Been fly fishing for many years. Picked up the big horn 5 wt combo last year as a rod to leave in the car. In short it's great. I use it all the time now. More than some of my orvis stuff.

bought this combo, yesterday. I have some 10 rods from 5wt to 9wt....never had a 4wt. Between the discounts and club points, I got this combo for almost $30. Other than wishing it were 2 piece, it looks like good setup... Bought it cold, no research at all...thanks for making this video.

Absolutely love your content, I’ve been watching your channel for about 2 months now. And you’ve actually inspired me to start fly fishing instead of just a normal spinning rod. I actually bought this rod a couple weeks ago and was absolutely psyched when I saw this vid come out. Love the content and keep it up!

I used to spend big money on fly gear years ago, but I tried some of the cheaper outfits for reasons forgotten now, and was always impressed. The nice stuff is nice and I love my Winston, but the budget stuff gets the job done just as well.

A few years back, you fished the east branch of the salmon brook in a pretty unknown section. I fished there yesterday and got 70 bows, 20 native brookies, and a wild brown. Action there is absolutely insane right now, probably video worthy. (Btw natives in the salmon brooks crush Mepps aglia woolyworm above all else, especially the 10”+)

The one thing I've learned about anything cabelas branded is whatever major brand cabelas sells that's close in compariosn is who makes it. Diawa makes bass pro reels.

Well, even the price point rods are a lot better than what you could buy in the 1960s. Thou I have to chuckle a little bit I got lab based by family when I bought a Sage RP II 8'6" 5 wt and Hardy LRH reel to go with it. I spent 298 for the rod 90 for the reel another 45 for an extra spool and 60 bucks for a DT F and a Fast Sink tip it came to a tad over 500 with sales tax. That was in 1983. That is 40 years ago, The rod and reel have been used and not abused. And I fished with it on the West Branch of the Farmington a few days ago. I managed a few on Hendrickson. What I am saying is that some of the price point rods today would come very close to that Sage. Also if you take care of things, it will last. I fish this rod a lot, I go trout fishing, and 80% of the time this one is in my hand and I got a few rods. It comes to about $12.50 a year and if I divide that by the 50 or so days I fish a year with it, I use last year's number, and it comes to 25 cents a day. Heck, I spend more than that on a hackle these days. I like to buy things once. It's cheaper that way. I am sure most of that 100 dollars went into the rod. The Reel will last as long as it's not abused. I clean and dry all my rod reels and fly lines after each use. I never put anything away wet. Even my fly boxes get opened at home so the flies can dry out. Cuts down on rust. I still tie on the first gen Regal Vise I had since 1981. Good well-made things just last with some care. I never broke a rod since most rod breakages occur getting in and out of cars. I put my rods back in the tubes. Also, I will cut a line and give up a fly that cost me 80 cents to tie rather than break a rod to get it back. I can afford 80 cent loss, I would be heartbroken if I broke my RPII! I just might buy one of those rods to fish with and let you know what I think about it. If they come out of South Korea, yeah Communist China well that will be a deal breaker for me.

    nice video

  • @michaelnix8263

You need to hold the rod with the tip behind you while walking to hopefully prevent rod breakage from falling.

  • @natechotravels9300

Bought this combo and the reel snapped immediately 😢

  • @anablakp3200

What reel is with this combo?

  • @danielwyatt1814

Where can I buy it because I have no cabelas or bass pro near me how do I ship it to my house

  • @novaaaaa220

Just wondering if this rod and reel combo still worth it?😊

  • @Astro-Patriot

i had this combo caught many fish, just be careful of the two screws that connect the reel to the fitment adaptor i find they come loose and can fall off or ruin your casting completely. some lock-tite should do the trick. Great Review

  • @jakeschreibman

Why not get in the water and wade so you don’t ruin and nick ur fly line so much?
