then cowering somewhere.
Very epical and legendary...
Thanks.
Would you be able to do some Mesopotamian historical figures? Something from the Neo-Assyrian, Babylonian/Akkadian or even Neo-Sumerian Empires?
Really enjoy these, great stuff!!
Voting for Senacherib, Ashurbanipal, hammurabi or Nebuchadnezzar
@@-Blackberry Ashurbanipal is probs my favourite but I know these guys will smash it out the park whoever they choose.

Worthy of watching and support🤎
I have a question please, I wonder what’s the name of the music first opening three minutes of this video🙏🏼 0:02 to 3:45
"You speak of honor, of duty, and glory...but what of adultery?!"
Polygamy all day baby!!
The Spartans were the toughest of early Greeks. The Young Spartan men were the toughest military population of the ancient world. They are still respected for their prowess.
A serious omission was mentioned of the Thespians staying with the Spartans until the end.
What a Great story.
Europe needs heroes like Leonadis now
Absolutely glorious . No greater honour, No greater sacrifice than to continue to fight to the very end. Absolutely Divine Courage honour and greatness. Which inspired the ultimate defeat of the invading hoards . Leonidas 🤍 , and the 300 🙏🏽💜. Live forever in glory .
Could you do Xerxes I in the future?
The end of Persia as a world superpower they never really ever recovered after meeting the HELLINES.
Respect to my Ancestors.
Just like any despot. Past or now it’s don’t matter, all the same characters, narcissists. But we the people are in fact guilty of it. So am I.
Please do one on the emperor domitian
“Tonight we dine in Hell”.
I don't know what to say 😅 You all say the same in every 300 spartan video there exist on UA-cam.
It's not that we learn anything new, but still a great video 👍
Most interesting
The reason the Spartans erected a statue of a lion in honor of Leonidas is because his name actually means something like "Lion Man" in Greek.
I love his courage and I wish I could have such...even though his life were short lived king leonadas was a great man
Visited Thermopylae, a pretty surreal experience when thinking about what happened there
This is blasphemy! This is madness!
Madness? This is sparta!
LEONIDAS The right man at the right time in the right place. Spartan society is a perfect militaristic ancient society.
the most badass history event ever took place.
i facken love the greek history,i wish my country had even the 1/100 of the greek history
It would've been an honor to fight alongside King Leonidas. Gotta have a fighting spirit 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
I would like to see more maps. Its hard to keep track of all the names
Gorgo is the most interesting personality to me in this story.
Only the brave will fight when needed
Such a great show thank you
Hi, your videos are really informative. Could you do a video on the late Benazir Bhutto of Pakistan. I believe she should have the recognition she's entitled to.
