I love the straight forward explaination. It really improved my kicks. The same arm motion is incorperated in the basic move of capoeira, the jinga. Now i know why.
Appreciate this video a lot. Ive been working on my roundhouse kicks & trying to unlock the mechanics to get the motion in naturally has been a bit of a challenge but Im improving with practice. Do you think you can make a video for improving lead roundhouse kicks & the muay thai consecutive kicks with the same leg like they do on the pads. Would be dope!
those consecutive same leg kicks aren't that hard just try it i like doing them on a heavy bag lead roundhouses are tricky for more power u need to switch ur stance which i guess doesn't make it a lead kick anymore but whatever but u could also just lift the knee high and snap it out for less power but more speed but the latter is more of a karate style type of kick
Really helpful video, I had this motion flowing before, but after I injured my ankle I lost my muscle memory for powerful roundhousekicks, but this video seems to get me back to even more powerfull kicks
Thank's again for more great tips. I was taught the American kickboxing way, and I love the extra power I get by swinging the arms. keep them coming, and I'll keep getting better.
Hey Shane I love you videos I have been doing boxing for a half a year and watching your videos has given me an interest in muay thai. Lucky for me the muay thai gym is shared with my boxing gym and I was thinking of trying it out in early July or late April. My problem is I am going to have to tell my coach that I will be gone for a while but for some reason I feel guilty even though my coach has not put any pressure on me. Thanks man I love your videos they really help me out!
I agree. I keep both arms up because a split second is what one needs to punch and I need a quick defense in case. Swinging the arm will leave you open.
Great video man!!! Im not sure if you have done a video of the best taekwondo kicks for mma but that would be a sick video!!!!! Keep the videos coming they are extremely beneficial to up and coming fighters!!!!!!
I tend to like smaller circles with the dropping hand (just beneath the other arm instead all the way to the waist) so I don't open up my face too much, but the principle is really well explained either way
This is an awesome tip man. To many people don’t do it and don’t harness the power that they really have. I’m having some trouble with the switch kick and also the opposite (southpaw) kick Both just feel wrong. Could you possibly do a video to help out with that man or give me some tips on that :). Love your work brother
Here's another possibility: Years ago, I used to study Hapkido, which also includes a fair amount of Korean-style kicking. Towards the end of my training, after I'd been kicking for years, they advised me to adopt an unorthodox technique to suit my frame (I'm 6'1" and long in the torso): holding my rear hand OUT for balance. It seemed to work, but what do you have to say?
Hi Shane. Talking about your great video Spinning Backfist, I have some questions: 1) Have you ever heard about Spinning Knuckle? Does it exist? 2) If so, is it the same punch of Spinning backfist? Thanks for any explanation.
Great video, lots of details and great points as usual!!! Can you do a video on unattached knee strikes and those hand/ guard positions It seems like it should be similar but I have always had trouble landing, middle range knee strikes. Or where the heck my hands should be, always feels off balance. Longer distance jumping knees, never been a problem and kicks from the same distance, are my bread and butter. For some reason those knees never seem to land, unless I'm attached or countering. Thanks
Hey man how are you, my name is Mohammed from Morocco . I watched all you're vedios and you are amazing❤❤ I'm a beginner i just buy a heavy bag i'm trainning at hom but i have a problem. Ican hit the heavy bag by my left legs but i can't hit it by my right legs and same my hand i can control my right hand but i can't control my right hand And pleas help me and tell me how i can control my right legs and my left hand when i hit the heavy bag 🙏
I have a question; I’m interested in joining a Muay Thai gym, but I’m 21 years old. Is that too old to start training? Especially if I want to eventually compete in fights?
Anatoly lol, I just thought that since most professionals started when they were kids, it would be too late for me to compete by the time I get to a professional level.
This is a great vid! I love roundhouse kicks, so I always aim to improve the technique. Keep it up, Shane! Any news on when your double end bag will be up for sale again?
It weird how I've always been doing this while throwing roundhouse kicks, but never noticed it. Even mma coaches when they taught me how to throw a roundhouse, never told me about the arm swing
Hey Shane if you get this I wanted to tell you I might not be able to make it to the seminar do to some personal family complications ok. Just thought you should know. Ps nice video
hi ! i took care of 5 puppies this winter and recently i have found homes for each of them. and i miss them a little :') . but im ok dont worry. also i know that for my punches to be faster i need to let my hand loose and at the impact to tense the fists, but im struggling with this when i dont wear gloves. With bare fists i feel like i cant close my hands as good as if when i keep them close all the time and also the skin below my fingernails fells kind of weird. any suggestions ?
Hey dude. I just found you're channel and I already love it. A lot of really good tips and advice. I've been watching you're street fight vids mostly. Let me explain the situation. I'm not a strong or fast guy, hell I'm not even much of a fighter. But recently people I've been having issues with for years are starting to get really aggressive and hostile. A few of them actually jumped my brother yesterday and kicked his ass. I know I don't have much of a better chance at kicking their ass but I want to be ready. Do you( or anyone else) have any tips for when you're jumped or otherwise ambushed? And any tips for defense against a group of attackers? They usually gang up with 2 or three people. Thanks in advance and thanks for posting great content. Stay safe and fight strong.
The swing should be only used if the opponent is stunned or he’s on guard because this kick is quite slow and can be countered by a push kick, side kick and back kick. Every technique has pros and cons right. Peace ✌🏻
When showing the power difference between swinging arms and not, you do two different kicks, the swing variant is a proper roundhouse kick with hip leading all the way, the high guard variant is a snappy round kick with very little hip behindi t. So the comparison is not fair. You can swing the hip as far with highguard too so do that when comparing power, so it is the same type of kick and fairly comparable by being able to discern if you can accelerate the hip more with the swinging motion and hence get a stronger kick.
I think of the arm swing as an extension of the shoulders. Sylvie Von Duuglas-Ittu wrote an article detailing the turn of the shoulders particularly for the leg kick. I incorporated this into my own technique and saw great improvement in the kick overall. Turning your rear shoulder forward helps achieve the arm positioning that Shane talks about in this. It may work for some and for others it may not. More so than anything, relaxation is key! The technique will be poor if you're tense
The more you practice the more you'll realize that the name of the art isn't actually that important. As long as you can fight powerfully and effectively, that's all that matters.
I think I'm doing it wrong, my roundhouses seem only a little bit more powerful, not much of a difference at all, maybe it has something to do with weight groups, could a heavy weight (or by Muay Thai weight divisions super heavyweight) tell me how it felt to them?
Is it just me or whenever I hold pads for MMA(I’m new to MMA been training Boxing for 2 Years) ... I Always Freeze up and get confused for which hands I should hold up for my partner, and for a few second I stand there, frozen and discombobulated! Help!!!!
AB mate it depends on your level of experience, you see coaches with perfect combos and pad work because they don’t fight, they coach. Fighters fight, coaches coach. Fighters aren’t designed or trained to hold pads or teach, they learn. And no offence but 2 years isn’t a lot of time so you won’t have developed fully and have a lot of experience
Find that pad working style that works for you. Keep on practicing. Repetition is what will get you to hold pads more. Just like Shrek said, fighters tend to do drills, they don't hold pads as well as coaches (my opinion). Good luck to u! I did boxing for 7 months. Boxing pad work is so much harder than muay thai or tkd
If you're confused which hands to put up I find it's helpful to think of yourself throwing the punch (only works if you have the same stance as them of course) But if they're throwing a 1, you're doing a half 1 motion yourself. If they're throwing their left hook, you do a left hook motion. Etc. I'm not the best at explaining so try testing it out
Just tried this. Such a huge difference.
This video has the perfect length. Not too long, not too short, just the perfect time, down to the second

Nah the best roundhouses are in boxing.
Bob Schmill what about aikido
Almost Joe Rogan
762x35mm what about a wings and y wings
True. But I also like a lot the karate style roundhouse ( like Thompson does)
nice tips shane. this tips work when you already get the right mechanics of the lower body (waist, hip, and foot). really adds power to the kick
Pause at 1:34 - Shane confirmed member of the Aryan brotherhood
I love the straight forward explaination. It really improved my kicks. The same arm motion is incorperated in the basic move of capoeira, the jinga. Now i know why.
Thank God for you Shane! I've always felt weird with my arms when doing this.🙏🏾
Just what I needed, thanks bro!

I usually keep the other hand glued to my head
I would agree with that. There's no need to drop your arm to your hip. It just opens up your head to your opponent's kick for a split second.
I agree. I keep both arms up because a split second is what one needs to punch and I need a quick defense in case. Swinging the arm will leave you open.
I tried to do it without swinging my arm and I had no balance, fell and almost broke my right toe... Doesn't feel natural at all to not swing the arm
Great video man!!! Im not sure if you have done a video of the best taekwondo kicks for mma but that would be a sick video!!!!! Keep the videos coming they are extremely beneficial to up and coming fighters!!!!!!

Whoaaaaa I didn't know those details! I'm going to put them into practice today! THANKS Shane!
I love using this technique momentarily blocking my opponents vision 😻👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Thanks Shane. This was the reason I couldnt get proper rotation in my kicks 🙌🏾
When are you gonna restock on the hybrid gloves?
I would argue that swinging your arm doesn't actually generate more power, it just acts as a counter balance.
Great video it helped me a lot thnx!👍😊☺
Nice explanation of the technique
Great training!!
Shane is the men!!
Nice video Shane! Very helpful. 👍
Thank you Shane this video helped SO MUCH!
Actually, throwing a hard round house kick can be quite an effective defense as well. ;)
Dude, your level of mobility is god damn high XD
Thank you, I really appreciate this
Excellent technique
Thanks as always for the tips :)
Hey shane please make a video on combinations of mma and muay thai style and teach us some awesome variations on a heavy bag

It’s not too late to compete or to train, but it’s too late to do it professionally.
