- Are you having trouble finding power or speed in your #MuayThai roundhouse kicks? Maybe it's your balance or coordination that is off? Try these 3 tips, to optimize the rotation in your round kicks:
1. "Slide a piece of paper under your foot" (Pivot support foot)

My grandmas been dodging all my kicks recently so this should help
Damnnnn u tryna mke yo nanny leave so early😂😂

If you know the biomechanics of your own body, then you will be a deadly fighter. You are both the pilot and the machine. Sweet science indeed 🔥
I agree to that
That's what martial artists are artistic machines
in reality we're all just a brain, sitting inside of a bone mech that we pilot, which is encased in flesh armor.
@@DrGetgood Damn, that's metal
@@DrGetgood this idea never occurred to me lmfao
"we refer to this as the Dracula guard, because it looks like mwuahaha" 🤣😂😂 had me dying. But in all seriousness though, I really love the way you explain things, it really helps understand how to do the technique 😁
Dracula guard is different it's more for clinch range and it's far more intentional in its muahaha like appearance
I was just thinking how his way of making the sequence easier to remember by connecting it with a visual representation of something else, is something that has been seen in so many traditional arts, especially accross the diaspora of kung fu styles. "Monkey plucks the peach" being used to refer to a ball grab being my personal all-time favourite 🤣
These kicks are fuego my man. PURE FIRE
The crossover of the ages
I would want to see you spar, chubby surprise vs tiny surprise who will get the headkick first ?
Yo @Shane Fazen pin this comment
After the first three of them, he got half of his gas tank left
Dude i love your channel
I love martial arts. It's funny how no matter how good I feel or confident there's always something new to learn. Even coaches tell me my roundhouse kicks are pretty solid, but that small tip with scissoring the arm and focusing on it really did increase my speed and power just a fraction! Thank you for the tips Shane!
Very true being a martial arts member to fulfill your hobby or sport or become a fighter (athlete) in boxing, mma, karate and many others of martial arts or self defense system or sport fighting there wii be no ending story something new in terms of movement it may came from watching Taikwondo, Karate, Kungfu, Silat, Kempo, MMA, BJJ, Muay Thai and so many other selfe defense to include Krafmaga and others from Russia selfe defense system from many countries around the world will keep you up todate in high spirit of learning the movement will keep you healthy today and for so many years to come..i share the feeling go for it..!
5:12 this tip is SO IMPORTANT. When I first started I didn’t pull my left shoulder back and that twist in the spine left me with awful lower back pain for days until my coach found that problem in my form.
damn can't believe this is free content!
I’m starting Muay Thai and I’ve been having problems with my kicks, and this helps greatly.
Idk how many of his vids you have seen, but he has a ton of great videos for kicking technique
Muay thai sucks

Wow, actually I saw senchai doing the same thing with the arm going up after the kick while shadow boxing. I couldn’t understand why is he doing that. Great video, thank you Shane
Was anyone else scared of him kicking the wall?
His bones are tough enough
he wouldnt feel it
@@tatsuya. he would but probably would'nt care
No bc he will break through the wall
Pausing like that mid kick to demonstrate the different steps is really impressive, great balance.
Really appreciate your videos. The amount of techniques I was able to learn over the years thanks to your very clear breakdown of the technique while you are demonstrating it. And I thank you for that cause I've been thru 3 MMA gyms over the course of the last 5 years and to be honest I've learnt more from your videos because of how thoroughly you breakdown the technique, how to set up the technique, and how to Proform it in its most effective way. And I thank you for helping me get better at the very thing I love to do the most!!!
I started Muay Thai In January of this year. Been getting frustrated because my rotation on the kicks is not there and I just feel akward lol. Coming across this video has helped and I’ll be practicing religiously. Thank you 😊
Ur a hero! Dont ever stop!
1:04 i didn't see that coming
The last tip with the scissering motion is years ahead of the game, ive never heard or would have come up with this. Thanks so much for sharing this gem!
*Khabib wants to know your location*
@عمر Xx no u are wrong it is just that we have not seen khabib throw kicks remember what people said about his punches for the connor fight then what does khabib do he dropped connor with a punch !!! He can do the same with his kicks sooo edit the damn comment 😁
@@luqy_eagle7779 you don't know what he can do with his kicks if you haven't seen it. So don't tell people what to do jackass.

I like how you talked about the lifting the planted foot just a millimeter, I have talked about that in my own instruction, but the way you explain it I think will help me explain it in the future. Thanks Coach!!!
Omg the hand movements are a game changer! Already notice a difference in just one training.
Your explanations are extremely detailed. well done
Shane's vids always teach me things I dont know! Thank you Shane! :)
I love this video, tomorrow I’m definitely about to be practicing my kicks like all day so thank you I appreciate it
Love your tutorials man, very clear and logical. 😊
So many tutorials on this technique say "twist", "turn your hips over", "move through your target", but not how to get you body to actually move that way. I spent a while with the full roundhouse trying to turn around by using my hip flexors and it hurt, not to mention leading to a stall in the posted leg which leads to a stalling of the rotation and ballistic internal rotation of the kicking hip, which hurt in a worse way.
You are the BEST teacher on recruiting every body part to get that full body rotation.
One thing I think you are missing Shane is the use of the posted foot to push your body forward and/or forward and a bit to the side to initiate the rotation.
Perhaps you can do a video on how the mt roundhouse mirrors the Korean/Chinese/Japanese straight leg wheel kick. Both techniques mirror one another, as the mt roundhouse involves a rotation forwards, and the wheel kick involves a rotation backwards.
Thanks, man. Really helped with my roundhouse.
thx now i can beat my bully with style
Bro please don't throw a highkick and slip🤠
Better chill young man
@Hunter Hall i am 16 :))
@@tehjokur3344 i wont haha
@@ramdaddy8557 i will bro 👍
You make the tips so easy to follow, thanks
A big problem that lots of people have is keeping the shoulders square as you touched on and not turning the kicking side shoulder forward which jams the hips from turning over. Never did it on my rear side but always had crappy lead leg switch kicks and couldn’t work out why I couldn’t get any power out of it. I was trying to turn over my hips, but this is impossible without turning the shoulder first. Took me ages to figure this out and it’s an aspect that lots of coaches miss. Thanks for pointing it out.
I’ve finally fixed my kick thanks to this video!!!! Thanks Shane!
Thank u so much for sharing this. The small analogies r great.
So much content, thanks. This will definitely be of great help.
Thank you. The arm swing tips were super helpful!

Awesome!!!
wow that's a very good one thanks man
Thanks you The best
Dracula guard is nice as defence when kicking. Good video!
Just a theory, but a note on the rising arm helping your rotation.
Isnt this a very similar effect to figure skaters tucking their limbs in to spin faster? (I forget the physics name).
For those wondering what im talking about, sit in a spinning chair and spin. Now let your legs and arms hang outwards. you will spin slower. Tuck them inwards and you will spin faster.
Its the same if you lift them vertically, as shane does here.
This is a really cool physics concept applied to martial arts that seems really self explanatory and even a no brainer, yet ive never seen it explained this way nor have i thought of it on my own. Great video shane, thank you for the knowledge!
You're thinking of the moment of inertia! By tucking your limbs inwards and you will spin faster to maintain the same momentum.
@@blazinkid5178 thats the one! Im now being mindful to try and apply this wherever I can in my striking.
Thanks for letting me know what it was called.
Really powerful
an intro that i prefer , any way thank you Shane
great coaching
Thanks for the video. My tkd dojang teaches both styles of the roundhouse kick.
Nice vidéo, thanks you
This comes right after my Kickboxing sensei has been bugging me all week long because of my roundhouse kick (I used to practice TKD ages ago; even though the roundhouse I was taught was more like a whiplash than a snapping motion, still, habits die hard lol) nice explanation. man.
yupp helped alot, old lady down the street had no chance..thx man!
Man, comments like this are no longer funny in 2020 😣
The fact that you follow up with a check tells me more about your knowledge of Muay Thai than anything else. #Legit
I advise you not to do that unless you like being swept off your feet lol
@@iramosin8724 I mean I see your opponent countering with a kick on the body but why won't he try flicking your other leg to make u fall?
@@pokemontrainer6941 that's what I used to go for when I was sparing, I'm not that great but kicking the support leg works every time 😂
lifting the arm after the swing is very interesting, I was never taught like this. From a physics point of view it totally makes sense, it's perservation of angular motion. So when you lift the hand up you increase your angular velocity and therefore you spin faster. Just like ice skaters do.
Ayyy new vid
Yes I will .
Many decades ago, it was only in Kung Fu & Tai Chi Chuan that used descriptive metaphors like, "monk rings the bell" (forward facing circular backfist to the face). Now it's spread everywhere, so our host has "vampire blocking elbow" and "holster draw" for the other arm. We didn't have those in Kung Fu. :)
Thanks
Amazing

Shane, request to do a flying/dashing knee & elbow combo 👌🏽
We want a video for kip up/kick up for bigenners please 🥊🖤
With the arm stationary while kicking and defending the head. I was always taught this way yet I’m not a fan because when you keep your arms stationary like that it makes your leg the first thing to move thus making it easy to see coming. I have more success with minor arm movements then throwing kinda similar to what you did.
Nice sir
Great video 👍 Shane could you do a video on how to do the switch step overhand punch that Masvidal and Woodley uses against their opponents 🙏
sir .. your every video is best. i watching every video and leran with.

Nice Video mate. Helped a lot
That snap roundhouse kick 1:04 is beautiful.
I think that the tip with lifting the arm is not about the scissoring motion but it is because of the angular momentum(L=mvr, when r is smaller v is bigger). (like when dancers do those pirouettes they put their hands close to their body).
This should help against the upcoming fight I have with those elementary school kids
ahh the hitchhiker...good one. great and helpful points on rotation thank you
