      @@karalmom5669 to do a hamstring stretch, you put your leg on an elevated position like a bench and your other leg's feet should point towards the bench. Good workout.
    Regarding static stretching, I recommend to do each stretch 2 minutes to get best results. Plus taking turns flexing your agonist and antagonist muscles while stretching. For example the hamstring stretch: While stretching pull the feet towards your body using your muscles and hold that for 10 seconds, then do the same with pushing your feet forward into your hands trying to build a resistance that you push your feet into, 10 seconds again. Then go a bit lower into the stretch. Repeat. You will feel how your muscles loosen up after each muscle flexing phase making you more comfortable to go a bit deeper into the stretch. And remember: DO each stretch for 2 minutes and relax your muscle between the muscle flexing phases. Feel the agonist and antagonist separately. By the way, with the sitting hamstring stretch always make sure you bend forward at the hips with your full upper body straight. You will definitely feel the difference in the hamstrings, even if you got the feeling that you cannot get down to your legs that far. It's okay. Do not make a bump in your back while stretching. Shane does it absolutely correctly, I just want to hint to that important aspect again.
    Wish you good results. Keep it up!

    Outside of stretching, one of the biggest ways I found in my muay thai career was to just throw tons of kicks. In shadow boxing. Against the heavy bags. Against the pads. It develops that flexibility dynamically, but also develops the stabilizing muscles. Remember, this is in ADDITION to dynamic stretching warm ups and static stretching cool downs EVERYDAY!

    Thank you. I'm 15, and I've been trying to get more into fitness (one cause of anxiety) and I wanted to try something like Muay Thai/Capoeira. As far as I know, these two arts require some degree of flexibility for the kicks, something I don't have. Motivation is a key issue, but I'm trying my best! Having to do numerous exercises to warm up your muscles before being able to kick is like the equivalent of a soldier having to always sit down and assemble his gun every time he encounters an enemy. In both cases the person should be always ready. The fighter should be able to kick cold (if he has to) just as the soldier should always be ready to fire his gun immediately.
    I read that on an article somewhere. Don't remember but I think its great advice. Once you start kicking high when warmed up don't quit. Keep on stretching to the point where your muscles can kick high with out any warm up if needed.

    Many years ago I attended ballet classes for flexibility as the martial arts concepts on stretching were crude at best, causing injury and prolonged stiffness post stretching. Ballet does not use ballistic stretching as shown here. It is never forced as this causes micro tears in the muscle fibres and subsequent scaring actually shortens the muscle over time. Ballet and gymnastics perform a more controlled slower ballistic stretch that is equally active. This is less likely to cause injury and yields better results.

    Ballistic stretches are common with martial arts and I love them. The issue is that people want to go too far, too fast. You have to take baby steps with them. Start with slow, gentle, easy pulsing. Stretch as you exhale, relax as you inhale. Build up speed and range of motion slowly over time. And as you said, only AFTER you are warmed up.
    People get injuries when they try to bounce too fast, too far, or while "cold". Toss out the idea of bouncing and just pulse your stretch. After a while, other ballistic stretches can be added. I like to include ballistic high kicks (like the flex kick). Flexibility is a marathon, not a sprint.

    Hey Shane, never thought I'd have to ask this, but there's a rumor floating around my school that a kid's gonna bring a weapon to school tomorrow or sometime this week, and coincidentally a kid of the same grade as this kid in question got kicked out of school for rumors of some sort last Friday (which was when I heard the rumor). I'm actually fearing for my life and the lives' of my friends and classmates, so is there anything I can do in case someone does bring a weapon to school?

    • @fighttips
      @fighttips  8 років тому +103

      Any information that you have, without hesitation, take it to a teacher or principle. Nothing cowardice about it. If the kid is innocent, nothing will happen to him. If he's not, then you potentially saved tons of lives. If they don't take you seriously, call the police. In school, h9ave an escape route planned at all times. Know to take cover, but that bullets can travel through desks and drywall. Be safe, brother. Keep us updated.

    which more appropriate for stretch ? Dynamic stretch, or Static ?

    • @fighttips
      @fighttips  8 років тому +23

      You should be doing dynamic before ANY workout. Static is necessary for injury prevention and flexibility. My answer? Both.

    • @nomudnolotus4410
      @nomudnolotus4410 8 років тому +4

      PNF stretching is the way to go mate. It combines static and dynamic together and uses the stretch reflex to get deeper into each stretch. Unlike static/dynamic it also teaches your body to be strong at full extension, not just flexible.
