  • Sharing some of my secrets in this tutorial for one of the most important aspects when throwing kicks: the chamber. I've combined traditional Taekwondo exercises, yoga stretches, and hip mobility drills to improve the speed/dexterity/accuracy in my legs. Let me know if you have any questions about the drills or our upcoming seminar:

    I think this is one of the important things from TMA that combat sports practitioners could pick up on. Some scoff at rechambering as unnecessary but I think if you practice rechambering you develop a better understanding of that position as well as building balance and being prepared to defend. Cool video.

      I was one of those guys. I abandoned a lot of my Taekwondo practices when I started Muay Thai, and it took me years to realize that my kicks were suffering because of it. Once I started practicing the chamber again, I instantly started landing more kicks in sparring, had better control/speed/power, and could place my foot on more targets. I truly believe we will be seeing a lot more of it in MMA/Kickboxing very soon. Thanks coach!

      Depends on the situation . In muay thai you want to relax into your kick but you should only re-chamber fully if they try to catch your kick. Just a singular muay thai point of view!

    I've been practicing Muay Thai I'd say for a year now? Or a little under. And I wanted to mention this because I'm interested in your input, but I struggled very much when learning how to roundhouse kick. My legs were tense, knees would lock back and hyperextend, terrible TFL and IT band pain, unable to turn my hip over at all. So what I did learn through watching Saenchai videos actually and several other Thai fighters, putting the videos in slo-mo and pausing frame by frame is what I guess you'd call it, is that every elite kicker in Muay Thai that I have seen DOES chamber their leg. But it's not a tight and controlled chamber like Karate guys. If you slow the videos down you will see that even with basic body roundhouse kicks, the elite Thai guys will bring their leg up straight down the middle, already pushing their hip forward almost like a knee, and they keep their leg at a slight and loose chamber and whip the shin through from there. If you don't chamber your leg at all I feel that your legs, core, upper body are so tense because your leg is straight and that's when you see people leaning far back to get their kick higher and having awkward pivots on their supporting leg. So I do believe even in Muay Thai you always chamber your leg for kicks, but the difference would be in TKD and Karate the chamber is tighter and more focused on control of the shin directly, where as in Muay Thai the chamber is left very loose, pretty much where the knee is at a 90° angle almost, and unlike TKD and Karate you don't emphasize the kick from the chamber and instead emphasize the pivot and whipping motion and so on with the kick from there. To sum it up, you still want to keep a loose chamber in Muay Thai so your body whole body stays more loose and nimble and you have a more fluid motion with the kick.

    • @gamedoggfitness5678
      @gamedoggfitness5678 Рік тому

      I feel ya some Karate styles the Chamber is used for a different reason. In Kyokushin we chamber to emphasis chopping down on the thigh bone or the nerve behind the thigh. It makes it harder to block and limits breakage of the Shin because the Kick is coming down on an angle!!!

Similarly to you maybe. • @striq7074
    @striq7074 5 років тому +18

    I think one of the big problems that a lot of traditional martial arts suffer from is the idea that "You always do it this specific way". In my personal experience, karate instructors are some of the worst culprits. "You always have to look your opponent in the eye while fighting." "You always have to start a side kick with a straight chamber."
    My view is that you should never limit yourself to always doing something the exact same way, in all situations, all the time.. Experiment, try out different ideas and different versions. If it works, it works.
    The same goes for muay thai practitioners. Don't ignore something just because it's from a traditional style. If it works, it works. And the more weapons you have, the more dangerous you are.

      I am Martial artist and former Bodybuilder and in my opinion there are some great exercises for to combine MT and Barbells. Do front lifts with dumbells for the front delts (hold the dumbell like a hammer), great for Ellbowstrikes from below. Rows with lifted ellbows on a machine or in a bow position for reverse ellbow strikes (combo between upper lat and back delts), dumbell bench press and flyers for striking (fists and ellbows), leg machine for quadpower and straight kicks, work hard on your calves, jump jump jump. Triceps: Do kickbacks with dumbell , not only backwarts, sidewarts too. Its great for hammerfists. If you have: Use power boots for the muscle that raise your leg up (for blocking kicks). Use not so heavy weights and do minimum 15 reps, its not for to build big muscles. Heavy bench press, bicep curls, deadlifts and heavy squats are not helpfull for MT, thats for weightlifting and Bodybuilding. And when you do the exercises: Dont think like a weightlifter or BB, just imagine at every rep for the STRIKE and KICK you will do. Example: When you row with a dumbell dont LIFT the weight, just STRIKE the ellbow into a imaginary target. I hope i can gave you a few helpful tips.

    Try the 'bounce chamber' where you kick your butt with your heel after a slight hop up. Then holding the leg in high tight chamber, bounce on one foot. When you throw the kick with such a high chamber, it can not be easily blocked. Also, as your partner what it looks like when you kick with a high chamber in sparring. He/she will say 'it looks like your leg comes out of your hip, almost invisible'. This will help you do an unweighted, front leg skip kick which bridges the gap at the same time you kick. You can do this with almost any kick including back turning kicks. Back turn, bounce chamber and skip in then throw, all in one count. HTH.

    every muay thai rounhouse kick has a chamber. people don't see it because muay thai fighters kick super fast but if you put buakaw, superbon, superlek or seanchai in slow motion x0,25 you can see the a bend at the knee, not like a full chamber (heel to the butt) but 90° degrees at least

    With out chambering your attacks, you don't have control over your exit from an attack, and if you have a predictable exit, you WILL get caught if you don't end it quick. IE: control your momentum in AND out, so that you can flow with it as you CHOOSE, not as you MUST. I mean that's more of a karate basis, but anyone can incorporate it to reduce predictability, and increase positional agility.
    Id suggest the importance of stance control and centring your limbs in regard to balance and momentum in those split seconds between striking, naturally, is important for any type of attack that leads your momentum and reduces your grounding in the process? Even some types of hand strikes benefit from the concept yeah?

      If you're saying what I think you're saying then you're supposed to.
      There's a video with Joe Rogan explaining side kicks and how to get power into them.
      Maybe this will help.
      When you chamber the kick think image being a spring compressed (almost) vertically
      Then when you kick your whole body, from foot to head expands like a spring horizontally
      Hope that is some help
